TimeCapsule won't let me type password for "delete all backups of..."

I've been using this TimeCapsule/TimeMachine for a couple years. I'm trying to open up some space. So I just excluded a couple folders from being backed up. Now I'd like to dump the old backups of those folders. So I go into TimeMachine, go to latest backup (not "Now/Today"), click on folder, hit "Delete all backups of..." from the action/gear menu, and it warns me that it can't be undone. Then it prompts me for admin name/password, but it won't let my type in the password!
It will let me hit the OK button (at which point it says it's a bad password), or hit the Cancel button to cancel, but it won't let me type anything. (Not into the Name field either, though that doesn't matter since it's prefilled with the correct name.)

See #E4 of Time Machine - Troubleshooting.
Mixing Time Machine backups and other data on a TC's internal HD usually leads to problems, as you've seen. See #Q3 in  Using Time Machine with a Time Capsule for details and some possible workarounds.

I have a new mac and want to sync my phone to the iTunes on it, but it won't let me manually manage without deleting all music on the phone already from another iTunes. is there a way around this?

    The best solution:
iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
Quick answer if you let iTunes manage your music:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Start iTunes with the option (shift on Windows) key held down and guide it to the new location of the library.
An alternative which is really not what you should have to do, or the way it is intended to be done, if you properly manage your computer and backups:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only media purchased from iTunes Store
Sync transfer is one way, computer to device, matching the device content to the content on the computer (except purchased content as mentioned above).  For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will probably have to use third party commercial software unless you have an older model iPod. Examples (check the web for others; this is not an exhaustive listing, nor do I have any idea if they are any good):

Do not regard your i-device as a reliable unique storage for your media. It is not a backup device and everything is structured around you maintaining your media on a computer which is itself backed up.

  • After installing Mountain Lion, mac won't let me type password to log in.

I installed mountain lion about 6 days ago and whenever i startup my computer it is really slow. Then when i go to type in my password nothing will type and i cant use the trackpad either. To be able to log in, I have to sleep my imac and then retry and then usually it will let my type. It is also really slow when i am running more than 1 program at once. Any solutions?

Are you clicking the password field or just tapping? Tapping does not work in the login screen.

  • Can't export AIR Release-Build -- won't let me enter password for Cert.

I have a certificate for my AIR app, and since upgrading to Flash Builder 4.7, I cannot export a release-build of this app...  I go to Project | Properties | Flex Build Packaging and select the certificate, click OK and it never asks me for the password.  Then when I click Project | Export Release Build, I'm selecting the "Signed AIR Package" option, and it tries to compile it but then gives me an "Incorrect Password for this Certificate" error...  But it never even let me enter the password...  So what do I do?
    Thanks,
    L.

So, I just created a whole brand-new AIR project.  Just a simple thing with a <s:TextArea> in it.  I can't export a release build on that project, either.
When you're on the initial screen you see after you select Project | Export Release Build, you fill in the folder where you want it to be exported and select which "Export As" option you want -- it's not supposed to jump immediately to compiling when you click "Next" is it?  "Finish" is grayed-out, so I would imagine there's another window that's supposed to pop up after I click "Next."  But it jumps straight to compiling when I click "Next," so I don't ever get a chance to even look at the certificate or enter a password for it...   How do I get it to stop jumping straight to compiling?

  • Terminal won't let me type my password

    Hiya,
Don't know anything about Terminal. I'm trying to set my computer up for remote printing to use at my university library. Using my IT services webpage, I copied and pasted a text string into the window as instructed. I got this:
We trust you have received the usual lecture from the local System
Administrator. It usually boils down to these three things:
#1) Respect the privacy of others.
    #2) Think before you type.
#3) With great power comes great responsibility.
    Password:
So what I think that means is that whatever I was supposed to enter there was fine. The problem is that it's won't let me type my password. I tried typing all different kinds of characters, and nothing happens- there's just a dark grey box after the colon. If I hit return, it says "sorry, password incorrect" or something.
My computer is a two-year-old iBook G4 running some kind of OS X, if that matters. Sorry, I feel like this is probably really obvious, but I'm at a loss.
    Thanks,
    Kate
    iBook G4

When you are prompted for your password in Terminal nothing will be echoed to the screen when you type your password... no characters, no dots, the cursor won't move... that's normal... it's a security safeguard.
Just type your password and press the return key.
However, you must be logged into your computer with an account that has administrator privileges. And it's asking for the password of the account you're logged in to.

  • My mac won't let me type in my password. Please help

My mac won't let me type in my password when I am required to do so to update any software or to unlock system preferences. When I click the lock to unlock in system preferences a box comes up asking me to type my password, however when I type nothing is written in the box. Please help

Try a device reset. If that doesn't help, you should take your device to an Apple Store for a free evaluation.
    Device Reset (won't affect settings/data/music/apps/etc)
    1. Press and hold (& continue to hold) BOTH the Sleep/Wake button & the Home button.
    2. Continue to hold BOTH (ignoring any other messages that may show) until you see the Apple logo on the screen.
    3. Release BOTH buttons when you see the Apple logo and allow the device to boot normally.

  • I'm trying to create an address spread sheet for my wedding invites and won't let me type zip codes that start w a zero "02904" it just automatically drops it "2904" how do u fix that?

