Time machine is not able to finish the backup

I guys i have this problem with time machine: before maverick everything was ok; after mavericks installation I find this problem: i have an external 1TB disk, my backp is 650 GB ( as Tm said)  , TM starts with back then when it is near to the whole backup dimension, the value of backup becomes to increase, and then Tm , after hours, says that there is no more space in the disk
Did someone find the same problem?
What can i do?
Do you have some suggestiones?
Thanks in advance
I have an imac latestversion.

OK.
Not a Problem with any smart errors...its on the MAC.
Something like this:
Starting manual backup
Backing up to /dev/disk4s2: /Volumes/TIME MACHINE/Backups.backupdb
Error: (22) setxattr for key:com.apple.backupd.HostUUID path:/Volumes/TIME MACHINE/Backups.backupdb/CTN iMac size:37
Backup failed with error 2: 2
Try the following:
1. Switch off Time Machine
2. Empty the HDD. Format Journaled with a different Name.
3. Choose this new formatted HDD as your new TM Backup Part.
4. Look what happens...
Hope that helps.

Stock standard issue.. asked 5-10 times per day here.. look at "more like this" on the right.
Simply reboot the TC ie pull out the power. .count to 10.. plug the power back in.
Maybe need to restart the network.. in order modem.. router .. TC.. clients. 2min gap.

  • Time capsule error: Time Machine could not be configured. The built-in network interface could not be found.

Trying to install a new time capsule. I get access to the time capsule via Finder and I am able to surf the web. When trying to chose backup disk, it allows me to chose the Time Capsule from the list and type my password. I then get the following error message:Time Machine could not be configured. The built-in network interface could not be found.
    What now?

telling me to buy a new router is NOT a solution.
And why not? Apple is selling these things like BigMacs. They can't make enough of them. You've been suffering since May because you refuse to get a decent router.
Can you imagine if a company that makes a refrigerator told me that I needed to upgrade my electrical system to rectify a problem with their device? What kind of response IS that?!?!
What if the problem with their device is that it requires a new-fangled "grounded" outlet and your circa 1890 house doesn't have grounded outlets. Would you refuse to purchase a $ 25 adapter on principle?

It is standard Mountain Lion error due to the networking ability which is comparable to wet string. (actually that was lion.. it dried out some with Mountain Lion.. higher in the hills perhaps!!)

But many people are suffering the same issue..
And the above is even a little out of date.. you might need to do a reset to the TC.

  • Time Machine does not display old files: the star wars screen stays stuck

I have been looking for an known report, but can't find it.
In Time Machine, I don't see the 'star wars' panels anymore. It was working when I installed it.
In an activated Timemachine screen, the date slider on the right of the screen does not react. Only the front most screen is seen = "now".
I used to have time machine on an airportextreme; but because of adding a shared USB printer I had to move the external HDD to my own iMac.
Time machine tells the backups are successful.
Did I do something wrong by moving the HDD around?
Did I do something wrong with 'permissions'? [I added myself as a user with read permissions.]
    Should I reinstall Timemachine?
    thanks in advance

Sort of. Time Machine stores backup differently when they're done locally vs. over a network.
Double-click your external HD. It should have a "sparse bundle" including the name of your computer. Those are your network backups.
Double-click the sparse bundle to mount it, then try Time Machine again. If that doesn't work, quit Time Machine and control-click the TM icon in your menubar, or right-click the TM icon in your Dock, and select the +Browse ...+ option. That should show your backups in a small window; select them and click the +Use Selected Disk+ button.
Post back with your results and we'll explain further and see how you want to proceed.

  • Time Machine does not display Oldest or Latest Backup details

I had previously posted this but had no luck (or replies)...
Shortly after the most recent Time Capsule software update, I had an issue where Time Machine stopped working. I was getting a"Backup volume cannot be found" message.
As per Apple's instructions to remedy this, "Time Capsule: Time Machine backups do not mount" (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1170), I re-named my Time Capsule to a shorter name.
Shortly afterward, I noticed that details were missing for "Latest Backup" when I'd click the Time Machine icon in my menu bar. All that is displayed in this field is " -- ". I have also noticed that when I open the Time Machine Preferences window, the details are missing from the following fields: "Available", "Oldest Backup", & "Latest Backup". (However, when a backup is in progress, space details are shown in the "Available" field.)
I expect the missing details have something to do with changing the name of the Time Capsule, but have no idea how to fix this... Please help.

