Time reduction for getting materials as per plants, login from R/3

Hi All,
I am technical person working on SRM . Our SRM configuration uses the ITS for the end user to login to SRM server.
The requirement is that, the user logged into the SRM must see the material for the plants which they are assigned in org. structure(through search help) while creating the shopping cart.
Since I was unable to find any link between the Plants and material in the SRM server, I used the RFC fucntions to do the same i.e i tried getting the materials from the backend.
But the time taken to achieve the objective is more due to the amount of the materials .
Could you please suggest any means by which I can avoid going to backend sytem and achieve the same in the SRM system?

Thanks for the pointers to the discussion. They did provide certain insights to as, what can be the possible alternatives.
I am interested in knowing or want a final word or confirmation, whether I can by any means use the SRM server only for getting the materials based on user and hence plant, without querying the backend.
From what I have seen in dicussion , I think that only resort is to get to the backend to do the same, whether I develop RFC enabled Function module in backend or use the BAPI_GET_LIST or the META_* function

No. I tried it on my Time Machine (I had just made one change today, so I knew I would not be left in the lurch if I failed) and when I clicked on restore I got this message:

Time required for getting DataSet info

I'm interested in hearing about what sort of times others have encountered in getting output from the "List Data Set Runs" and "Read Data Set Run by Id" vis.
It's my first use of datasets and the information is fine, but with 500 datasets it is taking ~30 sec for the above VIs to do their thing (LVDSC 6.1, P4). The time required seems to be a very nice linear function of the nb. of datasets so when there's the 2500-5000 datasets I expect to have in my database, it'll be ~3 to 6 minutes. This will really mess up my intended use of them in a quick user interface.
If it makes any difference, the number of tags in my dataset is 0 (zero). I'm just interested in the start time, end time, and description.

I can't give you comparable numbers as I am on DSC 7.0. But here's something that might be of interest to you:
1. If all that you are interested in is the Start time, End time, (of the runs, and not traces), and the Description, then you can make-do with just the 'List Data Set Runs' VI. This VI returns this info' for all the Runs in a given DataSet. You would unbundle the 'data runs' cluster to get this info'. You do not need to use the 'Read Data Set Run by ID' VI.
The 'Read Data Set Run by ID' VI internally basically looks-up the run, if found, gets the trace info' for each tag in that run. These are expensive operations by their nature.
Also, normally, the Description remains the same for Runs within a DataSet. If thi
s is the case with you, you just read the Description from the first Run. (Of course, it's very much possible that the Description changes from run to run. In that case you got to read all).
2. In DSC 7.0, my 'List Data Set Runs' VI takes about 4 seconds to return 500 runs. And about 7 seconds for 1000 runs. I have one tag in my DataSet but no description. This is way faster than what you are seeing (plus my test machine is a crappy 450MHz P3). I know DataSets and Citadel in general has improved considerably in DSC 7.0. DataSets are now built into Citadel. You may want to get an Eval copy of 7.0 and see if the difference is as significant as we're seeing here.

Getting error in trasfer plant details from R/3 system to APO

We are planning to transfer plant from R/3 system to APO as location.
After generating integration model (CFM1) and transferring it to APO trough transaction
CFM2, we are getting below error .it is fetching geographic details like langitude and lattitude from some table result in dump.
Please see attached file from more details.
Error contains time and date values are always same,there might be because of buffer.
Please provide some valuable reason to avaoid issue.

I have a current 2TB Time Capsule. I would like to add more ethernet ports for needed expansion. Will an Airport Extreme conflict with the Time Capsule for needed ethernet ports and will wireless from both units conflict?

I own a current 2TB Time Capsule and I need to expand my network system to include more ethernet (wired) ports. I am considering an Airport Extreme that would give me enough wired ports. Will the wireless capabilities of both units conflict with each other? I only need one wireless network. Thank you for any help.

While you could certainly add an AirPort Extreme to provide additional Ethernet ports, you could also save about $150 by purchasing an inexpensive switch, such as one of these:

Consumer grade Ethernet switches typically come in five and eight port configurations. Just be aware that a five port switch only conveys the ability to add three additional devices. An eight port switch conveys the ability to add six additional devices.
An 8 port switch provides twice the capacity of a 5 port switch for considerably less than twice the cost. The price difference between the two is often only $10 or so.
I just checked, the 8 port version of the Trendnet switch above costs exactly $4 more.
An AirPort Extreme is a very flexible full featured wireless router, and would provide three additional LAN ports for wired devices. If all you need is a few more ports though, it's overkill.

Help, for getting data(photos, songs or vid) from multiple sources.....

