Time Series Objects for a Planning Area

Hi all,
Can anyone let me know why do we create Time Series Objects for a Planning Area.
What is its Role & significance..
Regards,.
Vishal.S.Pandya

time series is usually a Demand planning concept(and used in SNP as well but in SNP its predominantly the order series that plays a main role)
time series is a general concept in statistics(and forecasting) wherein the value of a key figure is represented in a time bucket
Time series gives you an idea of the gradual change in the values by time and the relation of the future based on the past
planning area in APO (and other tools) tries to represent this as a 2 dimensional model with time on the columns and key figures in the rows. the value that you load into the cells that are formed by the above are based on the characterisitic values you choose from your MPOS which is linked to the way the values are stored in the planning  area
The planning area stores data for each key figure in the smallest unit of time(technical storage buckets) and the lowest level of characterisitc value combination

  • Problem in creating time series objects for a planning area

    Hi Friends,
    I am working on SCM 4.0 APO. I am trying to create the time  series objects for a  'Z'planning area which i have created. This Planning area is linked to a planning object structure which contains only three characteristics 9amatnr,9alocno & zplnpart. But the creation of time series objects is taking a long time. the screen just remains the same.
    Can anybody encountered such a problem any time?
    request you all to put some light as what could be wrong or causing the delay in creating them???
    All helpfull answers will be suitably rewarded.
    Thanks
    mvd

    Hi mv d,
    I have a couple of questions:
    1) how many Key Figures does your planning area have?
    2) what is the length of your time series horizon?
    3) how many characteristic combinations are currently in the Planning Object Structure? and how many newly character
    I am asking because these aspects might affect the running time of the time series creation. Have you also tried creating the time series in the background? How long did it take there?

  • How to restore data of time series objects

    Dear All,
    I was checking functionality of report for Anchors
    /SAPAPO/DM_LC_ANCHORS_DELMANDT
    This deactivated all the planning areas by deleting time series objects. Hence the data lose.
    Could i get back the data?
    Regards,
    Vijay

    You can if you have a backup copy of time-series in an Infocube, then use the transaction /sapapo/tscube to copy back from the infocube into your planning area.
    Otherwise I am afraid you are stuck somewhat.
    Having looked at the coding, it seems that this report deletes ALL planning versions for the current client hence the reason why it deleted time series objects. You will need to Create another Planning version (via transaction /sapapo/mvm) then "Create Time Series Objects" for your Planning Area against this new planning version (via transaction /sapapo/msdp_admin). As I said, however, any time series objects will have been lost if you have no backup, this will only reinitialise the planning area.

  • Semiweekly Time Series Creation for DP

    Hi,
    I want to create a semiweekly (twice a week) time series for DP.
    And this would be spread for 2 years (i.e. 1 year for the past and 1 year for the future).
    So a total of 208 entries need to be made for this time series.
    My understanding of the method is
    1)     Create a fiscal Year Variant.
    2)     Create a Storage Bucket profile based on fiscal Year Variant.
    3)     Create a Time Series Object based on Storage Bucket profile.
    4)     In the new Planning Area, provide the Time Series Object.
    Correct me if my understanding is wrong.
    Also can you provide the T-Code or Menu Path for the first three activities?
    Regards,
    Vikas

    The Menu Path for
    (1) Fiscal Year Variants
    SPRO>APO> Supply CHain PLanning> Demand Planning> Basic Settings>Maintain Fiscal Year Variants
    (2) Storage Bucket Profiles
    SPRO>APO> Supply CHain PLanning> Demand Planning> Basic Settings>Define STorage Bucket Profiles
    (3) I guess when you mean time series, you meant planning bucket profile
    SPRO>APO> Supply CHain PLanning> Demand Planning> Basic Settings>Define Planning Bucket Profiles
    (4) Define PLanning Area- /n/sapapo/msdp_admin
    You define a storage bucket profile
    (5) Define PLanning Book
    You define the planning bucket profile

