Time machine restore itunes but not the settings
I did a complete wipe of my iMac and I want to reinstall cleanly, but I want all my ituens music and settings restore.
Time Machine restores all my music but not the settings. How do I get the settings to restore.
iPhone back up are also missing. Where are the backup stored on the Time Machine. I do not want my phone wipe when I plug it in.
thanks all
Erica
I do not know how many times to say this.
I full install from apple site. Lion.
Not a full resinstall from a backup.
Then I started putting back in my backups. Documents, and so forth.
But when I installed the backup for iTunes the settings were gone and so is my MAtch Service.
Also I cannot find the iPhone backups any where.
I only wish to know where the complete iTunes setting/profile bcks and MAtch servie are store in Time Machine and where the iPhone backups are stored.
I have asked this 3 times. What is so hard?
I again saying I did not do a fuill recovery from Time Machine just certain parts. I wanted a clean install of the iMac and I will install piece by piece all the software from scratch.

Are the ones from the CD's on iTunes? You may just have to sync them over to the phone.

Time Machine Restore Finishes But Wont Boot And Not Enough Restored
I have just had need to restore my MacBook from my Time Machine backup of yesterday.
Basically I boot from the Leopard DVD, Select Restore and pick the date/time of the backup.
Restore start and finishes OK (if a little short on time I noticed) but on first boot the MacBook crashes and displays a message saying the Mac needs powering off/on.
After this the MacBook will not boot again and displays the same message.
If I boot off the DVD and run disk utility I see only 40gb or so used on the disk when my machine is around 150gb.
I have tried a number of restores going back a day each time and each restore produces the same result.
Can someone please give me some suggestions as to how I might successfully restore from the backup.
If I can't is it possible to reinstall Leopard fresh and then connect the Time Machine drive to the restored system and view the backup from there ?? If so how please.
Many thanks in advance. I can feel a very sleepless night ahead of me.
Kind Regards and Seasonal Greetings

I have browsed the time machine drive both from within finder and iPhoto and the backups appear very irratic.
Have you done a +*Repair Disk+* on your TM drive, per #A5 in the Time Machine - Troubleshooting *User Tip,* also at the top of this forum?
My confidence in Time Machine has taken a severe dent here so I am now going to be taking manual backups of all my data, itunes and photos on a regular basis as well as continuing to use the iPod for storage.
Consider what many of us do: keep a completely separate, independent backup in the form of a "bootable clone" via CarbonCopyCloner (which I use) or SuperDuper, in addition to full TM backups. You might even want to get a portable external HD for this, so you can take it to a secure off-site location. (I learned long ago, usually the hard way, not to trust my backups 100% to any single app or hardware.) And there was a thread just a couple of weeks ago where a full restore had nearly completed when BAM! the TM drive failed!
Just wish I could understand where things went wrong in the first place so I can ensure it doesn't happen again. I'll be sure to browse time machine regulalrly from now one to check things.
From your description of what you see in your backups, it's hard to tell what might have caused this very unusual situation. Something may have gone wrong with one of the previous restores, or there is/was hardware problems with one of the drives, or some sort of OSX problem. -
Can i restore from a time machine backup that is not the latest one?
I am trying to restore from a May 7th time machine backup. At that time my username was michaelhood. I had a system crash and when my computer was returned to me I inadvertently set it up under a different username, thinking I would do the restore later. Between May 13 and today, Time machine did backups under the name mhoo4494. Changing the name didn't let me access my May 7 backup, nor did creating a different user account. I have erased the hard drive and am reinstalling from the Install CD. I have set up a third user name. I now want to restore my data from the Time Machine May 7 backup. How do I do that? Migration assistant saw two users -- mhoo and mhoo4494 (michaelhood was not an option). I selected them both, but got no data for either -- no docs, no music, no pictures. This procedure should not be this hard~!!
Hi uclamikey90,
It is possible, using Migration Assistant, to restore the contents of your hard drive selectively. See this article -
Mac OS X v10.6: How to use Migration Assistant to transfer files from a Time Machine backup - Apple Support
In particular -
To migrate data from a Time Machine backup
In Finder, press Command-Shift-U.
Double-click Migration Assistant.
Click "Continue" and enter an administrator name and password when prompted.
Select the "From a Time Machine backup or other disk" option, then click "Continue".
Select your Time Machine backup disk or Time Capsule (enter the user name and or password if prompted), then click "Continue".
Select the Time Machine backup you would like to restore (such the most current one you just made), then click "Continue".
Select Items to Migrate, then click "Continue". Note: The "Continue" button will be dimmed until the "Calculating…" stage is complete.
A user account sheet may appear if you have a user name on your Mac that is the same user name in your Time Machine backup. You will have to give the username in your Time Machine backup a new username to avoid conflicts. Note: This will create a new user account on your Mac to hold the data from the Time Machine backup. After migration, you can use the /Users/Shared folder to transfer data files the accounts.
Migration Assistant will begin the process of transferring the items you selected to migrate. When it is finished, click "Quit" to exit.
When you reach step 7, deselect items that you do not wish to migrate. Videos, photos and music are likely candidates for this as they take up a lot of disk space. You can later put items on an external hard drive.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

Password does not work after time machine restore and can not reset from CD
The hard drive failed on my Power Mac G5. I replaced it and restored everything from Time Machine. The two non -admin accounts I can log into fine but my password for the admin account does not. I tried resetting it booting from the OSX CD and using the password reset utility. It says it has done its thing but then I reboot and try to log in same problem. It even has the old password hint. I changed that so I could see if it worked. I tried both my account and the root account out of desperation. Any help appreciated!

