Time Maching backup and USB flash drives problem with TC

I have a time capsule that is currently backing up my computer for the first time. I want to add a USB hub to the USB port so I can add my flash drives and setup a printer wirelessly. I plugged in one of my flash drives into the USB port and a folder popped up that was titled "NO NAME". Is there any reason why TC isn't recognizing this as a disk and letting me move files to/from the flash drive. Additionally, is there anyway to backup the day-to-day Time Machine files to the flash drives instead of to the TC, or would this not be recommended?
Thanks to all who can help!

I have successfully mounted a USB flash drive but had to first reformat and name it using Disk utility. I am also using a USB hub with an external 750G drive attached through the USB hub.

  • Does Time Machine back up USB Flash Drive?

I have a 128GB USB Flash Drive. The contents of this flash drive was restored from a previous external SSD (used as storage and has died on me).
Now I would like my Time Machine to backup both my MacAir and my USB Flash Drive.
    My First Concern is
So when I plug in my USB Flash Drive, it appears in the Exclude List.
However, after I remove the USB Flash Drive from the exclude list and click on Save.
I start to Back Up using Time Machine.
Does it mean that time machine will back up my USB Flash Drive for this One Time?
Because when I open up the Time Machine preference, the USB Flash Drive re-appears in the Exclude List again.
    Second Concern
When I open the HDD I use for Time Machine, I noticed that the latest backup consist of both my MacAir
and the name of my Previous External SSD (instead of my current USB Flash Drive).
I am wondering if Time Machine recognise my current USB Flash Drive as my previous external SSD
since I restored my contents from there.
So is my USB Flash Drive really backed up (just that Time Machine recognise it as my previous external SSD)?
Hope someone can share their experience and advice on this.
(Please do not recommend other app like Carbon Copy Cloner, as I already plan to use the CCC Trial.)
    Thank you to all.

What is the format of the volume on the flash drive? It's shown in the Finder Info window.

  • Mounting NTFS,FAT32 and USB FLASH drive

    Problem and problem!!
I am going to fade up with Solaris 10. Please somebody help me!!
Problem is with mounting my FAT32, NTFS partitions and USB flash drive (twinmos).
How can I mount FAT32, NTFS file system and my USB flash drive in Solaris 10??

cN: the N'th disk controller installed in the system
tN: the SCSI TARGET id. Also used for atapi, firewire and usb mass
storage device, but it's always 0. Use to identify a specific disk
    device on the disk controller.
dN: the SCSI LUN id. For atapi devices this is 0 for master device,
1 for the slave device. For usb mass storge devices this field could
contain a value > 0 - for example usb flash card readers often
present the slots for the various flash card formats as multiple LUNs. For simple usb flash memory sticks, this should be
    LUN 0.
sN: the slice N from the SunOS disk label. On a media without a
disk label, slice 2 can be used to access all of the medias contents. Solaris SPARC supports slices s0 - s7, Solaris x86
    slices s0 - s15.
pN: on Solaris x86 only: p0 is the whole disk (similar to slice s2,
when there's no SunOS disk label), p1 - p4 are the four primary
    fdisk partitions.
The ":c" suffix assumes the media contains the fat filesystem in
a separate fdisk partition, searches the fdisk partition table for
the first partition containing a fat filesystem, and mounts the
filesystem from that partition. On Solaris x86, instead of using
"p0:c" you could also use one of the p1 - p4 device; but the pN
fdisk slices don't exist on Solaris SPARC.

  • How do I safely remove my sd card and usb flash drives from my iMac?

iMac newbie here.  After years of PC messes and crashes I finally converted to iMac.  However it's not always easy to find what I am looking for.  The first time I disconnected a usb flash drive a warning appeared on the screen.  I neglected to jot down the instructions.  Now I want to remove the SD card for my phone, and I don't want to mess anything up.  Can someone point me in the right direction?  Thanks.

You posted in the iMac forum; to properly dismount any external drive from a Mac, drag its' icon to the trash can. Then you can unplug it. I don't have an iphone, so I can't answer that. You'd get more knowledgeable answers for that question in an iPhone forum.

