TIME MACHINE - EMAIL NOTIFICATION in the server

Hi,
I need to remove all email notification from Time Machine in my Mac OS X Server 10.6.5, do you know how?
I try to find the default write option to make that, or another way
Txs

Finally I found the answer, uncheck a disk notification option in WorkManager of the server, so easy !

  • Time Machine Email Notifications

Does anyone know of a way, or of a third-party app, to get Time Machine to send email notifications of successful or unsuccessful backups and even better a copy of the backup log.
I realise that for most people this is not a required feature and in the case of Apple philosophy they would think this would over complicate things for their target audience but it would be really hand for support desks who need backup monitoring/reporting.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

After manually browsing through the directories as William stated above, I found the sent mailbox from an earlier backup and copied it to the desktop. From there I just imported it into mail and all is well. I'm still stumped as to why nothing after a certain date shows up in Time Machine though...
Yes, there does seem to be some sort of problem in Mountain Lion with the special handling for Mail, at least in some circumstances.   As you've seen, the data is there (you can also see it via the normal Time Machine interface by looking at the Mail folder via the Finder);  the problem seems to be with the special Mail display only.
Unfortunately, of course, you can't tell what any particular message is from the Finder display;  that's why the special handling using Mail was developed.
At first, I thought this was related to converting from MobileMe to iCloud, as it happened to me about the time I did that, while beta testing Mountain Lion.  I reported it in April, and have received no solution yet.

  • Email Notification after the backup job is complete

I have the email working and it sends email after the differential and full backup is complete but I have added the logfile backup but it does not append to the same email. I did not write all the steps when I configured 1st time and I am screwed now. I
have the database mail setup. Is that enough to send email after the job is complete. I want to email to read the path of the backup. I have done restart of the sql aAgent too but no luck. I have followed instruction on the following

    Hello Sue,
I have an iPad 3, iPad Mini and iPhone 5S and they are all sluggish on capitalisation using shift keys. I hope that Apple will solve the problem because it is driving me crazy.
I find using a Microsoft Surface and Windows 8 phone, which I also have, work as well as all the ios devices before the ios 7 upgrade.
It has something to do with the length of time that you need to hold the shift key down. The shift key needs to be held longer than the letter key for the capitalisation to work. For some reason, this is a major change in the way we have learnt to touch type on computers. I am having to relearn how to type!

  • Time Machine couldn't complete the backup due to a network problem

Firstly apologies for the long post, I've been bottling these problems up and could now use some expert advice.
I have a MacPro (10.6.3) with four internal drives (320GB system/apps. + 3x 750GB data, images etc) and a MacBook Pro (10.6.6) with a 320GB internal. With so much accumulated data (Mac user since SE FDHD) I wanted a reliable means to backup all my projects, books, papers, research, images etc. I had several bad experiences using Iomega drives (Ultramax and Storcentre) which were not very Mac compatible and shifted over to a 10TB LaCie 5Big Network 2 which is promoted as Time Machine compatible. Set up Time Machine (with a few hiccups) in Sept 2010 and it ran perfectly, backing up both main computers until March 2011. I have now experienced a string of problems backing up the MacPro, some of which have been resolved speaking to people, some by checking forums and some by using my own noddle to figure it out. The latest error message I am getting is "Time Machine couldn't complete the backup due to a network problem. Make sure your computer and the backup disc are on the same network, and that the backup disc is turned on. Then try again to back up."
The circumstances of this are as follows: TM seems to be trying to completely back up everything already backed up from previous months so I am using the "exclude" option to do this in manageable chunks (5.54TB of 7.99TB is available so there is a lot of stuff on there, hence my reticence to erase and start again). I started a backup last night which said it was 242GB and when I came back hours later (I estimate 30GB and hour or 500MB a minute) it has failed with the error message above. I asked it to back up again and it said it now had 191GB to backup, at the next failure it was 142GB, dropping by approx 50GB a time (if there a maximum it can manage in one go?), the next time it was starting again with 242GB.
I checked the disc it was backing up to, discovered it was now selecting Public-1, re-selected Public which houses the macpro.sparsebundle, dropped the backup size (Options) to 73GB and set it off again and it is backing up as I write. I am hoping it will complete and permit another chunk to be backup but the fact it looses network connection (seemingly) or has a maximum backup in one go, is annoying because it means you cannot leave it overnight and trust it to do the backups.
The other problem seems to be a shut down by LaCie 5Big because several times (and once this morning) I have had this message "The file server "LaCie 5Big" has closed down, followed by a complete Lacie shut down and auto-reboot with all lights and whistles. Lacie think this could be a power supply problem and say they are sending me another power brick. They also say they do not support Time Machine (they should check their own literature) and suggest I use LaCie 5Big for 'drag and drop' backup. If I wanted to do that I could pick up a cheap and nasty HD from PCWorld, not this high end 10TB drive which cost over £1,000 !
For a while y'day I could not even find the Lacie on the network but after changing the ethernet cable from Lacie to router (Linksys) it miraculously re-appeared so that problem may have been the original Lacie blue ethernet cable had developed a fault. Checking cables is an oft-overlooked option.
A catalogue of errors, some solved, others still all pervading, so any words from the wise would be gratefully accepted.

