Time Machine suddenly stops seeing Time Capsule

I just got a notification that my last Time Capsule backup was ten days ago (thanks for the timely notification!).  When I open AirPort Utility, it doesn't see my Time Capsule, regardless of what I do.  It's been working fine for a year since I bought the system, and I haven't changed anything whatsoever in the past ten days.
Any suggestions?

Yes, I'm running Mavericks (silly name, and probably Apple's least ready for prime time OS release in recent memory).  I'll try your suggestions tomorrow.
New OS come out of the oven under cooked all the time now.. but I think Yosemite takes the cake.
BTW, how do you do a "full network reboot"?
Shut everything down..
Start up in this order.. modem.. wait 2min.. TC .. wait 2min.. client computers.
No luck.. full factory reset of the TC.
Factory reset universal
Power off the TC.. ie pull the power cord or power off at the wall.. wait 10sec.. hold in the reset button.. be gentle.. power on again still holding in reset.. and keep holding it in for another 10sec. You may need some help as it is hard to both hold in reset and apply power. It will show success by rapidly blinking the front led. Release the reset.. and wait a couple of min for the TC to reset and come back with factory settings. If the front LED doesn’t blink rapidly you missed it and simply try again. The reset is fairly fragile in these.. press it so you feel it just click and no more.. I have seen people bend the lever or even break it. I use a toothpick as tool.
N.B. None of your files on the hard disk of the TC are deleted.. this simply clears out the router settings of the TC.

  • Mac mini server has suddenly stopped seeing one or the other bluetooth devices! Batteries have been changed and they will connect to an older Mac mini. Server will now only see one or the other but not both.

My Mac mini server has suddenly stopped seeing one or the other bluetooth devices, either the wireless keyboard or the mouse( both apple products) have tried new batteries, at first it was the mouse that stopped responding, but upon rebooting the computer now the keyboard will not respond and the mouse works. Both work fine on an older Mac mini that I hooked back up to check.

There is absolutely no reason why they should not bothe be able to connect to your WiFi network. The easiest place to start would be to reboot your router. Unplug it for about 30 seconds and then plug it back in again. I would also restart both the iPad and the iPhone.

  • FMLE suddenly stopped seeing Audio Devices

    Hi,
    Sorry, this my problem
I have windows 7 (64Bit), all worked fine until yesterday, whit Adobe Media Live Encoder and my osprey 530
now FMLE work only video, not work audio, Osprey (Not balance), Creative X-Fi ecc, alert to every start not sound.
Card Osprey work perfctly on XP for esample, and this card work (in windows 7) perfctly whit VLC or Audacity...OK?
The same problem occurred on Windos Media Live Encoder.
Of course I checked several times the basic audio setting in windows osprey ecc...
What can look FMLE please? Thanks and sorry bad language.

It seems you have done everything that is available to you.
When you restored your iPhone with iTunes, did you restore your iPhone as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup? If you restored your iPhone with iTunes from your iPhone's backup only, you can try restoring as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup.
If no change, time to give AppleCare a call or make an appointment at an Apple store if there is one nearby.

  • Time machine has stopped backing up to time capsule. message is that sparse bundle is in use

Time machine suddenly stopped backing up to time capsule returning this message:
The backup disk image “/Volumes/Data-1/xxnymacbooknamexx MacBook.sparsebundle” is already in use.

Complex procedure that will almost always solve this bug:
Pull the power cord from the back of the Time Capsule
    Count to ten
Plug the power cord back into the back of the Time Capsule
Wait a few minutes, then try a backup again.

  • Airport can no longer read or write the configuration of Time Capsule

I have a MacBook Pro running OSX 10.8.3 and maintained with all available patches. I have also a Time Capsule with version 7.6.3 of the firmware. I use AirPort 6.2. So everything seems to be updated with the latest versions.
This has really been a good setup for nearly a year now, but earlier this month Time Machine suddenly stopped to work and could no longer do backups to the Time Capsule. I have tried to factory reset the Time Capsule several times, but I still get problems when writing the configuration to the Time Capsule. I get an error message saying "An error occurred while updating the configuration".
Airport is furthermore not able to detect the Time Capsule correctly anymore, so I have to configure it by entering the IP address. But after setting up WLAN, disks, etc. and enhanching the security, I just receive the error message when I try to write the config. The Internet connection works perfectly anyway, both via cable and wireless.
    Anyone got any tips?