Here is a background of the situation. I've bought my Ipod, October 06. I still don't own a laptop or a PC due to the lack of space of living on a ship(Navy). When I got my Ipod I used a friend's laptop. I installed Itunes on there and was able to import songs I had from my collection of CDs and Photos. Just recently I separated from that command. Now I want to put some new songs and photos I've recently acquired. And I plan to use my girlfriend's laptop. She has her own Ipod therefore already has Itunes installed.
Now my question is:
Will I be able to get songs from her Itunes Library(that I've copied from my collection of CDs), AND new photos from her laptop and STILL retain the old songs and photos I already have on my Ipod.

heres a more simple answer...YES you can add more songs from your GF laptop or from any PC/laptop for that matter
Just remember to have oyur IPOD to MANUALLY MANAGE SONGS
if its in automatic mode, your ipod will be the mirror image of the pc you are syncing in...so if you sync with another pc in automatic, that pc's itunes library will be in your ipod and the old songs will be erased. so be in manual so you could sync from multiple computers.
As far as pics are concerned, it a totally different matter, you cannot do it manually, since you specify the folder where the pics are stored, it copies whatever is inside that folder and erases the old ones. so pictures in ipod needs to be in just 1 pc, if you transfer to another pc it erases the old ones and brings in the pics from the new pc

Where is the easy answer for getting all music, purchased or not, from the nano to my itunes library again?

I can't believe that Apple doesn't have a way for Nano owners to put their music on their Nano
back on their pc's in the itunes library after it is erased by their 14 year old son!! I have a music
collection on there, purchased and from CD's, and I want it back on my pc too to make playlists.
Have music on my Nano - want it also on my computer(itunes) again. Didn't know it was a one way street.
Is there a easy and free way?

How to get back to default user login from 'switch user' screen

Hi
I have a macbook air and mistakenly pressed 'switch user' from the login screen. Now I am stuck on a different login screen with now option to go back to the main / usual one?
Is there a keyboard shortcut or something to go back? The only option I have are to 'sleep' 'restart' or 'shutdown' and I don't want those because of unsaved work?!

Just have a look at the report RSUSR200. This report is part of the AIS (Audit Information System) and will report users who have not logged on for a specified period of time.
Also have a look at the report RSUSR000.
You can even find out more reports from SE38 searching for RSUS* & then click f4.
You can get the names of the tables & the flow if you go through these programs.

Standard SAP does not support char specific to plant & order type. You need to devlop some custom transaction. If you are looking more details, request you to share the business requiremnet, details etc.

Release Strategy in PO for direct materials not driven by MRP

We have a requirement to enable release strategy for purchase orders created for direct materials that are not driven from an MRP requirement for a single plant.
Request you to let me know how I can make this work.
I have an option to make it mandatory to have Preq for these PO's and can enable release strategy for Preq which are created other than MRP.
request to let me know if there are other options in PO's itself where I can find that the Purchase orders are created directly and put release strategy in it.

Hi Murali,
Standard SAP provides PO release strategy at header level only and not at item level.
So you can create a new PO document type and allow use of only this document type for manual PO creation.
Then set-up PO release strategy for newly created document type, where one of the primary characteristic will be Order Type (Purchasing).

We want to create UOM for Service Materials like Per Well Per Month, Lumpsum.
In SPRO-> General Settings-> Check Units of Measurement, do we need to create Dimension, ISO Codes before creating the UOM.
While creating the UOM, what should we maintain in Commercial, Technical, Mesa. Unit Text. columns for the UOMs like Per Well Per Month, Lumpsum.

I need to set a run-time paramater that will be used by the session beans in my
application. I looked thru the documentation, but I'm not finding an obvious
way to do this.
In weblogic-application.xml, there is an <application-parameter> element that
seems promising, but I can't find a weblogic method for getting the value of this
element from within an EJB.
Any ideas on the best way to do this?

There is no global <env-entry> that you can use currently, but you can make
an
<env-entry> in the EJB module's descriptors for each session bean that needs
the run-time parameter.
the <application-parameter> element you speak of is not a place that
arbitrary
values can be placed and obtained. That element is used to by the server
and there are a specific set of values that are recognized
as override options for the server to use for the application.

Our company's scenario is: Active ML, Price control: S ; We did cost estimate for all raw materials using t-code:ck40n, why have to do ck40n to raw materil since it doesn't have BOM, what if we ignore this step, what the impacts it will be?

In ML, it is good if price control is S for all materials as per SAP recommendation..
Once you have S, you need to have std cost in place for them... For raw materials, you can release cost from CK40N or maintain from MR21... The output is one and the same
If you do not do any of these, then your GR, GI and all material movements will happen at zero value
For FG/SFG which have BOM & Routings - Release cost from CK40N... For raw materials - You can choose between CK40N or Mr21

I don't recall seeing anything that said there would points for merely posting a response. If they do that they might as well trash the entire points system, because threads will be flooded with 'me to' responses from people trying to drive up their point count. A problem that we already see too much of, but would be much worse as people wouldn't even have to consider whether their "answers" are correct or even if they have any bearing at all on the question.
