Timecode reader filter

i generally use the timecode reader filter to make window dubs of a sequence, and the timecode displayed is the sequence timecode. that's fine ... now i have client needing a window dub with the source timecode displayed, specifically of the audio tracks, as opposed to the more usual (at least to me) sequence timecode. anyway to do it. thanks. i guess i can always supply an edl ...

that's cause you can't see audio, thus burn in doesn't work on audio.
nesting is a bad habit to get into. if you ever need to export an edl it will see the nest as a single event. It also makes it confusing when you have changes to your piece.
If you are exporting for an audio workstation automatic duck will export an OMF for you, however it does have a 2 gig file limit (omf does). some newer workstations such as DP6 will exchange xml with FCP

  • Problems with Timecode Reader?

    I can seem to get The Timecode Reader Filter to see that my sequence starts at hour 2 and not hour 1. I can't seem to change the numbers either. Anyone know a trick for this?

    that because the reader "reads" the clip timecode rather than sequence timecode.
    you want the timecode generator filter and apply the correct hour offset in the filter settings.

  • Timecode Reader disappeared

    Hi,
    Was doing a project remotely with many meetings. P2 shot DV NTSC. Had many clips for client review on my MBP, Leopard, FCP6. Applied timecode reader to clips and exported with no problem.
    Transferred project to my desktop MacPro, Snow Leopard, FCP6 and am realizing that now the timecode reader filter is not working. It does not display timecode from the transferred project and it will not work in any other project. Any clues?

    Hi,
    I know it's been a while, but I can't seem to get this resolved.
    A colleague has SL installed with FCP 6.06 and a Kona LHe with the 7.1 drivers and he does not have this issue.
    Shane, if you say what I know you're gonna say...............
    I just re-installed QT7 per Art Aldrich's suggestion. Tom, your XML export didn't do anything different.
    Dan from Imagine says he's seen some wonky QTX behavior, but I just can't seem to figure why timecode would not appear with the filter applied, OR on ProxyMill Exports with TC applied.
    Anyone every experience something similar?

  • Timecode reader to reveal sequence time

    When i use the timecode reader filter in FCP, it only gives me the clip time and not the sequence time when I embed it on screen?
    How can show the Sequence timecode in the reader window?
    Thanks
    REC

    I'm in a mood so allow me to expand on DH's post.
    The reader filter looks for the timecode that already exists on the clips and displays it.
    The timecode generator replaces or overrides or overwrites (you pick which concept you like) the existing timecode with new code and displays it.

  • Timecode Reader Not Matching

    I've been having drift problems with the timecode reader in FCP 7. The timecode reader matches the timecode throughout the entire sequence in FCP, yet in the Quicktime ProRes file I export the burned-in timecode slowly drifts throughout the entire video. By the end of the video, the quicktime player says it's 3 seconds ahead compared to the burned-in timecode.
    The original footage is 23.98, as is the sequence, and the output file. I've tried the timecode generator, which does the same thing as well. Any ideas?

    I'm betting your show is around 60 minutes long? 3.5 seconds is about the difference between non-drop time code (which 23.98 is) and real time (drop frame), which I believe QT player displays.

  • TimeCode Generation Filter question

    My client needs me to burn a timecode onto the video so that can make edits and comments relating to specific times in the video. I am using FCP 5.1.4.
    I have so far done it this way:
    Generated a 15 minute slug.
    Put the TimeCode generation filter on that slug.
    Adjusted the crop of the slug so that it's cropped to the same size as the timecode numbers.
    Is there a cleaner way to do this? I tried setting the opacity of the slug to 0% but that make the timecode invisible as well.
    Any ideas and tips would be greatly appreciated.

    I have to admit I haven't done a lot with nesting so if you wouldn't mind, let me clarify how this nesting is working to make sure I'm doing it correctly:
    I select my entire sequence, called "module 1", all clips, etc. and then nest them. I'll name this sequence "nested module 1".
    It creates a new sequence, named above, which I continue to do all my editing in, etc. but when I want to apply my timecode filter I do it on "module 1".
    Question: When I make changes to the "nested module 1" sequence, does it continue to automatically update my "module 1" length, etc. In other words, is that relationship btwn the two sequences a snapshot or a live-connection?
    Thanks!

  • Please restore the timecode reader!

