Replacement program for the Ipod Nano 1st generation
I am attempting to get to the replacement program for the Ipod Nano 1st generation, but whenever I attempt to access the program I am redirected to an adapter replacement program. Did I miss the opportunity to replace the Ipod?
No, you didn't. I just bought an iPod nano 1st gen off of Craigslist and immediatly I went to the iPod replacement program website and requested a new device. I just don't know if I will receive the older 6th Generation or the newer 7th generation.

Hi I am waiting to send my ipod nano 1st generation of however what ipod will i recieve in return, would it bee a 7th generation. The reason for this is becasue most of the forums ive seen, the ipod has been sent off either before the 7th gen was realeased or at the beginning however it has been out for a long time now and could it be possible that i would recieve that, THanks
They are now replacing the 1st Generation Nano with the 7th Generation Nano.

For the iPod nano 1st gen replacement program what generation of iPod nano will it be replaced with?
8GB. Nice little unit when used by itself. BUT don't even think about connecting to any docks or other third party interfaces 'cause IT AIN"T GONNA WORK RIGHT!
Both of my Pioneer car stereos have the same problem with both of my 6th generation iPod Nanos:
The first time you connect the iPod, the radio recognizes the it and works. BUT THE NEXT TIME YOU TURN THE RADIO ON THE DISPLAY FREEZES. The only way to get it working is to disconnect the dock connector from the iPod and reconnect it. THIS ***** AND IS NOT THE WAY THESE UNITS BEHAVED WITH MY 1ST GENERATION NANO. Both of my new 6th generation ipods have been restored (several times) and have the latest firmware which, as of this writing is 1.2 and still the problem persists.
My two Pioneer car stereos that don't work right with the iPod Nano 6th generation:
Pioneer DEH-P4900iB
CD-i200 iPod cable for above
Scion XB iPod enabled head unit T1808
I've made an AppleCare adviser aware of the problem but I doubt that this information will ever make it to engineering so I don't have much hope that this will ever be fixed.
I would suggest that all 6th generation Nano users check it's compatibility with any third party interfaces they have and report their findings on this discussion board. Perhaps we can get Apple to FIX THIS SERIOUS PROBLEM.
Apple are you listening?? -

Windows recognizes ipod nano (1st generation) but itunes doesn't
I'm a happy owner of ipod nano for about a year. My itunes and ipod nano was working perfectly until few days ago I encountered problems with both of them.
I fixed my itunes (which kept showing an error message when I tried to uninstall/repair it) but after i got that fixed my itunes couldn't detect my ipod nano.
I looked at a directions page in this website and it told me to "press start service" in something. (i forgot what that "something" was)
Whenever I connect my ipod nano to my itunes, the ipod folder & error message about "ipod service module" pops up.
I'm DESPERATE to fix this problem. So please answer my question and thank you. =]
Ipod Nano (1st generation) Windows XP
Ipod Nano (1st generation) Windows XPOne of the services in Windows that has to be on is iPod Service. If that service doesn't stay started, iTunes won't see the iPod.
Go into your services (administrative tools, services) and scroll down until you see it. If the service doesn't say started, right-click on it, choose start. In properties, it should show as automatic.
While I know you already reinstalled iTunes, another reinstall of it might put the service back in the correct mode of starting whenever iTunes needs it. -
IPod nano 1st generation cannot be recognize by iTunes 11.1.3 on macbook
i cannot get my itune recognize my ipod nano 1st generation. And i can't sync it with ituen on my macbook. Pls help
Hello there, lycusfenriz.
It can definitely be frustrating when your having trouble with multiple devices at the same time, but the steps in the article below may help with getting your iPod recognized in iTunes. The following Knowledge Base article offers up some great, in-depth recommendations for troubleshooting an iPod not being recognized in iTunes:
iPod nano (7th generation): Hardware troubleshooting
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4433
Connectivity/syncing
Follow these steps if your computer doesn't recognize your iPod or you have issues with syncing your iPod.
iPod not recognized by iTunes or computer
Make sure you have installed the latest iTunes software from www.itunes.com/downloads. Try connecting to a different USB port on your computer. Your computer needs a USB 2.0 port or a USB 3.0 port to connect iPod nano. If you have a Windows PC that doesn't have a USB 2.0 port, in some cases you can purchase and install a USB 2.0 card.
If iPod nano is connected to a USB hub, try connecting iPod nano directly to your computer's USB port.
iPod nano might need to be reset. Reset iPod by holding down the Sleep/Wake button and Home button until you see the Apple logo appear.
If you're connecting iPod nano to a portable computer using the Lightning Cable, connect the computer to a power outlet before connecting iPod nano.
Check the cable connections. Disconnect the cable at both ends and make sure no foreign objects are in the USB ports. Then reconnect the cable.
Try reinserting the Lightning connector into the iPod. The Lightning connector can be inserted either way.
Try restarting your computer.
If none of these steps resolves the issue, you might need to restore the iPod nano software.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
Cheers,
Pedro. -
What's the best way to replace iPod Nano 1st Generation?
I have two iPod Nano 1st Generations. One from 2005 and one from 2006. The one from 2005 just works when it feels like it. Sometimes it works and most of the time it doesn't. And the one from 2006 recently exploded when it was charging. A silver bag (I'm assuming the battery) expanded and ripped the iPod apart breaking the plastic around the scroller.
Should I use that replacement program (I heard it didn't work for some) or can I just bring them to an Apple Store to replace them?See if either qualifes under the 1G Nano recall.

