Time remaining is increasing!

I'm trying to encode 45 minutes of HD footage using the HD DVD H.264 one hour setting.
When originally submitted, Batch Monitor quoted a time remaining of around 3 hours for the video. The batch is still processing, but the time remaining is slowly going UP instead of down. It now shows a time remaining of 9 hours 47 minutes - and it still rising!
Can anybody help?

The Apple H.264 encoder automatically calculates the optimal number of passes it needs to encode the movie as it goes along. This means that it doesn't necessarily know how many passes it will need when you first start the encoding process. That is why the time goes up.
If you want to speed up encoding, either set it to single pass (at the expense of visual quality) or optimize Compressor for your computer:

  • Problems Downloading TV Show - Time Remaining Increasing

I recently bought a 2.45 GB TV show episode off of the iTunes store. Unfortunately, it is taking an extremely long time to download. After downloading for several hours it has only accomplished about 100 KB, and it shows no signs of speeding up. Even worse, the time remaining keeps increasing, and is currently surpassing 2,000 hours. Once it reaches around 10,000 hours, it resets and begins increasing once again. Past TV episode downloads have gone smoothly and efficiently. Can anyone help diagnose this issue and possibly solve it?
    Thanks very much in advance!

Thanks for your response. The TV show and Movie's sizes seem to correspond with how large they are supposed to be (as stated on the iTunes store).
I have been able to download songs normally, but I havn't attempted any new TV shows/movies.

  • Why is a download update for 1 item increasing "time remaining" and is already over 2 hours?

I am not very adept at this stuff.

"Time remaining" is based on expecatations of internet speed.  This expectation gets "smarter" as there is more data.  So it seems that you must be on a very slow connection, or one that is much slower now than it was when the download started.

  • I just got an iPhone 5 32GB and i have backed up my old 3GS 32GB via itunes (20GB of data on there) and it is taking a very long time to restore to my iPhone5. Its taken more than 20 hours and says 12 hours remaining. The text "Time remaining" flickers.

I just got an iPhone 5 32GB and i have backed up my old 3GS 32GB via itunes (20GB of data on there) and it is taking a very long time to restore to my iPhone5. Its taken more than 20 hours and didnt complete.
The text "Time remaining ... hours" flickers.
I set it to start restoring from the 3GS backup yesterday at 1pm and the time remaining kept on increasing. I left it overnight and at 9am this morning the progress bar hadnt moved and it said 12 hours remaining.
I don't know why its taking so long. I unplugged it and it just set up as new phone. So i did a factory reset and tried again at 4pm and it is now 12am and it says 4 hours remaining and my computer occasionally flickers. (Its not a bad computer, 2 months old, i7, 6GB RAM, Heaps of HDD space). It also messes with google chrome and i cannot browse the web at all while it is trying to restore my iphone.
I have tried restarting my laptop and should i reinstall itunes? I simply dont see why it should take longer than 20 hours to copy over 20GB of data!
    Can anyone help me?
    Thank you

I'm having this EXACT same problem with my iPhone 4, and I have the same computer stats (I have a Samsung Series 7)

  • Why is the time remaining so wrong?

I've noticed over the past few years that the "Time Remaining" estimates from various applications in OS X are increasingly inaccurate - usually the estimate is too long!
This is true for apps from Itunes, to Disk Utility, to <on and on and on>. For example, I was just burning a DVD from a playlist in ITunes and when it started the "Finishing" part - it said "Might be up to an hour". It completed in 30 seconds.
Time estimates are just that - estimates - but do they have to be so wildly inaccurate as to be useless as a guide? I have a feeling nobody in the OS X world has looked at how they update the estimate in a long time, and they do not presently reflect the performance of either hardware or software.
Hey Apple!  Update the Time Remaining code! Please?
    David

Ignoring the boot progress bar (which I believe is an animation, at least it was in my old Tiger system), the progress bars are usually computed by specifying a range of values to produce a scaling factor and updated by supplying values within that range.  The amount of progress is determined by the supplied values within the range.
The segment of code responsible for supplying values is given control on some criteria within the algorithm doing whatever the progress is to measure.  There's potentially a lot of variables that can affect when this segment of code is called to update its progress.  With disk copies there's how fast the drives are, buffer sizes, what else is running that could interrupt the process, and who knows what else.  Certainly you should not expect the progress bar drawing to have a high priority in the grand scheme of things.  I'd rather the service be "obsessed" with its primary goal (whatever its service is to do) rather then keeping me constantly updated every millisecond taking valuable cycles from the primary task.

  • Recording Time Remaining: 30 seconds

I have 50 gigs free on my hard drive. I have the tempo set at 1 beat per minute. I dragged the max song length thingy out to 2000+ measures. I have about 2 hours of audio recorded on this track and now when I try to record more it says "recording time remaining: 30 seconds" and counts down from there. Why can't I record more audio?

