Time modified when importing uploaded images from Gallery

I'm a fire investigator and several of us use cameras to document a scene. We share the images using mobile.me Gallery. I posted this question nearly a year ago but the problem persists.
"We use the 24 hour clock setting on all our cameras as opposed to AM/PM. When importing into iPhoto this is not handled properly. 0210 (2:10 AM) and 1410 (2:10 PM) show a date display on the imported photos both as 2:10:00. Lacking an AM or PM suffix or a true display of the 24-hour clock this leads to erroneous and misleading data for the photo.
For law enforcement documentation purposes this is serious. Is there a setting or pref somewhere that needs to be changed?"
Suggestions I received included making sure that the 24 hour clock was used as a setting on the camera and the Mac. All of this was checked and is as it should be. The offset between the real time and the time appearing in the iPhoto information panel is a constant amount (e.g. 1410 hours actual shows as 5:10) usually a 3 hour time shift (1410->1710).
Suggestions to check the EXIF data of the photo(s) underscore the discrepancy. The imported photos' EXIF date/time (as checked with Graphic Converter) remain correct. Only the iPhoto information panel time is off and off consistently.
Any ideas?
vince

Time discrepancies are usually a function of the date and time format set in the SytemPreferences. I do not have this issue. iPhoto respects the 24 hour clock - but then I use the 24 hour clock throughout my system.
The date and time format is set in the Language and Text PrefPane in System Preferences.

  • "unsupported image file" when importing RAW images from Olympus E-PL1

When I try to import images save in RAW format on the camera, the images import but they can't be displayed (all I get is a warning triangle with the words "unsupported image format" below it, though in the import preview the images are displayed properly.
EDIT: just noticed that the E-PL1 isn't listed as being supported, just the E-P1 & 2

Apple have just included RAW support for the Olympus E-PL1 with the Digital Camera Raw Compatibility Update 3.3 - iPhoto can now import RAW files from the E-PL1.

  • Missing stars when importing edited images from Bridge - why?

Why do my previously rated images from Bridge appear without the stars after conversion to DNG and importation into Lightroom? I am having to use the "Update DNG Preview and Metadata" under the Metadata menu to see the stars again. I thought with CS3 and Lightroom 1.3 metadata between Bridge and Lightroom automatically shows up?

    It works on my system.
(Rated in Bridge Content Tab by clicking on Star Rating on bottom of thumbnail frame.
Went to Lightroom, Import Photos from Disk; chose "Copy photos as Digital Negative (DNG) and import", chose a folder to "Copy to" etc.
The photos appeared in Lightroom with Star Ratings on Thumbnail frames and in the metadata panel.
    I used Bridge CS3 V2.1.1.9, Lightroom V1.3.1 on Windows XP Pro SP2.)

  • Issue with Metadata when importing 30K images from Photoshop Elements 7

I'm a new mac user and am moving ~30k images from my PC to my mac. I have photoshop elements 7 that I use on the pc and am moving everything over to Aperture. I maintain all of my organization on the PC using "key words". I made sure to move all of the metadata over to the Mac with the images. However, I would say approx 5,000-10,000 of the images have the wrong Metadata. For example, a key-word "Vacation" is showing up on an image that should say "Christmas". This is just an example and it's creating major issues with my smart albums. The wrong images are in the wrong albums. Help!?!?

    Hi Shellie
Is anyone familiar with PSEDBTOOL? I've been told it will do a good job applying metadata to files inside PSE but I'm afraid to run it and have it screw up my current library.
I'm not familiar with that tool. What I will say is that your caution is well founded. If you do try to run anything like that on the PC side, ensure first that you have a backup of any data that might be modified - and that you (a) know how to restore from the backup in case anything goes pear-shaped and (b) you've actually tested your backup (by doing a restore) and are confident with its integrity.
One other thought has occurred to me since earlier. Let's try a different tool...
      – Locate one of your problematic master files - on the Mac side - as exported from PhotoShop Elephants.
      – Open it in Preview. (It lives in the Applications folder.)
      – Select +Tools > Show Inspector+ (if the Inspector is not already showing from an earlier session).
      – Click on the Inspector icon which resembles a simplified traditional magnifying glass.
That displays the keywords in the file.
How do they compare with your expectations (from PSE)? How do they compare with what's showing in Aperture?
This won't solve the problem, but it might just shed some more light on the problem.

