Time Services in 6.0?

Hi -
Can someone from BEA comment on the deprecation of the WL Time Service
in 6.0? Are there any suggested replacements for this service?
Thanks -
Peter

Dimitri -
My mistake. They were noted as deprecated in the Beta 2 release. I
hadn't realized that this had changed for GA. (Thanks to Robert Patrick
as well for this info).
Thanks -

    When i check the search status

    As of now search service application is online and search is working.But not sure why it throws the above error.

    Please try below mentioned steps:
    1. Central Administration > Monitoring > Review job definitions > Look for following timer job "Application Server Administration Service Timer Job" > Disable
    2. Then open windows administrative services (services.msc), stop SharePoint Timer Service
    3. Clear SharePoint Timer configuration cache by following steps mentioned in below blog:
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/jamesway/archive/2011/05/23/sharepoint-2010-clearing-the-configuration-cache.aspx
    4. Start SharePoint Timer Service and give it a few seconds so that the new XML files from the location you deleted then are re-populated.
    5.Central Administration > Monitoring > Review job definitions > Look for following timer job "Application Server Administration Service" Timer Job > Enable
    Please ensure that you mark a question as Answered once you receive a satisfactory response.

  • One Time Service

    Dear Friends,
    Just like there is a one time customer and vendor account group for vendor and customer who we deal with only once a while.
    Is there something like one time service in MM.?
    We have few services defined in AC01 and attached a valuation class to each service. What if we need to pay for some service (one time), there shouldn't be a need to create a service master.
    When we create the PO for such one time service not defineed in AC01, it saves the PO, but does not allow us to perform the Service entry sheet.
    Error it throws is: Account determination for entry CAAI KBS 0001 not possible. (CAAI - is our Chart of Accts), what is it that is related with key KBS in GBB of OBYC?
    Thanks

  • EJB Timer Service

    I've been trying to get the javax.ejb.TimerService working. As stated in the J2EE 1.4 tutorial, it is possible to use the TimerService in an entity bean. In fact, it states that if I wanted a timer for each instance of an entity bean, to create the timer in the entity bean's ejbCreate(). However, I keep getting an IllegalStateException when attempting to do so. I have implemented TimedObject in the entity bean, so I'm a little confused. Here's my ejbCreate:
    public String ejbCreate(String clientID, long timeout) throws CreateException {
    setClientID(clientID);
    TimerService timerService = context.getTimerService();
    //dies on next line
    Timer timer = timerService.createTimer(getTimeout(), "state 1");
    return clientID;
    Any help is appreciated....
    Thanks
    Raj

    getTimerService is allowed in ejbCreate but Timer Service Methods are not . You can use Timer Service methods in ejbPostCreate(), though.

  • Deprecation of time services

    Hi all,
    in WebLogic 6.1 time services are deprecated
    (http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/docs61/notes/issues.html#1031137). Own
    threads are not allowed by the specification. How can I correctly
    schedule items in WebLogic 6.1? Ideas?
    Thanks,
    Daniel

    I don't know what BEA's opinion is on the use of the standard JMX
    timer service (javax.management.timer) in WLS 6.1, but these
    interfaces are very nice to use, and they appear to function
    well.
    Perhaps one of the BEA folks might want to comment on this approach.

  • 90% of the system resource is consumed when timer service is running

    Hi,
        I have an development environment with 8GB RAM with SharePoint 2013 and SQL Server 2014, The SharePoint runs slow when Timer Service is running. Turning of the Timer Service speed up the environment.
    Is it a know issue with SharePoint 2013? Is there any update/hotfix available pertaining to the issue.
    Thanks,
    Ajeet

    Hi  Ajeet,
    According to your description, my understanding is that the SharePoint Timer Service(OWSTIMER)   consumes 90% of the server resource in  your SharePoint 2013 single server.
    For your issue, could you run Microsoft Net Monitor to see the contents of the packets that were being sent / received by the owstimer.exe process?  Also please make sure your single server match the
    hardware requirement:

  • Problem in using EJB 2.1 Timer Service

    Hi all,
    I need a method in my EJB to be called by the EJB container at regular intervals. For this I plan to use the EJB 2.1 Timer Service.
    I did the following for implementing the Timer Service.
    1. My bean class implements the TimedObject interface. Thus the method ejbTimeout(Timer t) will be called by the container according to the interval I define in the timer.
    2. For defining a timer, I have created a business method in the EJB which creates a Timer object with the timer service.
    public void registerTimer(){
         // getting the timerService from the EJBContext
         timerService = myContext.getTimerService();
         // create a timer which times out after 5 seconds, and subsequently after every 10 seconds
         t = timerService.createTimer(5000,10000,"my timer");
    Q: Is this enough or do we have to configure the engine in some way, so that it calls the ejbTimeout() method ? Maybe I am missing out something.
    If the above tasks are enough then according to my understanding,  the timer is created and then the ejbTimeout(Timer arg0) should be called first after 5 seconds and then after every 10 seconds.
    I have created a servlet which acts as a client to this EJB, by which I can see that the Timer object is created, but the ejbTimeout() is never fired .
    What could be the reason behind this? Am I missing something? Do I need to configure the engine in some way?
    Any input on the above will be most valuable.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Gagan Parhar.

