Time Machine Permissions Issue "fetching" Please help!

Hello,
I did a fresh install of Mavericks and have accessed my time machine many times since then.  Tonight I tried to access it as usual, but all of a sudden I cannot access any files.
It says I don't have permission...nothing has changed!?  "The folder “Pictures” can’t be opened because you don’t have permission to see its contents."
I have done ALOT of research, even on these forums, and have tired advice from Lych Davis (I think is his name), but it didn't work.  The permission says "fetching".
I have tried to add me in the get info tab....Nothing shows up
I have tried to delete the "fetching" acount....It won't die
I went to my Users and Groups and my Group is, by default, set to "staff."
I tried to "verify disk" in Disk Utitlity..it didn't help.
Please help me...I have done NOTHING different, not even an OSX update since I accessed my TM a few days ago.  Please help me.

  • Time Machine Permissions Issue

    Hello,
    Here's the deal:
I have accidentely deleted some files from my computer's iChats Folder. I had backed-up my computer prior on Time Machine. I went into Time Machine and found the folder and pressed restore yet it then gives me the error message, "The file XYZ cannot be moved because you don't have access to it." I realize that the problem is a permissions issue with the files. What I don't understand is why it says this if its been backed-up on the same computer all the time. In addition, I can move ANY ONE file from the folders at a time with no problems but when I try to move the whole folder, it doesn't work. PLEASE HELP.
    Thanks

  • Permissions Issue. Please help!!!

went to do sound at a gig using itunes for background music to dances. had to repair permissions and change all permissions to all users on the whole hdd to r&w so that i could add the songs into the itunes library. got home from work clicked on safari didnt work.
Shut down MB and now it wont start no matter what i do.
fsck comes up with modified then nothing each time i enter SUM.
    i just tried chown root:admin /
    which came up with
    "chown: /: Read-only file system"
i dont have install disk or firewire or anything else except SUM
    PLEASE HELP
    MacBook 6, 1
    OS X 10.6.8
    2gb ram
let me know of any details that i can give that will help

Shut down MB and now it wont start no matter what i do.
fsck comes up with modified then nothing each time i enter SUM.
I'd say that the filesystem is hosed if fsck in SUM shows the filesystem has been modified. At this point call Apple, have the computer serial number handy and order a replacement DVD. It will cost you around $20.00. In SUM, you can run this command to get the serial number->
    /usr/sbin/ioreg -l | /usr/bin/grep IOPlatformSerialNumber
From the DVD you can run Disk Utility and check the smart status of the internal hard drive.

    Thanks!

The indication that the backup completed successfully is the best evidence that it did. If you want something more explicit, you can proceed as below.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
    sudo tmutil compare
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up.
The command will take at least a few minutes to run. Eventually some lines of output will appear below what you entered.
Each line that begins with a plus sign (“+”) represents a file that has been added to the source volume since the last snapshot was taken. These files have not been backed up yet.
Each line that begins with an exclamation point (“!”) represents a file that has changed on the source volume. These files have been backed up, but not in their present state.
Each line that begins with a minus sign (“-“) represents a file that has been removed from the source volume.
Files that you’ve excluded from backup, or that are excluded automatically, are ignored.
At the end of the output, you’ll get some lines like the following:
    Added:
    Removed:
    Changed:
These lines show the total amount of data added, removed, or changed on the source(s) since the last snapshot.

  • Time Machine backup gets stuck - Please help

    Hi all,
I'm backing up my MBP via ethernet to a Time Capsule. The incremental backups take forever and are driving me nuts. The backups seem to be getting stuck midway. The disk sounds like it's spinning but the progress bar doesn't move. Also, it seems to be copying over too many files every hour, like >60000 or so (log below). I doubt that so many files get modified every hour.
I've tried everything (I could think of and find on the discussion boards) like deleting the sparsebundle, deleting the entire backup drive, playing with the backup frequency, nothing works.
    Please help!!
    Thanks,

  • Time Machine/Capsule Password stress-PLEASE HELP

I just bought a Time Capsule and am trying to set up my first back-up on Time Machine. The problem is that when I am prompted to enter my username and password to "access the file server", I plug the info in and it says that it's invalid! I went back and reset everything and checked all my username and password stuff and nothing works. I even re-started in "safe" mode and then started again and nothing. I would call into Mac Support but the iPhone 3G came out today and they are swamped with phone calls. Can anyone help me? I don't want to sit on the phone for hours on hold... :o(

Nope, it didn't change anything. I am getting really frustrated! Any other suggestions? I have also made sure that I am teh administrator on the computer and checked all my passwords and user names to be sure they are what they are supposed to be. sigh

  • Time machine cannot complete backups - please help

I hope somebody can help me - my Time Machine has been unable to complete backups for about six weeks or so.
Having read some useful information on the support forums yesterday, I verified both my internal HD and my external disk. The external disk appears fine, yesterday my internal disc needed some 'minor repairs'. I booted from the Leopard disk, but could not find where to repair disk so simply verified disk again and it was apparently fine.
I have verified both disks today and they are again fine. However when I try to back up I get this message:

  • Time Machine permissions problem!! Help!

I have important data on my time machines backup and yesterday did a full reinstall of OSX after backing all my old stuff up on the time machine drive.
Now time machine wont let me restore my data due to access privileges!!
In the permissions it shows that I have read and write permissions but doesn't show the administrators account in there. When I try to put admin account in it it won't let me.
I haven't used a different user name nor have I changed the name of the HDD partition. Any idea how to recover my data?

No. These are user-to-user forums. Apple techs do not monitor them.
If you have suggestions or complaints, here's the place: http://www.apple.com/feedback/
If you have a problem, contact AppleCare, your Apple store or authorized retailer/servicer, or these forums.
Running OSX 10.5.7 all my time machine back-ups now say I don't have privileges. The only solutions offered elsewhere online seem to require an extraordinary amount of technical skill and knowledge, not to mention nerve.
Then you've been looking in the wrong places.
What are you trying to do when you get this error, and exactly what does it say?
Be advised that if you're trying to use the FInder to access your TM backups, that's likely the problem. TM uses special "deny everybody everything" privileges to keep us mere mortals from changing, moving, or deleting the backups, since that can hopelessly corrupt them.
The way to browse or restore from TM backups is via the +Enter Time Machine+ option (the "Star Wars" display).

Backup stops at 45.2MB.  A customer service says that it is Apple's issue.  Please help.  Shuichi

Event store UUIDs don't match  naming your internal HD or any other drive/partition being backed-up.  Time Machine can't be sure the OSX internal log of file changes that it normally uses is correct.
This happens in the following circumstances:
•The first backup of a disk, or to a new location
•After booting from your install disc, Recovery HD, or a different OSX volume (usually)
    •A full restore
•Certain hardware repairs (e.g., new internal disk or logic board)
    •Removal of large exclusions
•A very large volume of changes (especially an OSX update)
•An improper shutdown of your Mac, or improper disconnection or power loss on the Time Machine drive
•If it's an external HD, an improper shutdown or disconnection of the drive
    •A failed or cancelled backup
    •Many days without a backup
It usually causes a lengthy deep scan/traversal (below), so if you see it frequently, you need to figure out why it's happening.

Your iPhoto library is usually kept in your pictures folder.  Did you look there?  If it is still there then you did lose your photos.  Just need to get the iPhoto app at the latest level.
