Time Machine Error message and Time Machine

I use my 1TB Time capsule to back up my MacBook Pro. Just recently, it wouldn't back up, giving the error message "back up failed, Time Capsule 1 is already in use." I renamed my Time Capsule storage, so it actually says "storage1". So, it obviously thinks I have 2 storage drives (I don't). And what is a sparsbundle? And, it seems to be backing up the same stuff over and over, instead just the new info. I say this because my space went from 566GB down to 399GB in a matter of days. Would this have anything to do with the fact that I just switched from Entourage and loaded Microsoft Outlook for email? Please advise and thanks in advance.

Do you mean the folder on your Time Capsule that is/was named "Data"? If so, that shouldn't be a problem.
But if you mean the Time Capsule itself, you should be able to re-select it via Time Machine Preferences.
It sounds more like you were using the +Star Wars+ display to look at your backups when a new backup was trying to start. If the backup disk image appears on your desktop, or Finder sidebar, just eject it and try another backup.
It's also not a problem to rename a drive that's being backed-up, since Time Machine keeps track of drives by their UUIDs (Universally Unique IDentifiers).

It's actually a +sparse bundle disk image,+ an odd container that Time Machine uses for network backups.

Not sure what you mean by "booted" from it.
If the Mac OS is installed on the external drive, then it's possible to start up from it, just as you do from your internal drive. Please open the Startup Disk preference pane in System Preferences, and verify that your internal drive is selected as the startup disk.
Assuming that's the case, then it may be that your TM settings have been corrupted. Turn off TM, then move or delete the file /Library/Preferences/com.apple.TimeMachine.plist. Turn TM back on, recreate your settings, and try again.

Restart the Time Capsule. Launch AirPort Utility and check for a firmware update.

I am running snow leopard on my iMac and have a mac mini connected via ethernet running Mac Leopard Server version 10.6.
I backed up my iMac onto my Mac Leopard Server using Time Machine about a year ago and then I turned it off and haven't done it since. I turned it on today and was attempting to back it up, but I keep getting the following Time Machine Error Message: "sparsbundle could not be accessed (error-1) when i try backing it up.
Any thoughts on why and how to fix this? I can access my server via screen share, so i know its accessible and I can get online with it as well, so its connected to the Internet.
Any ideas?

Usually, when Time Machine is being flaky, the easiest solution is just to delete the backup and start a new one. Since you have a server, you could just move that sparsebundle file elsewhere instead of deleting it. That is, of course, assuming you can still open it. If not, then it doesn't matter because that backup is toast.

90% of the time, all you need to do is power off the Time Capsule, wait a few minutes, and power it back up.
If no luck, then go to the more sophisticated fixes in the link above.

How to resolve the following time capsule error message:

If you are running Mountain Lion try this:
Open AirPort Utility (If you are in Mountain Lion this will be 6.0 or Higher)
Select you Time Capsule
Select the Disk Tab
Deselect "Enable File Sharing"
Click OK Let the Time Capsule Re-Boot
Go Back into AirPort Utility and re-select "Enable File Sharing" and let it Re-Boot again.
This should fix the problem.

The order varies depending on your individual needs:
1. Maybe you have to activate/deactivate, so please have a look there:

3. Did you already try "uninstalling and re-installing"? Be careful with (de)installing aso. by (de)installing by your own resources. I think there might be a bug in FF18. After the upgrade, I would also get the error message and couldn't open any site, though using "No proxy" worked I believe. Turns out I had something set under network.proxy.socks (and network.proxy.socks_port) (leftovers of tests done a while back) and even though they shouldn't have been used (I believe, FF17 didn't & I'm using "Use system proxy settings") they obviously were, leading to the problem.
Just resetting those 2 options fixed things for me, and I didn't have time to look into it more, but there might be a bug in there somewhere...
Maybe try checking under about:config if you have any proxy settings set (that you don't need/use) (You don't seem to have any set, but I can't recall if they were visible in the Preferences window or not for me...), and if so reset them. Or just look for any (network) options not using its default value... (Assuming, as it did for me, that running FF18 with a brand new profile works fine.)

It's best to start with figuring out your eMac model and OS in order to answer the question. This article will help you determine your model:
How to locate the serial number and identify your model
And to get the version of Mac OS that's installed:
From the Apple Menu at the left end of your menu bar, select "About this Mac..."
In the resulting Window, you can see the Mac OS version just under the big "Mac OS X":
If the eMac is older and you have never upgraded the system software, it's possible that your OS version is too old to run the current iTunes. The current version requires OS 10.5 (Leopard)or higher, which is a pay-for system upgrade.
