Time values that add up to greater than 24 hours

Hi Apple SUpport Community,
I am trying to get a cell in Numbers to return a TIME value when the sum of two time values are greater than 24.
For example, if a worker has a shift that starts at 8pm and works for 6 hours and 15 minutes, the shift ends at ((20:00+06:15=26:15)-24:00)=02:15am the next day.
If I formulate a cell in numbers to add to time values, it comes return the nasty red triangle saying "The Formula's arguments can only contain one date value"
Thanks in advance for any help!
ST

a duration can be obtained by subtracting two time values (which are technically the date and the time).  durations are specified as:
weeks, days, hours, minutes, seconds and milliseconds.
I do not know what you are trying to figure out...
- how long did the worker work? or
- when did the shift end?
can you state a question (without regard for the solution) so we can assist?  Also a screen shot of what you enter and what you want as output would be helpful.
All that said you can subtract two times to get a duration.  You can add durations to get another duration.  You cannot add times.  To specify that an entry is a time you enter in the format "0w 0d 30h 14m 22s 0ms"  any of the entries with 0 may be omitted.
you can add durations in cells by using the "+" or "-" operator
as in A1-B1
where A1 contains "3h 45m" and B1 contains "1h 15m"
the result will be "2h 30m"

    Yes, I also sent an email regarding this problem.
    I am using XNET to write a custom device for PXI-8516 LIN card.
    I've attached a couple snippets showing where I've tracked the problem.
    The only error that I've seen comes from the XNET Wait vi in the timeout snippet.  I believe that error occurs because frame queued in the write snippet is never transmitted by the LIN card.

  • Using EVDRE to return only records having a value greater than X

    in the old reporting wizard you could use MDX statement like "return only those members/data where the value of some account is greater than 100".
    Thus allowing you to select for instance those entities that had signinficant sales or the like.
    In EVDRE i am looking for a way to do the same but apart from returning the Top n members or suppressing zero's i cannot fnd a way to do this. From an earlier post in the old outlooksoft consultancy forum (dating from march last year)  i understood that this functionality was already prepared so i assumed it is in, but how ???? (if it is there of course).
    I hope some of you have the answer.....
    Thanks,
    Edwin van Geel (SAP Netherlands)

    Maggie, I think what David's answer implies is this:
    You can't (now, 5.1) use EVDRE to do a suppression based on signeddata.
    You can either build your entire report with EVENEs for the expansion, and EVGETs for the data retrieval (basically use the wizard templates) or use an EVENE for the expansion and EVDRE to only retrieve the data. The second option's a bit more complicated to set up, but likely the better approach in terms of performance and future-proofing.
    Either way, in the EVENE you use the MDX filter, both to evaluate the data values, and the other filter requirement you have.

  • Using a different TIME range that is different from the default TIME dim

    Hi all - this is my first post - so please be gentle!
    I am busy writing an EVDRE report on an application for which I need to use a different time range than what is currently the overall time dimension for all our other applications.
    Currently the overall time dimension is set for MAR to FEB (Financial year). I now need to do a report for - OCT to SEP reflecting the YTD values?
    The report also calls for having variable A compared against variable B over the extent of this period (OCT to SEP -> YTD). So in essence I will not be displaying any PERIODIC values but rather just the YTD values.
    How can I do this without having to resort to a manual entry of each month's TIME dimension details and still ensure the report dynamically changes when I do an EXPAND?
    I am using BPC 5.1 SP3 on Microsoft Office 2003.
    Kind regards
    Pieter

    Well, without seeing the report and the setup, my suggestion is to leverage the EVTIM function.  If your columns are static, but the user selects a period for the report, you should be able to set-up the function to build the 2 sets of 3 months.  The EVTIM function simply references another time value, and adds up or down at a specific level as a member for use in the column (or that is where I would use it).
    Does that make sense?

