Timecode problem

I'm trying to batch capture new footage I filmed on a 24p camera.
In the "log and capture" screen, the footage plays, but the timecode isn't changing. It's all 0's and the in and out says "not set". I try clicking the in and out poiints while it plays but the timecode doesn't change.
How can I fix this?
Thanks
Gerry

As a test, shoot a bit of scratch footage on a new tape on the Canon. See if that captures. Do the same on the Panasonic. This is to make sure that it is not something bad about that tape. Also, if the Panasonic shot in DVCam format, the Canon may not be able to capture it.
As to the 24P response marked "Solved", there is no such thing as a 24P format tape. As Shane said, all 24P does is affect the content of the tape. You might as well say you have to capture footage of flowers with a "flower" camera/deck.

  • Timecode problems with DV-NTSC

This is too weird! I've been editing for years in FCP 5.1.4 and now all of a sudden, I'm having timecode problems when capturing DV. I've tried my dual G5 running OS 10.4.11 and my Mac Book Pro Intel dual running 10.5.6. I tried both of my cams (Sony & Canon), different tapes and firewire cables, no go. I went onto Apple's support and per their instructions removed the Library/Receipts/QT version resources, downloaded QT again, no luck. I just got through capturing and editing a HD DV with no problems, but regular DV won't work now. Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Henrik

    Exactly which version of QT?

  • Media Start/End Timecode problems

I was capturing some tapes so I can start the editing work. Everything was going well, but I noticed a problem with one of the reels, which will make my life **** if I don't take care of it now.
All reels are OK, except one. I made a batch list and captured the clips. The thing is, in the problematic Reel, the media start and end timecodes are lost after the capture.
After the editing proccess, I intend to recapture the used clips in 10 bits, so those lost timecodes are essential to me.
Does anyone have any idea of what can solve this problem? I have tryed recapturing, creating new projects and bins, etc, nothing worked.
    My fcp version is 6.0.6.

My solution for these problems is to copy the tape and digitize that. Make sure you start the recording deck first so it generates new code.

  • VOB and Timecode Problem

I'm new to video editing & Premiere Elements 7 so excuse my ignorance.
I have a Philips 3575 DVD Recorder with a hard drive. When I burn a DVD, with say three 30 minute shows, the DVD creates two VOB files. The first VOB file has 0:45:49 of video and the second VOB has the remaining video.
When I use VLC to play these two files, there are 90 minutes of video. However when I look at the timecode display, after 30 minutes, the timecode goes back to 0:00 and ends (with the first VOB) at 15:49. The second VOB file starts at timecode 15:50, continues to 30:00 and restarts at 0:00 and finishes at 30:00
When I load these two files into Premiere Elements, it shows a duration of 0:29:26:24 and 0:15:21:23 respectively. I lose the 15+ minutes of the first VOB and 30 minutes of the second VOB.
Is there a way to import VOB and ignoring the timecode in the files? Either that or have it read the appropriate timecode information that should be contained as part of the original DVD for the 3 programs?
I'm struggling a bit here, trying to get use to Premiere and trying to solve this problem so any assistance would be appreciated.
    Thanks...

Robert... Saving as MPEG is very fast and this extra step of conversion would be tolerable. I am noticing, however, that the file size is smaller. Is there any image or audio reprocessing involved in creating the MPEG?
Steve... Thanks for the suggestion for MPEG StreamClip and the link to your other post. I hope I don't forget that I can't install the real quicktime. :-)
Paul... Thanks for the suggestion for VideoRedo. Hopefully I can just deal with the conversion to MPEG and keep Premiere. Although it's probably more than I need, it does have some cool features that should make the workflow very efficient.

  • Some kind of timecode problem... i think

    Hi everyone.
I'm trying to capture about 22 minutes of video to my MacBook Pro. The camera taped with was a JVC HD110. I'm a student, and apparently, another student who checked the camera out tampered with the timecode generator ( i think you can slave the timecode on this camera... not sure).
At any rate, the time code that appears on my JVC GR-HD1 begins at 191:14;07
FCE HD translates that TC to 19:51:14;07. Somewhere down the line, as i attempt to capture, I get an error in FCE HD saying it's reached the end of the tape. But it plays fine on my camcorder. I haven't been able to capture any of the video to my notebook yet.
Anyway, is there any-way around this timecode issue? AND do you think the TC issue is causing this problem in the first place?
    Thanks!
    -Nathan

    Nathan,
in the assumption that you have the latest FCE update (as suggested by Al) and that the unusual tape TC might be an issue, I suggest you to try a different easy setup: DV-PAL DV Converter (or DV-NTSC DV Converter) to bypass all timecode controls by FCE.
This setup works when the source device (usually but not necessarily a A/D converter) does not provide timecode nor controls (play, stop, rewind etc), but requires that you manually control the camera. In addition the captured media will not have the source timecode, thus preventing you from "capturing project" in the future, if needed.
But at least you might be able to capture... worth a try.

