Time machine need Help (german)

Hallo Leute,
ich bin am Verzweifeln !
Es geht um folgendes:
ich hab mir einen 2013 iMac gekauft, davor hatte ich einen late 2011. So, da hat alles funktioniert. Beim 1. Start - TimeMachine ausgewählt, hat 2 Stunden gedauert. Fertig
So mein Problem:
Danke
Lg Tom

OK. I think you will find a solution here: How can I see my backups, or the backups for a different Mac?. Then use this one to restore your backup: How do I restore my entire system?.
I hope I understood you correctly.

  • Photo Recovery in Time Machine - Need HELP !!!

    Hello Everyone,
Problem - How do i recover back all my photos that's in my iPhoto application inside my Time Machine Backup ? Do i need to recover the whole system back from my Time Machine backup to get all my photos back ? It's Important for me. Thanks alot ! If I open iphoto in TimeMachine its Empty... = (

Open iPhoto then launch Time Machine. You should now be able to restore your pictures. If that doesn't work locate your iPhoto Library in your pictures folder and restore it from there.

  • Time machine restore help

I've recently been having issues with my early 2008 black Macbook. I ran the apple HW diagnostics and determined it is a bad hard drive. I went out and bought a new 500GB SATA HD, and attempted to restore my system using a Time Machine backup. I booted into the Leopard Disc that came with my computer, formatted the drive, and ran the Time machine restore. Everything appeared to go fine (took about 2 hours, no error messages). However, after the machine rebooted and attempted to boot into OSX an error similar to this popped up. http://img149.imageshack.us/img149/7792/pict0017lo8.jpg
Any thoughts as to why this is happening? I don't really want to start over with a clean install, that's why I have Time Machine!
    Other information:
My computer originally had Leopard, and was upgraded to Snow Leopard.
I have boot camp setup on my mac for Win 7. (I know this isn't backed up or restored as part of a time machine backup, which I'm O.K. with.)
Thanks in advance for all your help.

Any number of possibilities. First, did you prep the drive properly:
    Extended Hard Drive Preparation
    1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger, Leopard or Snow Leopard.)
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (for Intel Macs) or APM (for PPC Macs) then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
Any brand new drive should be setup per the above because they usually are configured for use on PCs rather than Macs.
Second, depends on how you went about the process of restoring your system. Select Mac Help from the Finder's Help menu and search for "time machine." Look for an article specifically about performing a full system restore. Also, see User Tips for Time Machine for help with TM problems. Also you can select Mac Help from the Finder's Help menu and search for "time machine" to locate articles on how to use TM. See also Mac 101- Time Machine.
What you saw was a kernel panic screen. Panics at startup may be indicative of a hardware problem. You might give this a try:
How to run hardware diagnostics for an Intel Mac
Boot from your original OS X Installer Disc One that came with your computer. After the chime press and hold down the "D" key until the diagnostic screen appears. Run the extended tests for a minimum of two or three hours. If any error messages appear note them down as you will need to report them to the service tech when you take the computer in for repair.
    Some "common" error indicators:
    SNS - sensor error
    MEM - memory error
HDD - hard disk drive error
    MOT - fan error
To assure the problem isn't with your backup you might consider installing OS X by itself. If all is OK, then you can complete the TM restore using Migration Assistant.

lost word document.  time machine no help. suggestions?

Need more info. How do you think you lost a Word Document?
Try Easy Find, Search program, and search for *.doc*. That will turn up all Word Docs with both the .DOC and .DOCX extension on your complete hard drive.
If it is truly lost, Deleted, then you are basically SOL. Unless you do have a recent TM backup that has that file included.
As for recovering it from TM do a search for Pondini TM FAQs.