  • Time service load-balancing

    Hi,
    I have a question about load-balancing facilities for Time service. If I
    schedule a TimeScheduleDef object to run at certain intervals, does the
    run-time environment take care of load balancing it across multiple machines
    on a cluster?
    Thanks,
    Deepak

    WebLogic Time is not a clustered service -- it is configured per server and
    load balancing is performed.

  • Current best practice for Time service settings for Hyper-V 2012 R2 Host and guest OS's

    I am trying to find out what the current best practice is for Time service settings in a Hyper-V 2012 environment. I find conflicting information. Can anyone point me in the right direction. I have found some different sources (links below) but again the
    are not consistent. Thanks
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/virtual_pc_guy/archive/2010/11/19/time-synchronization-in-hyper-v.aspx
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/virtual_active_directory_domain_controller_virtualization_hyperv(v=ws.10).aspx
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/12709.time-services-for-a-domain-controller-on-hyper-v.aspx

    From the first link provided by Brian, it does state that the time service should be off, but then the update changes that statement.  Still best to rely on the first link in the OP - it was written by the guy that has been responsible for much of what
    gets coded into Hyper-V, starting from before there ever was a Hyper-V.  I'd say that's a pretty reliable source.
    Time service
    For virtual machines that are configured as domain controllers, it is recommended that you disable time synchronization between the host system and guest operating system acting as a domain controller. This enables your guest domain controller to synchronize
    time from the domain hierarchy.
    To disable the Hyper-V time synchronization provider, shut down the VM and clear the Time synchronization check box under Integration Services.
    Note
    This guidance has been recently updated to reflect the current recommendation to synchronize time for the guest domain controller from only the domain hierarchy, rather than the previous recommendation to partially disable time synchronization between the
    host system and guest domain controller.

  • Best practice using Using the WebLogic Timer Service

    Hi,
    We have a stateless session bean having a method which needs to be called lezs
    say every 10 Seconds. I think the WebLogic Timer Service (JMX) should exactly
    fit in this problem. So I would write a small class implementing the interface
    NotificationListener which will receive the notification. The listener I would
    register in my startup class.
    This brings up some questions:
    Could this class be a inner class of the SessionBean and directly calling the
    method on the bean ?
    Has it to be a more independent class gettting an initiali context, getting local
    home, etc. etc. and then executing the method on the received Stub ? If yes can
    it keep the Stub betwean the interval without releasing ?
    Has someone experiance in this area ?
    Regards
    Tomy

    Actually, it's bad practice to use break anywhere other than in conjunction with a switch statement.Presumably, if you favour:
    boolean test = true;
    while (test)
      test = foo && bar;
      if (test)
    }overfor (;;)
      if (! ( foo && bar) ) break;
    }then you also favour
    boolean test = foo && bar;
    if (test)
    }overif (foo && bar)
    }Or can you justify your statement with any example which doesn't cause more complexity, more variables in scope, and multiple assignments and tests?

  • Time services in Active Directory

    We have an old Ubuntu box running as an NTP server and as part updating our systems we are planning to decommission it.  However, this system has been set as the local machines NTP server via DHCP scope options and via group policy.  If I just
    switch it off then all the Windows clients or any DHCP client on the network will not know where to get the correct time from and could cause connectivity issues on the domain.
    I have tested a new GPO on an isolated machine to see what the effects are and not a lot changed, the client machine effected by this new GPO just reports DC01 as the NTPServer when I run w32tm /query /configuration and reports the source as being local
    CMOS clock when i run w32tm /query /status.  Is this normal?
    Running the same thing on my PDC shows the clock as being Free running system clock, should this be set to an online time service, or should it not matter (as long as the clients are only getting their time
    from the PDC?
    What I would like to know is is there a best practice guide somewhere I can read through?
    I have been trawling various searches but can't seem to find anything relevant.
    Drac

    We have an old Ubuntu box running as an NTP server and as part updating our systems we are planning to decommission
    it.  However, this system has been set as the local machines NTP server via DHCP scope options and via group policy.  If I just switch it off then all the Windows clients or any DHCP client on the network will not know where to get the correct time
    from and could cause connectivity issues on the domain.
    You can use GPOs to make your Windows Client computers use your AD forest topology for time sync. I have described that in this Wiki article:http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/18573.time-synchronization-in-active-directory-forests.aspx
    Once you are sure that all Windows client computers (and non-Windows computers if you have some) are using your AD forest topology for time sync, you can remove your Ubunto box.
    I have tested a new GPO on an isolated machine to see what the effects are and not a lot changed, the client
    machine effected by this new GPO just reports DC01 as the NTPServer when I run w32tm /query /configuration and reports the source as being local CMOS clock when i run w32tm /query /status.  Is this normal?
    Is the client you use running as a VM? If yes, you can consider disabling the time sync feature with the hypervisor.
    Otherwise, please consider running the following commands to re-create registry entries for time sync configuration:
    w32tm /unregister
    w32tm /register
    Currently the PDC does not sync with any online time server, just its own internal clock (this is a virtual Windows
    2012 server with the guest set not to sync time with host, if that makes any difference?).  So i need to set this to use an online time server and then "reset" the clients to use the PDC instead of the internal NTP server.  The other DC's in our
    domain all use the PDC as their time server along with all other infrastructure servers.
    You need to configure the PDC emulator of the root domain in your forest to sync its time with at least two reliable NTP external servers.
