Time signature Automation

Does anyone know if there is automation options for time signatures, say I wanted to go from 4/4 to 7/4 mid song, and not have the metronome be the death of me? I know '10 didn't have them

No, GB only allows for one time sig per song. But you can just ignore the bar lines. If the downbeat of the metronome bugs you, create your own clicktrack with a drum instrument, there you can even create your own downbeats according to your changing time sigs!

I'm working with a Mac, with 10.10.2 system.  My Audition program has been working fine for years now.  But, there is a problem I can't solve.  All my markers on a given piece of audio allows me to left click to highlight the time signature until my audio reaches the one hour point.  From there on, the left click will not give me the drop down menu in order to copy and then paste into an Excel sheet I then have to submit for the proofing purposes.  After the one hour mark, I can only control/c in order to highlight, then when I slide up to my Excel sheet, I'm able to right click and paste.  Why is the program not, all of a su allowing me to left cllick the mouse and have a drop down menu give me the option to "copy, " as it does for any time signature markers up to 1:00:00.000?

Which version of Audition? With the latest version of Audition running on a Windows 7 machine I can't get a dropdown menu at all when I left click on the time in Markers List. The only way to do it is with cntrl-c.

How do I insert a section with another time signature than the one im inser

Yeah I've been trying to figure this out as well, for example... my song might be 90 bpm and I want to program another track using midi but have it play at 180 bpm. The only way I've found to work around this is to write my 180 bpm part make a sample of this and then loop this into the 90 bpm song.

  • How do you change the time signature in Ultrabeat? I want to record something in 3/4. Thanks

    Hello,
I want to record a song in 3/4 using Ultrabeat. I can't figure out how to change the time signature in Ultrabeat. Any ideas?
    Thank you,
                        Evereman

    Hi
You need to take into account the Resolution (how big is each step) and the number of steps (the Length)
For example, with a resolution of 1/16, one bar of 3/4 would be 12 steps, 2 bars 24, etc
You can set these parameters at the bottom of the UB interface

  • Compound time signatures and the metronome in GB 09

    Hi,
    Two questions.
    1) Is there any way to set up a project in GB09 with a 6/8 time signature, where the metronome beat is a dotted quarter note (dotted crochet) equal to say 48 bpm?
    2) Can a backing track (not midi) loaded as a Real Instrument be somehow "synched" with the GB metronome?
    Thanks

    1) The metronome will always count the units of the time signature, in this case six eigth notes. If you want a different metronome, create your own click track using a drum set!
    2) Sure. There's several methods to do that, and everybody has his own. I understand that you want to set the project's tempo to that of the imported audio. The easiest way is to count the beats per minute (or in 30 seconds and multiply by two) and then fine tune the song's tempo until it syncs perfectly. (It might never sync perfectly since GB only supports integer number bpms.)

  • Trying to figure out time signature of a piece of music to recreate in GB

    Hello everyone,
I'm trying to figure out the time signature of a particular piece of music, as I do a lot of work with this particular piece of music and I am attempting to migrate over to GarageBand on a Mac from FL Studio 6 on a PC.
This piece is the theme music to the British science fiction series Doctor Who, created in 1963 by the BBC Radiophonic Workshop. This is a classic and timeless piece of music and I'm prone to doing quite a few recreations and remixes based on this theme.
Wikipedia is hosting a condensed version of the theme at the following URL:
    http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/5/5d/DoctorWho_themeexcerpt.ogg
I'm sorry about the strange slight pitch bending up and down... must be some kind of copyright thing. The real piece remains at a constant pitch. I would post mine but I'm sure that it's some kind of copyright violation.
From what I've read online, the original theme was done in a 4/4 time signature at 140 bpm. A good friend of mine insists that it's easier to do in a 4/3 time signature. In FL Studio back on the PC, I did everything in 4/4, but both 4/4 and 4/3 worked fine for me as far as easily laying out the bassline in simple "dum-de-dums" and "diddly-dums" but no matter what time signature and no matter how far I zoom in, I cannot get the correct note lengths for the bassline in GarageBand. I've tried 4/4, which is the most logical of the time signatures, but the notes never fit the correct "dum-de-dum" pattern timing-wise and I can't do a "diddly-dum" because it won't let me divide one section (bar? beat?) into three notes as is required for the "diddly" of the "diddly-dum." (I must sound like a madman referring to the bassline notes as "dum-de-dums" and "diddly-dums," but hey, it works for me.)
Anyway, if someone else could perhaps come in and tell me what I'm doing wrong or another way of configuring GarageBand so that I can put this bassline in properly, I would be most grateful to you!
    Thanks so much,
    Danny