  • Time Machine needs "work space" after reinstall of Snow Leopard

    Hey all,
I had to completely nuke my hard drive and reinstall Snow Leopard after my hard drive got corrupted and my MacBook wouldn't boot up. I restored my system from my Time Machine backup, and after installing all updates, everything on the system seems all hunkey-dorey.
Except for Time Machine. Whenever TM tries to do a backup, it tells me that it needs 250GB of storage for a backup - as if it's completely ignoring all my old backups. I'd prefer not to wipe my external drive, so if there's a way to get TM to work again without a wipe, I'd love to hear it, but I suppose if I have to, I have to.
One more thing, according to the Time Machine Buddy widget, TM detects that it has a migration, but the UUID doesn't match. Here's the full log.

You reinstalled OS X which causes TM to backup the drive from scratch. This is normal.
See User Tips for Time Machine for help with TM problems. Also you can select Mac Help from the Finder's Help menu and search for "time machine" to locate articles on how to use TM. See also Mac 101- Time Machine.

  • Macbook Pro -yosemite install stalls at disc select with ''This disc is used for Time Machine Backups' - help !

Having downloaded Yosemite it installed fine on my iMac but on my Macbook Pro installation has frozen at the Disc Selection stage (where you want it to install) with the message 'This disc is used for Time Machine Backups'.
I cant find a way past this to complete the installation.
    Any ideas anyone ?
    Many thanks.

Time machine needs its own partition to operate. So you are not going install a OSx Lion on that volume.
If there is enough room you may be able to partition the drive on the fly with DiskUtility
Are you saying you clean installed Lion and you are trying to move your user Data over with TM via the migration Assistant?  Please explain.

  • Time Machine Restore Help Needed

    Hello All,
I replaced my hard drive and restored from Time Machine.
I have a MacBook Pro that just missed the age barrier for Mountain Lion, so I have the latest Lion - 10.7.4.
Now that my laptop is more or less back in shape, I cannot play music in iTunes, the message says can't find originals. I have tried restoring the Music file again, but to no avail.
As well, my Mail is messed up. It has been running for 2 hours now with the message "Importing Mailbox . . ."
Alas, iPhoto cannot locate my pictures.
I need help. When I backed up to Time Machine before all this happened, everything had backed up and was working. I clicked ctrl R to begin the back up.
HELP - I am not sure what to do. I havn't had the heart to check my videos!! As well, my budget spreadsheet in excel was an original document when it was backed up, not it is an 'alias' and I am getting the message that the original cannot be found.
Thanks to all who can offer some guidance - this is way to stressful.
    Clint

Well, iPhoto and Mail are back to normal. But for the life of me, the following are still giving grief - ANY SUGGESTIONS would be welcome:

  • Need to restore trashed time machine backup - help

    Help..
I was recently burgled and my iMac and my backup drive ( on which I used TIme Machine) were taken.  So I lost everything. (No, i didnt have the time or extra monel to create another backup for off-sire storage, a mistake i will never make again)
I have an older ext harddrive that I used to use for Time Machine backups, but since i decommissioned it from being a backup drive, I deleted (trashed) the TM backup folder on it, and have written new data on there.
So far the situation is sounding grim, I know.   Surely there must be a chance of recovering at lease something from the drive.
Will things like MacKeeper  or Stelar phoenix Mac Data recovery  (or others) work?
Please help.  I have lost the majority of my life's work (some was on other drives thankfully).

MacKeeper is something to avoid.   Period.   There are data recovery services but they do tend to be expensive.   Type 'data recovery' in the search box above, you will certainly find some recommendations ... the link below is typical.