  • Time series objects and order objects on what condtion we need to use

    Dear Experts ,
    I have question regarding Time series objects and order objects
    from my understanding
    TIme series objects the data is stored in time buckets without
    reference to orders.
    Order objects the data is stored as orders. Key figure data is
    then saved as orders if semantic 000 is entered in the detail view of the key
    figures in the planning area.
    my question is when to use the option 1 and when should not use
    same for option 2
    Many thanks
    Regards
    Raj

    Hi,
    This depends on the requirement you have also the application you are using.Like DP key figures are generally time series since in DP you do not need order numbers for example for history sales the requirement is the quantity period wise but not the order numbers.
    Again in SNP the distribution and planned quantities are required order wisecoz you need the order numbers you execute the same in ECC system or for Pegging purposes.
    Now the safety stock requirement can not be at order series since this is with relevent to some periods.
    So overall i can say this depends on the requirement of the kay figure.
    Hope this can help.

    kaushik

  • Data source for a planning area

    Hi Experts,
    I have created a data source 9AZDP_APAP for my planning area ZDP_APAP. When I'm creating this data source, SAP itself prefixing my datasource name with '9A'.
    I'm wondering is this ( Starting the data sorce name with '9A') with in our system only or with every system.
    If it is with every system then is there anyway I can override this.
    The reason why I'm asking this question is my data source is giving error " M version is different from A version' in RSA1, when I'm trying to activate my datsource I'm getting authorization error. When I contacted my security people on this they are telling I'm not following the naming standards. They are telling that the data source name should start with Z.
    All the inputs on this will be highly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Brahma Reddy

    Hi,
    Generating a data source on a planning area in APO is really very helpful function we have. this will help us to save a lot lot time to generate cube/rules/source.
    Definately, when system generates the data source it will follow its own logic "9A" which we can not change.
    I guess you  create a DataSource  manually if required, where you can follow your own logic, but that is not really consistent as system generates. becuase when it generates, it will check for time char and all based on storage bucket profile and generates.
    Hope my information will help you in understanding the importance of auto generation of data source

  • Generating data source for a planning area

    Hi all,
    I have a problem when generating a datasource for a planning area as it gives the following logs.
    Activate table /1APO/EXT_STRUXXXXX
    Tabble 1APO/EXT_STRUXXXXX  was activated with warnings
    and the data source is not being activated.
    I have also created an entry in the table /SAPAPO/TSAREAEX and tried to activate the datasource for the planning area ,it is saying the datasource already exists.
    Can anyone give me a straight solution for this.
    thnks in advance.

    Hi Satish,
    After you generate the datasource, go to transaction /n/sapapo/sdp_extr and try doing a check on this datasource. If you still get those warning/error messages, try the Repair datasource option and see if it fixes the issue. In RSA1, replicate this datasource and then try activating it there and see if it works. Don't create an entry in the table /SAPAPO/TSAREAEX, as this is not a standard recommended way of doing it. Good luck
    Regards,
    Mohammed.

  • Is there any command/query/etc, which would allow to understand what database objects (for example tables) are consuming memory and how much of it?

    TimesTen Release 11.2.1.9.6 (64 bit Linux/x86_64)
    Command> dssize;
    PERM_ALLOCATED_SIZE:      51200000
      PERM_IN_USE_SIZE: 45996153
    PERM_IN_USE_HIGH_WATER:   50033464
    TEMP_ALLOCATED_SIZE:      2457600
    TEMP_IN_USE_SIZE:         19680
    TEMP_IN_USE_HIGH_WATER:   26760
    Is there any command/query/etc, which would allow to understand what database objects (for example tables) are consuming memory and how much of it?
    tried to use ttsize function, but it gives some senseless results – for example, for the biggest table, tokens, it produces following output (that this table is 90GB in size – what physically cannot be true):
    Command> call ttsize('tokens',null,null);
    < 90885669274.0000 >
    1 row found.