I verified the macpro.sparsebundle and Time Machine backups in Disk Utility and it said both appeared to be Okay in green type. So that did not solve the issue. I did a Disk Utility repair a day or so again (despite Verify saying everything was fine) and said there was nothing to repair. I suspect two problems, the power brick may be faulty producing intermittent power and maybe causing the drive to close down (hopefully Lacie will send me a replacement to try) and second, I am thinking the network connection is getting dropped causing crashed backups without the Lacie shutdown/reboot sequence. The 73GB back up failed, I started it again at 54GB and it failed again, just started it again at 45GB - this is no way to progress!
Perhaps the relatively new (last year) Linksys router is the problem, I find my MBP says AirPort is active but it fails to appear in Go>Server unless I switch it off and on again and perhaps a similar problem drops the connnection to the Lacie.

  • Time Machine spends hours partially backing up and then fails with "Time Machine couldn't complete the backup due to a network problem."  Tried suggestions I've seen on the forum.

Time Machine spends hours partially backing up and then fails with "Time Machine couldn't complete the backup due to a network problem."  I've tried various suggestions I've seen on the forum but nothing has worked.  TIme Machine worked fine for the last two years and just suddenly started having this problem every time.  The only thing that was a little different is that the computer was off for a week while on vacation and then I added a large amount (20 GB) of photos. Now the requested backup size is 82GB, which is large, and process proceeds very slowly for 2-3 hours before failing with the message mentioned.  I have more than enough available backup storage space for it.  Before failing, Time Machine has backed up no more than 12GB or so of the backup.  It fails during different files each time.
I've turned off the computer sleep feature, and I've checked that the NAS is set to never automatically power down. I normally backup over Wi-Fi, but I've also tried connecting to Ethernet and it still has the same problem.  It's odd because I also have a MacBook Pro that is still backing up fine to the same NAS using the MacBook's Time Machine.
I am using an iMac with OS X 10.6.8 and an Iomega StorCenter ix2-200 NAS.
I have system logs that I can share if helpful.  The logged messages vary a bit from run to run, but here are some messages that I've been seeing:
I always get this message near the beginning of the backup:
Event store UUIDs don't match for volume: Macintosh HD
I've gotten this messsage a number of times:
    Bulk setting Spotlight attributes failed.

Something caused a disconnect.  Can't tell from the log what it was.
I doubt it's a problem with something in OSX being damaged or corrupted, but reinstalling OSX isn't a major hassle, so might be worth a try.
To be incompatible with Snow Leopard, this NAS must be at least a couple of years old.  It may be beginning to fail.
Contact the maker.  See if there's an update to make it compatible with Snow Leopard.  If so, that might fix it.
If not, or if that doesn't fix it, see if they have any diagnostics that will shed any light.

