Timecode problem in capture window

I don't know if it has anything to do again with JVC GY HD format, but I found  that the timecode of the captured material on tape goes different then in the capture window. I'm recordin HDV 720p50 and on one hand when capturing a 10 min video, it shows me in the upper part of the capture window that it arrived at 20 min, on the other hand when I go frame by from forward in capture window tape control, on the tape it goes 2 frames at a time... even if in the lower left corner of the capture window it shows the right timecode (as on tape) it conts 25 frames for one second, skipping every second frame. I don't know if it has something to do with failing scene detection, but I feel it's normal that it can't do it if it doesn't count right the frames...
Another problem I found in the source window. when I put the captured video there it starts the timecode at 08:06:40:00 insted of 00:00:00:00 but at least it shows 50 frames per second...
Why isn't Adobe able to manage properly a 720p50 capture?????????????????

Is there any idea???????????

  • Unable to locate timecode in batch capture

Hi there, I have been working on this problem for a while and would really appreciate some help.
I have a documentary project I have been working on for some time and have completed the EDL. I am now trying to batch capture the footage again in full res and am having problems with a couple of the tapes.
    First the specs:
The video was shot on a Sony HDR-HC1 in HDV(1080) mode.
I am using this camera to capture the footage.
I am trying to recapture the footage in a sequence with the easy setting on HDV1080i50.
I had originally captured the footage in SD on an older version of final cut pro (I am now working with FCP6) and didn't realise that my 16:9 footage was actually all 4:3 letterboxed. To fix this problem I used the media manager to export and then in the new project batch capture all the footage again from the tape. The project uses 18 tapes, 16 of which were batch digitised with only minor troubleshooting required. However 2 of the tapes are proving to be very problematic. It seems that whatever clip I select on the tape it gives me a message saying "unable to locate timecode".
I have tried setting the tape to the exact location of the clip before selecting the batch capture, but the computer always seems to look for a spot which is 2-3 mins out of sync with the clip. For example, if the in point is 00:10:00:00 the computer will roll the tape to around the 00:12:00:00 mark and start jogging around there for about 30 seconds until eventually giving me the "unable to locate timecode" message. Looking in the information in the bins, the in and out points are accurate, its just that when I try to capture, the computer rolls the tape to the wrong position.
If anyone knows a workaround for this that will help me avoid having to edit the footage all over again I will be extremely grateful.
    Thanks
    Liam

HI I have the same problem, the capture window says: Waiting for time code, the device must set in vcr mode and then This operation could not be complete as there is no video, the F!#!%$$ problem is very illogical ,at this mooring I do batch capture without a problem but since the second tape this problem starting, I update to FCP 6.0.4 and,. @@#%#@%#$ the first tape capture but the second not capture and the problem starting againd, note that IMOVIE capture the tape and work very well, iI replace fire wire, camera VCR and , I trayu with Canon, Sony, JVC and the problem persist , I have quicktime 7.4.5, FCO 6.0.4, note that I have two Macs with the same problem in both macs IMOVIE work like a PRO edition Software but FCP is very bad, I have with this problem a long time, I formated Mac, reinstall FCS2 many timers and the problem persist. IS not a problem whit easy setup or wherever , I download the FireWire SDK from Apple and test all connection with the applications of sdk and in all case , the camera and the fire wire are OK, the problem is with quicktime and FCP, If any one is working OK with FCP and DV NTSC devices and JVC PRO HD devices, please tell us HOW DO. I'm working with FCP since 2000 and in this month FCP makes me very UNHAPPY.

  • Timecode problems with DV-NTSC

This is too weird! I've been editing for years in FCP 5.1.4 and now all of a sudden, I'm having timecode problems when capturing DV. I've tried my dual G5 running OS 10.4.11 and my Mac Book Pro Intel dual running 10.5.6. I tried both of my cams (Sony & Canon), different tapes and firewire cables, no go. I went onto Apple's support and per their instructions removed the Library/Receipts/QT version resources, downloaded QT again, no luck. I just got through capturing and editing a HD DV with no problems, but regular DV won't work now. Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Henrik

    Exactly which version of QT?

