TimeCapsule 2.4ghz connection VERY slow

For the past several days, any connection to the 2.4Ghz radio on my TC is very slow.  Speedtest.net shows .29Mbps download and .34Mbps upload (yes, note the decimal place!).  If I switch over to the 5Ghz radio, my speeds increase to 16.03Mbps download and 4.19Mbps upload.  Also, when connected to the 5Ghz radio, my laptop is showing a full 4 bars of strength, whereas when connect to 2.4 radio, I am only getting 1-2 bars from the same location.
The TC is connected to my Comcast cable modem - wired connections through the TC are getting 30+Mbps downloads.
I have tried restarting TC, restarting the cable modem, rebooting client machines...
Ideas?  is my 2.4Ghz radio dying?

Chances are, your router is just fine and you are picking up some interference on the overcrowded 2.4 GHz band from a cordless phone, other neraby wireless network, or a wireless camera/security system.
I used to have intermittent slow downs and drop outs on my old 2.4 GHz router and never could figure out why. One day at my desk, by accident I noticed my neighbor coming out of his front door talking on his cordless phone wihen my wireless suddenly slowed. When he got to his mailbox on the street, the wireless was down to a crawl.
So, the source of the interference may not necessarily be in your home, although if you have any cordless phones, that would be the first thing to investigate. For more info on the epidemic problem of wireless interference, you might want to look over this document:

  • Wireless N connection very slow

I was running my wireless router at home (internet through Comcast) in mixed mode (b/g/n), and noticed that my S3's download speed when on the wireless seemed very slow. I confirmed this using speedtest.net (the android app) and saw a very big difference between the S3 on the wireless router and my laptop. I tested my wife's laptop and S3 as well, with the same results. (The laptops consistently got 20Mbps down while the S3s both got around 1.8Mpbs down.) The 4g LTE speeds were incredible, but since I'm on a data cap now, I can't use that for the majority of what I want to do with the phone.
After some testing, I found that if I disabled N altogether on my router, our S3s connect and get the same speeds as our laptops. Now my router runs only in 2.4Ghz band, and I have not had a chance to test my N connection on a 5Ghz band. For whatever reason, the Verizon version of the S3 does not have a setting where you can tell the phone what band to connect to, but from what I've read it only connects at 2.4. I'm going to try some more testing to see if this is in fact the case or not.
Anywho, I'm now getting good download speeds connecting in mode G, but I'm kind of bummed that Verizon has (surprise surprise) limited the phone in this way. AT&T and Sprint customers I've talked to are able to connect to Wireless N, and though some of them have problems if the band is set in auto mode, if they specifically choose the band their router is running in, it works just fine. Don't get me wrong, I choose to be with Verizon and generally am happy with the service (losing unlimited data notwithstanding), but I just don't understand why they took away the ability to control the wireless connection in this way. Its doesn't make sense.

First of all, the speeds you are quoting all sound like Mbps (megabits per second) connection speeds, not data throughput speeds.  You really need to measure your actual download speed to tell what is actually going on with your system.
Use speedtest.net and test your system.  Turn off all other computers except the test computer.  Test under the following conditions:
    1)  connect one computer, by wire, directly to your modem
    2)  connect the same computer, by wire, directly to your router
    3)  connect the same computer wireless to your router
    4)  connect your other computers, wirelessly to the router, one at a time
Also, state the speed that you are paying your ISP for.
Report your download and upload speeds for all of the above tests.
Note that the speed that you are paying for should be about the same as your results from test 1 and 2 above.
After you have done these tests, it will be much easier to tell where the problem is.

  • Adobe Photoshop CC2014 internet connection very slow

    Hi,
I'm developing an Adobe Photoshop HTML5 (website) extension. This is working fine in Photoshop CC, but is very slow in CC2014.
Today I've installed an update for Photoshop CC2014 and I was presented with an 'introduction' screen, loaded from the web.
This had the same slowness, indicating my extension is not at fault.
The regular functionality of Photoshop has a normal speed, and I'm working on a recent computer with Win 7 64bit.
I've recorded a video showing how slow it really is (and proof that my internet connection has sufficient speed)
    http://videobam.com/gmNun
    How can I solve this?
    Thanks!
    Sam

  • Lumia 920 Facebook connection very slow over WiFi ...

