Cannot adjust time of individual frame in slideshow IN IPHOTO 08 itself. Time choice "frozen' at the standard 3 secs setting for the rest of the slideshow. The button in 'ADJUST' selection doesn't respond to mouse click.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Try the following: close iPhoto, delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder, launch iPhoto and see if that helps.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: iPhoto 8's new option in the library rebuild pane, "Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" may make this tip obsolete. We'll know when users have occasion to use it and see if that's the case.

Is it possible to export an individual frame from imovie to iphoto as a single photograph? How do you do it?

First, get an app called MPEG Streamclip, which is free. (google MPEG Streamclip from Squared 5)
Open MPEG Streamclip.
In iMovie, select the clip you need. Then, right-click/Reveal in Finder.
Drag this clip into MPEG Streamclip
In MPEG Streamclip, move the playhead to the frame you want.
In MPEG Streamclip, click FILE/EXPORT FRAME.
Choose JPEG, TIFF, or PNG and give it a name.
You can then drag this photo into iPhoto.

I tried to download some photos from a corrupted CD and now every time I try to open iPhoto the frame pops up but nothing will load. I just get the spinning color wheel. Any ideas???

What version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later:
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

I go in to Time Machine, then Pictures and iPhoto Library but cannot open any further - is this where they should be for me to open the whole library as I can't open it?

Time Machine can't restore individual pictures on iPhoto. If you want to restore a photo from the Time Machine backup, you have to restore the whole library and you will lose recent changes.
A workaround would be to access to your Time Machine drive manually and restore the iPhoto library from the backup you want to a folder. Open a Finder window, choose your Time Machine drive in the sidebar and go to Backups.backupdb > yourcomputername > backupdate (being the date when the backup was created) > Macintosh HD (or the disk name you selected) > Users > youruserfolder > Pictures, and copy the iPhoto library to another folder. Open the old library, extract the photos and copy them to your current iPhoto library.
If you just wanted to view individual photos from an iPhoto backup you have in Time Machine, you just have to restore the iPhoto library to another folder (in case you don't want to lose your current iPhoto library)

Here is one way to do it, although you will see there could be variations.
1) Open iMovie
2) Start a new project - name it Stills for iPhoto (or a name of your choice)
3) Go to your EVENT. Find the spot with the cursor that you want a photo of. Right-click (or control-click if you don't have a mouse) and select ADD STILL FRAME TO PROJECT.
4) The photo should be in the Project called Stills for iPhoto.
5) Right-click (control-click) on the photo and select REVEAL IN FINDER.
6)When the finder window opens, right-click and select COPY. Go to your Desktop or a folder of your choice and right-click PASTE
7) Drag the photo from your Desktop to iPhoto

How can I change the date "taken" on individual photos in iPhoto? I have some photos that were scanned and the date "taken" info displays the day the picture was scanned as opposed to the date it was actually taken. Is there some way to edit this information?

In iPhoto '11 on your Mac use the command "Photos > Adjust Date and Time" and enable the "Modify original files" option, if you want to set the date of the originals to the correct date as well.

INdividual Frames disappear

I am having problems with the individual frames on the
timeline disappearing. I have reset the settings multiple times and
cannot find any settings to put the individual frames back on. It
seems like a system wide preference because all users on the
machine have the same issue. Can anyone help?

A few things:
How much time are you willing to devote to finding a precise frame among the hundred of thousands that would be generated in single 12-hour period? Actually, it would be 1,294,704 in 12 hours; I did the arithmetic. Wouldn't the closest second be adequate?
Virtual Dub? For your ends, I say, "Ugh!"
Attaching a camera to a tree isn't a bad idea; attaching a camera to a sapling or a very young tree is a different story. You need a stable mount.
Apparently the exposure of the image isn't a very big concern, which is fine if it's okay with you.
In AE, you can run video backwards. You can use Time Remapping, or you can go to the Stretch panel and set it to negative 100. You'd have to move the clip in the timeline if you use it.
All in all, I get the notion that you're trying to use AE for something it wasn't designed to do. It's primarily for effects and compositing of images shot for commercial video/film production.
Engineers, while a being a most admirable group of individuals, aren't necessarily the prime users of the application. You might want to investigate other avenues.
Now, I hope for your sake that I'm all wet in my remarks. I hope other people have better solutions than mine for your situation. Time will tell.

