Time to upgrade my BB...What Smart Phone Should I get?  Or should I wait?

I'm due for new phone now.  I use my old pearl blackberry phone for emails, web, and most importantly syncing my Microsoft Outlook contact, tasks, and calendar.  I know the BB does it, but do these other Droids or other smartphone do it?  The Blackberry Torch looks perfect (I wish Verizon had it)...I want a  full keyboard and touch screen (i.e. like torch)  What is my second best choice?  Something else coming out in the next few months I should wait for?  Again, must be able to sync easily with Outlook.  Thanks!

i have an iphone 4 with 4.3.2 version, i want to upgrade the software. but my phone is not getting synchronised on itunes and not getting detected. also there is no update software tab under settings.please help me

If your phone isn't being recognized by your computer, you need to follow the steps in this article to resolve that
Also, some basic isolation needs to be done. Does it show up in itunes on any other computers? do you have other cords you can test with to see if it might be the cord? if the phone doesn't show up on any computers, it's likely your phone has a hardware issue

  • Still getting conflicting answers about upgrading a line to smart phone

A the risk of incurring the ire of some people, I simply feel compelled to restate my question about converting a basic (existing line) phone to a smart phone after 6/28. My question is sincere not asked in a cynical way, and I am still unsure of the answer because of differing answers even within the official ranks of verizon. I understand all the elements of the 'awesome' new share plan (even though I prefer to avoid it for now). So, if anyone knows where to find the specific documentation that refers to this would you please offer links to said documents. Direct answers, even from people who Identify themselves as support personnel (here in forums) have as recently as yesterday, been shown wrong. While I offer thanks to anyone just for the effort of replying I would prefer authoritative responses, and here again, individuals have (as often as support reps) given accurate answers.  Simply stated once more I would like to know "When I need to upgrade my daughters phone In AUGUST, from a basic phone to a smart phone will verizon allow me to purchase the phone upgrade AND add 2gb data package for 30$". There would seem to be no ambiguity in the question, however in the face of opposing answers it just defies logic . The ONLY reason I am confused is because verizon reps have at been odds with each other. Documents are more reassuring and if anyone can offer links I would appreciate it. I have even considered acquiring a phone from outside vzw but had been told even that avenue would not allow me to add a data package to my EXISTING account. Truth oh truth how illusive thou be.
P.S. strictly for the sake of discussion, I will say that my viewpoint of the low quality of VZW customer service reflects this and other instances of inaccurate and false answers from this company. They just get it wrong too much to have a high rating from me even though others may have had different experiences.

Scroll down to "tell me more". Last question. "I have an unlimited data plan on my account. Do I need to change it?"
"You're not required to move to Share Everything but if you do, unlimited data will not be retained on your line. As a Verizon Wireless customer you have choices when you upgrade at discounted pricing. You can choose from a standalone data package starting at $30 for 2GB or a Share Everything Plan. If keeping unlimited is important to you, you can choose to upgrade and pay full retail price for the phone."
I imagine that this would be the same as upgrading a basic phone to a smart phone. You can add a data package to the line you are upgrading (that it currently does not have) and it won't affect the unlimited on your Droid's line(s). It's only when you try to upgrade the lines that currently have unlimited that you won't be able to keep the unlimited data. You can choose to move everybody on the plan to a shared data plan, or move to a tiered data plan. You just can't keep unlimited when you upgrade at a discounted price.

  • Upgrade from basic to smart phone before contract finishes.  What are my options?

    Hi everyone,
I'm working on upgrading from a basic phone to a smartphone.  My current phone is one line in a shared plan (1 iphone and 3 basic phones).
My current contract isn't up until September 2014, but it's become necessary that I get a smartphone this winter.  Obviously, that's not going to happen without some fees, but I'm trying to figure out what my options are.  This is what I think I have, but are there ones I'm not considering?
    1. Buy a phone through verizon without the subsidy.  I assume this resets my 2 year contract.  But there's no early termination fee, right?
    2. Buy a verizon-ready used phone from a friend and apply it to my account.  I believe that this doesn't incur an ETF either, right?
    3. Add a new line with a smartphone (with subsidy).  Transfer my number to that phone, and then pay to terminate the basic phone line (which would be $175-5/month, so $105, right?).
    4. Pay to terminate this line ($105), and move to another carrier, but my number wouldn't transfer.
Any recommendations within these options, or things I haven't mentioned?
    Thanks!

