Time Machine stops due to computer going into Sleep/Hibernation Mode

Time Machine stops due to computer going into Sleep/Hibernation Mode then restarts to try to start the Back up process again and again vicious cycle. I have made sure all settings are turned off. I have done one or two backups since the initial first backup. My HDD is almost full and I want it backed up before I try to clone/mirror the drive to upgrade it to a 1TB HDD. Thank you in advance.

Set the Energy Saver (in System Preferences) to Never. Then reset the NVRAM, as follows:
Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the third time.
Release the keys.

Apologies if there is an obvious answer or post about this.  Every time I try to initialize Time Machine, it will begin backing up until the computer goes to sleep or the screen saver kicks in.  When I wake the computer up, I get a message that says "The backup was not performed because an error occurred while copying files to the backup disk."  The message also tells me that the problem might be temporary and to try Disk Utility to repair the backup disk if the problem persists.
When I run Disk Utility, I am told that the volume cannot be repaired and that it needs to be reformatted.  I reformat the disk, try to run Time Machine again, and get the same problem whenever the computer goes to sleep or into screen saver mode.  Lather, rinse, repeat.
I managed to get an initial backup only if I turned off the screen saver and the sleep function.  However, once I turned them back on, I ran into the same problem when Time Machine tried to update the backup.
I am running OS X v.10.6.8 on an iMac5,1.  The backup is a Toshiba 1TB USB external HD. I saw this same problem posted in the Lion forum (and I cribbed the title of this post from there).  Nobody has offered a solution yet, but it was a very recent post.
    Thanks in advance.

Oh yeah I forgot to say I use an ETHERNET connection.

    I'm using a late 2006 2.33GHz imac.
I clean installed 10.6 from disc then updated to 10.7 from download.
Now every time my computer goes into sleep it won't wake up.
The only way it will restart is to pull the mains lead out of the imac, put it back and try until it will start.
This only happened after reinstalling.  Only Apple OS was on the imac and so it must be an issue with the software I believe.....
Anyone know how to cure this problem please?
    Thanks

This isn't a fix, more a workaround I used when I had wake from sleep problems that lasted from some point in 10.6.x, through 10.7 and into 10.8 (got fixed for me in 10.8.2). It seems to be connected with Bluetooth failing to wake up properly:
System Preferences>Energy Saver and set 'computer sleep' to 'never'.

  • Apple tv loses home sharing when my computer goes into sleep mode

Just recently, my Apple TV says that home sharing is off when my computer goes into sleep mode.  It never used to do that - any suggestions?

I have the same problem here. Always back-ed up with Time Machine (OSX 10.9 Mavericks) to Western Digital drives. MyBooks, MyPassport 1TB (USB 3.0), all works fine. Time Machine is actually doing back-ups overnight. Since I got this new 2TB MyPassport Ultra USB 3.0 it's working perfect during days, but every morning when I wake up the MacBook from sleep, I get this annoying error:
Time Machine couldn’t complete the backup to “MyPassportUltra”.
Unable to complete backup. An error occurred while creating the backup folder.
Latest successful backup: Today, 02:27 am
I'm also not able to write anything to that drive, or unmount it. It stil shows up in Finder, and I'm able to read all the data perfectly fine. When I do a Disk Utility Verify Disk directly after, I get this:
    Checking volume
    disk3s2: Scan for Volume Headers
    Invalid Volume Header @ 0: I/O error
    Invalid Volume Header @ 2000021315072: I/O error
disk3s2 is not a CoreStorage volume
Error: This disk needs to be repaired. Click Repair Disk.
I don't click Repair Disk, as this will probably screw up my partition. Instead, I have to unplug the USB cable (which is bad for the drive, there's no time to park the drive's heads) and plug it in again. After clicking Backup Now, Time Machine immediately starts backing up, and the drive works fine the rest of the day.
I contacted WD Support, and they are sending me a booster USB cable. As System Information reports, the drive receives enough power though:
    Current Available (mA):          900
    Current Required (mA):          224
Unfortunately there's no firmware update for this drive, which will probably fix this. See this topic: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4196704.

  • I to use iphoto library manager to save corrupted iphoto and each time it saves some and the first time it brings up iphoto, iphone goes into "not responding" mode.  Using mac book pro, iphoto 9.5.1, and maverick 10.9.2.

I've had issues with my iPhoto "not responding" and as a result I am attempting to save my photos to an external hard drive using iPhoto library Manager but each time I start the program it saves some, and then when it starts iPhoto, iPhoto then goes into not responding mode. Using mac book pro, iphoto 9.5.1, and maverick 10.9.2. I have completed all of the photo library first aid steps several times, but it makes no difference, iphoto eventually goes to "not responding."  Initial issues started with Time Machine back ups stopping because of iphoto. Thanks......

Do you have a back up?
If you're just trying to recover the photos you can do that much more simply:
Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for a Folder called 'Originals' or 'Masters'. (varies according to the version of iPhoto)
Your photos are inside - these are the originals as imported from your camera.

  • Firefox stops working after computer goes to sleep 37.0.1

Running Win7 Home Premium and Firefox 37.0.1. Since this upgrade, when any of my three computers goes to sleep, Firefox stops working. Sometimes the process can be exited, but regardless, Firefox cannot be reloaded and the computer must be rebooted. When the computer has gone to sleep, and Firefox has stopped working, other browsers, such as Explorer also say they cannot connect to the internet. The fact that this problem simultaneously appeared on different computers following this upgrade suggests that this is a Firefox problem. The only way I can avoid this is to exit Firefox after every use. In many cases, the only web page visited during a session is google.

This is a known issue, and the programers are looking at it.