    Danny,
The theme to Doctor Who is in 12/8. In music theory, there's no such thing as a 12th note, the notation and nomenclature is all based on things being divisible by four. So for the diddly-dum feel to happen, you have to give the beat to a quarter note plus another eighth note -- we call it a dotted quarter note, and now you have three eighth notes per beat so you can go diddly. So, since you can't call the time signature 12/dotted quarter, you call it 12/8 and go faster. Make sense? Anyway, for GB's purposes, all you need to know is that you'll get that feel by choosing 12/8.

  • 6/8 time signature - tempo calculation

    Hi,
I have a project in 6/8, the tempo is 54.
I want to write in my score the metronome indication: dotted quarter note=
Which is the calculation I have to do because I've tried 54/3 which gives dotted quarter note=18, but this is not correct.
    Thanks in advance.

Since when are all values interpreted, read, tapped, understood, and experienced as CROTCH values????
I think the underlying reason for this has to do with the way midi works. A standard midi file can contain a set-tempo meta-event, which is used to communicate tempo information. The set-tempo meta-event defines tempo in terms of microseconds per quarter note (see here or here). This means that quarter notes are the basis for defining tempo, at least as far as standard midi files are concerned. So I think Logic does it this way because midi does it this way, and Logic wants to be compatible, with regard to importing and exporting standard midi files.
Logic does provide a way to see the 'correct' tempo in the Score, as siderealxxx pointed out above. This is explained (albeit superficially) in the manual (pdf, pp. 886-7): "The tempo indicators in the Transport bar and the Tempo List always refer to quarter notes, even if a time signature with another denominator is used. As such, the displayed tempo differs, depending on the symbol being used."

  • How can I set time signature for my song?

I wanted to compose a song in Garageband in a time signature 3/4. I couldn't see any setting which lets me set it. Also I wanted to know what all time signatures do Garage Band support ?E.g. 2/3/, 4/4, 6/8,7/8 ...Would really appriciate if someone can help.

As far as I'm aware GarageBand for iPad only supports 4/4 time, at least in it's present form.

  • Anyway to set the time signature mid song?

I'm making a song in garageband and i need to change the time signature for one bar from 4/4 to 2/4 and then back again, is there anyway to do this?
    Your help is appreciated.

Sorry, GB only allows for one time sig per song. As long as you don't need the notation, you can probably live with it that your bars now are shifted two quarters - until you insert the next 2/4.

  • How do i switch to 7/8 time signature in garageband on ipad air

How do i switch to 7/8 time signature in garageband on iPad air ?  I can find only 4/4 ,  3/4 and 6/8 . What and if i want to change it to 7/8 any other time signature on Garageband using on iPad Air

    Tim,
Maybe before you give up on the Korg, you might want to give their own tech help a call. Perhaps it just doesn't do this, but maybe there's a control somewhere, someplace, hidden within that will?
Another thought - perhaps you might be able to use a 3rd party MIDI mapper to lower the notes by an octave. It's an easy piece of math to subtract an octave from the MIDI data leaving the keyboard before it hits GB.
Here's a software one I just googled. Don't know if it will work, there are likely others out there that may if this doesn't:

.. and a hardware mapper I also dredged up in the google:

  • Wierd Time Signature Changes Within Song - HELP!!

