Time Machine iTunes Library too big for new Macbook Air

My Macbook Pro went out of commission some time ago, I was fortunate enough to be able to get a Macbook Air to replace it. I had a Time Machine backup of all my old files on an external hard drive, however I had quite an extensive music library that is far too large for my current storage. I do have a backup computer with Windows 7. Is there some way I can access my full music library (over 200 gb) on a different computer through the Time Machine backup or in some fashion so I can put the music I want onto my new computer?

NEVERMIND I FOUND A SOLUTION

If you've not started the new computer yet, after you've started it you'll answer a few questions and then be asked whether you want to restore the computer. If you answer yes you'll be asked the source. Choose hard drive - make sure the TimeMachine drive is plugged in. Choose the TM drive from the list and let it go. It will take a while.
If you've already started the computer look for Migration Assistant in the Utilities folder. You'll be asked the same question about the source. Follow the instructions above.

  • ITunes library too big for Nano

I have a 4G nano and about 45G on my computer. Is there a way that I can make a playlist to transfer onto my nano rather than just letting iTunes make a selection?

Switch the iPod to manual update and enable disk use
The first thing you need to do is make sure have configured your iPod to enable disk use. To do this:
    Open iTunes on your computer.
Connect your iPod to your computer and wait for it to appear in iTunes.
Select your iPod in the Source pane under the Devices section to display your iPod preferences in the main library window.
Click the Summary tab in the main iTunes window.
Click the Manually manage music button. Changing from automatic updating to manual puts a check mark by Enable disk use. A message says
"Disabling automatic update requires manually unmounting the iPod before each disconnect."
Click OK in the message window.
Click Apply in the iPod preferences section of the iTunes window.

There has never been a reliable firewire ---> USB adapter suitable for external high speed storage.  This was a major issue when the MacBooks lost the firewire port a number of years ago (Apple subsequently brought it back).
The only high speed port on the Air is the ThunderBolt port.  There are external ThunderBolt drive options out there, but they're somewhat more expensive than traditional USB/FireWire options.

  • What is the best skin for new Macbook Air 13"?

What is the best skin for new Macbook Air 13"?
I have a new Air and want to protect it from scratches and such.
    Thanks in advance

Sorry, I don't like "skins". They inhibit the heat transfer necessary to keep your MBA cool. Get a soft or hard case to store it when not in use. I like Speck products.
Just take care of it. Battle scars make it uniquely yours.

  • Can Macbook(2007 late) 60W MagSafe Power Adapter be used for New Macbook Air 13" ?

I just upgrade my old Macbook (2007 late) to the new Macbook Air 13" (2012 Mid).
The old Macbook have a 60W Magsafe power adaptor, it's T style.
I am wondering if this kind of old T style 60W magsafe adaptor can be used on my new Macbook Air which is using magsafe 2, if I just purchace a "magsafe to magsafe 2 converter" on the Apple Store?
    Can anybody share your experience?

    Thanks captfred's reply.
I go to Apple reseller to get the "Magsafe to Magsafe 2 converter" and test it with my old T-style 60W adaptor.
So far, my new Macbook Air is still working.
Hope my experience can help other user.
BTW, I don't know how to change "This helped me" to "This solved my question".
So, sorry captfred, I can't add your point.

  • ITunes library too big - what to do?

My iTunes library is quickly approaching the 2 TB mark and filling my Time Capsule. What can I do?
Is there a way to spread an iTunes library over multiple hard drives but have iTunes treat it as one giant library still (meaning I don't have to switch between accounts or break up the library?). I have a lot of video content and want it to work seamlessly with my original Apple TV (streaming video content over WiFi) so breaking it all up is not a good option.
What is the best solution? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

I assume you're not using the Time Capsule to store the library...I tried that once and while it works, sometimes the drive is so asleep that it doesn't access all the media right away and you get the exclamation points.
I'm using a Drobo firewired into a Mac Mini, myself. I store the movies/TV on the Drobo, which right now is at 6TB (expandable to 10TB at least), and has its own redundancy and drive health checking. The rest is stored on the Mac Mini and Time Machine backs that up.
I will say the best enhancement iTunes could make for folks like us is to have a default folder, but for each media type (music, movie, TV show, etc) allow you to override the default. Right now when I download a new video source, I delete the reference from the library, move the file to my Drobo, then copy it back in holding down the Option key (which overrides the auto-move when you tell it to keep your library organized).

