Time to upgrade. Don't know what to do.
So, after years of abuse, it seems like my old trusted MacBook (late 2008) has given up on living and it's time to find a replacement. I went to an Apple store and asked about the MacBook Air and the MacBook Pro retina, both 13 inch screens. When I explained what I'd be using the computer for, the staff recommended the MBP. I told them my main applications are Photoshop and Corel Painter, with a Wacom drawing tablet.
I decided to do my own research and found out the MBP 13's GPU is not really that much better than the MBA's. Furthermore, when I checked out the refurbished late 2013 retina laptops at the Apple website I found a 15 inch MBP similarly priced to the 13 inch. So now I'm wondering what to do.
As I mentioned, my old MacBook unibody (late 2008) was mostly used for Photoshop (heaps of layers and filters) and Corel Painter. It wasn't brilliant, but with its RAM memory expanded to 8GB was working Ok-ish.
I'm happy with 256 GB storage, anything larger is a plus. Same with screen real estate, 15 inches would be nice but not a must-have. I'm more interested on the best bang for the buck. I'd appreciate your opinions about the following machines:

The MBP15's advantages are the Nvidia graphics and the quad core processor, aside from the screen.
The MBP13 has twice as much RAM, and storage.
Do you guys think the 15's quad core and better GPU would offset the 13's RAM advantage? Specially when we consider the fact that with the retina laptops you're stuck with the RAM you get when you buy the computer.
And my last question, is it worth considering the 2014 machines? Even if I'd get less RAM at a similar price?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Could you let us know what exact errors you got when you tried to connect to DMS?
Few things you can check:
1. Verify sys.dba_registry view which lists all component version information
2. Ensure listener for 10.1.0.4 database is up and running
3. Ensure port, sid, host information is correct
4. create a new dmuser account and verify SQLPlus client connection is working.
If you are connecting to the server via Data Miner, ensure you have downloaded the latest ODMr 10.1 RTM release from OTN.

I was useing my colne tool in apetrure when, apeture froze. I could not get it to work again, so I turned off my computer, re booted my machine and tried to open the programme again. I can not get aperture to open again and I can't open I photo either. Does anyone have any suggestions to help me get the programme running again? I have a deadline to meet this evening. Help!
I have tried both options.
When I got to point 3 I choose the library I was working on and the same error message popped up, so this option did not work.
I then tried the second suggestion and chose the repair option but as before there is no sign of a repair database grogress indicator. Where would I be able to see this and what does it look like. I can't see any evidence of anything happening on my screen.
I have also just tried the first option that comes up in the pop up box where you have to enter your password, this resulted in the same error message.
I don"t know what to do.
I don't really want to have to go for the third option where you have to rebuild you data base - Would this result in loosing images? -
As the title says. Everytime I sync my music or my photos into my ipod it keeps asking me to restore it. I don't know what the problem is, I reinstalled my itunes yesterday and it sill does the same thing. My brother told me to visit an Apple store to get help this weekend and I just wanted to ask here first. Help please
Go to the Apple icon in the upper left corner and select 'About this Mac' - it will show you which version of OSX you are using.

I just wanted to update firefox and it won't let me. I drag the icon into applications, then a window ask me if I want to replace older version. I click yes and the window mentioned above appears. I purchased this computer new, I'm the only owner. Why would I not give myself permission to do something on my own computer.
If you get an error message that you do not have sufficient permissions or have problems with updating then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the DMG file to the desktop

* Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install

I recently successfully upgraded my mid-2007 mac desktop to OS X 10.9 I tried to purchase a print from my iphoto and it told me that I could not do this unless I upgraded to Iphoto version 9.5 which I then did. When I attempted to open my iphoto library following the upgrade, I got the message "To open library with this version of Iphoto, it firsts needs to prepare" I was then prompted to use the Iphoto library upgrader. I downloaded the upgrader as it suggested. However, nothing different happens. I still get the same prompt each time I attempt to open the iphoto (telling me the I need to prepare with the library upgrader.) I have no idea what to do next. I am not finding any help in my online searches. Can someone please offer suggestions? Keep in mind that I am not a computer expert, so simple terms/instructions would be most helpful. Thank you!
Yes, I purchased the upgrade through the apple website, downloaded successfully. When I clicked on the iphoto icon, that's when I got the prompt that said I needed to prepare my library using the library upgrader. I got this from apple website as well. It downloaded, then appeared on my desktop screen as a 'library upgrader' I don't know what to do next? When I click it, it just keeps repeating the download process.

