Time saving feature, repeating common blocks of text
I might be missing something obvious because I don't know the right terminology to search help for, but...
Is there a way to save blocks of text that you often use, and then bring them up in a new document with a few keystrokes? For example, in every letter I write I type out my full address. Wordperfect used to have user-defined keyboard shortcuts. Windows 2.0 used to have a macro recorder that would let you save repetitive actions and then replay them. Is there anything like this in Pages or osX generally?

This may be an option.
Open Pages preferences>Auto-Correction. Then click on the plus sign at the lower left and add this...
Your initials, mine are ajw, tab to the window to the right and type in your Name that you want.
Start another one, "adr" then Tab, your street address.
Again and I use "csz"(city, state,zip) Tab and enter your city, state, zip.
Hit return and you are done.
Now try typing those short abbreviations in a document, one at a time and on different lines.
I hope this has helped you or anyone else out there.

In version 3.x.x I used to be able to type search terms into the address bar and the page would load, similar to Google's "Feeling Lucky" button. Now it just brings up a Google search for the terms I typed in. How can I get this time saving feature back?
The change between Firefox 3.6.* and Firefox 4 is how location bar search works. In Firefox 3.6 it uses Google "Browse by name" search. With the browse by name search, it performs a Google search and if there is a clear match it will take you to the site, otherwise it shows the Google search result. With Firefox 4 it just performs a Google search if you type something which is not recognised as a URL.
To get the Firefox 3.6 behaviour on Firefox 4 you need to change a hidden preference.

For the first time I hate Firefox! Important time-saving feature removed (4.0)
For the first time I hate Firefox (4.0).
They removed the feature for the user to jump back multiple pages at once. I use this MANY MANY times a day and now I have to go back one page at a time until I get back to where I want to go. IF I have to go back (say) 10 pages or so it takes forever and I have to wait for the page to show to see if that is the one I wanted or have to go back further. This is a HUGE waste of time.
IF Firefox does not restore this feature soon I will have no choice but to find another browser that has this feature. I cannot and will not waste my time with a browser that doesn't have this important feature.
Also, 4.0 is regularly crashing (much more than before).It is still there. You can get the drop down list by either right-clicking on the back/forward buttons, or holding down the left button until the list appears.

does anyone know how to view text in Appleworks, to be able to click on the font button and then be able to scroll thru all the font so that one can see it change as you scroll down the list, at present I have to do it one font style at a time and then repeat? Thanks jl

Is there ANY way to access the copy/paste history in iphone4 without an app? I have the latest verdsion of ios, and I'm using an iPhone 4... The issue arose when I copied a large, VERY large block of text, and then another before I pasted the huge one that took forever to hammer out and was unsaved by any other method, and now I really need it all back!!! Please help! Is there no "clipboard" or similar tool that remembers copied text history for a while, or am I SOL on this one? I can tell you this, as important as the lost words are to me, I don't think I could summon the energy or creativity to repeat it, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, and possibly rewarded with cupcakes and affectionate (albeit digital) hugs. Doesn't matter. There's no standard way for D&D on Linux, no single API.
Every application has its own mechanism which may or may not be compatible with any other.
Gnome and KDE groups are doing some work to provide a common standard but as you know the Linux zealots are completely opposed to anyone telling them what to do (such as creating standards) and won't in general follow them. -
Update 4.1.2 deleting large blocks of text following backspace correction
OK, this is a difficult for me to explain, but here goes nothing. I have been having an issue since the update. When typing a message, when I backspace to correct a wrong word/spelling, and then select the correct word from the predictive text bar, most of my message gets erased and replaced with the one word I selected. Even weirder, the word gets inserted in between the few characters of remaining text. The first couple times it happened, I thought I had accidentally selected the block of text with my cursor, but that was not the case. The text is not selected, but acts as though it is and gets overwritten/deleted. This is happening in Messaging and Gmail (and I am assuming all other typing applications).
Is anyone else having this issue? It is making me wan to throw my phone out the window! Please let me know if you know a fix for this.Mine is doing the same thing! I got the update last night and it is deleting practically my entire message when I backspace. Also, the puncuation options do not pop up anymore like they used to at the top of the keyboard unless you hit space and then backspace.
I'm right there with you...I want to throw this thing out the window. I've seen some cool things this update did, but things I hardly ever would use. The fact it messed with my texting (something I do a lot) has really ****** me off. -
Move a block of text from one document to another
How to make a script moving a block of text from a defined area to next document?