Read Speed: up to 21 MBytes/s

Which of specifications are written as above.
After I bought this product I used it to save some documents which includes some very important documents for my studies.
Now I have trouble with the product and can not get my documents.
The product cant not response when I plug in to computer.
I tried Toshiba USB Flash Drive some other computers also but it cant response in any case.
Is there any way to solve the problem and get my documents back. It did not damage or break.
    thank you..

    Hi
Usually if the HDD would start to malfunction then the data on this HDD are not more accessible and in most cases you cannot backup this data to any other place.
Of course there are many specialists and companies who could retrieve and could save the data from damage HDDs but this is very expensive procedure and dont think its worth to spend a lot money for private data..
However, you can get in contact with an local ASP (Toshiba authorized service partner) if your Toshiba product start to malfunction and is covered by warranty..

  • LG USB Flash Drive Problem

I have an LG 1GB USB Flash Drive, which has worked flawlessly for the last year or so. All of a sudden, just recently, it always takes two tries for it to mount. In other words, when it's inserted the first time it doesn't mount, but remove it and insert it again, and it mounts! I've reformatted it (Mac OS Extended), but it didn't help. I've also tried it on two other Macs, and it's the same thing. Any suggestions?

    Hi anybody,
I have a similar problem with a flash drive. I was just using it on a PC, properly disconnected it from there and then plugged it into a USB hub I have on my Mac. Now it's dead. No light on the flash drive, no drive recognition in system profiler or disk utility and it's also dead on PCs now too. If I could format it that would be one thing but nothing recognizes it now. The files on there weren't life or death but I'd like to get them back AND not have to just throw away the flash drive.
    Ideas??

  • OS 8.6 and USB flash drive

Is there software that will allow me to save my old documents and photos from my G3 iMac to a USB flash drive? Or is it not a software problem. I guess all flash drives are now USB 2.0. Any other ideas to salvage my old files?

    I tried http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60394
Unfortunately, the software installation failed, see below. When following your instructions for my G3 iMac running Mac OS D1-8.6 and a 96MB hard drive, the computer froze during the Install Software part of the installation routine after clicking the Start and the Continue buttons even though all other software was off. Does anybody have a suggestion what may have caused this? Perhaps my non Apple-authorized SCSI board which I put in myself years ago?
    Thanks

  • USB Flash Drive Problems

    Hi
I have found 2 problems when using USB flash drives. I have a 1GB USB drive that works fine on my iMac running OS X 10.4.7. However, when I delete files on the drive, my USB space capacity does not free up. I realised that what happens is the files deleted get moved into a ".trash" folder which is invisible. I try to delete this folder, but do not have access rights to do so. My only solution is to remove the USB drive and plug into a PC to delete the files. Is there any other way around this?
Second problem. I have another 4GB USB flash drive. Once plugged into my iMac, nothing is detected. In System Profiler, I can see the device listed, yet it cannot detect the device as a USB mass storage device thus I can't open the drive in Finder to perform any file transfers. I'm sure i have the latest software drivers updated. Again, when this device is plugged into a PC, it works perfectly fine. What can I do?
    Thanks
    G.

Sorry, I meant if it was seen under system profiler that you could mount it under disk utility.
Open disk utility up and if the drive is listed on the left source list, highlight it and click "mount" near the top of the disk utility window.
You should not have to do this and I do not know why the drive is not mounting by itself, but this is a possible workaround.

  • Rhapsody and USB flash drive.

I recently downloaded Rhapsody in order to transfer my music files to my Samsung Phone. That works great.
I like the program so much I have tried to make it my primary music program on my PC
I'm having a problem however. If I have a USB flash drive plugged into my computer, Rhapsody will not run. It locks up.
If Rhapsody is running and I plug in a flash drive, Rhapsody locks up.
I am running Windows XP. 3.2 Gig dual core processor, 3.25gig of ram.
Anyone else encounter this? What am I doing wrong? Is there a fix?
    Thanks.