Do the setup by ethernet in full isolation from the network.
Start from a full factory reset.
I would recommend you take the firmware back to 7.6.1 or even earlier if the TC is older than 12months. 7.5.2 was very reliable. All these bugs started with 7.6 and the change to Lion.
I would also recommend installing 5.6 utility.
How to load 5.6 into ML.
    1. Download 5.6 for Lion.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
Click to open the dmg but do not attempt to install the pkg.. it won't work anyway.
    2. Download and install unpkg.
    http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/
Run unpkg on the desktop.. it is very simple.. drag the AirPortUtility56.pkg file over to unpkg.. and it will create a new directory of the same name on the desktop.. drill down.. applications utilities .. there lo and behold is Airport utility 5.6 .. drag it to your main utilities directory or just run it from current location.
You cannot uninstall 6.1 (now 6.2 if you updated) so don't try.. and you cannot or should not run them both at the same time.. so just ignore the toyland version.. the plastic hammer.. and start using 5.6.. a real tool.

  • Accessing Time Capsule disk from Windows 7

I have a Time Capsule 2TB which serves several Macs and a PC running Windows 7. I was able to access the disk from Windows 7 to share files. My PC suddenly stopped seeing the disk - although the Windows 7 machine can still access the web through the Time Capsule.
When I run the AirPort Utility through Windows 7 it is unable to find any Airport wireless devices. I can however see the Time Capsule and the disk when I 'Configure other...' and enter the IP address manually, but still cannot access it.
I am using Airport Utility version 6.2
I thought it might be an issue with the Time Capsule and bought a new one but encountered exactly the same problem.
I read that turning 'Search' off in Windows 7 might solve the problem. I tried doing that but still cannot find any AirPort wireless devices.
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You should be using the airport utility from windows .. not 6.2 which is only a Mac version AFAIK.
Did your windows suddenly decide spontaneously that it is now in work or public network.. instead of home.. windows does this at random intervals to make life exciting for all users. Drag it home.. and make it sit there.
No go, then shut down all the firewalls.
If your problem coincided with the recent upgrade to 7.6.3 firmware.. which would not surprise me, downgrade to 7.6.1 or earier.

  • How can I see the old backups of my previous Macbook done by Time machine in a Time capsule with my new iMac?

How can I see the old backups of my previous Macbook done by Time machine in a Time capsule with my new iMac? I've changed from a Macbook to a iMac because that one stopped working and I cannot use it anymore. I've been able to import all the data of the last backup of the Macbook when setting the new iMac, but I cannot access now to the old backups of the Macbook and there are information that wasn't in the last backup and I would like to recover. Thank you very much.

    Yes, you can ..

  • 2nd Gen Time Capsule - will not power up - just stopped working all of a sudden - I have tried other power outlets - I have tried pressing the reset button - no light

2nd Gen Time Capsule - will not power up - just stopped working all of a sudden - I have tried other power outlets - I have tried pressing the reset button - no light

The power supply is shot. But that it lasted even this long is the wonder.. not that it died.
    The TC runs too hot..
Look on ebay for "Time Capsule power supply"
You can get a replacement and fix it although the economics are not so good.. it is probably time for a new TC.
If you can DIY it is really only a few dollars worth of capacitors that go bad.

  • My time capsule suddenly stopped recognizing my computers.

My time capsule suddenly stopped recognizing both my mac book and my mac pro. It used to work fine and now every time I log into a computer I can't back up (and the time capsule has a green light). I have tried resetting time capsule but no success (maybe I am doing it wrong. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

So I have had the same problem, try this fix for Airport Extreme/Time Capsule .
Airport Utility > Select the Extreme/Time Capsule in question > Disks > Disconnect All Users
Reboot the Extreme/Time Capsule in question > once back online > goto Finder > Shared > Reconnect Drive
    > Open Time Machine Preferences > Select Disk > Use Backup disk > Backup Now
    Good Luck

  • Time Machine stopped backing upto to Time Capsule

Hi, my machine has been happily backup to my time capsule using Time Machine for a long time (years) but yesterday just stopped at '15k' and wont go any further. Below is a report from Time Machine buddy which doesn't see to make a lot of sense to me.
    Starting standard backup
Mounted network destination using URL: afp://[email protected]/spectrum's%20Time%20Capsule
Backup destination mounted at path: /Volumes/spectrum's Time Capsule-1
    Disk image /Volumes/spectrum's Time Capsule-1/Mac 7_001f5bf5f861.sparsebundle mounted at: /Volumes/Backup of Mac 7
Backing up to: /Volumes/Backup of Mac 7/Backups.backupdb
2010-09-22 13:03:20.982 FindSystemFiles21281:713 Querying receipt database for system packages
    2010-09-22 13:03:21.442 FindSystemFiles21281:713 Using system path cache.
No pre-backup thinning needed: 3.04 GB requested (including padding), 3.50 GB available
I think I may have been downloading from iTunes when this problem started.
I have another machine backing up to same time capsule which is still working fine.
Can anyone tell me what to do.
    Thanks

