Time updating with usb 1.1.1 takes

Hey all of you guys with usb 1.1.1 ports! I was wondering if anyone could give me a general estimate of how long the first sync takes. Thanks!

It takes forever....
My wife put about 5 gigs from her old computer and it took somewhere between 2-3 hours. I transferred 13 gigs and it took about 1.5 hours or so.
Of course once it is synced it really isn't an issue.

    I recently bought a 500 mb TC, so am somewhat a newbie to it, and am already wondering if I should have bought the 1 Terrabyte model.
    I am trying to figure out exactly how I can use the USB HD facility on the TC. Is the point of this that I can achieve extra Time Machine/Time Capsule backup-capacity automatically, i.e. if space runs out on the TC it will go to the USB HD automatically? Or do I have to choose this USB HD in Time Machine options?
    Are there other ways of using the attached USB HD? For example to mirror the TC, for an extra level of safety. Or could I choose within Time Machine to backup only to this USB drive? Or could you use it as an additional Hard Drive that is nothing to do with Time Machine backups at all, just an extra HD accessed wirelessly?
    Could you even add extra Hard Drives to Time Capsule with some sort of USB hub or in a chain.
    I can't seem to find info about this in manual , so replies gratefully received.

    The 500GB model is a much better value. As you've stated, you could add more HDD capacity when the prices come down.

    No, TM cannot span from the current backup (internal TC HDD) to the USB HDD connected

    Yes, you have to choose it. It also needs to be formatted HFS+ if it already isn't. You can only format the USB HDD when connected to your Mac. Disk Utility does not work on the TC HDD nor the USB HDD connect to the TC.

    Yes, via AirPort Utility -> Disks -> Archive. It clones the internal HDD. It is NOT incremental.

    No, TM cannot backup a NAS (i.e. the USB HDD connected to the TC).

    For 2+ years I used a USB hard drive shared off my Airport Extreme to host time machine backups.  I just switched internet providers solely so that i could go back to using my airport extreme and sharing a backup disk.  But time machine no longer shows it as an available drive...and I found this

    which states: Time Machine is not supported with USB hard drives that are connected to an AirPort Express or AirPort Extreme device.
    This is a pretty big step backwards as far as I'm concerned.....are there are any ways around it?

  • Time capsule with USB printer stop to work.

    Two months ago, I installed a brand new Time Capsule 2T. Initial configuration went without any issue.I installed an HP wireless printer and a second HP Laserjet to the USB port on time capsule. Everything was working well and suddenly the printer hooked on USB port stop working. Print job remains in the queue and nothing happens even using my MBP or using a PC connected to Time Capsule. The wireless printer is still working fine. So, I did a soft reset by pressing the button at the back of Time Capsule but it doesn't solve the problem. Both MBP and PC cannot connect to USB printer. The only way to recover printing capability is to unplug power on Time Capsule and re-plug it. In this case, MBP and PC could print. I don't know when this issue begins and I cannot predict when printing capability issue on USB printer will occur. I'm pretty sure this a Time Capsule issue or OS issue.
    Couple things I tried:
    - Uninstalled printer and re-added
    - All drivers are up-to-date
    - Time Capsule firmware is up-to-date
    - MBP running OS X Mountain Lion with latest patches
    - PC Windows Vista Ultimate with latest patches.
    Any idea what could cause this?

    Yes, your solution of the power cycle of the TC shows that this is caused solely by the poor networking ability of the TC. There is a flaw in the firmware that is causing the issue. The issue affects a number of things.. yours is just one example of it.
    There is no solution. I cannot even give you a true work around using just the TC..
    Best solution is of course to get a network printer.. usb is seldom designed for network usage. You can purchase an ethernet to USB print server but the cost of the item would be half the cost of the new printer. And useless item into the future. So consider carefully.. maybe time for a new printer.
    In the TC do the following.
    1. Reduce the firmware to 7.6.1 if you recently installed latest 7.6.3 that could be some of the issue.. it has proven less than great update. Hold down option key when you select firmware and you can downgrade.
    2. Factory reset after you do 1. or do it anyway if you want to stick to the latest klugde firmware. But clean up the old settings by using new setup.
    3. Use all names that comply to windows standard.
    Short,, 10-20 characters should be plenty.. less than 10 also good.
    No spaces..
    Pure alphanumeric.
    4. If the TC is set to main router, set the dhcp server to much shorter lease time. I suggest even 20min. The increase in network traffic for dhcp renewal will be tiny.. but it will keep ARP tables updated better than the full day used by default.
    5. From the windows side make sure the TC is set to the correct workgroup under file sharing.. generally WORKGROUP.
    6. If you still have issues.. and I think you may mitigate the problem but not resolve it doing the above.. a nightly auto reboot from an electrical timer.. crude but we have done such things before to fix crummy domestic level router to make them reliable.

    guys this is what i am trying to do?
    i have few reports on some cubes,
    i have created some queries on the cubes,
    created a web template and in item i have placed each query with data load time, so i get the last time the data was updated.
    now what i want to do is.. if the data was laoaded yesterday, i want the web template to check if it was loaded today or not, if yes then put a check box in the web template that would be clicked? if not then it would be unchcked with the last time loaded.
    in the query designer , i only have the time status of the last query updated, the query is suppose to update everyday? but it can also be updated everyday twice, as once in the morning and once in the evening.
    so how do i go and create , an if statement that if date 1(yesterday) is not equal  to date 2(today), then have the check box in the web template be checked?
    can i create a conditon or exception.. any ideas would be helpful i am stuck...