  • PROBLEMS SETTING MASTER GAIN IN CAPTURE WINDOW

I am having problems capturing audio at optimum levels.
In other words my audio levels in my log and capture window
do not match the output of my tape (bars and tone).
    To be more specific:
I am capturing from a Sony Beta deck (BetaCam SP).
The tape has Bars and Tone. I am running the audio signal through
my Mackie CR1604 audio mixer in order to control levels going into FCP.
The signal goes out from the 1604 into my AjA IO then out of AjA IO into
my MacG5 via the Fire Wire connection.
I have the Mackie levels set at 0 (zero unity gain) just below the
point of clipping using the tone from the Beta Tape.
My first thought was to boost the input in FCP using the Master Gain
setting in the log and capture / clip settings tab.
My problem was that the meters in my capture window (clip settings tab)
were greyed out. Well I found a way to access them by changing
my settingsby way of the following path:
Audio Video Settings / Capture Presets / Preset Editor. In the Preset Editor
I changed the QuickTime Audio settings device from Pro IO (AjA Io) to
Built-In audio. This allows access to the Master Gain slider in the log and
    capture window.
No good...I can not get the audio levels in the capture window to match
the levels on my Mackie 1604. They should match.
(they are way too low and the Master Gain slider is maxed out)
    Please help!!!!!
Michael Kraus / mak design co.

I need the Mackie 1604 mixer to boost or lower audio levels.
Lets say I have a Beta tape (or any tape/media) with bars and tone set to Zero db.
Thats great BUT what if the videographer had some areas in the tape
where levels were too high / hot or too low. The Mackie allows me to
    boost or lower levels.
As for the headache of re-digitize/ re-capture....I see your point but it is usually
not a big problem. Especially since most of my tapes have tone at the head
of the tape set at zero db for me to "calibrate" to. The audio on the remainder
of the tape does not surpass zero db most of the the time (in a perfect world).
There are some times where the world is not so perfect and I need to
    adjust levels.
My problem is that the levels out of the Mackie output and the levels
of the FCP / AjA IO input are different enough for there to be some concern.
I am in a sense doing what you are doing on the deck using the Mackie.
This is the way I always went about things when I ran my Avid video editor
and never had a problem. I am certain there are many people using the same
    approach.
The bottom line is there is some kind of drop off in levels going into FCP via
    the AjA IO.
    I appreciate your input...Thank you!
Let me know if you have any other ideas.

  • "Unable to capture window image"

if I select a window to be screenshot, I get this error:
Your screen shot can’t be saved.
    Unable to capture window image.
    (shortcut: cmd-shift-4 and then space)
It seems to be new in Lion. Never had that problem before. And regular screenshots seem to work fine (cmd-shift-3).
Thanks for any help! ~ Kai

    Thanks Davide ...
I created com.apple.screencapture.plist with Terminal and restarted the Mac.
The first couple of window screenshots worked on a Chrome browser window (command-shift-4, then space bar). But it did not work on other app's windows (Finder, Carousel).
Then I switched back to Chrome and I didn't work there too anymore. Crazy thing is that now it works on Finder windows. Very very strange.
All this is only true for capturing a whole window content (command-shift-4, then space bar)

  • What is the size of capture window for MX440-VTD8X?

I am trying to figure out how best to resize video I have captured with my MX440-VTD8X. For the application I am using (AVISynth) I need to calculate the PAR (Pixel Aspect Ratio), for this I need to know the size of the capture window for my video capture card.
I think that this card uses a Philps SAA-7114H, although I cannot be certain as MSI don't seem to publish this fact anywhere. (I found a few references to the 7114 via Google so that is the best lead I have had so far).
Anyway, even if I knew it used a 7114H that doesn't much help as I can't find any published data that tells me what the capture window (in microseconds) is for this card. The WDM driver might modify the window so how, so I can't just look it up in the datasheet for the 7114H.
I am looking for figures for the capture window for both PAL and NTSC,
    could someone please help?
    many thanks,
    Kevin

