Time Machine in Mac Book Air
My Mac Book Air is conected with Time Capsule, and always is doing back ups, but when i want to use time machine, just show me today, but not days before. Can some body help me with this? Thanks.
In Address Book contacts are referred to as "cards", I think. What I'm saying is it seems no cards are being backed up, even though is telling me that backups are happening. (Other files are being backed up). Or, I don't know how to find the backed up cards. When I open a card then click on the Time Machine icon in the dock, I see today's card followed by a lot of black cards behind it. Clicking on all backup dates, restore, restore all, etc gives nothing. I can only cancel and to back to the address book, today's card.

First time user of Mac(Book Air) and mouse sensitivity not high enough
First time user of Mac(Book Air) and one thing that has bothered me is when I use a generic USB mouse and I've set the tracking speed/sensitivity to the max and it's still not high enough and it just irritates me to no ends. Am I not doing something properly being a first time mac user? Thanks in advance for any response.
Depends on the mouse. "Laser" with shorter wavelengths are far too sensitive for me and need to be dialed down. IR is worthless in my opinion because they cannot move properly across a black/white checkerboard.
I actually (to my great surprise) love using the trackpad and hate to use the mouse because trackpad keeps my thumbs directly between my hands while typing. But that is just me. -
Transfering data from Time Machine to Mac Book Pro
Trying to transfer data from Time Machine to new Mac Book Pro. Migration Assistant closes down Time Machine and so it doesn't show up on my icons. How to work around?
Those folders were inadvertently excluded from your backups, and as a result you can't restore your data in Recovery, Setup Assistant, or Migration Assistant.
Starting from a fresh installation of OS X, set up a new administrator account and log in. Follow the instructions on this page to associate your existing backups with the new installation.
You should now be able to enter Time Machine and restore your user data from a snapshot. I suggest you do this in two stages. Quit all applications except the Finder before you begin.
Restore all the visible items at the top level of your home folder.
Hold down the option key and select Go ▹ Library from the Finder menu bar. Enter Time Machine and restore all items in the Library folder. Log out and log back in as soon as the restore is complete.
Any other invisible folders or files at the top level of your home folder that you want to preserve will have to be restored separately. For most users, that isn't necessary.
You'll have to reinstall all third-party applications from scratch, or restore them from another kind of backup, if you have one. -
Ask about the time delivery for Mac Book Air 2011
Hi, I am the new Apple user and from Australia. I ordered Mac Air yesterday, and it stated that my item will be posted to my home by 11/08/2011. But today, a new email sent from "order acknowledgment" department, the time for delivery change to 17/08/2011. Anyone suggest me what can I do now, as I would like the item will come to my door sooner. Who can I contact with for priority ? (anyone was the same boat or not?)
Hi, give Apple a call only they will be able to advise. I do no they have had a large quantity of orders so it may be harder to get them delivered faster now.

I am having an issue in making power nap work on Mountain Lion on my mid 2011 Mac Book Air. It is enabled in system preferences but with time machine and sleeping overnight it did not seem to do hourly back up as stated or any other functions of power nap that I know of. it has been enabeled on both battery and plug in dc and I did leave it on plug in overnight.

Migrating to new Mac Book Air using time machine and seems stuck?
I am transferring my data my 5 year old Mac Book Pro to new Mac Book Air via Time Machine because other methods were not working due to technology out of date incompatibility and my old computer is on its last legs here. Need to get moving on this. Everything appears to be going fine. Just wondered since I have never done this and I realize it takes awhile. At present, the screen is saying it is transferring documents and will take another 13 minutes and it has said this for the last 2 hours and the line below shows still about 2/3 more to go. This has been going for about 4 hours total now. Just wondering if this is normal?
Thank you in advance.It takes awhile, especially if you have a lot of data. The last time I did this it took over 6 hours. The time estimates are usually way off.

Restart the Time Capsule. Launch AirPort Utility and check for a firmware update.

Normally, AirPort Utility is not used or needed to set up Time Machine backups......unless a default setting on the Time Capsule to Enable File Sharing has been changed.
On the other hand, if you open AirPort Utility, a picture of the Time Capsule should be displayed. Are you saying here that the Time Capsule does not appear when you open AirPort Utility? -
Can anyone recommend an external storage device to supplement my mac book air? I already have a time capsule but want the new device to replicate the data on that so ideally would like a device that i can connect to the time capsule through a cable.