Maybe you would have to create the folder Pages and even the folder Applications by yourself.

creates a new Pages document with the chunks of texts which where delimited by the markers.

Speaking selected blocks of text in preview
Hello everyone.
Hi, I am a fan of Speech functionality and use 'Start Speaking' in Preview for reading blocks of text back to myself. Whatever text was selected is what would be read. Now suddenly, every time I try to do this, it starts reading from the start of the document, regardless of what is selected. I discovered that selecting View > PDF Display > Single Page instead of Single Page Continuous makes it at least start reading from the beginning of the page I am on, but this is still annoying in most cases. The behaviour works as before in web browsers, but not Preview.
Any idea why this is? Did I change something? Why would the behaviour suddenly change?

Time saved as "00:00:00" for DATETIME item using OADateValidater

In OAF Page for MessageTextInput item DataType Property set as “DATETIME”. Then it is showing as “DD-Mon-YYY HH:mm:ss” Here requirement is, does not show seconds in that DATETIME item. Written below code

Here thing is that from convertParameterToViewAttribute() method of OAWebBeanDataAttributeHelper class, calling "stringToDateTime()" method of OANLSServices class. In “stringToDateTime()” method converting given text into format like “new OADateValidater(getUserJavaDateFormat()+" HH:mm:ss", getUserJavaDateFormat());”
So, if I pass parameter text like "2010-Aug-10 10:10" it is parsing as "2010-Aug-10 00:00:00" and returning. Which is NOT correct. This is the reason, for given date and time saved in Data Base as “2010-Aug-10 00:00:00”.
How to handle this to get it save time into Database ?

Syncing a Block of Text Between Two Documents
I use Word 2011 on my Mac and I have two rather long MS Word documents (call them A and B) that are completely different from one another except for one block of text (call it C) which is the same in both documents. If Pages is capable of doing what I am describing below I will transition to that platform.
The contents of C need to change frequently and I am looking for a way to ensure that if I make a change to C in A it automatically makes that change in B and vice-versa. I would need changes to any other type of content associated with C, such as footnotes, to remain consistent between A and B as well. I've tried googling around but don't even know what a feature like this would be called.

Add style to large block of text without affecting existing styles within that text
Hello! First post here.
I have a long document of text that mostly does not have text styles attached (this was a mistake). However, there is a large number of areas of styled text within.
Is there a way to select all the text and apply a style to only the unstyled text without affecting the existing styles?
Doing this by hand text block by text block would take a long long time.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

At times when I'm on the net with my MBP
and I two-finger scroll through
message boards, large blocks of text get

Is it a fault of the video card or the intel version of safari?Yes, it happens to me too. I posted a thread about this and didn't get many responders. It isn't just Safari--I had issues with the included Comic Life application leaving artifacts on the screen as well. It is most likely an issue with the driver for the video card, and is fixable via a software rev whenever Apple gets around to it. There isn't much you can do in the mean time.

Printer power saving features activates and deactivates at random
I have a C8022A all in one 8500 printer which has a built in Power saving feature that is supposed to put the print6er in sleep mode after sevaral minutes of non use and turn on printer when a new print job is sent to it.Duringg the first 4-5 months of use it did that - now it seems sometime to go into sleep mode 4 hours after it stopped being used and coming on at random 2-4 hours later for no apparent reason - talked to 2 techs in India with HP chat support but it was useless, and could not get through to live 800 support - tried 5-6 times.!

Open Energy Saver preferences. While there, unplug the power connector from the MBP? Does the display dim a little bit? If not, toggle the Optimization to one of the other settings then back to Normal like you want. Did the display dim? Now plug the power back in. Did it work as expected?
As for the keyboard, if you want it to remain off in low light conditions, uncheck the Illuminuate keyboard in low light conditions option. You could look at the keyboard brightness keys as setting a max brightness. The keyboard brightness will still fluctuate based on the light level in the room but will only get as bright as the setting you put in.

Is there a method to remove all links from a block of text?
It's mostly plain text with many links throughout. I want to simply
remove all the links without doing one at a time.

bit of text and then make one huge link, and then delete the a tag
as there would only be one a tag then.