Since the Portico update the connection to Facebook both in the People and Me hub as well as in the Facebook app is very slow over WiFi, whilst still good over 4G/LTE (with WiFi off). The connection to the Nokia account also appears to have a similar problem. All other accounts and apps have good speed over both cellular and WiFi connections.
    Any ideas anybody?
PS: FYI, a bit more info about the history and context: When I noticed the problem the first time after the update, I tried to solve it by deleting and re-adding my Facebook account on the phone. Unfortunately, that made me lose my Me hub tile, so I decided to do a full reset. That again unfortunately got stuck on the togg wheels, so I restored the phone using Nokia Care Suite with the latest firmware, and restored my accounts, apps and settings from scratch. Everythings seems to work fine now, except the above mentioned Facebook and Nokia account connectivity problem.

Did you somehow solve this problem?
I have the same issue here with my Lumia 920.
However I have already found out that it only applies to my home Wifi. All other Wifi networks i was connecting to did work flawlesly.
I need to note that all other devices on my home network are using facebook without a glitch. Only Lumia has some problems with it.

  • 2.4GHZ clients very slow speeds with AP3600

    5508 WLC (7.5.102)
    AP36021
We currently have a test WiFi SSID setup that uses basic mac filtering on our WLC's
WLAN is configured with WPA and WPA2 L2 Security with WPA Policy and WPA2 Encryption.
For some reason we seem to be getting very slow speeds on clients with 2.4GHZ
for example speedtest.net I get 70mg upload and 65mg download on 5GHZ devices and about 1-3mg download and 1mg upload for 2.4GZ devices!
    AP36021 are dual band with 4 channels (2 x 2.4Ghz and 2 x 5Ghz)
fyi - There are no dropped packets on the client stats via Prime mgmt that use 2.4GHZ
    Any ideas here?

  • Network connection very slow, lot of drops

    Hello!
On my network, there's an ADSL modem; an AirPort Extreme is connected to it and all my computers are connected to that AirPort Extreme.
Initially, I had set the AirPort Extreme as a bridge and the modem was in PPPoE. However, I had weird troubles with that setup (one computer couldn't reach another one, not even ping) so I made the other way around: the modem is now in bridge mode and the AirPort Extreme handles the PPPoE connection.
Since then (at least, I guess), downloading from the Internet or simply browsing is a nightmare. Connections would start at a varying low rate (always less than 30 KB/s, sometimes 5 KB/s) and always slow down until the connection drops completely. For small files, I can hope to download a 1 MB file in 40 minutes; for larger ones, it's hopeless.
I've tried to rule out the AirPort Extreme, connecting one computer directly to the modem. I reset the modem (since it's in bridge mode and it's beyond the subnet made from the AirPort Extreme, how can I reach it from my network?) and enter my ISP data. When all the lights on the modem are fine, it tells me some tests failed; I can't connect to the Internet that way. It looks like the modem lost its ability to connect as PPPoE when I defined it as a bridge (?).
I then tried to rule out the modem. I connected my computer and the ADSL line to the AirPort Extreme (which still had the PPPoE settings); the AirPort Extreme would not connect or reach a DNS (what's the purpose of having PPPoE settings if it can't connect to the Internet without even passing by a modem in bridge mode?).
In short, I can't rule out either the modem nor the AirPort Extreme, because they both can't connect to the Internet separately (the modem could before I inverted which device is in bridge mode). After all my attempts, the only way to get Internet back is to set the modem again as a bridge and use the AirPort Extreme for the PPPoE, which makes the whole problem of a very slow connection (even unusable) that I'm trying to repair. I'm lost at that point.
Any help would be really welcome!