  • Time machine backup from 10.6 server to Lion

    Hi
I am running a Mac mini Server with SL Server, but I do not use the server features, it's pretty much a regular workstation. Now I want to upgrade to Lion (workstation) by formatting the hard drive and do a clean install. My question is if it is possible to restore my user data from the Time Machine backup done in SL Server during the setup of Lion? Are those os'es backups compatible or do I have to manually backup my home directory and user data and add everything after finishing the Lion install?
    Thanks in advance
    /Niclas

    Thanks for your reply.
I guess that on 10.6 as far as TM is concerned the server version is exactly the same as the client version, except that we don't have the benefit of Migration Assistant to do the inherit for us.
I am using a USB disc for TM.
I can see that under Backup.backupdb I have a folder named after the old server, which contains the backups.
I did try simply renaming that to the new server name, just in case the solution might be that simple.  But I get "operation not permitted".  It's not a permissions problem, and doing chflags nouchg doesn't help.  I guess it could be the schg flag, but I'm reluctant to try too hard in case I lose the old backups.
Soooooo I think I am out of options and the only thing I can do is as you say and start again.

  • Time Machine doesn't see the WD Hard drive attached to the AEBS

I've been having issues of dropped connections with my WD HD connected to the AEBS vis USB. My backups have been failing and I sometimes get this error message:
The server may not exist or it is not operational at this time. Check the server name or IP address and your network connection and try again.
I wouldn't mind if I had to start over by trashing prefs but, in the Time Machine preference window I can't select the HD connected to AEBS as it doesn't show in the Change Disk window.

    sperkins921 wrote:
I'm having an issue with my external HD not being recognized as a drive for Time Machine. Is it because it's NTFS formatted?
Yes. It must use either the GUID (preferred for Intel) or +Apple Partition Map+ (preferred for PPC Macs) *Partition Map Scheme,* and the +Mac OS Extended (Journaled)+ Format.
Is there anything I can do?
Yes. Make two (or more) partitions, which you should do anyway if you want to put anything on the drive besides TM backups. Use the first for TM, format the other(s) however you want. See item #5 in the Frequently Asked Questions *User Tip* at the top of this forum.
Also, should I be able to create a back up file on the internal drive? Not even that drive appears in the list.
Not in the same partition as OSX. You could make a second partition there, but you'd get a warning from TM reminding you that it's not a good idea to have your originals and backups on the same drive.
Sorry for noob style questions- I never bothered with TM before, and having my other MBP stolen has led me to want to use it....

  • Time Machine Backup Not Performed (OSX Server)

On a newly installed 10.6.4 OSX Server (MiniServer hardware), I am trying to do a Time Machine backup to a freshly formatted external FW drive (GUID Partition map). Whenever I attempt a first backup I get a dialog:
"The backup was not performed because an error occurred while copying files to the hard disk. The problem may be temporary, try again later."
Disk Utility can find no problem on the drive. Repaired permissions, and verified both disks (Boot and Data) to be backed up.
Yes, the server is running and AFP is on.
I excluded the boot volume from Time Machine, and the Data drive seems to be backing up fine- so it's only the boot volume that is having a problem.
Can the Boot drive of a server be backed up with Time Machine?
(Both drives get cloned every night, as well as Time Machine and offsite Retrospect backups.)
    Thanks.

See #C3 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum). It will show you how to locate the message(s) that describe the problem, then help you fix it.
If that doesn't help, post back with details, including all the messages, your setup (especially the destination for the backups), what you've done, and the results.

    Yes.