DVD movie frame into iPhoto

Old movies were put DVD and use DVD PLAYER for viewing. I would like to import individual frames (cells) to iPhoto.

Thank you. This works quite well. When I grab the picture it only saves as TIFF, which I than open in PhotoshopElements6 and convert to jpeg and than import to iPhoto. A little convoluted but is a very worthwhile solution.

GIF individual frame timing

I have a GIF that uses variable framerates throughout. It plays back correctly in web browsers, and opening it in GIMP shows the time for each frame. If I import it into Premiere CS6, it plays at a constant average framerate.
Is there a way to preserve the correct frame timing without cutting and splicing several copies of the source GIF?

I connected an external HD to Time Capsule to use for iPhoto library - can I include it in backup

OK - So my Macbook Pro's 200GB hard drive is cramping my style. I have a 500GB Time Capsule that I use for backups. I have a 1TB Western Digital external HD that I have no connected to the time capsule, and moved my iPhoto library to it.
I'm continuing backup up my Macbook Pro to the Time Capsule hard drive, but I'd like to include the data on the external hard drive.
i can't seem to figure out exactly how to include it. i plan on putting all my pictures and videos on that hard drive, and i'd rather leave it plugged in to the time capsule rather than plugging it in to my macbook every time i need it.
Thoughts?
And - to add to that, can i access the iPhoto library remotely if i am travelling? I know i need to do the OS update to benefit from the cloud services, but i was hoping to figure this out first
running OS X 10.6.8

Why is leaving it connected to the time capsule not recommended?
As LaPastenague previously mentioned, Time Machine cannot backup a network drive, so you have to use yet another application if you want to automate backups.
i just thought it would be nice to have it as "networked attached storage"
It's nice, but again, you have to add more actions to backup the attached drive.
iPhoto has its own requirements as far as libraries, etc. You really should post in the iPhoto support area to let the experts over there sort things out.

How do I display the individual frames of a clip in the timeline?

I've imported an image sequence into Premiere Pro and dragged it into a video track so it shows up as a clip. So far, so good. But when I click on the display options for the track and "Show Frames", all it gives me are these large, unhelpful thumbnails along the the length of the clip that don't even match the timeline ruler at the top. I can't select individual frames to shuffle them around or delete them. I've tried looking in Preferences, View, etc., all over the internet through different forums, and right clicking everywhere in every window to try and find an option to turn on an individual frame view, and I found zilch. Any help with this problem would be much appreciated.

No, it's not. The 'order' of animation is something that has to be carefully planned and tweaked by the animator, and anyway, there are different kinds of animation. Some is completely abstract, without any apparent order. And if all you have is a raw image sequence, like I do, then sometimes you have mistakes in one frame that were corrected in another, and you want to find them and take them out, not to mention experimenting with the timing. Let's say you have a motion that makes an arc in 12 drawings. If you take out 2 or 3 at different places towards the end, you can give the appearance that the animation subject complete the arc at an accelerated pace without the motion seeming 'incorrect.'
What I need to do is to be able to grab and pull individual frames like this so I can properly put together my project.

If I recall correctly this is how.
In iPhoto open event that you need to restore the photo to ( the event that originally contained it )
Then open TM it should show that same event and then go back in time until you find the missing shot
Highlight the one you need to restore and tell TM to restore it.

HHi, thank you for the reply. I have checked my iPad and iPhone and neither has iCloud Photo Library (Beta) enabled. Turned off in both. Photostream is turned on.
i tried to sort it out by dragging all the photos to Events on the Mac and then deleting them from iCloud - (left hand side of iPhoto under the section 'Shared'). the photos now show up in Events. I did force quit but the issue remains. The message reads ' photos are bing imported to the library. Please wait for import to complete.'
i can't empty iPhoto trash either. The message read "Delete error. Please wait for import to complete.'
WHen I was moving the photos to the Events I always had a message about duplicates - to the effect that the photos already existed, did I want to import them? I clicked on Yes, import all duplicates. But when it showed the images - duplicates side by side - one showed the photo and the other was blank.
I really don't know what to do! And I don't know how to handle my iOS devices. Is it to do with the large number of photos? Any help, advice appreciated.