    Bob Timmons wrote:
    Two possibilities:
    1) The modem is not working correctly and should be replaced
If that's the case, then I'm feeling guilty, as it worked before I set it as a bridge.
    2) Your log in information has changed due to service provider updates. Contact your provider to verify your account details
It's actually my mother who created that account; I'll ask her further.
    my native language isn't English
    But, your English is excellent.
    Thank you.
Some countries use PPPoA authentication, and not PPPoE.  Although they are similar, if your provider really uses PPPoA credentials, then you cannot log on from your Mac or use the AirPort router to provide the log on authorization, since Apple does not support PPPoA.
Well, I tried using PPPoA recently and it wasn't better. Also, the fact that the AirPort is currently the one making the PPPoE authentication seems to definitively indicate it's not PPPoA (thanks to your information that it wouldn't work in that case).
Generally, my opinion would be that things will work better if you use the modem or a modem/router to provide the connection service and run the AirPort in Bridge Mode.....rather than trying to put the modem in Bridge Mode and use the AirPort to provide the connection service.
Yes, I agree. Actually, I had another problem with the previous setup (AirPort as bridge and modem for PPPoE) where, on my LAN with two computers, only one could reach the other one (the connection worked in one direction only); I couldn't even use file sharing, Remote Desktop or even ping (because, even trying from the working sense, the response would often not come back). In this Apple forum, I got the suggestion to exchange which device was in bridge mode and, indeed, now I can communicate from and to all computers. Since I've realised my connection to the Internet is now mostly broken, I should have been satisfied with the previous problem…
I'm hoping to go back to an Internet connection that works, and not get the first issue of computers not being reachable on the LAN. The big trouble here is that all these behaviours I've experienced are weird (am I outside of the logic with my use of the devices?). I'm also noticing that the first problem sounds to have arrived since I replaced my old router by the AirPort Extreme.
If your modem is 4-5 years old, then that might be another reason to consider replacing it.  Ask your provider what they would recommend.
Wow, mine is actually way older than that! I don't think we've ever changed it since we had an Internet connection (around 1998). At this time, things were not designed to break too soon, right?
Perhaps it had to break with this duration of use, and it just waited that I change settings to break… Doesn't sound a likely scenario, however.
I'm considering trying with my neighbour's modem (with his connection's settings), with the AirPort in bridge mode. If it works, I'll be almost certain the problem is the modem, I'm right?
Thank you very much for your help so far; things are getting clearer!

  • Wireless Internet connection very slow

The wireless connection has gotten very slow. I have restarted the modem but that has not improved the connection. I am about to restart the TC and see if that improves the connection. What is the best way to shut the TC down and restart it? The only way I know is to unplug for 15 seconds and then put the plug back in.
    Thanks

    Try the following ...
o Power-down the modem, Time Capsule (TC), and computer(s); wait at least 10-15 minutes. Order is not critical.
o Power-on the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes.
o Plug-in the TC; wait at least 5-10 minutes.
    o Power-on the computer(s).

  • Internet connection very slow - ISP blames my computer...

    Greetings,
I have DSL connection that has been running very very slow... dialup slow... I use airport, so I unplugged it and connected the ethernet cable directly to the comp - with no results.
I called my ISP, they tested the modem speed, reset the modem & went through all the settings - with no results. The modem speed is fine, so they say the problem is with my powerbook. I've rebooted the computer numerous times, also I recently cleaned up my hard drive (which has been full for months) and I currently have 14gb of free space.
What else can I do? Are there any diagnostic utilities/etc you can recommend?
Thank you in advance for all your help.
    powerbook g4 Mac OS X (10.3.9)

You actually are close enough to their 3meg down that you can't complain. 2.8meg down and 700kb up is fine, unless it's supposed to be their FIOS that is.
Sounds like it is the site(s) that are slow, like these boards at times.

