Timed profiles

On My N73 i do not have the option for timed profiles i.e. "silent" Is it possible to set a profile for a period of time

The N73 (or any other S60 based phone) doesn't have timed profiles support (feature) built-in.
You can probably find some add-on application for such a purpose. Search in the catalog here:

  • Timed profiles and themes - N73

Does anybody know if there is such an application in existence for Timed profiles and Timed themes - just like the old Nokia phones had (Timed profiles anyway).
I think it would be a simple idea and very handy.
It seems Nokia are leaving out some of the small but useful little applications on the newer phones (eg. Auto key guard - I know it's available on Symbian website but it should be standard).
    Any help greatly appreciated...
    Regards...

I agree.. I used "Timed profiles" every single night so I couldnt desturbed until the time I set.. and I dont understand why nokia left out "auto keypad lock".. those to functions wouldnt be any work or cost at all to add to a phone like this.. but it is a great phone I think, and auto keypad lock is availeble for download

  • Bug-Report: 3110c v7.21 using timed profiles freez...

    v7.21:
    Using timed profile:
After setting the end time and pressing OK the phone freezes!
NSU offers no downgrade or reinstall of the firmware and so a very important feature is lost.
Before updating to v7.21 everything worked fine.

  • Bring back timed profiles!

Being able to set a profile, such as silent or meeting, for a timed period on the 6310i was really useful. Nokia please bring this back! Having the ability to set a more discrete ring tone during working hours, but know that didn't have to remember to change it back, to hear the important calls in the pub after work, was great functionality.
If the E51 is going to be a worthy modern day successor to this phone (it so very nearly is) it needs this functionality. I'm sure it is something that could be added in to a future firmware change.

    Hi,
To change the background and color in Office 2013, in any Office Application, we can go to FILE -> Options -> General -> Personalize your copy of Microsoft Office, select Office Theme -> OK.
It's true the fact is we only have White, Light Gray and Dark Gray in Office 2013, which is complained about by some of our customers. I feel really sorry if this has brought you any inconvenience. So far I haven't heard whether more colors will be added
to Office 2013, but please be assured that any improvements in the product are based on users' requirements. Our developers strive to capture Microsoft users' ideas and are working hard to create a more powerful and easy-to-use product.

  • E71 Feedback and Wish list for future development

    Hi Nokia and Nokia Fans.
E71 is a masterpiece but I believe there's much room for improvement. My E71 is indispensable to me. I wish Nokia will strive to thrive the E series and in particular the E71.
Here's my wish list / features to add:
    1. A Task Manager for Symbian that's Nokia naively developed is absolutely essential as it's required to manage all aspects of applications, processes and threads, especially the misbehaving ones.
    2. Use better GPS Chipset with better sensitivity as the current one is really slackly.
    3. High-Speed WiFi connection to access and manage the phone including the mass storage instead of fiddling with wires.
    4. Secure zone for creating password-protected notes/memos/etc, previously called "wallet".
    5. Add SMS "Listen" feature for sent messages.
    6. Add "Timed" Profiles.
My feedback / Issues to fix:
    1. "Memory card in use" Error. Despite proper removal of USB connection when using PC Suite or Mass Storage data transfer.
    2. Configure to display "Firstname Lastname" format .
    3. Configure Date display to American format (Wednesday December 03 2008).
    4. Save current "configurations and user preferences" for future deployment after firmware upgrade or maintenance routine.
    5. When receiving a Bluetooth message with (.sis or .sisx) attachment, provide save to memory card option rather than launching installtion process.
    6. Setting up "WPA2 Only" mode on WLAN Security Settings for a particular Access Point will not allow communication despite the access point router/gateway is configured to work on this particular mode.
    7. Camera is another isssue. Fix color fidelity and picture clarity issues.
    Thanks
    .......To be revised as needed.