    Hi there,
When you use a compression filter, your PC have to process every frame that you acquire.
Depending on your image size, image type (color or mono) and your CPU performance, you will increase time needed between each acquired frame.
Try different codec. But keep in mind that some only work on color images and some on mono images or both.
You will find a VI that list all the codec installed on your computer.
The frame rate you mentionned when you create an AVI is only an indication for the playback. It doesn't help.
    Hope this helps

A question. Do I plug the TC into the Comcast modeum Router or the iMac?
Both is good.. but at least one of your routers.. TC or express must be plugged into the router.. the imac can get internet connection by wireless.

  • I created an iCloud account and also had to get more space after I have done the purchase, I am unable to backup my phone! I have a stable wifi connection at home and all I see for hours and hours is "Backing Up .. Estimating time remaining"!!!!! Plz help

I created an iCloud account and also had to get more space so after I have made the purchase, I am unable to backup my phone! I have a stable wifi connection at home and all I see for hours and hours is "Backing Up .. Estimating time remaining"!!!!! Plz help I'm unable to make the backup as I need to transfer all my data on my new iPhone 5S

This may be caused by a corrupt existing backup that needs to be deleted, or by data on your device that is causing the backup to fail.  To troubleshoot these, try deleting your last iCloud backup (if you have one) by turning off iCloud Backup in Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup, then tap Manage Storage, tap your device under Backups, then tap Delete Backup.  Then go back and turn iCloud Backup back on and try backing up again.
If it still won't back up, you may have an app or something in your camera roll that is causing the backup to fail.  To locate which one, go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage, tap the name of your device under Backups, under Backup Options tap Show All Apps, then turn them all to Off (including camera roll) and try backing up again.  If the backup is successful, then the camera roll and/or one of your apps is causing the backup to fail and you'll have to located by process of elimination. Turn the camera roll On and try backing up again.  If it succeeds, turn some of your apps to On and try backing up again.  If it succeeds again, turn some more apps to On then try again; repeat this process until it fails.  Eventually you'll be able to locate the problem app and exclude it from your backup.
In the meantime you can back up your phone to your computer by connect it, opening iTunes and going to File>Devices>Back Up.  Also be sure to transfer your purchases (File>Devices>Transfer Purchases).  Then set up your new phone and when given the option, choose Restore from iTunes Backup and follow the prompts to restore this backup to your new phone.  This will be much faster than using iCloud anyway.

  • Installed Yosemite, now my MacBook Pro is running slow and the FileVault keeps saying estimating time remaining.

I installed Yosemite and since then the system has been running slow.  I chose to use FileVault and it says it's encrypting but keeps saying estimating time remaining.  I've tried repair permission and restarting my computer.  Saw some other threads with similar problem and ran diskutil cs list which showed 80% the first time and now says failed.  I also did an Entre Check and here are the results.

Please answer as many of the following questions as you can. You may already have answered some of them; in that case, there's no need to repeat the answers.
Restart the router and the broadband device, if they're separate. Any change?
Run Software Update and install all available updates for OS X or the computer's firmware. Any change?
Are you connected to Ethernet as well as Wi-Fi? If so, disconnect the Ethernet cable or adapter and test.
If possible, connect to the router with an Ethernet cable and turn off Wi-Fi. Any difference?
If you can connect to more than one network, are they all the same?
Are all network applications affected, or only some? If only some, which ones?
Is networking always the same, or is the problem intermittent?
Disconnect all other devices from the network. Any change?
If you're running a MacBook with the lid closed, open the lid. Any difference?
Start up in safe mode and test. Any difference?
Start up in Recovery mode. From the OS X Utilities screen, select Get Help Online. A clean copy of Safari will launch. No plugins, such as Flash, will be available. Any difference?
If possible, turn off Bluetooth and disconnect any USB 3 devices. Any difference?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
First check that your device is correctly connected to the wifi/internet (settings > wifi)
If your back up continually fails, you might try turning off back up on your mobile device (settings > iCloud > storage & backup) and then deleting the backup file from iCloud by swiping the backup file on the mobile device (settings > iCloud > storage & backup > manage…) and then turning back up on again.
If this doesn't help, try turning off some items for back up in a pattern to try to establish if your problem is being caused by specific data on your device.
Being able to back up to the cloud can be very useful, especially if you don't have access to a computer or have infrequent access to one, however unless you specifically need to use iCloud for back up, you will find backing up to iTunes significantly more convenient and possibly more reliable.

I am trying to do a full Time Machine Backup to a new external disk. The backup starts, and it says "Time remaining about 4 days." That seems like a very long time, but the real problem is that the computer "logs off" after a few hours, and the backup stops. The system preferences are set to "Never" for Computer sleep and Display sleep. The computer does not ordinarily log off automatically, but it has done this twice since I started the Time Machine backup.