IPod nano 1st generation doesn't appear in iTunes vers. 9.02 - HELP
Since I upgraded my iTunes to the latest version 9.02, my iPod nano (1st generation) doesn't appear and I cannot synchronize it. Tried to change USB port, no result. Tried to uninstall iTunes and install earlier version 8.2 for Windows XP, but it won't open, saying that "the iTunes Library.itl cannot be read as it was created in a more recent iTunes version". What am I to do if I want to keep using my old nano?
Desperate SapiappleI am having a similar problem. Dusted off my daughters old nano to take to the beach. Tried setting it up on the old lap top I am taking with me and I could not get it working. After hours of diagnostics and troubleshooting matrixs it seems that I did not have drivers. Apple's troubleshooting says go to microsoft, MS's says go to apple for the drivers. Shows up as a faulted device. Did the updates to the USB drivers, etc. Put the player in disk mode (still would not recognize) My laptop says yes I have an I pod but it cant find the drivers to install it My other old laptop running old I Tune software seems to have no problem. I thought it was my problem I was wasting a
Sunday on, now I am thinking that this is a problem with this latest version of I tunes. -
I've been trying to find a belt clip for the ipod nano 7th generation player, any suggestions?? thank you for your time. bill

IPod nano (1st generation) Replacement Program
Hello,
Back in 2012 I requested a replacement via the iPod nano (1st generation) Replacement Program. Apple sent a return envelope but I ended up damaging it by opening the packet with scissors (d’oh!).
I’ve just remembered about the programme and tried to request a replacement again online, but get the following error message ‘This serial number has already been submitted for this program.’
Is there a way of contacting Apple via email (rather than phone), or is there another way for me to make the request again?
Many thanksYou will have to call them unless they provided you with an email during your first request.

HT1339 Ipod Nano 1st Generation Question
I have an Ipod Nano 1st Generation. It was initially set up on my old Mac G4. The power supply on my G4 crashed so now I have a Mac G5. My problem is that when I plug my Ipod into my Mac, I can see and listen to all my songs from my Ipod, but can't download them to the computer. However, I can click & drag songs from my computer to my Ipod. Since I lost my whole Itunes library when my other computer crashed, I really want this library from my Ipod uploaded into my computer. How can I fix this? Also, I want to download my Ipod songs to my new Iphone 4 and I think I need to have them downloaded to the computer to do that. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
It's not really a "fix," since iTunes works that way by design. Your iPod was set on your old Mac to Manually manage music, so it was not "synced" to your previous iTunes library. That is why you can connect it to your new Mac and manually add more songs to it. (If it was set for automatic syncing to your old library, you would not be able to add new songs from a different library without replacing the iPod's existing content.)
iTunes generally works in one direction, from computer to iPod, whether it is set to sync automatically or load manually. You cannot use iTunes to transfer song files from iPod to Mac, except for songs purchased from the iTunes Store. However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer from iPod to Mac. If you do a Google search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.
Once the song files are on your Mac, you can add them to your iTunes library. Then, you can set up syncing for both the old iPod and iPhone 4, from your "consolidated" iTunes library.
Edit: Actually, that last bit may be a problem, because I don't think you can use an iPhone 4 with a PowerPC iMac, if your iMac is actually a "G5." -
I have been given an iPod nano 1st generation I wish to completely wipe it clean and put new music into it. I cannot manage to do it any help would be great
Hi Bevella,
I understand that you were given a 1st generation iPod nano and you would like to completely erase it so you can start clean and sync your own music on to it. The process you want to run is called a restore. The following link is the iPod nano Features Guide that explains the restore process with steps. The restore section is on pages 50 and 51.
iPod nano
Features Guide

Updating and Restoring iPod Software
You can use iPod Updater to update or restore your iPod software. Apple periodically updates iPod software to improve performance or add features. It is recommended that you update your iPod nano to use the latest software. You can also restore the software, which puts iPod nano back in its original state.
If you choose to update, the software is updated, but your settings and songs are not affected.
If you choose to restore, all data is erased from your iPod nano, including songs, files, contacts, photos, calendar information, and any other data. All iPod nano settings are restored to their original state.
To update or restore iPod nano with the latest software:
Go to www.apple.com/support/ipod and download the latest iPod Update. The update has the latest software for all models of iPod.
Double-click the software installation file and follow the onscreen instructions to install the iPod update.
Connect iPod nano to your computer and open iTunes. The iPod Updater application opens. If you’re using a Windows PC and the iPod Updater application doesn’t open automatically, you can find the updater by choosing Start > All Programs > iPod.
Follow the onscreen instructions to update or restore iPod software.
Thanks for reaching out,