Nice wishlist, willing to front up the extra cash to have these features? Got to remember that until these feature become more common they will stay as premium items and that you need to pay the extra money or move to a higher priced plan for them. Getting something like device locks would be great though but then what would device locks do for a customer base? and they do have the data encryption built in....
I would like to see a 16:9 aspect ratio in the next version of the phone myself. A holster pouch w/ belt clip rather than looking for and buying an ill fitting pouch cos I really don't like the pouch it comes with and cant find a nice one. The ability to have more than just the plain 6 applications on the screen, it used to scroll if I remember correctly in the older ones. The ability to skip music tracks when pressing volume up or down. 3.5mm audio jack. Time and date or at least time shown on the top strip of the display when going through the menu (there are a number of time I want to know the time and have to program juggle to find out what it is. More symbols on the other keys rather than just on the right hand side, I do have 2 thumbs available to use and fairly dexterous with either hand.
Less "download - **bleep**" in the web menu it takes me to a link with useless stuff on it.....
That GPS chip needs to be replaced, it has me walking down the road or in my neighbours house when I'm just lying in my lounge.
This wish is for all Nokia Symbian devices, I would love to see a Nokia App store. I'm sure it'll come around once they get the symbian foundation off the ground but i'm impatient and a lil lazy and haven't always got the time to find an application for something I have thought up. Blackberry and Apple have got something of a centralised store up and running, C'mon Nokia! Get a move on!

  • Wish List For Improvements to Series 60

    Dear Nokia,
I recently migrated from my Series 40 Nokia 6270 to my first Series 60 Nokia E65, and I'm extremely happy.
However there are a few features which were available on my 6270 but which are unavailable on my E65 (and some other ideas), and I hope you will consider them for the future:
    1. Scalable or selectable fonts for SMS (I believe it's available on Series 60 Fp1 software, but not on the E65).
    2. Timed Profiles.
    3. Birthdates in the Calendar should show the person's new age (e.g. 45), not just the Year Of Birth (e.g 1962).
    4. Nokia Start-Up tone cannot be disabled in General Profile.
    5. Repeatable alarm settings should be available.
    6. Slide function should be User Selectable (e.g. no affect on calls in progress).
    7. With slider closed and keypad locked, pushing the End key should illuminate the display, so that "Unlock" option is visible.
    8. Date display on Standby Screen would be better with three letters (e.g. THU rather than TH).
    9. Camera should automatically change to Landscape mode when handset is turned sideways.
    10. Countdown Timer should be available.
    11. Week number should be displayed in Calendar.
    12. When "New SMS" is displayed in Active Standy screen, clicking on it should take you directly to the Inbox, not cycle through general "Messaging" first.
Once again, thanks for a great phone, and I hope you can make it even better!

Sorry, I didn't explain myself properly. I'd like my E65 to work like my 6270, whereby the full screen area is used in camera mode. The E65 only uses part of the screen.

It does go straight to the message on my E65 unless you have more than one message in which case it takes you to the inbox. What does yours do exactly?
Even with one message, when I click on the new message alert at the top of the active standy screen it briefly displays "Messaging" before going to the Inbox. Not the end of the world, but a bit annoying!
    Thanks for your feedback!!

  • Text messages and phone calls from March 2012 to date are missing after activating iphone5

text messages and phone calls from March 2012 to date are missing after activating iphone5. I backed up my 4 before activating my 5. Can i retrieve them somehow?

i would not want to bet on nokia ever releasing a patch or update in the software to allow this function on this particular phone.
if you look at nokia phones over the years, they have added functionality like this across a wide range all at once, take for example timed profiles on symbian phones. these have only just been phased in.
i do not think it is a development cop out, more along the lines that nokia is a huge company and as such would have a huge effor in market research. if they didnt pick this out through their market researc, why spend the money adding it?
the comment on annoyance is entirely personal to me, as it is important to you - you may want to consider moving to a symbian (series 60) based handset as these give you a lot of expansion for this sort of need.