To quote from the article I have been using which gives step-by-step instructions on how to calculate to aspect ratio ..
(Pixel Aspect Ratio, Source Aspect Ratio and Target Aspect Ratio)
"To determine your source PAR, you first have to know what the aspect ratio of the capture window of your capture device is. This capture window is fixed, but again it is rarely exactly 4:3. The device always digitizes the same area of your video and resizes it to the size you set in your capture application. The raw captured height is always 480 lines for NTSC and 576 for PAL. The width of the capture window has to be determined. A table with known values (and a more elaborate explanation) can be found in section 5.4. A method for determining this value yourself can be found in chapter 11.
Once you know the capture window width, the Image Aspect Ratio of your device can be calculated as:
    PAL IAR = (4 / 3) * ([window width in µs] / 52.0 µs) / (576/576)
    NTSC IAR = (4 / 3) * ([window width in µs] / 52.6555 µs) / (480/486) "
The 'window width' is given for some capture cards in the guide, but unfortunately not the MSI one I am using, and the 'window width' does vary from one type of capture card to another.
Without this information I am at a brick wall. There is a method to determine the window by using a PAL DVD player as the source video, playing some test image, the problem is that I only have an NTSC DVD player so I can't use that technique,
this is something that the manufacturer must know, but unfortunately they rarely publish it,

  • Preview doesn't show up in the capture window

When trying to capture, the video preview doesn't show up in the capture window, only the color bars. I am able to run my transport with the buttons and the key commands, so I know the Canon ZR500 is really communicating (easy setup: DV-NTSC), via firewire. My scratch disk is a G-Raid hooked up through the firwire 800 input. The crazy thing is, it worked only one time. I've wasted one whole day and this morning, restarting, rebooting, unplugging, different tapes, etc. Next step is takew my entire setup to the so-called Genius Bart and see if Apple's Geniuses know anything about Apple software. Frustrating as ****. I will never buy Apple again.

Careful about editorializing. There are lots & lots of Mac users who are successfully capturing from Canon camcorders. I am one of them, and have never had a problem. So there is something in your setup that needs to be uncovered, it's not FCE or Canon per se.
One observation, you have a small hard drive (100GB) and even though you appear to have 59GB free, that's actually not a lot of space. One hour of DV consumes about 13GB and during capture the Mac temporarily needs nearly 2x that space, which means your system is using the 'inner' cylinders of the hard drive, where performance slows down; this could explain your dropped frames problem. Can you move some stuff off your system HD onto your G-RAID (say, your iPhoto and iTunes libraries if you are using those apps, they often take a lot of disk space)?

  • Capture window always uses the wrong name-

Hello everyone, I'm having this problem… when I go to capture HDV footage the Capture Window always remembers the name of the LAST clip I captured, when I change it and do all my capturing I find out that all my clips (and with HDV that can be a lot) have still retained the wrong name (in the browser and on my scratch disk). I tried trashing preferences and it works for the first time and goes back to this. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!
Also I am using someone else's computer which is a G4 (not my macbook listed below).

  • Sync problem during capture

Hello, if anyone can solve this for me I owe them a large beer.
I have FCE 3.0 which has been working fine for the past year, but recently every tape i capture has serious audio sync problems. initally i thought it was the camera, but i have 2 and the problem occurred from both, then i thought it was the tape so i tried various tapes including ones that had previously worked, but the problem persisted. Then i thought it might be the cable, but the tapes import fine into i-movie, so it can't be that. I checked the capture settings - has always been and still is 48 pal - i've always use the same cameras (canon xm2s).
The problem is that the video freezes every 31 seconds for about 28 frames, but the audio doesn't, so that you get a sync problem that increases as the clip progresses. you can see the video actually freezing in the capture window, although it plays back fine in the camera (and in i-movie).
This is killing me as it is simply impossible to edit as the sync problem is not constant so its not just a matter of doing the math & moving the audio.
I've spent about 5 hours today trouble shooting this & trawling through user forums to find some help and after reading an article on this site (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305284) have ordered an upgrade to FCE 3.5, but am not convinced.
Has anyone any similar experiences / advice / good contacts for tech support?
    Any help greatly appreciated.
i mean it about the beer!
    Cheers,
    Murray

  • Color bars in capture window?