  • Computer Goes Into Sleep Mode By Itself

Experiencing a weird phenomenon this morning... my PowerBook is sending itself into sleep mode. The battery is charged and it's not overheated. It does it when plugged in and when unplugged.
When I hit the 'power' button to wake it up, it always comes back on, but then shuts off 10-30 seconds later. It's now been on without sleeping for ten minutes or so, but would still like to know what's causing this very un-Mac-like behavior and how to fix it.
    Thanks,
    Matthew

Back to the beginning, then. Are you certain the Powerbook is actually sleeping? Is the sleep light pulsing? If not, the problem is that your backlight is going off, not that the PB is going to sleep. That would most likely indicate a bad inverter board. When the backlight goes off, shine a bright light on the screen, or shine a bright light through the Apple logo from the back side of the display. Can you see the screen image that way? If so, replacing your inverter will probably solve the problem — and if the inverter is failing, nothing else will.
EDIT: BTW, I meant to mention this earlier but forgot. In your original post you implied that you habitually hit the Power button to wake the computer from sleep. That's probably not a great idea, since there's a small risk that you'll accidentally shut it down that way if you aren't really paying attention. I always wake mine using a Shift key, which carries no risk at all of causing anything odd to happen — not even of typing a stray character into an open document, or moving the cursor from where I left it.

  • Imac G5 Fans running constantly and computer goes into sleep mode

I have the first gen Imac G5. Since I've purchased it I've had this problem, they told me it was the lower fan and I had it replaced twice before my warranty was out. It seems to work for a month or two, then goes back to the same thing. I have all apple ram, I've reset the pram and the smu. I recently ran the apple hardware test and the code it come up with was (2STH/1/2:CPU T-Diode). I'm out of all options, and since everyone else is having this problem or similar problems I was wondering if someone might have a solution since apple won't fix this problem or recall it. It even does it when I have just Itunes open. All I know is that everyone is having a problem with these early model Imacs and Apple won't do anything to fix it. Please help me solve this problem.

I can understand your frustration, but I'm not sure that that is fair, Jeffrey! Apple have a two year extended repair program in operation for the first generation imacs to deal with the common issues related to capacitor problems and the like - see http://www.apple.com/support/imac/repairextensionprogram/

After watching the movie, in System Preferences > Energy Saver, rremember to click:  Restore Defaults to save wear and tear on the hard drive.

  • Computer goes to Sleep, but doesn't wakeup

    Hello,
I just completed a build per below, and mostly issues have been resolved.   two nagging issue remains:   my computer goes into "sleep" mode overnight and it doesn't wakeup in the morning; I have to cut power and restart.    If I test immediately after placing computer in sleep mode, I can resurrect the computer normally.   But if I wait overnight, computer doesn't respond and my only recourse is to cut power and restart.
I am using a wireless keyboard, but even with a USB keyboard I have the same issue.    Comments appreciated.
    ACPI = Enabled
    ACPI Suspend = S1(POS)
Video off in suspend = yes
    Suspend time = Disabled
    Wakeup Event = Default
A 2nd issue involes the wireless keyboard.    On boot, computer stops and notes "No keyboard attached."   It is correctly cataloging an error since the driver isn't yet loaded, right?   I am dead in water at that point.  The only option is to set the BIOS so that it doesn't "Halt on keyboard error", right?  This way it will continue to boot, load the driver, and I should be OK?    Is this the mechamism that is normally used with a wireless keyboard/mouse?   Thx.
    Scott
PS  I just flashed bios to version 7.5; I presume problem will still exist with this version, but haven't verified.

Try enabling "USB legacy support" in bios for this one.

  • New LG Monitor Screen Image Keeps Shifting a few pixels left and right / goes into power save mode

I just purchased a new LG Computer Monitor from Best Buy today and hooked it up to my PowerMac computer. Shortly after setting it up, the entire screen image started sporadically shifting left and right a few pixels. And then, at seemingly random times, it'll shut itself down, going into power save mode. I checked the cables to make sure they were secure and they seem to be. Could there be some sort of interference that's causing it? Or would it be the graphics card? My computer is only a couple years old. Please help!

Do you have another computer you can plug the monitor into to test?

    Hello,
Sounds a bit like a bad Capacitor somewhere... if shutdown, & unplugged from power for a bit, does it then startup fine the first time you try?
Might be time to replace the PRAM Battery, 4 years is close to their lifespan, far less if ever without AC power, & can cause strange startup problems...
See which one your G5 has...

  • MacBook goes into Sleep Mode w/o me telling it to

An iPod-like image pops onto my screen with "Zzzz" coming out of it. Then my computer goes into sleep mode.
This has happened a couple times. Once, I did not have it plugged in. The other time (just now), it was plugged in. Neither time was my battery even close to low power. Neither time did I come close to touching something that would put the Mac to sleep. I have checked my power settings, and they are all correct. For instance, I have the power/screen not shutting off when it is plugged in.
    Any ideas???

Got the exact same problem here - I have it plugged into power and my on-power setting says "never sleep" and yet keeps trying to go to sleep (actually I think it is shutdown) when I leave it alone for a hour or two. Most of the time I have stuff running that it can't close automatically so I come back to a window full off dialogs asking for quit confirmation.
Very irritating - is my Mac just trying to be green? Is it somehow thinking its in battery mode? Is there some more obscure setting that will prevent this?
Or is it just a bug...

  • Cant connect to internet after computer goes to sleep mode.

Everytime my computer goes into sleep mode it wont let me connect back to safari. It shows im connected but wont connect. Can anyone help me?

Hi there. I have the same sort of problem with my MacBook. To get the internet working again I have to restart the system. Sometimes the same sort of thing (shows I'm connected but doesn't really connect) happens when I'm in the middle of using the internet. I've posted a topic ("Problem with AirPort?") about this also and I've gotten a few responses already. Maybe one of them can help you out (no luck for me so far though).