  • Internet Connection very slow WRT160N v3

I had my an IT person install a brand new WRT160N router.  I also installed a new HP wireless printer/scanner/fax/printer. I am now noticing that the internet connection is very slow. Taking about 4 minutes to download any link or site I visit. I have talked to charter today and they are telling me my signal strength is great - I have highest speed they offer (20). What am I not doing right? Do i need to check this router or a connection? - Allison

Physical connection should be like from modem to the router on internet port and from computer to the routrer on ethernet port 1.
Try to readjust the wireless settings on your router....
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop). In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1 and press Enter...Leave Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
For Wireless Settings, please do the following : -
    Click on the Wireless tab
    - Here select manual configuration...Wireless Network mode should be mixed...
    - Provide a unique name in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) box in order to differentiate your network from your neighbours network...
    - Set the Radio Band to Standard-20MHz and change the Standard channel to 11-2.462GHz...Wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on Save Settings...
Please make a note of Wireless Network Name (SSID) as this is the Network Identifier...
    For Wireless Security : -
Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security...
Change the Wireless security mode to WEP, Encryption should be 64 bit.Leave the passphrase blank, don't type in anything...Under WEP Key 1 type in any 10 numbers please(numbers only and no letters eg: your 10 digit phone number) and click on save settings...
Please make a note of WEP Key 1 as this is the Security Key for the Wireless Network...
    Click on Advanced Wireless Settings
Change the Beacon Interval to 75 >>Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304, Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 >>Click on "Save Settings"...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...

  • IMac connection very slow via airport

I hope some of you on the forum can help me as I'm rather puzzled. My internet has always been running at a good speed ,20mbs real time 12-17mbs. Before christmas I experienced a dip in the speed. I thought it was the ISP and contacted them. It turn out that there was a fault in the area. That should naw have been fixed and running speed tests on my macbook pro's proved that correct. I'm now getting the full 20mbs. How ever the iMac is painstakingly slow on the network and when going on the internet. speedtest.net gives me a >1mbs on downloads and > .5mbs. My 17" macbook pro which is placed next to the iMac in the office upstairs is running full tilt 20mbs download and <2mbs upload. This is very frustrating as I can't understand why the difference can be so big. I've restarted router, modem, iMac. Reinstall of Snow Leopard (Clean) repaired permissions, HDD. Have i got something wrong with the airport, spyware/virus (don't see that being the case) If any one of you guys/girls has any idea's solution please let me know.
    Tom

I think I'm having a similar problem. I have a late 2006 24-iMac C2D 2.4 and it is has very slow internet access. I understand that there is so many variables but I have another iMac (same model) and a late 2009 Macbook Pro and they have no problems. I've had the internet connection tested and it is working fine.
I can't figure out what the problem is.
Likewise, I've done the same things: reset airport, modem, moved computer, and reinstalled OSX.
    I have no antivirus software.

  • IOS7 on iPhone 4s: Since I have iOS7, my 4s connects very slow (or not at all) to a known Wi-Fi access point (e.g. at home). This this a bug?

Since I have installed iOS7 on my iPhone 4s - 16G, my 4s connects very slowly to my home Wi-Fi network. Sometimes it even doesn't connects at all. Which result in a higher mobile data usage (and thus higher bill at the end of the month).
Can this error be solved in iOS 7.0.4?

    Hi masterwil,

  • How to clear cookies, wireless internet connection very slow

My ethernet speed is very good, but my wireless speed is getting very slow.  I wanted to clear my cookies, not sure how to do that and would that help?

Hold down the option key and select the Wi-Fi menu in the menu bar. What values are shown for the following?
              PHY Mode
              Channel
              Security
              Signal/Noise or RSSI
              Transmit (or Tx) Rate
Please do not post the BSSID, as that information is private.
Now hold down the option key again and select
               ▹ System Information... ▹ Network ▹ Wi-Fi
Compare the two-letter Country Code with the ISO code for your country. Does it match? The code X0 means that the country couldn't be determined. The code X3 means South America, not otherwise specified.

  • My iPad will connect to the Internet but my iMac keeps dropping the connection or connects very slow.

My iPad is working fine and connecting to the internet no problem. My iMac computer, when I check the system preferences and I go into network it says my network is working fine and I appear to be connected to the Internet, yet when I going try to go on safari it won't let me connect to the Internet or if it does the connection is slow. When I do manage to connect to the internet, the connection drops quickly. What do I do?

Please answer as many of the following questions as you can.
Are all network applications slow, or only some? If only some, which ones?
Is networking always slow, or only sometimes?