    Are you able to use the command line version of ttSize instead? This splits out how much space is being used by indexes (in the Temp section of the TT memory segment), which I think is being combined into one, whole figure in the procedure version of ttSize you're using. For example:
    ttSize -tbl ia my_ttdb
    Rows = 4
    Total in-line row bytes = 17524
    Total = 17524
    Command> create index i1 on ia(a);
    ttSize -tbl ia my_ttdb;
    Rows = 4
    Total in-line row bytes = 17524
    Indexes:
    Range index JSPALMER.I1 adds 5618 bytes
      Total index bytes = 5618
    Total = 23142
    Command> call ttsize ('ia',,);
    < 23142.0000000000 >
    1 row found.
    In 11.2.2 we added the procedure ttComputeTabSizes which populates system tables with detailed table size data, and was designed to be an alternative to ttSize. Unfortunately it still doesn't calculate index usage though, and it isn't in 11.2.1.

  • Taking long time to load from the planning area to the cube since cvc big?

    Hi all,
    We have a huge number of cvc for various countries, while we are planning to load the data from the planning area to the cube using those cvc it consuming 40 hours.
    I happneed to check the cvc are more than 15,000 that is one reason. But i still need to improve the time taken to load the data from the planning area to the cube using the process chain.
    I happened to split the process chain to load data respectively to the sales organisation but still the same!!
    Can anyone help me nor recommend the sap process to improve the data loading from planning to cube in apo demand planning?
    Thanks
    Pooja

    Hi Pooja,
    15K is not huge at all. We have worked with 50k and still managed do the extract into cube in about an hours time.
    Pls help me understand a few things, so that we can help you better.
    1) Number of KF?
    2) Number of Periods?
    3) Key Figure Storage types - Is there any KF stored in Infocube rather than Time Series, this can be found in the Key Figure details in the Planning Area.
    4) Pls explain your data flow like PA--> Datasource --> Communication Structure --> UPdate rules --> Cube???
    5) Are you using Parallel extraction in your Datasource? This can be checked in Data Extraction tools from your Planning Area Screen.
    Few general tips.
    1) Parallelize your datasource.
    2) Load into PSA and Infocube parallely.
    3) Do not include KF stored in Infocube for your backup, use only KF stored in LC.
    Thanks

  • How to use time series functions for this requirement

    we are on OBIEE 11g (11.1.1.5)
    Any pointers and links are really helpful.
    I have a requirement where YTD sales are displayed in a column. We wan to compare that number to what that number was last year at the same time. Tried to use TODATE, AGO and it did not work.
    || used for column seperation below.
    ProductGroup || YTD Sales Rev||YTD Sales Rev 1 Year Ago||YTD Sales Rev 2 Years Ago
    Climate Solutions || 1.7 mil (1/1/2011 - 7/1/2011) || 1.45 mil (1/1/2010 - 7/1/2010) || 1.15 mil (1/1/2009 - 7/1/2009)
    Thanks in advance

    Kris,
    Basically you want to combine the 2 time series functions here i.e. TODATE & AGO.
    Here you go..
    You can create first a YTD logical column in BMM say YTD Sales Rev..Then create another logical column with calculation as AGO(YTD Sales Rev, YEARDIM, 1) or AGO(YTD Sales Rev, MONTHDIM, 12).
    Similarly, you create other measures...OBIEE 11g has time series function in Answers as well but I'd say try to create using RPD as you to calculate 1 logical column based on another. Better to push it on RPD side.
    Hope this helps

  • Can Essbase Dynamic Time Series object be exposed to BI Server repository?

    Hi everyone
    I imported my Essbase cube metadata into the BI Server repository. I'm using Essbase 11.1.2.1 and OBIEE 11.1.1.5.
    Everything is working fine, I'm just missing one piece. In Essbase I have a dimension tagged as time and the Dynamic Time Series has been enabled for YTD, QTD and MTD. After the metadata import, I can't see any of this in the repository's physical layer. So I am assuming that if the member doesn't physically exist in the outline, then it won't be created in the repository physical layer. Is that right? Is Dynamic Time Series integration not possible?
    If so, is using TODATE in the repository the only option or are there any other possibilities?
    Thanks