  • Bug in Time Machine 10.6 OS X Server, Error: (-41) SrcErr:NO Copying

    Hello
It seems there is a bug in Time Machine which never occured in 10.5.8
We had a Mac OS X Server 10.5, with 2 external RAIDs, one with the SharePoints of Data and one as Time Machine Volume. This solution runs soomthly for 1 1/2 year.
Now we updated the OS X server from 10.5.8 to 10.6.4 with a clean install.
Since then it wasn't possible to make a finished BackUp with time machine. It stucks always. In the Console it listed the errors.
    example.
    19.09.10 11:49:41 com.apple.backupd[14514] Error: (-41) SrcErr:NO Copying /Volumes/RAIDserver HaKa ZH/Server HK/Auftraege in Arbeit/BLESSING/F2010/Lewis_Das_komische_Manifest/Layout_Protokoll/LewisSmilie/alt/K01/alt to /Volumes/HaKa-TM (Drobo)/Backups.backupdb/raidserver/2010-09-18-022427.inProgress/8F2F98D2-2F5E- 4BE0-BD20-971BC9E4E39C/RAIDserver HaKa ZH/Server HK/Auftraege in Arbeit/BLESSING/F2010/Lewis_Das_komische_Manifest/Layout_Protokoll/LewisSmilie/alt/K01
I can manualy delete this file or folder. Then the backup runs till the next error. very often the file involved is the ".DS_Store"
First I deleted my Time Machine Volume and also delete die com.apple.timemachine.plist and make a complete new backup. This also stucks.
Then I exclude the Data Volume and the BackUp of the bootVolume (server) runs fine. On the Data Volume are 4 Sharepoints. Owner is the administror and all the ACL and access-right are the same for the subfolders.
Of these 4 SharePounts, I individually exclude them. 1 runs smoothly with 3 I have problems.
I repaired the drives with DiskUtiliy and DiskWarrior. All errors are repaired but still the backup can't finished
I also tried different issues mentioned in http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2057525
I suggest that Time Machine change the way it verify it file to backup. The Backup Volume hasn't change since the update to 10.6 (only some new files)
I am very ****** off that Time Machine does'nt finished the backup and give me a list with all the errors.
Is there a Program that is able to list file with error in the same way Time Machine verify it file.
The last option I have it that is change back from 10.6 to 10.5.
Is there a list with new features and bugs within 10.6.4?
    Is their a solution?

Ah, I'd not seen that. ClamXav is free, and about the only one recommended here to find PC viruses so you don't pass them between Windoze machines, as it's not intrusive or damaging to the OS as most other anti-virus products are.
What i hate is that i need to exclude everything which has error. On the Data Volume are hunderd tousands of File (1.8 Tb), it would take me months to sort it out which files/folders occured the errors. I repaired the drives whit different tools and now their are no errors on all drives.
Agreed, there's no point to that. It's doubtful there's really anything wrong with the files. There does appear to be something wrong with the drive or file system, though.
Are you sure the drive is compatible with Snow Leopard? A number of drives that worked fine with Leopard needed new firmware or drivers to work well with Snow Leopard. Check with the maker.
If Apple has no fix in the next 10 days I will switch back to 10.5.8 server (and leave all that buggy new features for other people wo want to be experimental users for the staff of Apple)

    Hi,
I agree with Bistesh. But after Outgoing e-mail settings are configured properly, if the issue still exists,
It may result from your Anti-Virus. Please refer to the following steps:
Open MCAfee Console and go to Access Protection window.
Click Anti-Virus Standard Protection and edit “prevent mass mailing

Now we need to know which processes are being blocked therefore we need to check the MCAfee Log located at
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\McAfee\DesktopProtection\AccessProtectionLog.txt
you may find entries of DtExec , DtExecUI and DatabaseMail90, now these processes need to be entered in the exclusion list of selected rule .

I have a macbook pro and an imac in my home network, both running lion 10.7.3.
For some time, I used time machine to back up the macbook over ethernet to an external usb drive attached to the imac, which worked fine.
A couple of days ago, I installed the server.app on the imac, but disabled all services after a couple of days.
But now, all of a sudden, I can't complete my time machine backups anymore, I get this error message:
"Time Machine could not complete the backup. The network backup disk does not support the required AFP features."
I am not sure what to do here,
    thanks for your comments,
    geb

I am having a similar issue, but in my situation, my users cannot log in.  All of my users are network users on Mini's.  I am running 10.6.8 on my server.  I have created users before with no issues, but have not done so in months.  When I try to log the new user in, I get the following error:
xpchelper: Could not get path of user account (uid:1029) home directory:/Network/Servers/server.xxx.net/Volumes/Data/Users/username; error; The operation couldn't be completed. No such file or directory. Using home directory.
CFPreferences: user home directory at file://localhost/Network/Servers/server.xxx.net/Volumes/Data/Users/username/ is currently unavailable. User domains will be volatile.
    Authorizationhost: error |-[homedirmounter mount NetworkHomeWithURL: attributes: dirPath: username:]|PremountHomeDirectoryWithAuthentication (url=AFP://server.xxx.net/Users/homedir= /Network/Servers/server.xxx.net/Volumes/Data/Users/username, name=username) returned 5.
I have no idea of what to do.  I have verified that the user looks the same as my other users in WGM. The user's folder was created on the server.  The user has access to the folder.  I'm not sure what else could be wrong here.