  • I need time machine restore help

Can someone please tell me what the screen should look like when I do a complete restore onto a new hard drive? The blue candy cane bar is spinning. There is no percent complete or hours until completion showing. It ran all night. 500G hard drive. I think it could possibly take 20 hours but I don't want to let it run if it is virtually locke

First I would like to say thank you for replying to my question. After 24 hours of the blue candy cane bar just spinning and spinning I decided to open the disk utility option that was being offered. I noticed that the same number of files and gigs were still on the hard drive. I figure it was NOT doing anything. So I opted for a restart and held command R again and tried it with a slightly older time machine file. This time it started right up and now I see the progress bar. It has 7 hours left to go. Hoping this will actually work. It will save me so many hours trying to drag files from my old hard drive. BUT I am going to mark that you answered my question just because you replied and I am certain that if I had not discovered this on my own you would have known the answer. So thanks for the help. (editing so that hopefully it will let me click the correct support acknowledgement)

  • Time Machine Resurrection Help Needed

    Hello, all,
I just had a hard drive fail on my mac mini, running Leopard Server (fully updated). I swapped the hard drives, and recovered everything from my Time machine backup. However, since the recovery, in the system log I seem to have a continually running process and I'm not sure how to fix it or shut it off. Here's the message I see:

  • Time Machine recovery Help!

    Hi forum.
I have Time Machine setup on a MacBook Pro backing up to a Time Capsule.
Now the user has lost his iphotos and we want to get them back from the backup.
When I "enter" timemachine, I cannot navigate, it seems the interface is locked on "today". The Arrows dont work and the timeline on the right shows no other date than today.
Yet on the timecapsule, there is a sparseimage 500gb with 245GB free. Mounting the sparseimage there is a folder for the computer and a ONE SINGLE file in there called DDMMYY.inprogress . That file is 136MB big and was last modified on the 27th of November (looks good my data must be in there).
Problem: I cannot access this file. How can I access it?
If I try to copy the file to another drive it says "cannot copy the file Error -1426"
    Help!
Is there anyway to view the contents of this file directly?
    Thanks for any tips
    the wumpus
PS - sofar, Im not impressed with Time Machine. I set it all up to backup, it backs up fine for months, and when you need it it fails you. Sofar 0/10 (given Im doing things corectly...)

You mean going into the pictures folder and entering time machine?
As I said, I tried that and I cannot navigate inside timemachine at all (the arrows dont work) nor do I see any dates.
Or did you mean something else?
    Thanks

  • Time Machine needs file sharing mode

I have a Time Capsule (1rst Gen 2008, 500 Go) 56GB left, connected through Ethernet.
I just rebuilt the index but i still find odd it needs 4 mn to backup 10MB every hour
    I have strange errors
mds[78]: ERROR: _MDSChannelInitForAFP: AFPSendSpotLightRPC failed -1
    and
mds[78]: (Error) Volume: Could not find requested backup type:2 for volume
    also,
    1) i need to enable file-sharing (with airport utiliy), or Time Machine won't start
    2) the name of the disk is incorrectly spelled in Time Machine preferences (with a "-1" at the end, as if there were two disks with the same name. There are not)
    3) Time Machine seems to be using afp for the backup
com.apple.backupd[3242]: Attempting to mount network destination URL: afp://MyDisk
i wonder if there is a problem in the way Time Machine is configured

  • Time Machine / Email help?

    Good morning,
I am hoping somebody is able to help as I am totally baffled by an issue I am having.
I purchased a new Macbook Pro today so decided before I formatted my old one, I would make a time machine image so I could transfer the data straight across to my new machine. I thought this would be simple but I have stumbled across an issue.
I plugged my external HDD into my new Macbook and opened time machine to transfer my files. It advised me it was not set up on the new machine, so I went ahead and set it up, this made a new image of my new Macbook onto my external device.
When I open time machine it will only open it for this mac and there is no way to choose the time machine backup from my old mac which is extremely frustrating.
Now, I know you can access files without using time machine by openening the HDD and browsing the files, or browse other time machine disks. I used this method to download all my files with no issues at all but what I really need is my mail folder from my old Macbook.
I located the library folder but within there is no 'mail' folder. I used terminal to unhide files but this seemed to have no effect on the external HDD.
If I plug the external HDD back in to the old mac it again tells me no time machine is set up on this product and wants to make a third image.
Please help as these emails are vital!
    Regards
    Nicola Rutherford

Today this happened again: lost all the emails on MobileMe account. This time I am sure there was no interference with checking mail from the office or any other computer other than iPod Touch.
Switched on email. Opening an email it got stuck and after a minute everything in the mobilme inbox disappeared.
I use the iPod Touch to check email so now and then. Up until now no surprises.
Start to feel very uncomfortable that this can happen at random. Fortunately I back up on GTech external harddrive, but nevertheless. Any clue?
(I have posted this message wrongfully under Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger, it should have been Mac OS X v10.5.7 Leopard. Do not know how to move this to the right forum.)