  • 5800 alarm problem

My phone has a problem with the alarm, it doesn't ring at the right time, sometime 2 min. late, sometime 15 min. late & sometime even 30 min. late.
I have upgraded the firmware of my phone from v21 to v31 formatted the memory card & the hard reset the phone before update & after update.
It was working properly before the firmware update, is this a problem in the new firmware, if so it needs to be fixed as soon as possible, cause I depend on my mobiles alarm to wake up fro office (currently using my wife phone fro that purpose)

The point is to change it and put something else there. Altering the snooze time has been known to put things like this right.
FWIW, I never had problems like this on V21 but I'm now plagued with them on V30 and then V31. The alarm goes off at the wrong time, the phone exits timed profiles late if at all, and scheduled backups happen only randomly. The firmware is buggy, there's no denying that.

  • E65 gripes (and wish-list)

Just finishing my 2nd week of ownership of this phone, and while the pros outweigh the cons by a substantial margin, at the end of the day, there are some features I miss that were brilliant on my old 6230i.
    1) No timed profiles - this was a really neat feature I wish they'd put back. Often I'd go into a meeting and just put my phone on timed-silent. Great feature if you constantly forget to change back to general setting.
    2) Selective alarms - would be nice to have the alarm only go off on the weekdays. Now, it's all or nothing. I found a 3rd party application (Smartbian) that gives this functionality, but it's got an annoying bug that doesn't shut off the alarm by clicking the stop button.
    3) Poor Bluetooth GPS support - I think this could be my own fault for not checking compatibility at first, but you'd expect that this brand-new model would have some forward compatibility with Bluetooth devices, specifically the new chipset GPS units being promoted on ebay.
That's it for now. Like I said, this is a nice phone, but at the end of the day, I think I should've waited a couple of weeks for the 6110 Communicator to be released (with the same plan, nonetheless). For now, I'm going to try to sell the GPS unit and recoup some of my costs.

    Few more othe annoying issues:
    4. When there is a phone in the contacts (e.g. sent by bluetooth) you can't change the tag of what each phone is with one of the presets. You have to type it yourself!!!
    5. No setting for the Alarm volume
    6. There seems to be no way to select a different sound for the Calendar Alarm.Message Edited by morph on 24-Jun-200704:44 PM

  • What's this icon?

    Hi all
I have nokia 6500slide, and recently on the front of the display screen next to battery icon, there is a new icon which I have never seen before and it's not in manual. I will do my best to describe it.
It's size of a small alarm bell (as on the phone) dark blue colour, round shape with very tiny small letter L on it.
Does anybody have any idea what is that?
I haven't downloaded anything from the net or upgrade to anything.
    Any answer much appreciated.
    Thank you
    Solved!

  • Any reason to upgrade my E51 from 200.34.36?

The phone is working fine for me, except for a few minor annoyances.  About the only reason I'd consider upgrading is if it would fix any of these.
    1.  My previous phone, a Nokia 6133, had timed profiles, where I could select a profile for some length of time, and the phone would automatically return to the default profile.  Really useful for meetings and the like. My E51 currently can't do this.
    2.  I formatted a memory card in the phone, and now it's totally inaccessible from a PC.  I put it in a USB memory card reader, plug it into my system, and nothing.  It doesn't even recognise the memory card, no drive letter appears in explorer like it does when I use a valid memory card. I've checked for a password on the phone, there isn't one.  Itd be nice if there was a way to format a memory card so I can remove it from the phone and access it in a USB reader on a PC.
    3.  Going back to the 6133 again, it had the ability to show both the phone contacts and the SIM contacts in one list.  I can get to the contacts in the SIM card on the 6133, but it'd be a useful feature if I didn't have to drill through two or three levels of menus to get to them.  Just hit the contacts button, and there they are.
If none of these are fixed, I can't see any benefit to upgrading - other than these, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

    See this: http://www.apple.com/finalcutpro/imovie-to-finalcutpro/
I've imported a couple of iMovie '11 projects to Final Cut Pro X. The process works quite seamlessly. The associated Events are also imported to FCP X Events Library. However, in a couple of areas, some items weren't always kept in the correct position - such as Titles. So you may have to play around a bit in order to re-sync some media. Certainly, you will need to check through the whole project to ensure the integrity of the project.
Whilst FCP X can render in the background, I'm finding that things are much quicker in iMovie - each title, transition and effect appears virtually in an instant (no rendering at all during editing). In FCP X, there is a lag - items don't appear to play smoothly until the render is complete. So, when checking how a title or transition looks on playback, to see a smooth result it's best to wait for the render to finish. Of course, this is probably dependent on your system - perhaps I need to upgrade to 8 GB of RAM and a quad core i7.