Installed Snow Leopard, and, for whatever reason the missing details are now there. Yay.

  • Time Machine: "An error occurred while creating the backup folder."

    Devices involved:
    • MacBook Pro (Mid-2009, 15-inch, OS X 10.7 Lion)
    • 2 TB LaCie XL Hard Drive
    The issue:
I've been looking for the answer to this for the longest time on this dicussion fourm and on other sites, but the gist of the issue is this: Whenever I try to backup with Time Machine, I leave the backup going overnight When I see the status in the morning, Time Machine greets me with the message, "Unable to complete backup. An error occurred while creating the backup folder." I backup both Macintosh HD and another external drive for my iTunes library.
    What I've tried:
I've tried this on both Snow Leopard and Lion. Alleged solutions have ranged from fixing permissions on both the backup drive and the source drives, uninstalling Growl, and erasing the backup drive. I've tried all of them, to no avail. I need a solution.
Update 1: The backup drive is formatted to Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
Update 2: The backup drive was verified by disk utility and has no issues.
Update 2: The backup drive is connected to an LED Cinema Display thru USB, which is connected to my MacBook Pro thru USB.

I probably can't add any more then. Any time I've had an issue like that, reformatting has done the trick. I'm not familiar with Growl, other than what I just Googled. Just be sure that you've completely deleted it and all it's files from:
    Application Folder
    ~/Library/Application Support/Growl - if it exists there
    ~/Library/Preferences
If you find any files in those locations, delete them and try reformatting the drive again

  • Time Machine Erroroccured while copying files to the backup volume.

    Time Machine Error
Unable to complete backup. An error

While I am glad this worked for you, I tried this multiple times and my problem remains.
I think the concept of the timer machine is great, but backup methods that aren't reliable don't do much for me. I have a folder called "Precious" that I drag stuff into and I keep a copy of that folder on an external mirrored drive attached via firewire 800. I am sad to have to manage my files this way in 2009 but being responsible for your own data is and always has been the bottom line.
My Mac Book Pro just died after I updated to 10.5.6. It no longer boots, and AppleCare has asked me to fedex my notebook to them. They have warned me that they may wipe or replace my drive. Because of the failure of time machine, all the critical notes on my desktop are not backed up, and I have lost data I really needed.
You would think by 2009 there would be some kind of usable backup technology to help us safeguard our day to day data. Please Apple, do something about this.
Even with time machine, it is not clear to me how to restore a working operating system if something goes terribly wrong with Leopard. In the DOS days, programs and their data were stored in a directory and if you backed up that directory, you had your software and your data for later, minus of cource config.sys and autoexec.bat mods. These days with the software and data splattered all over in various directories, it is difficult (for me impossible) to assure you have everything you need to get back to where you were should something happen. I am tired of losing my data periodically when the OS tanks and I have to reload. Files I have created or downloaded I can do something about, but software is troublesome. I have multiple application programs that enforce install counts and will not reload more than two times. I am tired of begging vendors to reset my counts, and in the case of WordSearch (bible software), they refused and I lost significant time and money.

  • HT3728 My Time Machine tells me it cannot complete the backup to my Time Capsule because the backup disk image sparsebundle is already in use.

The 2GB hard drive on my iMac failed and has just been replaced under warranty.
When I got it back I restored my Time Capsule and started back ups of the iMac and the MacBook Pro.
Now 2 days later it is telling me that  Time Machine couldnt complete the back up to my Time Capsule as the backup disc image sparsebundle is already in use. It is saying this for both machines which presumably means a problem within the Time Capsule.
What does this mean and what should I do about it?

  • I find FF3.610 works well when first opened. However, if I leave the PC on and unused for a while FF won't load. The hour timer shows then dissappears. At the same time I'm not able to open the volume control. Restarting sorts the problem.

I am working a PC with Windows XP SP3
I checked the site to read the advice to switch off Skype 4 if installed. It was, I did. No change.
If I Ctrl+Alt+Del I don't see Firefox listed but when I finally switch off I get a "Firefox is not responding" notice.

    Dankeschon !