Hey all, I am recording a song with a combo of real vocals & instruments, some loops, and some parts played via soft synth. Many of the recorded parts were originally recorded in Ableton Live, but I slaved it to Logic and re-recorded the parts in Logic tracks so I can continue and finish the song in Logic. It's all been done to a click track at 127 bpm. Between bars 17-20, the time signature changes radically, and it shows in the display at the top above the tracks. I don't know how this happened, or how to change it. Everything gets condensed to a smaller signature, although I cannot think of a better way to explain it. I took a screen shot and would be happy to email it to anyone (I don't know how to embed images in these posts). I am in desperate need of help here as this little glitch throws off the click for the remainder of the song. Thanks in advance for your help!!

Just position the playhead to bar 17 and change the time signature in the transport window to how it should be (e.g. like the rest of the song). Do the same in the following bars if needed. This actually deletes the "wrong" time signatures and sets everything back to "normal".

  • Time signature changes

Hey everybody. I got a song I'm sending to a friend who is a drummer. He needs a click track. Problem is, the song has several different time signatures throughout. A 4/4 click track makes things pretty confusing running through a whole song that isn't all in 4/4. Does anyone have a work around for this, or an idea they can throw my way? Is there a way I can program a click track as a single track of it's own? And if so, can I program it at different time signatures at certain times? Apologies if that's confusing. Only way I could think of wording it. Thanks.
    Eric

Neither GarageBand on the iPad nor GarageBand on the Mac allow different time signatures in one song.
The best you can do in a project would be to set one Time Signature, and then ignore it in the sections of the song with a diferent signature.
To create a click track with different signatures, create a new project for each of the sections of the song with different signature, then share these as audio files to a computer and sync the audio back to the music app on your iPad.
Then create another project for the combined click track: import the audio sections as loops to one track (using the loop browser) and combine them to your click track.

  • Time Signature - A specifik question :-)

    Hi Forum
I work in FINALE As well as in LOGIC.
    1.
If I've written a long passage in finale changing timesignature every bar, how to export these into LOGIC?
    2. Im still not familiar with the three tools in Arrange>region>Cut/insert time and the differences between these three. What I often want is to move and insert ( in the middle of a sequenze ) a section with a lot of changing meters.
But I never succed in getting the right bars and timesignatures.
Logic always arsk to insert ekstra bars with strange meters in order to perform my move?
    Yours
    Bo Lundby-Jaeger

The only consistent way I have found is:
    1. In Finale save as ... MIDI file ... (Separate track for each instrument)
In the finder right click (control click) on the MIDI file
    Select open in... Logic Pro
The MIDI file will now open in Logic Pro with Tempi (If you have set them up) and all time signatures in place. (sometimes the opening tempo will be wrong, but all subsequent tempo changes should be OK. You will need to adjust the opening tempo in the Global tempo track.
I don't know a way to get time signatures from a Finale file into an existing Logic "song"

  • Help - Missing: Tempo Value Slider, Time Signature Slider

I'm assuming I'm missing something really basic here but I can't for the life of my find an answer.
How do I set which controls appear in the project controls area at the top of Soundtrack Pro?
I see Sample Rate but I do NOT see the Tempo Value Slider, the Time Signature Slide, the Key Pop-Up Menu. Where in the menus do I control what does and doesn't appear in that top bar under the project name?

One note of clarification. I do understand that I can find the tempo slider and time signature slider (or even the button to change the timeline from beats to seconds) under the project tab in the left-hand pane. But I seem to remember all of these controls being conveniently located at the top of the timeline. Is this just a change with the new version of Soundtrack? Is there no way for me to restore those controls to the top of timeline alongside the sample rate and read/latch/touch button as I believe used to be the case?

  • Can't change Time Signature before Bar 1

I have a song that I want to have a 2 bar count in of 7/8, then go into 13/16 starting on bar 1. Somehow the count-in time sig got changed to 18/8, and everytime I try clicking before bar 1, and re-setting it to 7/8, it just stays on 18/8. I can't figure out why it won't let me change it. I can change the time sig on bar 1 and every thing after it, but not the count-in. Is there somewhere special I'm supposed set that count-in time signature? Maybe there's something I've hit that locks the count-in time signature?

As a workaround you could just start your 7/8 count on bar 1, and change to 13/16 at bar 3. Then after you get it recorded you can move it back to bar 1. I've tried to do what you're trying on my settup and can confirm that it does not work.