    1. If you buy a phone without subsidy, there is no contract. And no ETF -- you'd simply put the new phone on the line and the contract end date is the same.
    2. Correct. You can activate a phone you bought elsewhere anytime. It won't change your contract. You will simply have to add the data plan.
    3. The contract is tied to the phone number. So if you add a line for a smartphone, that number/line would incur the $350 smartphone ETF. But you can transfer the new smartphone to your current line, then put your basic phone on that line -- it will either cost you $10/month if you're on a Nationwide plan or $30/month if on Share Everything.
    4. You can port your number to the new carrier and pay the ETF, which seems it'll be about $105. Every carrier has to allow porting nowadays. Just know if you're not happy with the new carrier and want to switch back to Verizon within the first few months (either 60 or 90 days, I can't recall), you'll be put right back on the contract you were on.
I can't think of any other options. When I feel like switching and I'm under contract, I typically choose No. 2 in your above scenario.

  • Upgrading a basic phone to smart phone without 'Share Everything'

I have older Family Share Plan containing basic phones, as well as smart phones (with tiered 2GB/$30 monthly data). When they are eligible for upgrade, will any new smart phones added to the plan be able to receive the same 2GB/$30 data that other phones currently on my plan receive?
The more unreasonable options seem to be requiring every single person on the plan to switch into Share Everything, or booting the person looking to get a smartphone out of the plan. Neither of these are a viable option.
Thanks for any help clearing this up!

The $30 per month is for 2 GB of data, in addition to whatever you are paying per month for voice/text/insurance/taxes, etc.  When you do switch, if you aren't aware of it, do it on the first day of your billing cycle so that you don't run into proration.
And some people are reporting that some Corporate stores try to convince people that they'll save money on the Share Everything plan.  Some will save money, some won't.  Just do your homework, know what plan you want, and read your new contract before signing!

  • I just want to know what specific smart phones that I can purchase that use Firefox. Thanks.

I am purchasing a mobile phone after not having one for five years. I like to use Firefox at home and need to know specifically what smart phones use this product. The android 2.2 etc. and the rest really does not mean anything to me. You could tell me how to find this information on your website. I found one page that listed devices but then it said something about going to Google Play Store and you lost me. FYI, I have a very sharp learning curve.

Will Firefox work on my mobile device? | How to
Will Firefox work on my mobile device?
Firefox is compatible with Android 2.2 and above devices. Installation requires about 24 MB internal storage, 384 MB of RAM and a display that is at least 320 pixels high and 240 pixels wide. You can download Firefox for Android or search for Firefox in the Google Play store.
Important: Some of the devices listed here only work with the latest version of Firefox. If you search for Firefox in the Google Play store and don't find it, your device may not be compatible.

  • I have what I consider the best smart phone on the market, but I resently upgraded my Windows Vista PC to Windows 8 and my Itunes went away.  Is there anything that I did wrong or aren't the two compatible?

I have what I consider the best smart phone.  I recently upgraded my PC from Windows Vista to Windows 8 and my Itunes went away.  Did I do something wrong or aren't the two compatible?

If the update did not preserve all your Applications you may simply have to download iTunes again and instrall it on Windows 8.
There's nothing strange about an update not preserving installed Applications.

  • Should I upgrade to a Smart Phone?

I've been eligible for an upgrade for quite some time, but haven't done so because I like my current device. But now the device is wearing out so I am preparing to upgrade. I like the appearance of many of the smart phones. But I only use my phone for voice calls, a few texts per year, some web browsing (especially watching youtube videos) and lots of email. In fact I use the phone more for email than all other tasks combined. I currently have the 25MB pkg but am not using that much data.
With Verizon's new pricing structure, a smart phone plan would cost me only a few dollars more than a basic phone plan. So I'm asking, is it worth it for me to get a smart phone even though I would not be using apps, listening to/downloading music, or even using the camera? And if so, what kind of phone would you suggest? I like having a physical keyboard, and I've read that the Pantech Marauder is a good phone for "beginners" like myself.

