Timed Access not working on Airport Extended Network

I've had an Airport Extreme wirless networking working fine except for some wifi disconnects at the far end of my house.  So I bought an Airport Express to extend the network.  I'm got the Airport Express configured and running an extended network.  Everything shows "green" in the AirPort Utility, but it required me to set the Timed Access option to "Not Enabled".  If I enable Timed Access on the Airport Extreme, the Airport Express dissapears from the AirPort Utility and starts flashing the amber light.
Is it possible to configure an extended network that continues to support the Timed Access restrictions?

Well,
I succeeded in making it work. Yes it can work!!
Yesterday I had a brainwave. You have to put the mac adress of the airport that extends your network also in the timed access table.
My timetable looks like this:
default: access from 06:00 - 22:00
Devices that have an exception:
My ipad: every day, all day
Airport Express: every day, all day
The trick is that you have to use the mac adress of your airport express of the WiFi interface. The airport has 2 mac adresses one for the wired and one for the WiFi. First I used the ethernet mac adress.
So now it works like a charm.
Success!!!!!!!
BTW: You only have to enter the timed access rules in one airport. It propagates further to the "extenders"

  • Timed Access not working on new Airport Extreme (802.11n).

I bought a new Airport Extreme (802.11n) to use as a router for my network. The network has a mixture of Macs and PCs, using a mixture of wired and wireless connections.
I configured the security settings with on the Airport Extreme to Timed Access. I set the default setting is to No Access.
Three computers are set with "Everyday, Between 8:00am and 11:00pm"; however, when it's 11:00pm, nothing happens. The three computers continue to have access.
I know the MAC addresses I entered are correct. Does anyone know why the Timed Access is not working?

Yes, the printer was initially set the same way it always was on my old router. It used to pop right up on the list. After I switched I was getting communication errors. Ok, new setup, I wasn't worried yet. When I got to the setup window and it a new printer wasn't found I tried updating drivers. No luck. I then used the IPP mode to enter the IP address with the address on the Canon screen. It failed. I then did the same setup telling it which software from the driver list to use. It still could not see it. The odd part is that the Canon can obviously  see the router as its LAN setting read active and it is receiving the IP. I have proceeded to play with every setting on the printer and it is back to factory reset. Oh, I should mention that I have also tried to use Canons network setup utility software and it can not find the connection either. So I really think this is a problem within the router. I have seen many complaints about this on other forums, but most were looking to use the usb on the print server. My Airport is nowhere near my printer and I don't want to lose my all-in-one functions. Some think hard lined ethernet is ancient, but it really is a nice setup. Fast and reliable.

  • AX X 2 - second not working - trying to extend network

I have a AX connected to amy router and this works fine connecting to the internet. I also had another AX extending my network upstairs (+ printer connected to it) and they both worked fine. Recently my internet access speed has been not great so I reset both AX. Now the one connected to the router is working fine but when I try to extend the network with the other AX during set up it asks me to switch networks and I have to say yes to proceed but then it does not pick up the main AX so I cannot get it to extend the network.
    Any ideas

i advise you to link the express that can not be seen up via ethernet cable, this will make it visible in the airport utility, once the settings have been put back and the WDS set back up, then u can put the ethernet cables + airport express back to the way they were before the reset.

  • Windows Vista not working on Airport Extreme network

We had an old airport, and the windows vista computer could connect just fine, no problems. We recently got an Airport Extreme to add networked printing, and now the Windows Vista computer cannot connect. Anyone know why or how to fix this?
    Thanks!

My iPhone 6 (iOS 8.2) not working in AirPort & AirPrint

    Hello ivanwutw,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
It's not exactly clear what the issue is here with your AirPort Express or Extreme, but if you cannot connect to Wi-Fi on your iPhone, please follow the directions in the article below.

  • Time Machine will NOT work with Airport Disks!

It looks like Time Machine will not work with Airport Disks after all. All references to Airport have been removed from the Time Machine page:
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/timemachine.html
It also specifically says: "You can designate just about any HFS+ formatted FireWire or USB drive connected to a Mac as a Time Machine backup drive. Time Machine can also back up to another Mac running Leopard with Personal File Sharing, Leopard Server, or Xsan storage devices."
Surely, they would have included the Airport Extreme Base Station in this list if it was supported.
I really hope there will be another firmware update for the AEBS which will bring compatibility with Time Machine, because Time Machine was the only reason for me to buy an AEBS. (I only use it as a small backup server, I don't even have wireless networking enabled. There were other solutions, e.g. from Synology, which are faster and more reliable than AEBS disk sharing, but Synology stated their network drives would not be compatible with Time Machine.)