I'm trying to create an address spread sheet for my wedding invites and won't let me type zip codes that start w a zero "02904" it just automatically drops it "2904" how do u fix that?

The easiest fix is to format the receiving column as Text prior to making your entries.
Another way is to format as "Numeral System", Base: 10, Places: 5. This doesn't work so well if you need the 4 extra digits that some people like to use.
It's also possible to create a Custom Format, but it's rather more involved.

  • Skype won't let me type in my password!!!

Whenever I try to log into skype, I keep getting this odd login box, as to the regular one. It won't let me type in my password or even change my username. I've tried to uninstall and re-download numerous amounts of times, but it didn't help. Any ideas?

What you are seeing now is the new login window introduced with Skype 5.5. The new login procedure requires that a functioning Internet Explorer with enabled JavaScript is installed on the computer. You may try with resetting of Advanced and Security settings in IE. You can also do this by applying the Fix It from this Microsoft site:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737
If nothing of this helps, then the following procedure will return the old login screen:
Quit Skype. Make sure that you don’t see any Skype.exe processes in Windows Task Manager. If necessary, then stop these processes. Open C:\Program Files\ folder. If you have 64-bit Windows then it should be C:\Program Files (x86)\ folder. Find the Skype folder and then Phone. Right click on the Skype.exe file and select: Send to – Desktop (create shortcut). Right click on the newly created shortcut and select the Shortcut tab. In the Target field you will see now: "C:\Program Files\Skype\Phone\Skype.exe" (or with (x86) if you are on 64-bit Windows). Click with your mouse on the text in the Target field and move your curser one space after the last quotation sign and add the text /legacylogin. The text in the Target field should now read:
    "C:\Program Files\Skype\Phone\Skype.exe" /legacylogin
Click OK to save the changes. Start Skype using this new shortcut. Can you now login to Skype?

  • I have an old apple id that I don't use (and I don't remember the password) and it now won't let me log in for updates, how can I delete it

I have an old apple id that I don't use (and I don't remember the password) and it now won't let me log in for updates, how can I delete it

Click here and try resetting that account’s password.
That Apple ID is stored inside each of those applications. If you can’t get back into it, you’ll need to delete and redownload all of them, which may require repurchasing paid ones.

  • HELP?! My iPod touch won't let me type anything!

I just got my ipod touch and finished setting it up and putting all my music on it. I was trying to get on the internet but I have to put in a password for my internet connection. Whenever the keyboard comes up on my iPod it won't let me type anything. It just pops up for a minute and then dissapears! *What's going on??* Can anyone help!

    Where are you physically located?
What country's Store are you using?
The two have to be the same and the payment method for your account also has to be associated (billing address, where iTunes gift card was purchased) with that country.
Has the ID(s) worked before for purchases for this country's store?

My ipad2 won't accept my apple password for new app install. I've tried several time and get a pop up "unknown error". Help?

Sign out of your account, restart the iPad and then sign in again.
Settings>iTunes & App Store>Apple ID. Tap your ID and sign out. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Go back to Settings>iTunes & App Store>Sign in and then try again.

  • MacBook won't let me type anything at all

MacBook won't let me type anything at all. It's running Mac OS X 10.6.8 Snowleopard

You have to understand the difference between an Update and an Upgrade.
An Update is a free change to add to the base code or as a bug fix within an existing Operating System. Such as the .8 added to 10.5.
An Upgrade is a complete new Operating System that must be purchased. Such as 10.5 Leopard to 10.6 Snow Leopard.
10.5 Leopard was written for Power PC Macs with code added to allow it to run on Intel processors.
10.6 Snow Leopard has completely rewritten code and only runs on Intel Macs.
10.7 Lion used some 32 bit which allows it to run on Late 2006 through Early 2008 MacBooks and a lot of 64 bit code.
10.8 Mountain Lion is pure 64 bit, which excludes more systems than Lion did. It can only run on the Late 2008 through Mid 2010 MacBooks. It's not something you can add memory to, for example, as it involves the base architecture.

Iphone 4 won't let me type anywhere?

It is covered in the basics section of the manual:

  • IPhone keyboard won't let me type the word "fixes"

When I try to type the word "fixes", the iPhone (3G, with iPhone OS 2.2) keyboard won't let me type the word "fixes". If I hold down my finger for the last letter, and move it left and right, I can see that it is refusing to allow "S" to be typed. It switches between "A" and "D".
I have seen other examples of this in the past, where the keyboard simply refuses to type some letters, but never on a common English word before.
Has anyone found a way around this, other than accepting the wrong letter, backspacing, and re-typing?
    Cheers,
    Will.

All this time, I thought it was me...I couldn't for the life of me type my daughter's name, Caitlin, into the phone. I would always get C-A-I-R-L-I-N. Again, thought it was just me not being able to hit that key right, though I don't really have a problem with anything else. Then this weekend, I finally tried to force the phone to type it right by trying to slide my finger to the "T", and it was completely skipped over. I went back and forth from "R" to "Y" several times. Nope, the "T" refused to be typed. Now that I know it's a confirmed bug, I feel a little bit better about my iPhone typing skills.