  • Report data showing a date 1 day greater than selection formula end date

    Hi All,
       I have a report that contains the following selection:
    date(dateadd("h",-{Calendar.EstUTCOffset}, {tbl.TimeStamp})) >= date(minimum({?Date})) and date(dateadd("h",-{Calendar.EstUTCOffset}, {tbl.TimeStamp})) <= date(maximum({?Date})) and dayofweek(dateadd("h",-{Calendar.EstUTCOffset}, {tbl.TimeStamp})) in {?DayOfWeek} and
        time(dateadd("h",-{Calendar.EstUTCOffset}, {tbl.TimeStamp})) >= time({?Start Time}) and
        time(dateadd("h",-{Calendar.EstUTCOffset}, {tbl.TimeStamp})) < time({?End Time})
    When I view the report, if my date(maximum({?Date}))  is 5/1/2011, the report shows data for 5/2/2011. I can't seem to figure out why my report is generating data for a date that is 1 day greater than my end date.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thank you in advance,

    No need to send SQL as dates are not in WHERE clause.
    It someting to do with the way crystal handles datetimes
    If you want to see dates up to an including 6/2/2011 if its a date time crystal will create a where caluse
    Datetimefield <= 6/3/2011 00:00:00
    Looks like when this is converted to date its stayin as 6/3/2011
    Sorry can't think of any solutions, also I live in UK so just about to leave, hopefully some one else may be able to offer a solution.

  • Rownum greater than query

    Hi all,
    first of all, what I am aware about...
    I am aware about the fact, that ROWNUM filters, inside the query which is to be filtered by rownum, are incorrect. That is this is incorrect:
    select * from <table> where rownum < 20;
    Also I am aware, that the following will never return a result:
    select * from <table> where rownum > 20;
    That is clear. The correct version of the "less than" query is:
    select * from (select * from <table> order by a) where rownum < 20;
    Now the question: what does the last example still not work with "greater than" queries:
    Take e.g. following example:
    select * from (
    select * from dba_objects order by object_name
    ) where rownum > 5
    ;

    I ckeck it again. It's working for me !
    Any way I'll quote it.
    How ROWNUM Works
    ROWNUM is a pseudocolumn (not a real column) that is available in a query. ROWNUM will be assigned the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, ... N, where N is the number of rows in the set ROWNUM is used with. A ROWNUM value is not assigned permanently to a row (this is a common misconception). A row in a table does not have a number; you cannot ask for row 5 from a table—there is no such thing.
    Also confusing to many people is when a ROWNUM value is actually assigned. A ROWNUM value is assigned to a row after it passes the predicate phase of the query but before the query does any sorting or aggregation. Also, a ROWNUM value is incremented only after it is assigned, which is why the following query will never return a row:
    select *
    from t
    where ROWNUM > 1;
    Because ROWNUM > 1 is not true for the first row, ROWNUM does not advance to 2. Hence, no ROWNUM value ever gets to be greater than 1. Consider a query with this structure:
    select ..., ROWNUM
    from t
    where <where clause>
    group by <columns>
    having <having clause>
    order by <columns>;
    Think of it as being processed in this order:
    1. The FROM/WHERE clause goes first.
    2. ROWNUM is assigned and incremented to each output row from the FROM/WHERE clause.
    3. SELECT is applied.
    4. GROUP BY is applied.
    5. HAVING is applied.
    6. ORDER BY is applied.
    That is why a query in the following form is almost certainly an error:
    select *
    from emp
    where ROWNUM <= 5
    order by sal desc;
    The intention was most likely to get the five highest-paid people—a top-N query. What the query will return is five random records (the first five the query happens to hit), sorted by salary. The procedural pseudocode for this query is as follows:
    ROWNUM = 1
    for x in
    ( select * from emp )
    loop
    exit when NOT(ROWNUM <= 5)
    OUTPUT record to temp
    ROWNUM = ROWNUM+1
    end loop
    SORT TEMP
    It gets the first five records and then sorts them. A query with WHERE ROWNUM = 5 or WHERE ROWNUM > 5 doesn't make sense. This is because a ROWNUM value is assigned to a row during the predicate evaluation and gets incremented only after a row passes the WHERE clause.
    Here is the correct version of this query:
    select *
    from
    ( select *
    from emp
    order by sal desc )
    where ROWNUM <= 5;
    This version will sort EMP by salary descending and then return the first five records it encounters (the top-five records). As you'll see in the top-N discussion coming up shortly, Oracle Database doesn't really sort the entire result set—it is smarter than that—but conceptually that is what takes place.