    Ok. What you're seeing is the +disk image+ inside the +sparse bundle.+
Double-click the Time Capsule in a Finder window's sidebar. In Column view, it should look something like this:
    |
    |
    Except that in the 3rd column there should be a +sparse bundle+ named +*<your computer name>.<12 numbers & letters>.sparsebundle.+*
If there's nothing else on the Time Capsule, it's easiest to just erase it entirely, via +*Airport Utility.+* Select +*Base Station > Manual Set-Up+* from the Menubar, then Disks in the tool Bar, then Erase.
If there is other data there, then delete the sparse bundle and empty the trash (that may take a while).
Then let Time Machine start over, with a new, full backup.

  • Time Capsule/Time Machine stopped working

I recently purchased and installed the 1GB Time Capsule. My network includes this iMac, an eMac running OS 10.4.11 and a PC running Windows XP. I was initially successful in setting up and starting the Time Machine backup for the iMac. After a couple of weeks, it stopped backing up. It would attempt to do it, but just spin. I have finally given up using it. I have re-started the base station with no success. I cannot even look at the Time Capsule drive any more.
All of the computers and base station are wireless, 802.11g, and I use the base station for my internet access for all computers via e-net cable to a Comcast cable modem. I would like to be able to back up all of the computers if possible, but at least start again with the iMac.
In total, I would like to be able to move files among all of the computers. I can do this only between the macs, but that may be another topic to pursue.
What do I need to do to get things working again? I am fine with having to completely start over on the Time Capsule.
    Thanks

Do a verify of the disk you are backing up. And the sparsebundle on the TC..
    See A5 http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
The resizing seems to be a ridiculous value.. 2TB to 18.45 EB.. is EB a mistype or if you mean either MB or GB or TB it is wrong.

  • Extracted Time Capsule Disk – Can't See Old Backups in Time Machine UI

    Hello,
I was one of the unfortunate souls that purchased a Time Capsule in March of 2008, only to have its power supply die last month. Instead of buying a new one, I decided to take out the hard drive and attach it to an Airport Extreme.
The first few steps went fine: opened the TC, got the drive out, put it in a new case and hooked it up. Once I had it mounted, I told Time Machine to do a backup. And it did. And it was merely an incremental one. I was optimistic.
However, now when I "enter the Time Machine," I can only see the latest state ("Today/Now").
I'm wondering if anyone has an experience successfully extracting a TC drive, or if anyone has encountered my specific problem before. The fact that the backup action recognized the existing backups has me hopeful that there's simply some arcane preference somewhere that will make the Time Machine UI recognize everything properly. After all, the point of extracting the drive was so that I didn't have to start over.
    Thanks!

Ok, immediately after posting I read Pondini's "Time Machine - TROUBLESHOOTING" thread (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2057525) and found a solution in E2:
Also, sometimes TM will start a new "sequence" of backups, as if they were from a different Mac.
To see these "other" backups, you need the (badly named) Browse Other Time Machine Disks option. It's available by holding down the Option key while selecting the TM icon in your Menubar, or by control-clicking (right-clicking) the TM icon in your Dock.
You'll see a selection screen showing all the disks/partitions that have TM backups on them. Select the one you want, and you'll be taken to the normal TM "Star Wars" interface, where you should see all the backups on that disk/partition.
In my case, there was only the one disk showing, but when i selected it, all of my backups were visible.
I'm not going to mark this as "Answered" yet, because the regular "Enter Time Machine" menu option still does not work, as described above. But at least now I have a workaround to access the backups.

At startup hold down the Command+Option/Alt+r keys until you see a globe on the screen. Then use disk utility to partition and format the drive HSF+ and then select Reinstall Mac OS X. whatever version of OS X that originally came on your system will be installed and then you can upgrade back to Mavericks.

iLife is preinstalled on all the Macs. If you purchased iLife in the App Store or your computer came without DVDs, open App Store > Purchases and download the applications. If your Mac came with discs, insert the Applications DVD and install iLife applications