    There used to be a way to generate a timecode burn. It stopped working a few versions ago. Why? I can't tell you what a pain it is to go back to FCP7 to try to get a TC burn for logging.
    Also... would it be possible to create a way to automatically add the clip name text to the screen? Pass the parameter for the clip name to motion so it can be used as text on the screen. That would be so helpful.
    I know this isn't the place to make suggestions. I will submit this, however I want to air my frustrations with the backward step that hasn't been corrected yet.
    Thank you.

    I wasn't very clear was I.
    I want the burn to reflect the timecode of each clip, not the timecode of the timeline.
    The function existed in 10.0.3, but disappeared in 10.0.4.
    My desire is the ability to take the raw clips, generate the timecode window to reflect the timecode of each clip, along with the name of the clip, and combine them into one long clip do that my producer can download one or two logging clips, and not 100 separate clips.
    I suppose I could combine separate clips into one long clip for editing. That would make the window burn a bit easier.
    I just don't understand why the timecode reader is broken and hasn't been fixed.
    Thanks for the replies.

  • Overlay Timecode Reader

    Hi,
    I'd like to add a Timecode Reader onto footage I've already exported as Mpeg2. Does DVD Studio Pro allow me to overlay the Timecode Reader on top of my Mpeg2 video file? This way I could avoid having to reexport a brand new Mpeg2 video file from FCP/compressor. Also, my timecode in 23.98 which hopefully shouldn't interfere with DVD timecode as I'm making a 24p DVD. Any info much appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Alexander

    Sorry...no such option. You'll have to do this in FCP and re-encode

  • Timecode reader for audio files?

    We've just conducted some interviews which we now need to have transcoded and translated for subtitling.
    Rather than burn a DVD with a burnt in visual timecode, we thought we'd save some time by uploading just the audio file to the web - is there any way a timecode can be embedded in the audio file so the translation matches perfectly?
    Uploading a video file with a visual timecode would result in a huge file size.

    This really depends on what the transcriber can deal with.
    Some quicktime files and the most recent quicktime player can display the timecode track down in the lower left corner of the player (where you normally see a counter).
    The other possibility is to output the timecode to a second audio channel and then the transcriber would need a timecode reader to take that info off of the audio channel. All in all much more hassle then the first option.
    As far as not wanting to create video files for upload keep in mind that in doing a window burn the image quality doesn't need to be great or large. You just need the timecode to be readable.

  • Help with "Timecode Reader" generator - several seconds off

    I'm trying to use the Timecode Reader generator to burn in the timecode for a clip but the time it shows is several seconds different than the actual timecode of the clip.
    I create a Compound Clip from the clip in question and then add the Timecode Reader from the Apple Generators but the readout the generator shows is several seconds different than the timecode that is show when I hover over the clip.

    Closin' out.

  • Timecode Generator Filter does not match Source Timecode

    Hi have a feature that is an uncompressed apple 8bit QT. Frame rate is 23.98fps exported from final cut.
    I added the timecode filter to it and where my film starts on a 2pop at 00.59.58.00, compressor reads it at 00.59.54.10. I experimented with the frame controls etc, but no luck.
    Any helpful ideas from the pros out there?
    thanks

    I don't have any real solution for you, other than to say we appear to be in the same boat.
    See this thread where I've posted about the problem with some detail (and my labor-intensive quasi- workaround):
    http://forums.creativecow.net/thread/98/868971#871544
    Of course, my post-compression workaround won't help you with actually burning in the proper TC when using Compressor.
    Where do we submit bug reports about Final Cut Studio and/or Compressor?

    but when dubbing my code t_filter_values is always empty and I do not see the selections from the dtp. please do you have an idea what is wrong?