    I was able to upgrade to iOS 4.0 with ease but now there is a minor issue with the time. The time keeps changing for some reason. As example this morning after waking up to my alarm I noticed the time on my iPhone was say it was "2:45am" instead of "4:45am". The alarm woke me up but last week it woke me up an hour earlier and didn't notice until I was in the car ready to leave. The clock in my car read "6:00 am" and my iPhone said "7:00 am". Not a big deal but could cause me to be late cause this morning I was on my way to the airport. My iPhone is set to update the time automatically and never seen this with OS 3.xxx. Just want to know if anyone else was having an issue with their time. Don't seem to have any of the issues that others are having.

    When my Nokia 5800xm is connected thru' USB, the OVI Suite informs of 3 updates available... but when I connect thru' Blue tooth it says 7 updates are available..
    My device is having the latest software v 52.0.007 and OVI Suite v3.1.0.47 Beta..running on Windows 7 32 bit
    Can someone throw some light.. ?
    BTW this happened for the first time today..Till now both connections were showing the same updates whenever available..

    I  bought a 2TB time capsule and now I have two questons actialy. First I want to add a 1TB external HD to my TC, second I want to access my data's from another places with any network. These are possible and how can I do these things please help me?

    ExFat will not work on a TC.. Fat16 or Fat32 (both not recommended btw) or HFS+.. note if you use fat you cannot use AFP.

    ipad or iphone, ie iOS devices do not use AFP, so the access is only via SMB.. and you need to purchase an App to get that ability.

    No one knows... but I would imagine that when a new ATD is released, it will have USB 3.0 ports.

  • Refuses to update with USB

    Hello,
    I'm a lifelong WP user, and only had my Z3 compact for about 3 weeks. PC Companion now keeps telling me to update the software (I think it is the 23.1.A.1.28 update, as it is currently on 23.1.A.0.726). Anyway, when it gets to the 'preparing your phone' the phone shuts down, and then the instruction is plug in the USB while holding the volume down button.
    Nothing happens when I do that.
    When I unplug it, the phone won't turn on again - I have to hold the power button down for about 10 seconds before it will turn on.
    The only thing that happens when I plug in the USB while holding the volume down button is the notification light flashes from red to green very quickly.
    Does anyone know what is happening here?

    Restart the computer > disable both any antivirus and/or firewall > run PCC > try again, if that doesn't work then > try a different cable and/or usb port.

  • Set up Time capsule with USB modem

    I'm relatively new to my mac & I just purchased a time capsule. I use a Verizon USB modem for internet and this has caused me some problems trying to set up the TC.
    Is there anything any one can tell me to help? I could use some step by step help. The light is green, says I was successful but I can't print & have not even tried anything else. I just know my internet connection is wrong.....
    Any suggestions would be appreciated!

    Although the Time Capsule (TC) could be configured a number of ways, having a USB modem will limit you somewhat. I am assuming that your modem is not wireless and that you connect your MacBook Pro directly for Internet access using an USB cable ... correct?
    Since the modem doesn't have an Ethernet port, the only option you will have for the TC is to operate it as a wireless network ... basically its default configuration. You then have two choices on how to connect your MBP to the TC: by Ethernet or wirelessly.

    Our new Levono Yoga 3 has the same issue with display and with wifi. I have not tried any fixes yet. I did see one solution of downgrading version of display driver, but I understand this will auto update frequently so it does not seem to be a worthwhile solution. Having purchased this less than a month ago this is very disappointing and do hope a solution is provided soon.

    I recently purchased a new MacBook Pro and synced it with my old computer. How do I get it to connect to my Time Capsule to pull old files? It wants to start a new library under the new computer, but I need files from my old computer on my new one.

    I mean like seriously from bygone era.. and very likely to not appreciate even more load than it already has. I hope you are planning for what happens when it finally bites the dust.. they tend to go rapidly .. like one day it works.. next it is over.. all over. 
    I am looking at the option of picking up a new USB 3.0 external drive (e.g. Toshiba Canvio Basics 2TB or Slim 500 GB) and plugging it into the (unused) USB port of the Time Capsule for my MBP Time Machine backup.  Will this work?

    Sadly no, that is not possible.. Time Machine does not work the same way on network drives cf local drives.. you just have to live with the very slow backup.
    So of course this is also impossible.
    Also, can I switch back and forth between using Time Machine using 1) Time Capsule with USB drive connected for wireless backups at home and occassionally plugging the 2) same USB 3.0 drive directly into the MBP for on the road backups?
    But you can buy a second USB drive and take it with you.. you can setup two different locations for backups and TM will recognise when the USB drive is plugged in.
    You could also use CCC and create a bootable drive image.. which will get you backup and running in a few minutes cf TM which can takes several hours of absolute brain beating. CCC backups means you are more likely to recover files than simply using one backup utility. You can also use CCC to the USB drive at home.. now and then.