  • Timecode problems when Printing to tape HDV sequence

I have a project fully edited in HDV format and I want to make a master on tape to archive. I have done this before with no problems but now I have an odd issue. After FCP has printed to tape and I review the footage on the deck (camera is the recording device). The picture is on tape and looks fine but the timecode is not function properly. Instead of running continuously it freezes and then will skip forward some. Again the picture is there and looks fine. I have switched out the decks and the tapes and tried it 5 times but with the same results. What makes this more odd is the first hour of footage runs properly and then after that the problem starts.
I played back other projects like this that I did the same way and the timecode runs correctly. This is a very odd issue and hoping someone else has seen this before and can help. Thanks!

Try exporting the sequence as a self contained movie, then try recording that. My guts say the HDV you're working with is just not allowing your CPU to keep up with it all, and TC might be where this is showing up. But a single file playing back would make things easier on your system all round, and it's lossless. File/Export/QT movie... then check on make self contained, and leave off recompress all frames. This is lossless quality wise.
Sure it's not just dirty heads or something on your recording devices? LIkely not, but it's a shot in the dark from here.

  • Improperly Indexed Footage/Timecode Problem

    Hey everyone,
Recently I deleted all the temporary render files in my premiere pro  media cache folder to free up space on my mac hard drive. This  unfortunate action somehow prevented me from opening my premiere project  file. I have wiped my entire drive and reinstalled the creative suite  to try and get it open, and now I am able to get my project file open,  but everything has been somehow corrupted.
So here's my problem... I believe that the premiere  is unable to read the footage file's timecode because all my edits are  out of sync, both the audio and the video. The sequences are all still  put together properly, every shot and every audio clip is the right  length and in the right place, but it's drawing the source from the  wrong point on the captured tape. So to illustrate, as I play a  sequence, not only is it playing audio from earlier or later on the tape  than the point I specified, but the video is coming from the wrong  point as well. The audio and video are not even from the same incorrect  place on the tape! I've examined the footage in the source monitor and  have discovered that although the audio and video are initially in sync,  they slip out of sync as the clip goes along. I assume this is part of  the problem, and it's one I've read about, but it isn't manifesting in  the timeline in any way I am familiar with.
I have tried importing the footage in a new project  file and have had the same problem. I have tried selecting "replace  footage" in my initial project file to no avail. I have also tried  opening various older versions and backups of my project and have had  the same problem. The issue is clearly with the captured footage and  premiere's ability to properly index it. When I deleted the render  files, I must have deleted something that premiere creates when you  capture footage that it needs to getting everything to sync up.
Can anyone think of a way I can get my project working properly  again? Any help would be much appreciated.
My specs: I'm operating Premiere Pro CS4 on my  Macbook Pro running OSX 10.6.2 Snow Leopard with 4 GB of RAM. My footage  is all 1440x1080p at 24fps in mpeg format. The mpeg file plays fine  outside of premiere.

Hi... I am using the latest version of FCP. I have 1GB of memory on the 17" only 720 mb on the 12".
Odd that things work for the 12" and not for the 17". I should be getting the 12" back today from apple, so I guess the 17" goes back to the closit.
Guess I will have to free up some room if I want to use the 17" with FCP. What a hassel!

  • Timecode problem in capture window

I don't know if it has anything to do again with JVC GY HD format, but I found  that the timecode of the captured material on tape goes different then in the capture window. I'm recordin HDV 720p50 and on one hand when capturing a 10 min video, it shows me in the upper part of the capture window that it arrived at 20 min, on the other hand when I go frame by from forward in capture window tape control, on the tape it goes 2 frames at a time... even if in the lower left corner of the capture window it shows the right timecode (as on tape) it conts 25 frames for one second, skipping every second frame. I don't know if it has something to do with failing scene detection, but I feel it's normal that it can't do it if it doesn't count right the frames...
Another problem I found in the source window. when I put the captured video there it starts the timecode at 08:06:40:00 insted of 00:00:00:00 but at least it shows 50 frames per second...
Why isn't Adobe able to manage properly a 720p50 capture?????????????????

    Is there any idea???????????

  • Weird timecode problem?!

    Hello Adobe,
I have a 100% motion graphics comp,  one part of the timeline "sticks". It sticks during a camera movement (single node camera, with separated x,y,z vales if that matters).
During the camera move the timecode freezes for 4 frames, nothing moves in that 4 frames then it pops back into playing. Also if you click into that spot on the timeline, the compostion will show black or transparent.
I have added an adjustment layer with a timecode filter to double check that the playback is freezing. The timecode filter also freezes for that time. But the timecode on the comp timeline (the GUI) shows those four frames playing when I stew forward.
Here is the kicker- Then when I turn the camera off and the comp plays perfect. The timecode (filter) shows those 4 frames playing.
So I delete the old camera, everything plays fine, then add a new camera with a similar animation and in the same exact spot it freezes again.
I have rendered the timeline twice, and it stops at that point (there is another minute after that).
I've restarted AE, I have no idea what to do.  Of course this is for a client, and stressing me out.
    notes:
    -no time remapping
    -no expressions
    Thank you
    Adam
update- I added another new camera, this time the timecode freezes at a different time for 11 frames. The longer I make the camera movement the longer the time sticks, but it isn't for the whole movement. example: i make the camera move a second longer, it freezes two more frames.?