  • How to sum time values sorted by month/year?

    I would like to sum time values that are sorted by month/year. (Concept is based on a pilot's logbook)
    In Table 1, Column A is a date; Column B is the associated time value (duration).
    In Table 2, I would like to Sum the time value of Table 1 Column B by month an year.
    TABLE 1
    Date
    Time
    Header 3
    Jan 1, 2013
    2:30
    Jan 3, 2013
    4:15
    Jan 9, 2013
    3:55
    Feb 2, 2013
    5:01
    Feb 10, 2013
    1:33
    March 3, 2013
    5:55
    TABLE 2
    Month/YR
    Total Time
    Header 3
    Jan-13
    10:40
    Feb-13
    6:34
    Mar-13
    5:55
    Apr-13

    smash,
    Here's an example of what can be done:
    The formula in the Total column of Summary is:
    =SUMIFS(Log :: B, Log :: A, ">="&A, Log :: A, "<"&EOMONTH(A, 0)+1)
    The Month column of Summary is filled with a series of dates that can be formatted as Jan-13, etc, if you wish.
    I used the 0h 0m format for the Durations to distinguish it from times.

  • Dynamic Query and default run-time values

    I am trying to build a dynamic query within dreamweaver and
    retain access from the bindings panel.
    here is a simple pseudo-query I want to expand on.
    "SELECT object FROM objects_table WHERE widget_number =
    widgets"
    widgets is set up as a variable with a run-time value that
    relates to $_GET['widgets']
    this works fine but now i want to expand on this so the query
    returns all results if $_GET['widgets'] is undefined. I was hoping
    I could set the default value for widgets to equal widget_number so
    I would get....
    "SELECT object FROM objects_table WHERE widget_number =
    widget_number" but the runtime query is actually
    "SELECT object FROM objects_table WHERE widget_number =
    'widget_number' " which obviously doesn't work.
    I can alter the query manually from the code view but then I
    lose access to the bindings panel as dreamweaver doesn't parse the
    query properly.
    Any pointers?
    Thanks in advance

    This is simply a question of organizing your workflow. As you
    have
    discovered, Dreamweaver no longer recognizes a recordset if
    you make
    changes to the basic structure of the code. The answer is to
    use
    Dreamweaver to construct your page using an unaltered
    recordset. Once
    the design stage is complete, make the changes required by
    inserting
    your conditional statement. Yes, the fieldnames disappear
    from the
    Bindings panel, and you get exclamation marks in the Server
    Behaviors
    panel, but that's not important. If you need to restore them
    for any
    reason, just wrap the changes in /* */ comments. Remove the
    comments
    when you have finished.

  • Can a topic title contain angle brackets (greater than / less than)?

    Using RoboHelp 8, WebHelp output generated via rhcl and displayed in modified Internet Explorer (IE).
    One of my colleagues is creating a topic to describe an application object that has angle brackets (greater than / less than signs) in its screen name. Needless to say, RoboHelp doesn't like those symbols in the topic title, and it hides them and the text between them in the generated topic title. Steps to reproduce: Typed < and > in the Properties dialog; topic's <title> meta tag shows &lt; and &gt; .
    Other than replacing the topic title field with static text, is there a way to push these symbols through the Properties dialog or the HTML editor?
    It's not world-shatteringly important - the workaround is okay - but I'd like to know how to avoid this problem with other "special" characters, if I can.
    Thanks,
    Elisa

    Willam is correct that you cannot type < or > directly into the HTML code and in pointing out that RoboHelp automatically converts the code when you type that in design view.
    However, I think that you are aware of that and it is not the problem you want addressed. You can see that you can type that straight into the Topic Heading but your Topic Headings are not typed in, you are using fields and what you are finding is that if the Topic Title contains the brackets, that works everywhere other than Topic Headings. Is that correct?
    If so the cause is linked to what Willam has pointed out but I am sure Adobe could work out a solution. Report it as a bug. Please follow this link.