I'm currently trying to log and capture from a Cannon miniDV ZR700 via fire wire400. Although I can control the camera, all I see in the capture window is color bars? Am I missing something. I've done this before, I've also seen this before but for the life of me I can't remember what the problem was.

Well, I'm not sure what happened. . . I disconnected my external drive. Thanks for your help!
You have a Canon product, that is what happened; Canon products don't play well in the digital sandbox with other devices. When you disconnected your external drive, the Canon felt like playing along. You should probably add another firewire bus through your express card slot, if your MacBook Pro has it.

  • Screen Capture won't capture window

Hello, I'm using Snow Leopard on a Mac Mini with a single monitor. When using the screen capture keyboard commands, I can do everything except for capturing a window. I'm supposed to be able to hit command+shift+4, and then spacebar, and the pointer will change into a camera that will capture only the window I click with it. I recall being able to do this a long time ago, before I upgraded to Snow Leopard. I also use a widget called Screenshot Plus that acts as a front-end to those keyboard functions.
When I try these days, the cursor changes into a camera, but the entire screen is highlighted as if it will be selected. When I click, what gets captured is a blank white area the full size of my screen. The Screenshot Pro widget produces the same incorrect result.
I've seen another discussion about this topic, but it seemed to center on the Grab utility. On my system, Grab works correctly, including the window capture function. So I have a way to get the results I want, but I would be interested in a solution that allows me to use the keyboard method again. Thank you.
    Mike

Noondaywitch, I created a test account and screen capture of windows worked correctly in it. Thank you!
So now I need to look for something about my account. I'm going to try disabling all startup items and see what happens.
UPDATE: Disabling all startup items and rebooting fixed the problem. The window capture function now works in my user account. Now I can put startup items back one by one to see which one might have caused the issue.
Thanks to all who gave advice.

  • FMLE encoding stopped: Problem with capture device. Incorrect samples given by the device.

    Hi Support,
I am trying to use FMLE to encode and stream video from an Axis P1346 IP camera, via Axis' Streaming Assistant software, to a Wowza server.
Everyting appears to be working perfectly and the encoding and resultant stream quality is excellent. Sometimes after a few hours and sometimes after just a few minutes, the encoding will stop with the following error:

I have attached a recent log of a session that only lasted a few minutes - do you have any ideas on how to resolve this instability?

  • Capture window won't read time code any more

I haven't seen this exact problem listed on the board before --
When digitizing, the TC display in the upper right corner of the Log & Capture window wouldn't "turn over" from TC 07:59:29:29 to 8:00:00:00. No big deal, I set the out point slightly before hour 8, and the clips were captured without a problem.
Now, when trying to digitize the next tape, it doesn't see TC at all. The counter stays at 00:00:00:00. I've re-started the app and the computer, re-powered my "deck" (a Canon ZR100 camcorder), and re-seated the FW cable on both ends.
What can I do to get Log & Capture to read TC again?

Cleaning the tape heads didn't do anything, except cause me to notice that the ZR100 wasn't seeing the TC either. It can read TC for tape #24 and beyond (where the record TC was set back to the 0 hour).
Does this mean that perhaps the DP didn't record with LTC or VITC for tapes 8 through 23? Is there one type of TC that consumer camcorders won't see?
I promise to Google this, but I swear you guys are generally just as fast.

  • Capture window won't disappear

Whenever I'm capturing something, the capture window moves itself in front of everything else, including other programs. I know that it doesn't have to be like this, but how do you change that setting?

Well, using FCP rescue will trash all my settings - right?< </div>
Of course it will. But not before it makes a copy of your prefs file.
You cannot separate the possible prefs problem from a possible prefs cause without trashing the entire prefs file. There just aren't that THAT many settings that you can't recall them and re-establish them.
You certainly do not need FCP REscue to do this, just make a coyp of your prefs file, call it something unique, move it out of the prefs folder to someplace where you can find it and trash the original.