Good point, lewisr13. Currently I am on the cheapest voice plan, 39.99/month for 450 minutes and the 9.99/month data pkg. So that's $50/month + taxes. I absolutely love the (basic) device I have...but after 3 years it is wearing out. The colors on the screen are now all reddish and sometimes change to bluish. And sometimes there's "static" during voice calls. When the phone breaks I will have no choice but a get a new one, whether with Verizon or with some other carrier. I plan to stay with Verizon. If I switch carriers I'd have the activation fee + the cost of a new device (although that could be free too). To stay with Verizon I'd have the $30 updgrade fee but also a loyalty discount on a new device (which could be free anyway).
So now my options are: (1) purchase a device at full price and keep my current plan. (2) get a new basic phone at a discounted price or even free and get on the cheapest Share Everything Plan which would be I think $70 + taxes. Or maybe it's $60 + taxes. (3) For just a little more $, get a smartphone at a discounted price or even free and get on the Share Everything Plan.
On the Share Everything Plan I'd have Unlimited minutes.
As Jennifer mentioned, there are many services and features out there that I don't even know about. I am sure I will use some of these. As far as the higher cost....everything is going up but at least in this case I'll be getting something for my money. Most other things -such as gas - we're simply paying more for the same amount of the same item.

  • After many emails and letter that is was time to upgrade we went into verizon to upgrade.. after 2 hours of picking phones etc. we are charged $30 per phone to upgrade. Nowhere was this advertised.. want my money back!!!!

After many messages and letters that is was time to upgrade our phone we went to the verizon store.. After 2 more hours of picking phones (not the flip one I so wanted) we get to the pay part and find out we are now charged $30 per phone to upgrade???  What???  No where on any advertisements or anywhere in the store is this stated...I have called, texted, emailed and complained to everyone and have been promised a refund time after time yet nothing has been credited to my account yet.  I have been with Verizon for 15 years and this will be my last upgrade with them... and just try to get a real person on the phone!!!

    tedcath wrote:
No I didn't choose not to see it...in the Verizon store it was NOT posted anywhere it was on the contract but again after 2 hours I signed it my fault I know... however I won't be going to any of the phone companies..my smarter son has NO contract pays $35 per month but did have to buy his phone...but it would only take 3 months of bills to make up for the "FREE" phones I didn't get....
    A) it IS posted this has been proven. Tell you what go back to that store take your camera and take pictures of the price tags on the phones then post them here showing us that the fee isn't on the price tags.
    B) READ your contract before signing. Why people don't do this is beyond me.
    C) What cruddy service does he have? No way he has a smartphone. Sorry didn't get a 100% free phone. Seriously that sounds really entitled. My son upgraded his phone to a LG Lucid. It was 97 cents plus the upgrade fee with taxes and all came to $35. Do I feel "ripped off" because he got a phone that retails for $450 for $35? Nope. Why should I feel ripped off for a 92% discount?

I don’t remember these exactly and I tried several times with different options but unsuccessfully. I also forget my email used to configurate the phone. I have the phone box and the bill. I sent you an email with my problem and attachments with the box informations, the bill and the reset request. What to do? You said to me:

  • Early Termination for Upgrading to Smart Phones

I am really frustrated with Verizon right now. I have plan with several smart phones and 2 basic phones. I wanted to upgrade these 2 phones to Smart Phones. I couldn't imagine that this would be an issue. Verizon only earns more money by having me purchase smart phones instead of basic phones. I was told that I can't upgrade until September when the contract on these basic phones is up unless I want to pay a $175 early termination fee per phone. I understand that in general, you need people to stay with the contract for the 2 years in order to cover the price of the phone they were given.  In this case, these are cheap phones. I'm sure they have been paid for many times over in the past year. If I upgrade, verizon will be getting $40 a month per phone instead of $20 a month per phone. I might even upgrade the Data plan. Instead I am completely trapped until September. $175 Termination fee would be way more than these basic phones are worth. I am tempted to go to another carrier and start a new contract and let these run out - it will actually cost me less to pay the bill for these phones and not use them than to pay for an early termination fee. Or maybe I'll try one of the comanies that offers to pay your termination fee. Verizon - you are not making sense! P.S. If you want my basic phones back, you can have 'em.