  • Feedback on Nokia 6101

    Hello :-)
I thought this "Ideas and Feedback" discussion was only for the bulletin board itself but was told otherwise in this thread so here goes.
I posted the text below on phonedog.com but they haven't published it at the time of this posting.
    Pros
    Timed profiles.
When moving between time zones, is nice to be able to change the time zone only rather than having to reset the time.
PC Suite 6.7 (not 6.8!) and Outlook 2003 integration.
    Cons
Outer surface scratched already and I'm careful with it.
When folded the screen touches the keys so is scuffed already.
Keypad does not lock when folded -- misses the point of clamshell!
Audio recording: too many keypresses to make an audio recording. On the Motorola V500 just one key -- press to record and release to stop recording. The Recordings folder is not available in "Go to". In the Recordings folder only the date of the recording is listed. Time and duration would be helpful when several recordings have been made on the same day.
No "copy, cut, paste" in editable fields.
SMS message composition: the last message is displayed with a title taken from the first few characters of the message. The title does not change when the message is changed. Hence, at the time of sending, the title is confusngly taken from the previously composed message. Why bother having the title?
SMS message send: no "in outbox to send later" when message cannot be sent. What is the Outbox for, then?
SMS message reports: if, say, 3 SMS reports arrive and then an actual SMS message the phone tells you 4 messages have arrived. Duh! And the reports are badly laid out so it's easy to miss time and date. These are on second screen. The first screen shows only 3 lines (status, name and number) so no reason for user to look for the second screen. Neither screen identifies message except by name and number of recipient. This is not enough when several message sent to the same recipient. Would be helpful to have date and time of sending and first few characters of the message.
Battery life poor. And I was careful to drain it fully after the first 3 charges then charge it fully. Perhaps they chose a small battery to keep the phone small and light.
Short screen illumination and most places there's no single key to turn the light back on -- mostly every key will have an effect and you'll have to press another key to get back where you were.
"Go to" is handy but selects profile without choice of selecting it until a specified time.
When the SIM Is changed and the phone started you have to set the time and date.
    External antenna stub.
    Small memory for photos.
Would be better if PTT key was configurable to something else like press/release audio recording.
Would be better if all the settings were under "Settings". For example the message settings are under Messages, Message settings rather than under Settings, Messages.
    Summary
Disappointing. I bought Nokia when my Motorola V500 failed because the best phones I've had have been Nokias and I wanted PC/phone integration (PC Suite is "good enough" and free). I wanted something discrete and small with the self-protetction of a clamshell. But there are too many annoyances for me to want to continue with this phone. Am now looking at PC/phone integration software (initially MobileAgent and MobileEdit) to extend the choice of clamshells beyond Nokia -- and will then study the reviews for usability and simple "good design" before buying. A mobile phone is a working tool, not a fashion accessory!
How many days have you had this phone: 50
    Styling: very good
    Ease of use: fair
    Display: very good
    Voice quality: excellent
    Battery life: poor
    Quality/durability: poor

