Time Machine Error - sparsebundle could not be accessed

I have a time capsule shared by an old MacPro and a new MacBook.  I get this message when trying to run a backup from the MacPro:
Time Machine Could Not Complete the Backup.  The backup disk image "/Volumes/Data/XXX.sparsebundle" could not be accessed (error -1).

Standard message and second most common error here.
Look at the "More Like This" on the right.
Simply power cycle the TC will usually fix it.
See C17 for more info.
http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
C12 is the most common problem.. btw.. and is fixed also with a power cycle.
Power Cycle means.
Make sure the disk is not spinning. You hand can feel the vibration of the disk.
Pull out the power cord.. (since there is no power switch).. count to 10 to allow capacitors to drain.. Plug in the power cord.

  • Time Capsul/MacBookPro.sparsebundle" could not be accessed (error -1).

    Good Day!
So, I have this problem: Time Capsule says MacBookPro.sparsebundle cannot be accessed (error -01). I have no idea why not, because I am able to access it. See, here are the contents:
Has anyone here dealt successfully with this error? If worse comes to worst, I have not qualms about resetting my Time Capsule.
Thanks  in advance for any information you can give me.

  • Time Machine ,,,,,sparse bundle could not be accessed (error -1)

Time Machine on my iMac (2.66 i5) is failing with the message:
Time Machine could not complete the backup.  The backup image "/Volumes/Time Machine/Shaggylane iMac.sparsbundle" could not be accessed (error -1).
This error appears when the backup is started......it spends a bit of time "Looking for backup drive", then displays the message.
The directory "/Volumes/Time Machine" has the following permissions:
drwx------  13 root        wheel    398 24 Aug 13:15 Time Machine
I was able to login as root and go into that directory.  I didn't see any broken links or anything that stood out.
I was also able to go into Time Machine from the desktop and flip through the backup history.  It seemed to be responding normally.
Time Machine has been working fine for 2+ years.  I suspect it got buggered-up when I accidentally rebooted while it was doing a backup October 12th.  Lion was installed in the spring.  On the 12th, I installed a Lion patch bringing it up to 10.7.2.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Regards,
    Doug

I have not found a long-term solution (fix), but in my case the volume where the Time Machine backup should occur usually is mounted on the desktop but not as a shared volume (incidated as a drive with the people holding hands superimposed over the drive icon). If I drag the drive to the trash (unmount it), the next time Time Machine is scheduled to run, it completes successfully.

  • Hi - i got a problem with time capsule stating all of a sudden: time machine error (-1) could not access the image (Name) Macintosh.sparsebundle

Hi - can anybody support me with a time capsule error message (-1) : could not access macintosh.sparesbundle? mny TXS

This is a Lion bug. compounded probably by the bugs in 7.6 and later firmware of the TC.
Rebooting the TC is disconnecting the users .. Lion is failing to unmount the TC after a backup. Reboot is forcing it to do so.
But if you download and install the non-toy version airport utility for lion.. which still has a disk page.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
Install and run that exclusively, on the disk page is a simple icon, disconnect all users.. wonder why they have that icon.. well now you know. So you don't need to reboot the TC. Just press the button (icon) so to speak.

  • Since upgrading to Lion, my time machine backups are failing - error message: The backup disk image "/Volumes/Jackie Scanlon's Time Caps/Jacqueline Drabczynska's MacBook.sparsebundle" could not be accessed (error -1). Any ideas?

Since upgrading my Macbook to Lion, the time machine backups are failing - error message: "The backup disk image “/Volumes/Jackie Scanlon's Time Caps/Jacqueline Drabczynska’s MacBook.sparsebundle” could not be accessed (error -1)."  I have rebooted the TIme Capsule and it worked OK, but don't want to do that every time.  Any suggestions?  Thanks

    Any new info on this?
I had the exact same problem and went crazy and spent a hecka lot of time trying to deal with my brand new 2TB Time Capsule and almost brand new MacBook Pro.  Then I thought I fixed it...and I tried SO MANY things, I don't really know what did it...except taking out any apostrophe's in names of stuff that Apple puts in there...BUT...now it's back.

  • Time Machine Backup error - The backup disk image "/Volumes/Data/Extreme.sparsebundle" could not be accessed (error -1).

I am getting a Time Machine backup error "The backup disk image “/Volumes/Data/Extreme.sparsebundle” could not be accessed (error -1)."
Then a Finder window pops up with the backup directory in it.  When I open it I see all the backups that were completed successfully and then the one there is simply always shows the data and .inProgress.  I thought that maybe if I could delete the one that is perpetually in progress it would start a new one and run fine, but I won't let me delete it.

Reboot the TC.. or go to the 5.6 utility.. and disconnect all users.. to force it to reconnect.

    Hi
    I had the same problem.
Then, because the problem happened each time I restarted my Imac, I tried to check the apps starting at login.
I went to system preferences - users - login items and I looked at some "apps starting automatically at login",
In my case I deleted "WD Macintosh + Turbo drivers" (an old version incompatible with 10.7.2) and I resolved the problem.
    I hope I've been helpuf