    Hello
    I found the error thanks to Ghuru Balaji S,
    now the code is working:

    move i_filter_values-high to i_date.
    I_calday = i_date+8(8).
    RESULT = I_CALDAY.
    problem was that I had other selection in the dtp

  • Read & Filter Multiple .wav files, Export Filtered SPL

    Hi
    I'm searching for tips on how to use LabVIEW to read multiple .wav files, then filter them, then export just the calculated SPL values to a "database friendly format".
    Basically I want a solution that allows me to point to several files, then press a "go button" that triggers LabVIEW to produce filtered SPL values as exported data.
    I'll skim over the cal approach since I'm confident most readers know how to handle it. Basically, though, for each 30 s .wav file of broadband noise, an associated cal tone file is used to determine the dBFS value (dB below Full Scale) to be associated with 94 dB SPL, or 114 dB SPL, as the case may be. I'll leave it at that.
    Detailed Requirements, (excluding cal steps, tho).
    1) Operates on up to a dozen 30 s time records (44,1 kSa/s, mono .wav files);
    2) Passes the signal from each desired .wav file through 18 of the 1/3 octave filters (IEC 1260 compliant, as in the S/V toolset) not necessarily in real time!;
    3) Calculates the SPL for each 1/3 octave filtered time record; This makes (12 files) x (18 filters) = 216 filtered SPL values if end-user points to a dozen broadband noise files before pressing the "Go" button;
    4) Exports SPL values in a suitable database format; an existing database does the rest of the mathematics and report generation;
    Client FileMaker database functions include:
    - import and store 1/3 octave filtered Leq(30) SPL values;
    - average filtered SPL across the declared qty of mic positions of the present test case;
    NOTES:
    1) In the field, we do NOT use simultaneous / MULTI-mics. Instead, it is absolutely an "open and shut case" that the optimum process is to move one (1) single mic quickly from spot to spot. While holding the airborne noise at a constant level we position the mic at each spot for 30 s to feed the .wav recorder, then move on. We emerge from a typical day of field activity with, say, 60 to 100 .wav files to post-process.
    2) (1), above, explains why we don't use any N.I. DAQ h/w.
    3) LabVIEW, it seems, exports best to a spreadsheet, so if needed, I'm prepared to handle manually any ugly conversion from LV's format to a proper database format ("1st Normal Form, 2nd Normal Form, etc.).
    4) Given a choice to calculate the averages in my database, versus in LV (say, to cut down on exported data qty), I'd likely opt to export the 216 SPL's and then do averaging in the database, (where the ASTM E336 reports are done).
    TIPS Gathered To Date:
    1) S/V toolset has IEC 1260 compliant filters, BUT...
    2) If you use the S/V toolset VI's, then you CANNOT ACCESS the filtered time record NOR CAN YOU WRITE the filtered data back to a .wav file! All you can do is measure the filters' outputs. Fortunately for us here, the available measures include SPL.
    Aside: Although not a show-stopper in this project, this constraint is surprising, nonetheless. To access & record the filtered sound, you'd have to either (a) ask N.I. to unprotect VI's, or (b) develop your own IEC compliant filters from N.I.'s published tap co-eff's etc.;
    3) LabVIEW does not support drag'n'drop operations on files. Instead, the recommended technique is to use multiple "Browse to/ Navigation/ File Open" panels to allow LV to open the user's desired qty of .wav files simultaneously;
    Thanks for any tips!

    The filter VI is password protected in the Sound & Vibration Toolkit (SVT) for two reasons. First, since the filter is compliant to a standard, by locking the code we guarantee that no one has the chance to accidentally change it so that they are no longer compliant. Second, the method of filtering the data is considered intellectual property that we are protecting.
    That said, from reading your post it does not appear that you need to have access to the filtered data since you are making an SPL measurement which is provided in the Sound & Vibration functionality. Is that correct?
    Also, I wanted to point you to another subVI which comes with SVT but is not in the pallette that might be of use. There is an example for SVT which is SVXMPL_Wav Power Spectrum which opens up a wav file and computes the power spectrum of it. Inside the VI, there is a subVI which will open a Wav file and convert it into a waveform which you can use with your SVT functions.
    Hope that helps,
    Jack

  • Read filter values of DTP by ABAP routine

    I am trying to read the filter values of a DTP by ABAP routine in transformation.
    I could do it in the past by using the code
    DATA: t_filter_values TYPE rsbk_th_range.
        t_filter_values = p_r_request->get_th_range( ).
    After patching (SAPKW70019), the code does not seem to work.
    Are there any other ways to retrieve the DTP filter values in ABAP?

    Thank you Simon.
    Table RSSELDTP contains the filter values comma separated.
    But it would be really dirty to read the values from there.
    I would have to split the comma separated values. Furthermore, low and high value are just concatenated by a minus sign. I would have to split these values as well.
    Is there a better solution to the problem?