  • Time Capsule, no time machine, need to transfer pc data

    Greetings,
I have a macbook pro accessing a time capsule wirelessly.
Time capsule being used as wifi network, and wireless hard drive. I am not using the "time machine" backup settings.
I have a 1Tb usb seagate external hard drive formatted for my pc.  I would like to use this drive to transfer pc files to my new mac world.
If I plug in the pc drive to my macbook the drive shows up on the desktop and i'm able to copy the files to the time capsule wirelessly. however this takes days, and there is a chance the files might corrupt.
If  I plug in the pc usb drive directly to the time cap, it does not recognize it.
How am I suppose to transfer 3Tb of pc files to this wireless time cap drive?
How do you switch files from pc to mac without it being impossible?
This is a terrible situation.  Must I use my tiny 2gb usb thumb drive to transfer 3 TB piece by piece?  Some of my files are huge.  the total is even larger, 3 tb  etc...
any help would be great. the guy at the store said i could just plug in the pc drive to time cap, it would recognize it and i could dump the files. doesn't seem so.
is there a special way to do this?

    ok i did that.
    it states the following
ethernet adapter wireless network connection 2:
    connection-specific DNS suffix : home
    ip address.......... ##.####.##
    subnet mask...... ###.###.##
    default gateway...... ####.###.##
all ### are number combinations IP address numbers etc...
You have ### out the numbers.. so I am unable to tell you anything.. I need the numbers.. they are essential but giving them to me will not expose your computer.
    Here are mine.
You see they are private addresses.. no body can link to them.. they are not routable on the internet.
Any IP in the private address range is non-routable..
What you need to do is put the IP of the gateway into Windows Explorer (not internet explorer although it is the same thing in the end).
    \\gatewayIP
With a TC it is by default, 10.0.1.1 but if you have bridged it then it is something else.. find out what and plug it in.
If what you are seeing is ipv6 addresses please turn off ipv6 in the PC. Do not use it unless it is necessary.. it adds a big layer of confusion.
i still don't see any drive on the network, and can't figure out how i should do so
    Method is above.
does it matter if the drive is formatted for a mac sinc it's in TC?
Nope,, it is a network share via SMB.. the format is totally irrelevant.
i don't even know if my pc has the right drivers for the ethernet i can't figure it out. the green light is on when i plug it in, so there's that.
Did you turn off wireless? Do you have internet?
If yes, to both questions, the ethernet is working fine.
In the airport utility. Go to the file sharing and change the workgroup and guest access.. as I suggested already.. did you do that?? Change to SMB names?
Here is the Mac version utility screenshot but the PC version is nearly the same.
Please give the main summary page as a screenshot.

  • Time machine need more space than necessary.

    Hi.
Can anyone help. I have a two 1TB external hard drives one backs the other up. Until now it has been fine but suddenly time machine has decided theres not enough room even though there the same size drives. Ive deleted the backup drive and the time machine preferences but it still wont work. I have one drive with 930GB on and time machine says it needs 1.1TB of space. Why dose it need an extra 170GB. Help?
    Thanks

Since Time Machine keeps copies of previous versions of things you've changed or deleted, it needs much more space than the data it's backing-up.
The extra 170 GB is for "padding" -- workspace on the backup volume, and in case the original estimate isn't accurate, or more files are changed or added while the backup is running.
#1 in the link Carolyn supplied explains this a bit more, and recomends that your backup drive be 2-3 times the size of the data it's backing-up.