Here's how you can potentially use your AirDisk with TimeMachine (beware that YMMV), but it should work as it works with every other "unsupported" device.
    1) Mount your AirDisk so it appears on your Mac
    2) Open Terminal.app
    3) change directories to the AirDisk's root folder located in "/Volumes"
    ie: cd "/Volumes/AirDisk Name"
    4) execute this command to "bless" the drive to be used with time machine:
    touch .com.apple.timemachine.supported
    5) Start TimeMachine and if all went well, it should recognize your AirDisk drive and use it for TM.
This should also work on NFS shares, SMB shares, AFP shares, basically anything. It has worked up until the last developer seed, so unless they yanked this at the last minute, it should still work.
Now, the reason why Apple removed this feature may be due to the unreliability of the AirDisk, so be cautious.

  • External hard drive is not working on airport time capsule even after 7.7.2 firmware update.

External hard drive is not working on airport time capsule even after 7.7.2 firmware update.
I have the latest Airpor Time capsule 2gb. I specifically bought it so that I could have an external hardrive set up to wirelessly house my itunes library and movies. When i connect the drive, all i get is that the disk needs to be repaired.
the drive can works fine when connected to the macbook pro and I have run the verify and repair features in disk utility. I have also reset the airport timecapsule as well following these changes and still no change.
The 7.7.2 update says that it addressed the usb issue of not showing the drives but there are still problems as I cannot get it to appear.
    Please help.
    Thanks

How is the hard drive formatted?
Have you tried using a powered USB hub with the drive when it is connected to the Time Capsule?
(The USB port on the Time Capsule is borderline as far as power is concerned....you may need to use a powered hub.....even if the hard drive has its own power supply)
If the drive is formatted correctly....and....it has ample power, it will "show up" when you open AirPort Utility, click Edit, then click the Disks tab at the top of the next window.
In the example below, my Time Capsule drive is named "Backups" and another drive named "WD Drive" is connected to the USB port on the Time Capsule.
You should see the name of your Time Capsule drive (named "Data" unless you have changed the name) and the name of the USB drive if you perform the same check.
    What do you see?

  • Mac Mini Wake for Network Access Not working after upgrade

After upgrading to the latest OS (10.8) the WOL fuction is not work.  This used to work before the release.  i could see the Mac mini on my mac book pro even when it was asleep.  Once I click on it under the shared resources area I could see the Mac wake up.  Now as soon as it goes to sleep it drops from my mac book pro.  I am connected via WIFI but also tried via LAN.  Same result. Any ideas?  Seems to be a bug as I google this issue it appears to be impacting many people.

Same issue here after updating my iMac to OS X 10.8. I can't use Logmein, wireless syncing to iTunes from my iOS devices, or my Logitech Server software for my Logitech Radio. Once the computer goes to sleep, it is invisible to the rest of the network. This all worked fine on 10.4-10.7. I have double-checked that Wake on Network Activity is turned on. I have disabled all networking interfaces except Ethernet. Nothing seems to help.

  • How can I add a security password to an Airport extended network?

I have an Airport Extreme network extended with an Airport Express and an older Airport Extreme.  Everything works fine as is.  I want to add a security password to the network but when I do, the two extending base stations appear in Airport Utility with an alert triangle next to them and when I select each of them, it asks if I want to "foget" that device.  I do not want to forget those devices as they are extending the range of the network, I just want a password on the entire network for privacy.  How do I accopliish this while still maintaining the extended network?

Conversely, set the security feature for each of the extending base stations first, then set the security for the main base sation.  The extending base stations will go offline. Then back on once the main base station is configured with the same password as the two extenders.
(Found this on an older post about the same issue.)