  • Time Machine could not complete the backup  (error 45)

Time Machine could not complete the backup
The backup disk image "/Volumes/192.168.100.3/litao's iMac.sparsebundle" could not be created (error 45)
    192.168.100.3 is windows 7 server
I login to the SMB server as windows 7 user.At first I see the backup file through windows 7 is being established, but in 5 minutes after the backup stops, display the above information.

TM backups to windows servers are not supported.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/15139.html
there are hacks out there that might let you make it work but you use them at your own risk and with absolutely no guarantees or support.

  • Time Machine stalls when backing up server data

I have an Xserve set up as a Workgroup Server at one of my locations. I've decided to simplify the backup scheme at this location, so I'm doing away with my shell scripts and just turning on Time Machine and pointing it at a large external array. This way I can enable a few selected users on site to easily retrieve files from the backup. I've done this a few times, to much success.
This time, I'm experiencing a new problem which I've not been able to solve. The users in this workgroup have quite a bit of data, about 1TB, much more data than I've dealt with using this setup.
    *The Problem:*
Time Machine begins copying data during the initial backup and achieves a transfer rate of about 10MB per second, not spectacular, but fine. When the backup reaches about 80%-90% complete, it stalls or slows to a crawl. It gets to about "900GB of 1.0TB" and the transfer rate slows to about 1MB per minute. Time Machine does not deliver any errors. It continues to back-up, just very slowly. So slowly sometimes it appears to be stopped.
I am backing up to a sparsebundle disk image, just like Time Machine will do over the network.
    *I Have:*
    • reformatted the destination volume
    • disabled Spotlight indexing on the destination volume
    • disabled Spotlight indexing on the source volume
    • copied the data directly to the destination volume using Finder (with success and fast performance)
    • reset the Time Machine preferences
    • used the default disk image Time Machine creates
    • used a disk image with a 4TB size limit
    • used a disk image with no partition layout
    • used a disk image with a GUID (GPTSPUD) layout
    • used a disk image with a Apple Partition Map (SPUD) layout
    • used a disk image with increased band size (128MB)
    • connected to the backup array using FW800
    • connected to the backup array using USB 2.0
    • unlocked all files on the source volume
    • set all permissions on the source volume (chmod)
The system is an Intel Xserve, 10.5.7, 2.8Ghz, 2GB RAM, 80GB boot drive, 2 x 1TB data drives. I am only backing up the data being shared to the workgroup, not the server boot volume. The destination volume has plenty of available space.
Checking the logs (Console filtering for 'backupd') reveals several of these errors:
    +8/27/09 12:27:51 AM com.apple.backupd[45548] SystemFlippers: Consumed too much data for FREF ID 131 (pBase = 0x4f839c0, p = 0x4f83ac6, pEnd = 0x4f839c7)+
    +8/27/09 12:27:51 AM com.apple.backupd[45548] CoreEndianFlipData: error -4940 returned for rsrc type FREF (id 131, length 7, native = no)+
I don't have enough foo to make sense of those errors or even tell if they're related. I also don't know if 12:27 AM is when the backup began to slow down.
I anticipate some answers will be "Time Machine was built for end users not servers", "Time Machine wasn't intended for this purpose." Which I don't necessarily agree with in this case. For the purposes of discussion, this machine could be considered just a desktop with file sharing enabled, backing up the same amount of data.
I've tried to provide as much information as I can think of, and appreciate any feedback.
Message was edited by: Arty Admin - minor correction.

It's a bug and should be reported to Apple's feedback.
Even though TM is failing in the manner described, is it backing up up your data correctly ?
