Timecode synced to clock is disastrous in trying to capture! HELP!

Question

So, the shooter I was working with decided to sync up the timecodes on two cameras by setting them to the clock. So, now that i am capturing, final cut recognizes a timecode break (jump) everytime the shooter pressed pause on the record button (because time of course kept ticking)! This is resulting in one tape being broken up into about 25 to 50 different files in capture. In all honestly, chronology means nothing for this footage, so i dont need the cameras to be in sync. Is there anyway to ignore the timecode breaks so that i can capture a good 20-30 minute clip? Each time final cut creates a new clip, i lose valuable seconds of footage on either end of each clip. my friend says the only solution is to dub the tape onto a nother tape using a deck and thus creating all new timecodes. this seems like a huge headache and also potentially a good way to lose image quality. HELP!

My idea scenario would be to keep the original timecode marks, but enable final cut to capture as one single clip. Is there a way to get final cut to ignore the timecode breaks so that it captures in a single clip? Is that what this command does?
"If you're dead set on not taking this option then you can change your FCP > User Preferences >> On timecode break: to Warn After Capture ... your media will be captured as a single clip but should you need to recapture / reconnect to the newly recaptured media at a later date you won't be able to do so"
It doesnt make sense to me that if the original timecoding is still on the captured material that I wouldnt be able to recapture just because i've skipped over the breaks...
