Time taken in hotbackup suddenly increased - any ideas/suggestions anybody

Hello everybody,
I am doing hotbackup of the database via a script which runs through a cron job (on HP-UX 11.11). The database version is 9.2.0.5.0. The hotbackup was taking time of 8 minutes till this Friday when it jumped to 26 minutes (from 8 minutes).
I changed the time of running the job to 2 different times of the day in the weekend to see if that makes any difference but no luck. I have no clue why the backup suddenly is taking more than 3 times, the time it was taking before.
Any clues/suggestions. Please let me know if you need more information to explain the problem.
Regards,
BB.

All,
Thanks for your responses.
No major additions of the data in the database.
No new datafile or tablespaces has been added as I am the only person who does that. The size of the database is 21.5 GB.
The backup is going to a disk in SAN, where it was going before Friday (when it was taking 8 minutes).
It is a FULL backup (hot). As I said before, no majot data LOAD/UNLOAD activity recently.
PLEASE NOTE :It may be something to do with UNIX, but when I copied all the backed up files to other location on the same server, it took only 7 minutes to do that, thus I am confused.
Thanks everybody again for their responses.
Regards,
BB.

    You can also try a direct download andinstall by:

    Follow Troubleshooting security software. Often, uninstalling third-party security software will resolve these errors.
    There may be third-party software that modifies your default packet size in Windows by inserting a TcpWindowSize entry into your registry. Your default packet size being set incorrectly can cause these errors. Contact the manufacturer of the software that installed the packet size modification for assistance or follow this article by Microsoft: How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).

    Discard the .ipsw file, open iTunes and attempt to download the update again. See the steps underAdvanced Steps > Rename, move, or delete the iOS software file (.ipsw) below for file locations.

    My mac air is re-starting several times during the day, anyone have any idea what I can do to fixed it?

    I was having this problem while still using Mavericks -- it started after a Mavericks update last spring.  During the initial Yosemite beta runs over the summer, it seemed to be fixed, but after the official launch in October, I had all sorts of problems keeping connected.  Its gotten a little better, but still happens to at least one of my devices every day.  Weird that we still cannot figure out why the connection keeps dropping on some devices, but not others, and then the next day, one of the devices that didn't disconnect the previous day will disconnect, but the ones that did disconnect, stay connected.  It's just sloppy, poorly written software for technology that isn't working the way it should.  If you turn off Continuity and Handoff on all your devices, you will probably see that everything stays connected.  With those turned off on all devices, TC stayed connected to everything for over a month.  The day I turned Continuity back on, all the problems started again.  It had something to do with the bluetooth version being used, the wifi routine, and Apple's AirPlay technology not quite getting along with each other.

  • I'm having issues with my Time Capsule Generation 3. The wifi range no longer extends past 30 or so feet and it happened very suddenly. Any ideas?

    My Time Capsule Gen 3 which I have had for around 5 years and had been working like a champ for that time suddenly won't extend the wifi range past 25 to 30 feet. It happened quite suddenly and is wreaking havoc in the house. Any ideas on what the problem could be and any thoughts on quick and affordable solutions?

    5 years is well and truly past the lifespan of modern domestic electronics that does 24/7 operation.
    SImply replace it.
    You can get a Gen5 AE second hand dirt cheap now.. around $50. and they have much better wireless than earlier gen TC.
    Otherwise just get another new TC.

  • I recently changed from a Mac Pro to an iMac. A large chunk of emails have disappeared. Time Machine is no help. Any ideas as to how I can get them back?

    I recently changed from a Mac Pro to an iMac. Despite using Migration Assistant, a large chunk of my recent emails and nearly all of my wife's emails have disappeared in transit. Strangely, emails from my distant past are still there. Time Machine is no help; the messages may be on my backup disc but they're behind an invisible  icon. Any ideas as to how I can get them back?

    Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
    Back up all data. That means you know you can restore the Mail database, no matter what happens.
    Triple-click the text on the line below to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Envelope Index
    Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
    from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens (command-V), then press return.
    A Finder window will open with a file selected. Move the selected file to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have names that begin with "Envelope Index". Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
    Log out and log back in. Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is corrupt and that Mail has to quit. Click OK.
    Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the file you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results.

  • Terminal generates so extra lines every time I use a pipe ? Any Ideas ?

    Anybody have any idea how to get rid of the extra lines ?
    I recently re-installed the OS on my machine, and switched over to bash. Ever since then every time I issue a command that contains a pipe, I am getting some extraneous lines before the result.

    You'd have to look into Activity Monitor utility, to see if any applications or processes are running or hogging system resources; not just RAM (as it may seem OK even if it isn't; esp in Mavericks) but in the areas of hard drive capacities. Could be you have some other issues not just a too-full hard disk drive, or not enough RAM installed.

    Another utility that could show you plenty of busywork things going on, is Console. The system logs in there can show a detailed list of tons of activity. Perhaps some of the often-repeated results may be worth considering; and go by the time (day, hour, minute) you notice the spinning wheel; look into the logs from then.
    Have you tried starting up in SafeBoot (shift key held on startup, then login screen appears, hold down shift key again when you login) and then run Disk Utility's repair disk permissions? When done, you could try & restart the computer normally.
    If you happen to get incorrect specification RAM (close but not correct) that could also play into a spinning wheel deal; however the problem may be something else that RAM did not cure. Yet bad or incorrect RAM only adds to a pre-existing issue, since it could not solve it. Same with a System Upgrade. To upgrade to Mavericks with problems already does not mean they would go away; often that makes the first condition harder to resolve.
    Good luck & happy computing!

    Hi, I have a swing application which contains two text areas, during some process I print information in the textareas but information only appears once the "do while" is finished. Also I call a pause() which only is supposed to pause between each line but as I said the text area is only filled once the loop is over thanks in advance for any good suggestions.

    do{
    outputContent("aaaaa");
    pause(3000);
    }while(action != null)

    .
    pause(long p){
    try {
    Thread.sleep(p);
    catch(InterruptedException e) {
    e.printStackTrace();

    outputContent(String p)
    txtainfo.append(pt);
    txtainfo.append("\n\r");
    txtanotify.append(p);
    txtanotify.append("\n\r");

    All the events in Swing are registered with an Event Queue.
    The queue dispatches events one by one. Components continues adding events in Queue and Queue continues dispatching events one by one. Repaint is one of that event. When a component think to repaint itself, it adds PaintEvent in Queue and Queue dispatches the event on it's required time.
    In your case on each append the PaintEvent is added in the Queue but the thread is slept so after all appends all the paint events are fired one by one.
    If you run your do-while loop into a thread then this thing will not happen as your new thread will sleep rather than main thread. So you can consider following:
    new Thread(){
    public void run(){
    do{
    // write content and pause
    } while();
    }.start();
    May this help you.

My music is managed manually and always has. I looked online for a solution and they all involve resyncing the library and unchecking voice memos. Is there a way to resolve this issue without having to resync my music or reinstall itunes?

    Have you done anything to the router recently like changed a setting?
    Have you tried:
    - Resetting the iPod. Nothing will be lost.
    Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
    least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Resetting network settings: Settings>GeneralReset>Reset Network SettingsTo me the error sounds like a network/router problem vice aan iPod problem.

  • TS1702 app loading: keep on getting "application cannot be downloaded at this time" despite strong wireless connectivity. anyone any ideas on what i can do? many thanks. mike.

    hello there
    despite strong wireless connectivity, no matter what i do, i get the message "cannot be downloaded at thisntime" for any app that i have been sent an update for. i now have 23 updates waiting to be downloaded, according to my appnstore! can anyone advise? thank you very much.

    Try the basics if you haven already done so.
    Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
    Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
    Sign out of your account, then sign in again. Settings>Store>Apple ID. Tap your ID and sign out. Go back to Settings>Store>Sign in and then try to update again.