    HI,
When I upload photos from my Canon Rebel 1000D to iphoto the images are labelled JPEG, yet I shoot in RAW.How do I get iphoto 11 vers9.1.3 to not convert the photos to jpeg. I seem to have tried and read so much but just can't figure it out.  How do I get iphoto 11 vers9.1.3 to not convert the photos to jpeg. Or do a have to use a different system? I have Adobe Bridge. Or can I upload directly into photoshop?
Also how do you install dmg's properly I am having problems installing them?
    I have a Mac OS X 13 inch Version 10.6.7
    Advice desperately needed
    Thanks

Do you have Aperture installed? I found your model on a compatibility list; however, there was a note that it requires Aperture 2 to be installed:
    http://www.apple.com/aperture/specs/raw.html
    According to this excerpt:
To see a list of digital cameras with RAW-format support that are compatible with iPhoto, visit this Aperture webpage (any camera compatible with Aperture, Apple’s advanced photo editing and management program, is compatible with iPhoto as well)
which is at the bottom of this page:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iPhoto/9.0/en/pht41627265.html
I may be wrong, but I interpret that info to mean you need Aperture 2 before iPhoto will work with RAW?

  • Image Date error on importing TIFF images from Disk

I have thousands of high quality (~100 Mb each) images in 20 folders on a 1 Tb hard drive. I have been using Bridge to manage the images, adding some metadata such as keywords and copyright data. I am considering importing all these images into Aperture and using it as the primary image management tool.
But I am concerned about an apparent bug in the way Aperture handles the "image date and time".
In Bridge (and GraphicConverter), the "image date" field is correct, directly from my CFV digital back on the camera and inline with the time of day the shot was taken (e.g. sunrise image at 6am). When I import the image into Aperture, the time gets shifted by 14 hours.
For example, an image in Bridge that correctly shows Date Created as 10/05/2009 7:36am gets distorted to 10/05/2009 9:36pm, exactly 14 hours later than the correct time. It was taken at 7:30 in the morning but, in Aperture, looks like it was taken in the late evening. It does not look like a time zone issue as the image was taken in the same time zone as my Mac Pro is set to.
I have tried deleting the masters and re-importing them with GMT +2 and GMT -12 in the two time zone adjustment fields. This gets the right time into the Image Date field but then the image has the wrong time zone data in the "Camera Time Zone" and "Picture Time Zone" fields.
I have tried running MetaData > Update Date and Time (with Master files ON) but it comes back with an error "no master files were adjusted ... because they have a format that does not permit modification".
I have tried running MetaData > Update Date and Time (with Master files OFF). It appears to work but I assume that the underlying file in the Aperture library still has the incorrect time.
Have others faced this problem? Is there a solution? Is it a known bug that Apple might fix one day?
    Regards
    Peter

I am seeing a very similar problem when importing TIFF files back to Aperture.
This is what I do and what I see:
    1. I import RAW images from my camera into Aperture. They show the correct date and time.
    2. I open an RAW image in Photoshop (CS4) directly from the finder. The image inside Photoshop (file/info) shows the correct date and time.
    3. After editing I save my image as 16bit TIFF and it still shows correct date and time.
    4. I import the new TIFF back into Aperture. The time is shifted back 15 hrs!
I can then go in and Metadata/Update Date and Time (no masters) and it works well, but it is a pain to do on each image I process.
In all cases camera and image timezone is set to US Pacific as it should be.
To me this seems like Aperture is somehow miss-interpreting the timezone when reimporting TIFFs.
I have not tried importing JPEGs or PSDs back but I will and will report back...

  • How can I import selected images from a folder instead of the whole folder in iPhoto 9.5.2?

    Hi there,
I was trying to help my parents import some photos from a folder they have created with photos from their holiday. They only want to import select images from this folder into iPhoto. I said it would be easy and they can do it in 2 ways. First, they can drag and drop selected photos from their folder into iPhoto - and this works for them. However, more convieniently, they can click file>import to Library and then select the photos they want by going into the folder... Well that's how it works on my iPhoto '11 at least. When they showed me their screen via Skype (they are running iPhoto 9.5.2), when they click import to library, and try to go into the folder containing their photos, it imports the whole thing and there appears to be no way that they can enter the folder to select just a few photos from what I could see.
Does anyone know anything aout this problem?
    Cheers.