  • Tips on Limiting internet access

I hope the following helps people on limiting traffic at home, it started off as a how to, but then realised it was going to be too complicated, so i thought i would just give people some tips so they have a starting point. Please comment if you have your own guides on how to do it  Limiting internet on your local network can be a very complex issue, that is why there are software packages available such as Net Nanny that make it easier for you. If you are tech savy you can do it yourself provided that your modem supports features such as QoS, URL Filtering, WAN\LAN Firewall and Timed Profiles QoS, stands for Quality of Service meaning you can have traffic slowed if you decide you don’t want to fully ban them.URL Filtering can be used to ban only certain sites.Firewall is the enforcer of the rules.Timed profiles establish a start and end time of when certain actions should take place, for example only ban traffic between 10 AM and 7 AM If you want to do this on a cable modem make sure that your cable modem is bridged before you go out and get a router that is able to do the above functionality If you have ADSL you have two choices, either get a modem router combined or you use your existing bigpond modem and get a router. If you just get a router make sure you bridge the modem for the following to work correctly If you are stuck on how to bridge your modem the following might help http://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/adsl_modem_router_bridge_mode I have found that Billion modems work the best as they are the most feature rich and are constantly updated. They are relatively affordable and can be purchased from the likes of JMG Technology, MSY and others. For example the 8800AXL AC ADSL Router is only $144 Here is some advise on how to set it uphttp://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/909150

  • The story of my 2nd 6233

My first 6233 kept turning itself off and then on again and when my bluetooth was attatched and i received a text it would disconnect then re connect.
I set it back to T-Mobile and had another one sent out to me.The first phone was running on a software below V4.52 the second was running on V4.52 and guess what?? yes it's still doing the same and yes i'm having another one delivered tomorrow. If it happens again then i will be left with no option but to change to another phone company.
I rang Nokia and they were as much use as a chocolate teapot!!
The problem is that i need certain things on a phone such as timed profiles, automatic answer and i like the monoblock style of phone.
    Any ideas??
    yours mr disgurntled!!

I think the 6280 feels cheap compared to the 6233, the build quality just isn't there.
The 6280 also has some annoying bugs, some are the same as the 6233, like the white screen of doom when playing back media files.
The 6280 that my brother has does not suffer from the quiet ring/sms tone problem that my 6233 has.
There seems to be a new firmware version 5.92 that has just been released that seems to bring the functionality of the 6280 past the 6233 for now as the new firmware supports flight mode and h.264/AVC playback amongst other things.
First use the search to see if your question has already been answered...
Secondly I will not knowingly assist in breaking the forum rules.
My information is always changing, what I post at the time is usually true.

  • Automagic ID number generation

My application uses System.currentTimeMillis() when it starts to create a starting ID for logging events and then increments IDs from the starting value. This works great because the value is always increasing even if we stop/start the application, reboot, whatever so the events are chronologically ordered by ID. Big gaps in IDs are fine, but I need them to always be increasing.
System.currentTimeMillis() was perfect for my needs until I got the requirement to run my application on a training simulator. Simulators mess with the system clock. They freeze it, have it make big jumps forward and backward as they initialize to different snapshots, etc. So I'm looking for some other way to get a similar value from the system that is not tied to the system clock.
I looked into System.nanoTime(), but it is not documented when/how it's "mutable epoch" is set or adjusted. Googling for info indicates it might be reset on a reboot. I read somewhere that it's only guaranteed not to change within the lifespan of a VM. That doesn't sound like the solution I need, but is useful info for doing timing/profiling within my code.
My fallback plan is to somehow save the max ID value and read it in on application startup, but that might be tricky with redundant servers, either of which can be in control (no promise both are up at the same time or that my app is always running on any given server) and would need to use the same basis. Their system clocks are tied to the same time server, and that's close enough for my needs. Events don't happen that fast. I just need the order to be accurate within a second or two, not an absolute perfect sequence of events history.
    Suggestions?

Suggestions? By that definition your system is running correctly.
Lets suppose we used the following solution
    - Database with autoincrementing primary key
    - Each entry uses the primary key
That will do the same as the system you are currently testing and works across servers.
But it will still fail if the database is rebuilt.
And your solution - psersisting the last value. That works as well. Until I reinstall the app or perhaps even the OS.
You don't have a technological problem. You have a requirements/architecture problem. Until you nail down specifically what the entire problem domain is and what it isn't, you can't look for a technological solution.
You might also evaluate is the "training simulator" the actual target? Is the problem domain for your application really that? Or is just the case that is inconvenient that an unintended target is being used? If the second then you should look for a solution OUTSIDE of your app. Such as requiring that wherever these ids are used are cleared first if they want to start switching the system clock around.