  • Time Machine Backup Is Too Large For Backup Disc NOT

Hi, I have not been able to locate anything to help me with a time machine/time capsule issue I am experiencing. I have a 750 GB internal and a 1tb capsule. I have been using it to back up for well over a year with no real troubles. About three months ago, a message appeared that my time machine drive was basically filling up and that it was going to start deleting old backups to replace with new ones. No big deal I knew that this day would come. Well, today, I receive a message that it wants to back up 621.99 gbs (the entire drive!) and there is only 59.33 gbs of space. This should not be the case, it seems to think it is backing up a brand new initial back up for some reason when it shouldn't be. Why is it trying to back up the entire drive? I can't figure out what to do to get it back on track. This is the problem with my Apple products, problems are so few and far between for me that I don't remember what to do to correct the issues that arise every couple years. Can anyone guide me?

...have not been able to locate anything to help me with a time machine/time capsule issue I am experiencing.
    Nothing here, John?

  • Itunes is too big for my laptop, i moved it to an external hard drive and now it's lost

My laptop was too slow and the hard drive was full so I added memory and it was still too full. I bought an external hard drive and tried moving my itunes to it. But now itunes can't find any of my music. I tried moving the entire itunes folder onto the external hard drive and still itunes can't find it. I tried moving everything back to the laptop - but it won't accept the file because its too big. Help!

iPods don't look for the library. iTunes does.
I recently moved my itunes music folder
    Don't move your music folder.
    Let iTunes do it.
Point iTunes prefs to the location where you wan tit.
Then go to menu Advanced -> *Consolidate library*.
This will copy the iTunes music folder to the location in iTunes prefs.

  • Library too big for single 2TB drive...

    hi guys
my iTunes library has reached the point where it won't fit into a single My Book 2TB drive anymore & i was wondering if iTunes could have it's library ''spread across'' a couple of drives but here's the catch : since i have it alphabetically could i have say, one drive with artists up to the letter M & the rest in the other ?...while having them mirrored so they are automatically backed up when i load new music into them. is Disk Utility up to that ?
sorry these are two questions in reality...
any help would be dearly appreciated since i don't know how to move forward & still have SOOO MANY albums to get in there...
    thanks in advance

just to make sure i got it right : after i ''untick'' both those boxes, when i pop in a CD in my iMac & i tell iTunes that yes, i want to import it , iTunes will place it randomly in either one of the drives ?
When you go to Edit > Preferenced > Advanced, in addition to the "Keep..." and "Copy..." options, you will see a box for the "iTunes Media Folder" location. When you rip a CD, iTunes places the files in the iTunes Media Folder location that is specified at the time you rip. You should probably keep it set to the less full drive.

  • ITunes Library too big - how to fit on Mini?

My iTunes library got too big, and I got the message saying "you don't have any more room on the Mini so we'll make you a playlist and put some cool songs in that list". I said okay, and went to work. When I got home, I figured I'd delete some stuff to make the library smaller. And I deleted the playlist that iTunes made! DOH!
I have tried uninstalling, reinstalling, resetting. When I try to synch I get the message "we can't move anything because the playlists you want to move don't exist". So I tried making new playlists. That didn't work.
    Any ideas?

    hi Jorgi!
folks get that message when they have "automatically update selected playlists only" selected in their itunes "ipod" preference tab.
plug in the ipod, and wait until it shows up in the sourcelist. go "edit > preferences" and click the "ipod" tab.
under "automatically update selected playlists only", there's a list of playlists. deselect any (in the preference tab) that no longer exist (in your sourcelist), and select the ones you want to sync to the mini.
    love, b