This is more a compatibility issue with your computer and the program itself. You will need to contact Rhapsody support for further troubleshooting. Here is the link for support Click Here

  • IMac USB flash drive problem

My imac (os 10.6.8 2.5GHz i5) will not recognize my USB flash drive when I plug it into any port. Disk utility will not see it either. What do I do? I plug it into a friend's macbook  and it is readable and writable there with NO PROBLEM... what's up with

    Troubleshooting steps :
    - Turn iMac off (Leave Off)
    - Unplug Power Cord from Power Outlet or Back of iMac (Leave Unplugged)
    - Hold Power Button on Back of iMac for 10 Seconds (While Unplugged)
    - Let Go and Plug back in
    - Turn computer on and see if USB Stick now reads
    - If it doesnt read plug in other USB Port and restart iMac
    - Open Finder and see if its listed under devices as unknown or other name
    - If still unreadable (Try plugging in other USB Device)
    - If other USB Device reads fine then its something with USb Stick only
    Plan B:
    - Plug USB Stick onto other Macbook
    - Go to Disk Utility/Format USB Memory Stick as
    - Safely Remove and Plug into iMac (See If It Reads)
    - If still no read then your USB may not be readable with your Operating System or may be unreadable to the firmware specifically of that Operating system
    - Compare with other Macbook and see which Operating System version the other Macbook may be under ie. (Version 10.6.8 or 10.5.8) etc if its different then u may have to return item and try other brand
    - Try all the above and let me know

  • Odd USB flash drive problem.

Ok, so I finally bought myself a USB flash drive(a crucial gizmo). Well I'm having a wierd probelm with is under Arch. When I plug it in, the only thing that appears is /dev/sda. So to get /dev/sda1 to appear, so I can mount the drive, I have to try and mount or access /dev/sda. Anyone know whay this happens?
I'm running the stock 2.6 arch kernel, with uhci_hcd and usb-storage loaded and udev.
    Thanks!
    - gza

Yeah, I have an entry in my fstab...
    /dev/sda1 /mnt/flshdrive vfat user,noauto 0 0
    It's just that /dev/sda1 doesn't appear until I try to access /dev/sda. It's wierd.
    Thanks for the reply though!

  • USB flash drive issue with photoshop.

For some reason when i try to save .psd files from photoshop CS3 to my usb flash drive I always get The disk is full error, even when the disk is empty. I try to save to the disk, and I can save to the desktop but cannot drag and drop it in. It's a 1 gig flash drive.

Hi Skwertz: Have you tried plugging in the USB Flash drive and emptying the trash? Just be sure that the items in the trash are really meant to be thrown out.
    Good Luck

  • Disparity between size of time machine backup and my Hard drive

The lap top is holding 53 gb on the disk, but time machine is only holding 44gb. Is that ok?
How can i be sure that the initial backup went ok. I had woken up this morning and got an error message that the backup could not be completed. However further backups today are progressing normally. there is a disparity between the disk sizes and i am not sure if i have a complete time machine back up or not.

I am sorry. Let me clarify. I have a new la cie hard drive. I hook it up for time machine to the ibook and after about 24 GB of the 53, i would get an error message saying that the backup could not be completed because of an error. (no other information) .
I installed time machine buddy and found out there was a file in the itunes acct that might be causing the problem and i had time machine ignore that file.
I then erased the Lacie drive to start again.
The next backup i made it to 44 gb but got the same error message. This time tm buddy did not identify anything. ( these are all night backups cause they take about 4 - 5 hrs on my machine) After getting the error message, Time Machine would still continue hourly backups and the Genius bar used that as evidence it was working.
I was wondering if the discussion community agrees with that. and if they dont ask if they had other suggestions.

  • External hard drive library and USB flash drive

My iPhoto library is located on my external hard drive (laptop HD too full). I'll bed traveling for Xmas, so copied about 1GB of pics (organized into an album) to the flash drive to take with me. Once disconnected from the external drive (where the library is), how do I access the flash drive pics on my laptop? Will not iPhoto try to find the (disconnected) library?

    Hi there
    1. How did you copy the 'album' to the flash drive? You can't really export albums, as they are a virtual entity. only the pics therein.
    2. On your laptop, connect the flash drive to it and go iPhoto -> File -> Import and imprt them into the Library.