I'm not sure how Time Capsule can be replicated onto your external drive but there is a USB port on the back of TC that can be hooked up to any recent external drive.
Another thing to think about , besides a Time Capsule failure, is the theft of your Time Capsule, so it might be a good idea to consider separating any redundant back-up from your Time Capsule or both my be stolen.
TC will back up until full and then begin deleting the oldest back-ups. Mine is a 2TB Time capsule.
My back-up plan is as follows:
1. Macbook Air back-up on Time Capsule though Time Machine backs up everything - I think it's about every 30 min or so.
2. Contacts, reminders, appointments, notes, email are backed up through iCloud.
3. iTunes and non-itunes purchased music is on iMatch (and no need to back-up) and any non-iTunes music is backed up on an HP external drive (in case Time Capsule dies)
4. Photos are on my MacBook Air and are backed up on my HP external drive.
5. Office documents (Excel, Powerpoint, Access etc) are stored in a Skydrive app (like iCloud) and Skydrive syncs these docuemnts with the MS cloud and my old PC and does not alter their native format like storing in iCloud would do.

i have mac book air os x 10.8.2 i create a photo library on iPhoto and i moved it to my time capsule disk now i try to access library from my wife mac book running on mac os x 10.5.8 i always receive library locked on locked disk
Unless you can set the Time Capsule's drive to have it's ownership ignored
you won't be able to use the library on the same volume as the Time Machine backups.

You can move your iTunes library.. Apple have explicit instructions to do it. If the library is moved to the TC and accessed over wireless, the efficiency of the whole system will drop dramatically..
A file you download goes.. Modem---TC--Laptop--Back to TC--Store on disk. Double looping the wireless slows it dramatically..
As far as using TC for your iTunes.. you CAN.. but SHOULD YOU?

This is asked several times a day.. obviously people are struggling with their latest SSD being too small.
The TC is not suitable for network file server.. but many people having no choice press it into service as such.
It cannot be partitioned. It was and is and ever shall be a backup device for Time Machine.
Major issues.
1. No backup.. no way Time Machine can backup a network drive. No place to backup to.. So all your files will be at risk. And you will need to buy a third party like CCC to do backup.
2. The TC cannot be partitioned and mixing TM backups and data is not great.
3. The drive is slow to spin up and quick to spin down.. there is no controls.
4. iPhoto in particular can easily corrupt its entire library with wireless networking causing a disconnection to one photo. Even if you do this;;; do not move your photo library... you have been warned!!
5. iTunes will constantly lose connection to the library. The disk is too slow to respond.. itunes on the computer will constantly spit out errors. Even in the midst of streaming the TC can spin down the disk due to caching.
6. Do not use any live files on the TC no matter what else you do.. if you edit files in whatever program the file must be on the local hard disk.
7. The only suitable location for most libraries is a computer. You can plug in an external hard disk.

You can, but how are you going to back up those other files? When (not if) your Time Capsule fails, you risk losing them. See #Q3 in Using Time Machine with a Time Capsule for details.

Not sure what you mean. You have to connect a computer, either via Ethernet cable or wirelessly, to read or write to the disk. -

Lots of things can impact wifi connections. If you are at the marginal edge of the wifi range (which depends not only on distance, but what's between you and the transmitter) you may find the connection dropping in and out. Sometimes a minor repositioning of the computer or transmitter can solve the issue.
As well, interference can also create problems. For instance, microwave ovens are really good at disrupting 2.4Ghz signals, and that the frequency used most often in wifi routers--so if someone turns on the microwave and it's between you and the transmission point it won't be surprising if the connection drops. As well, metal blocks the signal fairly effectively, so if (say) ductwork is between the CPU and the wireless router there can be problems.
Finally, I've run into some combos of devices and routers that just don't seem to like each other :-) . That said, I've not hit that problem with either Air I'm running (an 11" and a 13"), though obviously I've not tried to connect them to every type of router out there.
Just this week I was at a hotel and in my room the hotel wifi was "interesting" with every device I tried (iPhone, Android phone, Kindle Fire, iPad and the two Airs) dropping connection regularly from the work desk. Turned out if I moved the devices over to the nightstand on the other end of the room (not the best work environment) all of the problems went away, so it clearly was a signal issue and the exact layout of that room and the hotel's wifi.
If the machine has a problem when positioned close to a variety of routers, then I'd suspect a hardware issue with the wifi card in the Air and get that checked by Apple. Similarly, if your problem is with your home router, I'd check to see if other devices also are getting dropped, since there could be a hardware issue on the router. -
I have been trying to share file between my Mac Book Air and PC Laptop.Sometimes my Mac sees the PC and tries to connect but every time the connection fails. It says server may not exisit or network problem. I have apparently no network problem. Thanks for any help you may provide

somewhere on the windows machineshould be something like "network setup wizard". exactly where it is and what it is called i cannot remember off the top of my head, windows help is actually slightly useful here, it should have a link to it.
all the options checked on the mac are only what services the mac is offering to other machines, they have nothing to do with the services it can access (mostly...).
oh yeah, to actually connect to the pc after you have turned its sharing on, use the finder, or, when it does not show the pc (this happens on and off, possibly a refresh problem apple...) choose go --> connect to server and enter smb://<pc's name or ip>
to find the ip, the easiest way i think is
start --> run --> cmd ->> ipconfig