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the word "Starting" (without the quotes) in the String Matching text field. You should now see log messages with the words "Starting * backup," where * represents any of the words "automatic," "manual," or "standard." Note the timestamp of the last such message. Clear the text field and scroll back in the log to that time. Select the messages timestamped from then until the end of the backup, or the end of the log if that's not clear. Copy them (command-C) to the Clipboard. Paste (command-V) into a reply to this message.
If all you see are messages that contain the word "Starting," you didn't clear the search box.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don't post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Some personal information, such as the names of your files, may be included — anonymize before posting.

I converted my mail boxes from POP to imap for the purpose of syncing all my devices. I backed up my mail boxes and further more perfomed a timemachine backup.
Upon restoring ther mailboxes, either by manually copying them to the mailboxes folder, and restoring a timemachine backup, both pocesses result in the above problem.
    Please recomend a solution.

  • My Iphone 4 says "backed up - never". I am trying to back up to Icloud...it says iPhone plugged in, locked and connected to Wi-Fi.  It shows "Backing Up" ...slow.  Estimated time remaining.... (It shows no time).  How will I know when it is complete?

My iPhone 4 says "backed up-never".  I am trying to back up to Icloud..it says it will automatically backup when is plugged in, locked, and connected to Wi-Fi.  Does this mean I have to lock my phone?  It shows "backing up" & "estimating time remaining".....but it looks like it will never finish.  Can somebody please help me?  I do not have enough memory to update my phone, I do not want to lose all of my pics & videos....is there some way to save them ie., memory card?
I am truly ignorant with respect to this, but I was trying to video my grandson & it told my I was out of storage

You should import your photos and videos to your computer following the steps outlined in this guide: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.  After doing so you will be given the option to delete them from your phone to give you more space.  If you don't want to delete them all in this way, after importing them to your computer you can open your camera roll in the thumbnail view, tap Edit, tap all the photos and videos you want to delete from your phone, then tap Delete.
If you have never backed up your phone, and are having trouble backing up to iCloud, you should perform a manual backup on your computer.  To do this, connect your phone to your computer, open iTunes, right-click on the name of your phone on the left side and choose Back Up.  (If you have iTunes 11, first go to View>Show Sidebar.)
To back up to iCloud you need to be sure your phone is connected to wifi and your charger, then just press the power button to lock the screen (i.e., put it in "sleep" mode).  It should then back up automatically if you have turned on iCloud Backup in Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup (at the bottom).

  • Media encoder time remaining stops decreasing and processor drops to zero. Time elapsed keeps going up! File won't complete!

    Please help anyone who can.
Firstly I know I have very little RAM on my system, only 4GB but I've been rendering the same kinds of files for weeks with no problems until the last few days.
They biggest issues is as follows:
My timeline in Premiere Pro CC 2014 has 1080p 50mbps MXF footage from a Sony PMW 200 and some similar footage replaced with an After Effects comp for green screen keying.
The clip, approx 2min, starts with a linked comp from after effects, then cuts to the mxf footage and back to a linked comp at the end.
I am exporting via media encoder to h264 1080p. The file rendered fine for about 40min with the processor at 50% approx. The processor then shot up to 99% for 10 mins and the render progress bar
went up to almost 90% complete.
Then the progress bar stopped, the processor dropped to 0%, time remaining is steadily climbing and so is time elapsed. I've tried pausing and un pausing the render que and nothing else is running in background.
I need these files rendered tonight!! I've tried this a few times and this problem keeps occurring sometimes with the remaining time shooting up to 74 hours!!
Can anybody tell me what I'm doing wrong?!
    Windows 7 Professional (64 bit)
    Dell Precision workstation 690
    Intel xeon X5365 3ghz (x2)
    4 GB RAM

Sounds exactly like what is happening to me.  This is frustrating because it was a 30 hour encoding process and the place where it is stuck is right at the very end of the sequence on the 2nd pass, although there is still about 12% of the progress bar remaining.  I guess that this is where it takes all its work and puts the separate files into the single video file. I really don't want to go through this again. The final video file is showing up though and is shown having the size that I am expecting it to be.
Any workarounds to somehow get this unstuck?  I am hesitant to just try and open the file. I am going to try a couple of things and if I am successful at getting this to finish without restarting then I will be sure to post it here.
Also, I don't know if this has anything to do with this problem, but I looked at my system Activity Monitor, and there is a CPU process highlighted in red, it states:
         Adobe QT32 Server (not responding)
    Thirty minutes later...
I was incorrect above as to the actual problem.  I paused the queue encoding that was stuck, then opened up the project again in Premiere Pro only to discover that there was an offline still image which I stupidly had renamed during the day. So I renamed the file back to its original name, reconnected the picture, saved the PP project. Then I started the encoding back up and still no luck.
So I paused the encoding again, went back into the PP project and rendered just the area under question, saved it, and exported it into the queue. Then just to be safe I went to the paused item in AME, and duplicated it adding another version into the queue.
Then I unpaused the encoding and ... SUCCESS!!  Not sure which of the final steps did the trick, but I am guessing that it was the rendering of the part of the sequence that it was stuck on.  Hope this helps someone.