Time machine restoring files, but nothing appears - suggestions
I'm running OSX leopard on my iMac G5. Recently, the hard drive crashed, but I had everything backed up. Restoring files from Time Machine/Time Capsule worked fine - except that mail storage folders and the address book are blank.
With the mail folders, I located the archived files in users/library/mail/mailboxes and found all the .emix files. The restore said they were being loaded, but when I went to see them in Mail, there's nothing there. However, they are loaded in users/.../.../mailboxes.
How do I see them in the Mail app?
Secondly, the address book disappeared. I'm also looking for it in library, but I'm not having any luck. Help!
Arttry reindexing mail.
quit mail and delete the file /users/username/library/mail/envelope index. then start mail and let it import (that means reindex) your messages. not sure what's wrong with address book. its data is kept in /users/username/library/application support/address book. quit address book and move the file AddressBook-v22.abcddb from that directory to the desktop. start address book. that file should be rebuilt from metadata. see if it works now. -
Time machine restore iTunes library
I need some help getting through what should be an easy operation:
Although I can see a number of backup files for iTunes via TM; when highlighted I can't make those (or any file for that matter) light up the "Restore" button. Because of that I'm unable to proceed with this or any backup operation.
I feel very stupid in this as TM is supposed to be, and would appear to be, very easy. So I surmise that I must be doing something really dumb. Any ideas/directions for me?
Also would it be the .itl or the .xml file that conatins the backup I need to retore the library?
OS 10.7.4 iMac 27" 2.7 Ghz Intel Core i5
iTunes v10.6.3 64 bitChris: I had a question for you b/c you seem knowledgable about this.
The HD on my older Macbook Pro has failed but I have my iTunes library and sound files backed up on Time Machine.
Ordinarily, I would use Migration Assistant to restore everything from Time Machine BUT my new laptop has a smaller HD (by about 160GB or so) and that means, when I run the Migration program, I'll likely have to tell it to avoid restoring my sound files (since those take up about 200GB).
It's possible that after setting up my new laptop, I can then clear enough space to be able to then restore iTunes and the soundfiles but I've never tried this before. What's essential is that I don't lose my playlists and playlist folders.
Can I pull this off somehow?
For example, could I run Migration Assistant again but only for iTunes-related files?
Or is there another way to restore iTunes from TM in such a way to preserve all my playlists and playlist folders?
thanks! -
After full Time Machine restore, Aperture will not start
Aperture is the only application that won't run after a full restore from Time Machine. Any suggested fix?
I don't remember every using any Aperture CD's. It came installed on the machine and I've upgraded with downloads ever since. If re-installation is the answer, where do I get the download files?
Thanks,
TomHi, you are not the only one to have this problem it happened to me the same thing. It was easy for me to fix because i had the disks i just installed over the top that was it. Without the cd key you are stuck you can try downloading the demo version again but i dont think that will work it may find your key and just install, download at http://www.apple.com/aperture/trial/ . Apart from that you say it was installed what on a new Mac ? if so contact apple and see they should have records of your purchase and help you out.

Time Machine Kernel Panics, but not in safe mode - what should I look for
Hi,
Time machine Crashes (Kernel panic) when Run normally.
When I boot in Safe mode, it runs fine.
Is there a list of programs known to cause issues with Time Machine?
If not where should I look?
I assume my ID's "Login Items" - but is there anywhere else to look?
Here's a list of what I have on my machine that I suspect gets bypassed with safemode:
VMWare Fusion Helper
Dropbox
Clusters Helper
GrowlHelperApp
gfxCardStatus
Cinch
Sizeup
whichdaemon
Xmarks for Safari
LMILaunchAgentFixer
itunesHelper
ThingsHelper
In addition to the above 'Login Items' I also have Mozy home backup installed, Logmein, and istat menus.Well as luck would have it, we can rule out istat menu as well...
After uninstalling istat menus,
It crashed around the 180GB mark.
here is the latest crash dump:

Time machine restore not complete
I had to get a new hard drive for my iMac. Time Machine restored all the files and programs, but not the settings, so my desktop, my dock, all the pointers in software like Apature, etc are wrong. Why didnèt all this come back with the restoreÉ Or how do I get it back without manually setting everything up again.
Thanks
JeffThere is a bug for some users.. but not in Snow Leopard if you are using that as per your profile. It is Mountain Lion that is the issue.
See http://pondini.org/TM/D10.html
Did you Migrate or did you do system restore?
They are different. Settings will mostly not migrate.
See Q14 and start over to do a full system restore.
More info on migration here.

Go back to the main directory of Pondini and read through his information..
Q14-17 here on how to restore from Time Machine is most important.

Itunes synchronises my music files, but not the apps.
About a week ago I bought an Ipod touch. My computer recognises the Ipod and synchronises the music files on Itunes, but not the apps.
Reset the device:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
If that didn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
You will have to re enter the Wi-Fi password.
If that doesn't help, try here > iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
No data is lost due to a reset. -
Mountain Lion Server Web Server not working after time machine restore
Our Mountain Lion Server (mac mini) lost its drive yesterday. We got a new mac mini and did a time machine restore. Everything in the Server seems to be working (users, groups, file shares, etc) except for the web server.
Trying to connect to the server results in safari not being able to connect to the server. Even just clicking on the "view server website" link in the Server app doesn't work.
We've tried stopping / restarting the services. We have confirmed that the files in Library / Server with the web pages were restored.
Are there any gotchas, troubleshooting steps or guides anyone can point me to? I'd like to get our wiki back.
Thanks