  • Time Capsule not working anymore as extender

    Hello all,
I have had a working wifi network for the past several years utilizing an airport extreme as my base station with my TIme Capsule in the bedroom functioning as my extender. With my old Time Warner Cable modem, everything was working great until TWC made me get a new high speed modem. After I got the new modem from them, the wifi was definitely faster in the living room in front of the Airport Extreme, but I had practically no service in the bedroom even though airport utility said the connection for the time capsule was excellent. I got rid of the TWC modem and purchased a Surfboard SB 6141, and I have the same exact problem. Can anyone tell me why this is not working properly? Is this a common issue? Is there anyway I can see if this is a problem that can be fixed?  If I unplug the TC in the bedroom, my download speeds are much better, but not as fast as in the living room bears the AE.

When you change the modem or main router you need to reboot the whole network.
The particular model you got.. Motorola 6141 happens to be troublesome indeed with the apple routers.
I recommend you simply factory reset both the AE and TC.. you can do both of them the same way.
    Factory reset universal
Power off the TC.. ie pull the power cord or power off at the wall.. wait 10sec.. hold in the reset button.. be gentle.. power on again still holding in reset.. and keep holding it in for another 10sec. You may need some help as it is hard to both hold in reset and apply power. It will show success by rapidly blinking the front led. Release the reset.. and wait a couple of min for the TC to reset and come back with factory settings. If the front LED doesn’t blink rapidly you missed it and simply try again. The reset is fairly fragile in these.. press it so you feel it just click and no more.. I have seen people bend the lever or even break it. I use a toothpick as tool.
N.B. None of your files on the hard disk of the TC are deleted.. this simply clears out the router settings of the TC.
I would then take both back to 7.6.1 firmware.
Hold down the option key whilst you select version of firmware in the utility.
Using airport utility reset the names of everything.. use all short names, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
Use for example name like AEgen4 and TCgenx (fill in the actual gen for x)
Use short wireless names AE24ghz and a different name for 5ghz so you can force the extend to correct band.
    eg AE5ghz
Also try locking the wireless channels.. test on 11, 8, 6 on 2.4ghz and try 36 and 149 on 5ghz.
I also strongly recommend using the v5 airport utility.. it will show you the actual link speeds between the AE and TC. v6 airport utility is a toy version with pretty pictures and no content.
You can see from my set in the centre of the main AP and the extend wireless units on each side.. all of these can be opened at the same time and you can keep track of the links.

  • Can't get PC with SMC to see the airport extended network

Problem: My wireless notebooks get a weak signal next to the airport express antenna.
    Problem Description:
We have installed the airport to extend a wireless network. It seems that it is installed properly as the airport light is green continously. All PC wireless notebooks do not seem to "see" the airport as the signal is weak. Plugging and unplugging the airport does not seem to affect the signal strength at all.
Airport utilities detect correctly the antenna on all PC. The install wizard seem to have worked properly. However, we have no way of knowing if the weak signal is coming from the antenna's weak link to the router or the PC is just not using the extended feature of the Airport.
What I wish Apple did for PC install:
I would expect a separate Windows troubleshooting section that does not involve any MAC for pure PC installations.
I also wish to find a technical description of the installation (Airport uses the same IP network or not, SSID or not) How it works basically.
Ideally, it would be nice to have a troubleshooting procedure to see if the airport is working or not.
The installation is missing 2 very important troubleshouting tools:
    - a utility to test the strength of the wireless signal between the airport and the router.
    - another utility to confirm that the PC is "travelling" through the airport or not (i.e. only going through the router). (I tried using "tracert" hoping that the IP of the airport antenna would appear but it did not. My first "stop" was the IP of the router.)
Note: Unplugging the airport and putting back on is a solution but in my case it does not affect the installation at all. So I believe it is not the best way to test the installation.
Finally, it would be nice to see Windows sample screens to confirm how the airport should appear (it appears with a red mark next to the router, has its own IP, share or not the same SSID,...)
Also explain why most of the options of the admin utility are grayed out and inaccessible.
    Setup:
    Router: SMC Wireless router Barricade
Antenna: Airport Express displaying the continous green light status
PC: 2 notebooks with WIFI runnign Windows XP SP2
Both PC detect the antenna and show the Airport's network in the wireless list. However it is not contactible
I hope my tech report is complete enough
    Thanks
    Chris

I wish to add purhaps some IP info.
    SMC router: 192.168.2.100
    Airport: 192.168.2.104
    PCs: DHCP
Should the airport extended wireless have its own IP like the proposed 10.0.1.X or does it use the rotuer's default?
Should we try to connect to the Airport network and the signal will then link to the SMC router or the Airport is transparent and we only connect to the SMC router which explains why the Airport connection has a red flag.