    Sure thing!
Here are the two cameras on the timeline. These are both new camers, when I noticed the problem I was using "camera 2" that I deleted.
This was taken on the same frame, oddly you can see one is black and the other has an image.
    Thank you for the help!

  • Playhead or timecode problem

    Hello,
I'm running iMovie '09 (8.04). I've imported a dozen game tapes for a football player. He's given me the timecodes from watching the film that he wants extracted and compiled into a highlight video. I pulled in the first 12 of 31 clips last night from several different events into one project. I quit and shut my system down and then restarted this morning.
Here's the problem. Where as last night the playhead info showed the timecode on each event when I was skimming, it is not this morning. All the playhead info shows it the date and time created without the second line showing the HH:MM:SS below it in the event browser. The weird thing is that the info is showing up just like last night on the project viewer.
Here's what I've done so far:
    1) I've disabled and re-enabled the playhead info (command-y and the view menu option)
    2) I've gone into prefs and checked and unchecked the "show time as HH:MM:SS"
    3) I've quit and restarted iMovie
    4) I've restarted the iMac and then restarted iMovie
    5) I've closed the project and reopened it
    6) I've closed the event library and reopened it
I really need to be able to skim to the correct timecode like I was doing last night. I cannot figure out how it was disabled in the event browser but stays enabled in the project viewer.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Brandon

I still haven't got iMovie to show the timecode in the event browser but if I use the clip trimmer around the area, then the timecode starts working again.
I've only had iMovie '09 for a month or so, but this sort of weird behavior just keeps happening. Functionality seems to change on it's own.
    This version stinks.
I hope Apple addresses it's many issues.

  • Importing tape with timecode problems??

I've got an HDV tape that looks perfectly normal, can't see any timecode breaks, but FCP seems to think there are and captures the continuous shot into segments - missing a bit of material each time. There are no breaks I can see on the tape, and it runs fine through the camera.
Is there a way to import the tape into FCP such that FCP 'ignores' any timecode breaks?
I tried a capture on-the-run ('now') but FCP does the same thing - break the continuous shot into segments (with gaps between each segment).
    All ears,
    thanks,
    Ben

HDV (Sony Z1U). Tape looks fine, timecode doesn't seem to have a break.
Trying to capture on the fly I'm now getting an error reading:
"Capture was aborted due to lack of incoming data."
Mmmm? And yet everything LOOKS normal and correct. I wonder if it might be the capture cable giving problems here ... ??
    Any ideas along this line?

  • Timecode Problems In 5.1

Hello all. All of sudden, when trying to log and capture from our Sony BetaSP deck, the timecode in the Log and Capture window (upper right) says 00:58:35:10 when the tape is at the BEGINNING. The deck says 00:00:00:00.
This screws up my in and out points so they all begin at an hour into the tape instead of 2 minutes. When I batch capture, it begins fine, but then just keeps recording one giant clip. I can't figure it out. I tried two different tapes. We have a Keyspan serial adapter to control the deck and it has works for years.
    Thanks.

tc preset is for determining what timecode you start with when you stripe a tape (or "black" at tape) You should be in "record run" are you sure theres no setting for "auto" this looks at LTC in play, FF & REW and VITC in Jog mode.
Typically in your av devices tab in FCP select LTC and VITC. The deck should be record run, regen (unless striping a tape when you'd use preset) and auto for ltc and vitc. Vitc should record on lines 16 and 18. Your deck menu might be in "Basic" mode rather than "enhanced" . if your not sur of the settings try to find a local video engineer in your area, (perhaps a local post house there are several in your area and some great engineers), and hire him to check out your deck. If it did work and now doesn't , what has changed?

  • Timecode problem on edit to tape

    Hi All
I am trying to edit to tape onto a hdw-f500 and all was working fine until this week , now the timecode on assemble edit does not continue but stop at 00:00:00:00 I have changed the deck to another hdw-f500 and same thing??? anyone know why or what setting I need to change?
    Thanks in advance

Sounds like someone has been striping tapes and forgot to set the machine back to normal.
Press the "TC" menu button (should be right below the home button) and make sure the settings are INT-L and REGEN. Sorry I can't be more precise, I'm not at work now and this is from memory. Most of our HDW-F500s are in the garbage and we're using SRW5500s, but the TC menu isn't going to change that much between models.

  • XH A1 timecode problem

    Hi!
First of all log and capture doesnt work at all with FCP 5 and my XH A1, so I just use capture now. When I for example capture from a tape where I have left the camera going the whole duration, it still splits the tape into several different clips beause of timecode errors. I also loose about 10 secs for each new clip, so that timelapses often get ruined because of this. If I change the setting to "warn after capture" it just aborts the capture when there is a timecode error, instead of just warning me afterwards.. Anybody know what to do? Thanks so much!

If non-controllable device does not work, you will need to re-capture the first 10 to 15 seconds of each clip lost in your earlier captures... then its a simple matter of finding the appropriate frame for an edit of the clips when you use them.
You've only lost a little time.