What view are using in the Import dialogue. Column view might be easiest to navigate.

when I upload videos from iphone 4 to PC they skip frames. It isn't camera shake or anything like that.  Any solutions?

Wow that was really quick, thank you so much.  Im not sure at all which version it was because i said it was around 4 years ago he bought it.  I know it isn't under his username, since he's a PC person (ugh) so i know its probably registered to one of our actual names.  isn't there some way to look it up since we did register it, because I'm not even sure where the disks are from when we bought it (we've moved a lot and also have two storage lockers, i know i would have kept it with other disks) but my cd rom drive is actually broken on my computer as well ( i think it got stepped on and is now squished and won't eject or run disks.)
So is there anyway they can look up that its registered to one of our names since we did register it when we bought and installed it, or do i really have to find the disk with some sort of proof of purchase (i know there would be no receipt after all this time)
either way, ill do what you suggested to the best of my abilities and thank you so much for answering my questions, i can't even open the program as its incompatible and find out the info from that) so I'm in a bit of a pickle and your response was so thorough and it didn't seem to be posted long enough to even write a well researched response, thanks, all the best,

  • I'm trying to make a slideshow in iMovie, but when I upload photos from my Aperture Library into the iMovie Photo Browser some photos (305 out of 427) are missing. How do I get iMovie to upload all of them?

I'm trying to make a slideshow in iMovie, but when I upload photos from my Aperture Library into the iMovie Photo Browser, some photos (305 out of 427) are missing. How do I get iMovie to upload all of them?

I have same problem. I could only see a fraction of my project photos if I browse the Aperture lbrary. It is the same problem when I sync the aperture photos to my iPhone or iPad. I still cannot solve it but I know a way to go around it for your iMovie to see the pictures so that you can work on your iMovie.
    Here is the work around:
Export the photos from your album to your hard disk and re-import into your iPhoto. Now you should be able to see those photos that you want to work on in iMovie when you browse your iPhot library.

  • When importing raw photos from Nikon D90 aperture seems to automatically adjust exposure darker. why? How can I stop this?

When importing raw photos from Nikon D90 aperture seems to automatically adjust exposure darker. why? How can I stop this?

This is typical of the default NEF RAW conversion of Aperture and the best thing you can do is set up a few presets to apply to all of your RAW images to get a tone curve and colors that is pleasing to you as a default. The in camera JPEGs / embedded JPEGs (that you first see during import) are treated to the Nikon "Picture Control" settings that are set on the camera - the RAW's as interpreted by Aperture are not.
I have written extensively and even have a few downloadable presets on my site - look for NEF...

  • How do I import RAW images from Sony NEX 5-R to iPhoto?

I have Mountain Lion 10.8.2 and iPhoto 9.4.2 and have installed Digital Camera RAW compatability update 4.01 but still can't import RAW images from my new Sony NEX 5-R digital camera.. any ideas? I also have Photoshop CS6 - should I import through that if iPhoto isn't a feasible option..?

This is the list of currently supported cameras
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5371?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
The Nex5-R is not on the List and so that Raw format is not supported at this time.
Note: The Raw from every model of camera is different. Note: that's every model not every brand. So, the NEF produced by a Nikon D40 is not the same as the NEF produced by a D60, the CR2 produced by a Canon 350 is not the same as the CR2 produced by a Canon 400.
Therefore the Raw for every camera model needs to be added individually. If yours is not supported then let them know you want it:
iPhoto menu -> Provide iPhoto Feedback

  • Uploading images from PE6

I will learn this yet. Can anybody tell me how to upload images from PE6 to a stock photography web site.

    Hi dongieux!
    Thanks for posting.
In the left margin of ImageBrowser EX, select the folder containing the images.  Then, hold the CTRL key and click on each image you want to upload to select it.  After they are selected, click on the Canon Image Gateway button at the time, then Upload Images.

  • When importing jpeg images I am getting 2 dupplicates need fix.

When I import jpeg images from Sony a77 camera to my windows 7 computer I am getting 2 more dupplicates, the 2nd one has noise that looks like rectangles . Is there a fix for this? It is on elements 10.

For Importing from Camera, I am guessing you are using 'From Card or card reader'. The media imported in this way is imported via Adobe Photodownloader. Can you please check if the option for 'Automatically fix red eyes' is unchecked? It would be good if you can paste the snapshot of the import dialog you are using. I am guessing some setting in import dialog is causing this issue.