  • Airport Extended Network, IP adresses and channels

    HI,
Hoping to get some help with an airport express network to extend wireless signals. Sorry for the long post, just trying to explain the situation.
Here's what I've set up in order to extend my wireless internet network out to the garage:
    AX as a base station----->AX #2------>AX #3
Using Set Up Assistant, I got the first one going as a main base station, then to set up the 2nd AX, I selected extend existing network. That worked fine, it assigned #2 as a remote station. I then attempted to add AX #3, using the Set Up assistant, to extend network of the 2nd (logic being that this is the one it can see, therefore this is the one that would pass on the signal).
What it did though was create #1 and #2 as the main base stations, with #3 as the remote. It seems that #2 should be the relay, not a main as it is currently configured. I've also noticed both AX BaseStation and AX #2 in the Admin Utility are showing up as main base stations with the very same IP address. This seems to be the root of internet connectivity problems, and when I've unplugged, or changed channel of AX#2 eveything goes haywire.
Also, I tried setting AX #2 as the relay station in the Admin Utility and it also messed everything up with #1 and #2. Had to reset and reconfigure them all to connect.
Because of the same IP address does the network "see" them as the same station, and is that why I can't make changes to either one?
How do I configure them in the Setup Assistant to do the following:
Main base station AX----> relay AX #2------> remote AX #3
    Thanks for help!!

  • SMB not working from outside local network

    Hello,
On my old MacBook I installed OS X Server to create a file sharing server.  I set it up using my public IP address so that I could access my files from outside the local network.  I don't have an Apple router, but I found the port number for SMB and AFP and did the port forwarding.  My issue is that smb stopped working.  It used to work out side the network because it tested it.  My Mac can still connect though outside the local network using my public IP.  I have no clue why SMB is not working as it was working recently.  My only idea is that I got a new modem from my ISP.  Could that make a difference?  I don't get it because AFP still works fine.  File sharing using SMB is checked in the server app and file sharing preferences so it is not that.  I am using OS X 10.8.4 on a MacBook running OS X Server version 2.2.1.  Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Michael

Is it a modem only, or is it a modem/router that might be creating a double-NAT on your network?
Incidentally, since you're running Server, you might want to use the built-in VPN gateway to give yourself better security - tunneling AFP/SMB through a router/firewall is pretty insecure.

  • Expression using Map access not working....

I am attempting to use the ability to access a Map by key from a binding expression on the jsp. I have extended HashMap and overridden the get method in order to return a Boolean from the get(key) method.
    This works:
    rendered="#{bean.enabledFunctionSecurityMap['key1']}"
    it ends up calling the bean.getEnableFunctionSecurityMap().get("key1");
This should work also but doesn't:
    rendered="#{bean.enabledFunctionSecurityMap['key1'] or bean.enabledFunctionSecurityMap['key2']}"
Any reason why a single Boolean returned from a Map would work fine, but a more complex statement with 2 Booleans will not work. Doing a statement like this just accessing multiple boolean getter functions on a bean works, how come access muiltiple Map returns does not?
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Mike

All righty then, I solved my own problem.
    There were actually 2 issues.
    1. I could so far only get this to work if the Overridden Map Object is registered as a manged-bean itself.
    2. I was testing to see if it worked by using System.out.println methods in my overridden get() method. Appearantly the JSF EL is smarter than I am. If you have #{binding1 or binding2} and binding1 evaluates to True, binding2 is never evaluated. The expression is short circuited and returns true... DUH....
So this expression fires both bindings....
    rendered="#{enabled['key1'] and not enabled['key2']}"
    Where enabled is...
    <managed-bean>
    <managed-bean-name>enabled</managed-bean-name>
    <managed-bean-class>security.EnabledFunctionSecurityMap</managed-bean-class>
    <managed-bean-scope>session</managed-bean-scope>
    </managed-bean>
Next step will be to try and figure out how to get this to work where the EnabledFunctionSecurityMap is on another bean.
Hope this helps anyone trying to do the same.
    Mike