EDGE UP RETURNED MULTIPLE TIMES Don't know what to do now

I have been a loyal Verizon customer with an account in good standing for as long as I've owned a cell phone... I am looking for resolution to an ongoing problem from my EDGE agreement. I upgraded to Iphone 6 plus in November. I initially lost my shipping label and had to request another to return my Samsung Galaxy s4 to the Edge Program. I had to request a new one which took weeks to arrive. Once I received it I put the phone in the mail immediately and tracked it to arrival at it's destination, thinking everything was good. On the 45th and last day I had to return the phone it showed back up on my doorstep. It was rejected with the explanation that it was not the phone on the original edge up program and was not an authorized Verizon replacement...that was correct information, however the end of June or beginning of July 2014 my phone was replaced under warranty as the service was never up to par...After numerous troubleshooting calls a technician decided to replace the phone. At that time I returned the original phone. Evidently after hour long chats and phone rep conversations it was determined that my information was in fact the truth. The phone rep never returned my call as promised, but the chat person got help from her supervisor to correct the ESN number in the system with that of the replacement phone, ship out a new return label, and put a note on the account that the warehouse should accept the return even though arrival would be past the 45 day cut off. So a second time I sent back the phone. Thinking everything was corrected. I tracked the phone to the warehouse. After another period of time the phone arrived back to me a second time. I placed a call that day. So stressed about the now 300.00 charge showing up on my account. The customer service rep again had to verify the complete story of what had happened. After another hour plus conversation and consultation with supervision, the plan was: Go to Verizon and do the trade-in, as Verizon, " has to get the phone back" Once the phone is received I will get a 100.00 credit, when the representative confirms the phone is received she will credit my account an additional 200.00. The padded envelope I received to return the phone was pitiful. most of the bubble wrap was popped to begin with. I have photos of the phone the day I shipped it. I was also disappointed with no tracking number I could utilize....so I paid and extra fee to add it at the post office. I have a receipt that I shipped the phone on 1/27/15 and that it should have arrived at destination on 1/30/15, but the phone has not been scanned again since leaving my local post office, so that is as far as I can track it. I don't know what the answer is....but the ESN not being changed was obviously the root of the problem and not something I could control. Now I am holding my breath that the phone arrives and is found to be at the 100 value and that the customer service rep holds up what she says she would do..... I am looking for help and some type of resolution....I have sent the phone back and now have launched an inquiry with the post office since I can't track it any further. Please give me some idea of how to rectify this situation. I do not want to be bitter with Verizon, but this has truly been a night mare, and I have spent valuable time rehashing this story with multiple representatives to no avail. lots of people seem to be havgin a problem sending email from iCloud webmail.
does your email address have uppercase characters in it?
if so, try creating an alias in lowercase (go to preferences in iCloud webmail and select 'accounts') and see if email sends okay from that -
I'm trying to import photos from my iphoto library, but keep getting a message saying I cant import from 7.1.5, that I need to upgrade to 7.1.5 or later. But I have version 8.1.2. I don't know what to do. I've been able to import in the past.
Sounds like an issue with the iPhoto Library
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

I'm working on a movie in FCP and using cutaways and titles in many places in the timeline. While working on a movie 2 days ago, and I don't know what I did, all the cutaways and titles are now linked to the movie clips from below rather than above. When I "grab" them and drag them up to the top-side, as soon as I "release", they go back down. Along the menu bar, I've check the "view", "modify", "clips", etc., looking for any thing that might refer to appearance of the time line. What must I do to get the cutaways and titles back on top where they belong? The audio clips remained properly-linked to the time line and play properly. The cutaways and titles can be seen but do not play.
The cutaways and titles should be linked above the timeline clips, not below

If the Mac freezes, it may be a preference setting.
Check System Preferences > Energy Saver
See if Restart automatically if the computer freezes is selected. If it is, deselect that box. -

It should update.

Launch Photoshop cc 2014 application from Applications folder:

Error 49 occurs while updating the application , when Creative Cloud app does not have reference / Access to installed CC app, so that it can apply updates for the same .
You can try to update from CC app like Photoshop itself and check. -

When you saw this dialog box, did you choose "Erase and Sync"?
If you did, your iPhone was erased, then your iTunes Library was transferred to it. If your iTunes Library was empty, your iPhone will be also.
Your previously purchased music, apps, books, and videos are still yours. You just have to download them again.

When making a photo book, my iPhoto freezes during uploading the book to the storey. I have attempted this 4 times now and I don't know what to do! I know the file size is massive due quantity of large image files, but I don't want to reduce the image file size and compromise quality in the book. How can I get past this?

Try to boot into Safe Mode and order this way, or sign into a different user account and try to order as a different user.

How do you transfer photos to external backup and keep the photos in events with event name or with description name. Each time I have tried to transfer them they only transfer with a jpg number so you don't know what photos are what. When you have several thousand photos it is difficult to determined what is what.
Why does iPhoto have the ability to put photos in events and to give them descriptions if it doesn't transfer this info with the photo. I want to back my photos up to an external drive.The simplest way to achieve what you want is to back up the iPhoto Library. That will get everything.
You sem to be exporting from iPhoto to the Finder. The Finder does not have the same organisation capabilities as iPhoto. If you're going to do that you need to understand some of the differences between the two.
Event Name will become Folder Name.
'Description Name' I guess is the Title you give the Photo
Jpeg Number is the File Name assigned by your camera.
So: File -> Export
Set your Kind to Jpeg
Select your preferred Quality
Check the Boxes at 'Titles and Descriptions' and Location Information
Under FIlename select 'Use Title'
Click on Export. In the Next Window choose a New Folder as your export destination and then Name that as you prefer