Unfortunately Joe, VZW can't bend the rules just to satisfy you or anyone else.  I know you may think that it would be only smart for them to let you out to get another phone plan that will yield them more revenue.  However, they're not seeing it that way in your case.  Rule are rules regardless of if we like them or not.  I upgraded my iP5 to an iP6+ in September.  I was less than 2 months on the end of of current 2 year agreement...but because I used Early EDGE I had to give away my phone, which I was 2 months from owning outright, back to VZW for absolutely no compensation just to enjoy the offer of Early EDGE.  Fair...maybe not to most.  Some people would think that VZW should have just let them out since they were so close to the end...but I didn't see it that way.  I understood my agreement when I signed up and therefore I knew I had to uphold my end of the bargain.  My point is, VZW makes exceptions for a lot of things...but I've never really heard anyone on here say that they've bumped up an upgrade just because they were asked by the consumer.  Best of luck to you with your next carrier...but be advise that I don't think many other carriers are going to bump your upgrade date just because you ask...they'll inform you that if you plan to upgrade earlier than 2 years then you'd probably want to try their version of EDGE...(i.e. Next, JUMP, or Easy Pay)

They sell iPhones at Verizon Stores. You might want to vist one and have them explain the plans and what you obligation would be with the different options.
Of course if you plan to order tonight it may be too late to visit a store.

  • Upgrading from a feature phone to smart phone

I have a feature phone with a 75mb data plan that is pre share everything plan and we are not interested in switching to the share everything plan.  I'm wondering what I have for options for a data, if anything, if I want to upgrade to a smart phone.  I will not be upgrading my line, just buying a phone second hand.  Any insight would be helpful.

You can stay on your old plan even with an upgrade. The only ones that had to buy a phone at full price are the ones on Unlimited. Anyways the data options for smartphones with the old pricing are 2 GB for $30, 5 GB for $50 and 10 GB for $80. Overages are $10 per GB.

Can I do this without any changes to my monthly fees?  And continue with 1 smartphone and one non-smart phone on my plan?

Yes you can, there is a loophole to the system. Here's what you want to do. First, upgrade the basic phone to whatever smart phone you want, if it's a 4g phone you want to order 2 SIM cards, because the one that's sent with the basic number will be stuck to that number, so when you switch back the basic phone, with the original monthly charge, then you can keep unlimited data if you have it, AND have the smartphone to replace the smartphone! (Keep in mind you will extend the basic phone's contract by an additional 2 years if you do this) By the way, the reason you want to do this way instead of an alternate upgrade, AKA "transfer upgrade", is because you will lose unlimited data that way. There are three ways you can keep it. One, buy a Certified Pre-owned Device from Verizon, two, buy a phone at full-retail price, and three, buy a used phone from some other retailer or user (aka craigslist or ebay). This option falls under the "other retailer or user" because the other number "used" the phone. Good luck!

  • I have a Droid Bionice, my 1st Smart phone. An install kept coming up ,I did it and everything has changed. I don't knpw what to do...Help...smart phone...dumb person

I bought a Droid Bionic Smart Phone. I loved it so very much. When I was on it and install kept coming up, over & over. I Don't know what it was called but I did look and it didn't say Verizon anywhere but I assumed w/my Lookout security app it wouldn't let anything bad in. But I downloaded it now my icons are different and on my manage apps I use to have only maybe 20 settings now I have a bunch. and the lil icon looks like a blue square app w/the lil cog looking symbol in it. Everytime I try to delete one thinking it will go back to the way it was it says it will cause problems w/all other settings. And also after the icom it says com.motorola.android.deep it says that on about 20 or 25 after the icon.It won't let me disable  any of them.
The very 1st icon on my Apps on ,y Apps setting is the blue symbol that looks like a cog, and it has 32.00KB if I try to disable that because I figure it's the mother of all of them it says in a pop up...Disable built -in app-----If you disable a built in app, other apps may misbehave.? That doesn't sound very professional to me.One even says key chain for the app. I don't know what to do. I did look at it and I assumed when it popped up it was a legit thing. I didnt know you had to beware of something that was a pop up on the page.
I don't know if it's a Gingerbread or Ice Cream thing, I just know when I go to my settings it has overtaken 3/4th of my apps. And on most of them it doesny even offer me the chance or choice to disable it. Please somebody help me. I am so new to this. I loved my phone before now it's taken Over everything. I am scared if I run some of the things I see it says on my settings app it runs my phone,it says for instance:
    Permission
This App can access the following on your phone
    *YOUR LOCATION
    coarse (network-based) location,fine (GPS) location
    *SYSTEM TOOLS
    modify global system settings
    STORAGE
    SYNC SERVICE
I dont know what any of this is and it says if I stop of close any of it , it will cause the app to fail.
How can I tell what I have downloaded as far as this whole montrosity....SO I can study it and read up what to do. I do't want to lodr my pictures or my pictures on my gallery/ I am afraid I have really screwed it up good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I THANK ANYBODY THAT CAN HELP ME IN ADVANCE....
