Timeline Bug while dragging, trimming, moving a clip

Hello,
I have a huge problem with Adobe Premiere Elements 11 on a Mac, OSX Lion - only in the expert mode:
If I want to drag a clip in my timeline or reposition it or trimm it, the normal background of the timeline is replace with a copy of the preview-part above. So I could not see where to place my clip exactly. I see only the duplicated preview area - see my screenshots:
Insert a clip:
Remove a clip:
Normal view, while doing nothing:
How can I fix this problem? Has anyone the same bug?
Best regards
Tom

Bob
No I am not affiliated with Adobe in any way. Just an Elements user, and an Elements Windows user at that. But I have an over active troubleshooting gene.
The issue symptoms that you present surely do fit the profile intended for that Adobe issue and its fix. Since Adobe did offer the fix, I assumed that it had insider information on cause and its relationship to the fix.
Even if you do not act on updating display driver for your new computer, for troubleshooting purposes, I would identify the display driver that you have, go to the web site of the display driver card's manufacturer, and verify that the display driver is up to date to rule that factor in or out. In troubleshooting,take nothing for granted. If you verify that the display driver is up to date, then I would go back to Adobe Technical Service, update it on your details, and then learn "what next".
Several months ago elsewhere I was working with a Premiere Elements 11 Mac user, dealing with this same issue. Last I heard from him, nothing worked.
We will be watching for your progress.
Thanks.

  • Finder focus bug while dragging

    Hi there
    I experienced the following Finder problem in Mavericks already and now it still exists in Yosemite.
    These steps lead to that problem:
    - open 2 new finder windows
    - move one of them a bit to the side (or just anywhere)
    - take a file or folder from the other window
    - drag it over the relocated window
    Now what happens is that the dragged file/folder drops onto the place, where the window originally was rather than where the mouse really is at that moment.
    You can see the focus on folders (even the sidebar) in the same distance to the mouse like you previously moved the window.
    I hope the screenshot below helps understanding the problem.
    Any idea how to get rid of that bug? Or just live with it? It's certainly is not a feature.

    Yes, it happens unrelated to whatever is in the back of the window (so, even if they don't overlap). And it happens in all the finder views (icon view, list view …).
    Made another screenshot for clarification and noticed something (probably) related: I created a new folder (using the Cmd+Shift+N) and this happened:
    That's the screenshot I wanted to take first. If I drag the file a bit more down the left column lights up, I just simply can't put it into the second column.
    It seems, that the finder window's "hitbox" (or whatever) stays in its original place and is not moved around.

  • While trimming a clip in my timeline, the entire timeline moves with my trim. How can I stop that and leave a gap in-between clips?

    While trimming a clip in my timeline, the entire timeline moves with my trim. How can I stop that and leave a gap in-between clips? Also when I use my blade it only leaves a dotted line in the clip. How can I make that a solid line? I do a lot of flickering in my videos and don't need that some what of a snapping effect while I edit. Please help me someone. I believe i upgraded from FCP 10.0.1 to 10.0.3 and before it never did this.

    Mark an In point and an Out point (which creates a Range) and hit the forward delete key (Replace with Gap.) On a MacBook, you'll probably need to hold down the Fn key and type the Delete key (or, I think you might be able to use Shift-Delete as the same command). On an iMac/Mac Pro keyboard, it's the key just to the left of 'end' or the next key above the left arrow key.
    You can use the Range tool (hold down the R key and click drag over your clip) or the Blade tool to cut at the in and out (then select the cut and replace with gap).
    You can also go into Commands > Customize (command-option-K) and assign a different key to Replace with Gap.
    If you need to ripple edit the ends (cut), create a small section that is Gap, and hold down the T key while you use the mouse to click drag both ends (double sided trim cursor) of the cut.
    Don't worry about the dotted line blade... That just lets you know that the frames on either side of the cut are continuous, or sequential — nothing has been moved yet. Once frames from either side of the mark have been cut, it becomes a full fledged cut resembling a separate clip.

  • While moving a clip to the timeline cc puts it to the righ instead of on top

    while moving a clip to the timeline cc puts it to the righ instead of on top

    Maybe it can't put it on the track above it because you have the lower track set as the Source Patching destination.

  • I'm trying to reverb an audio clip in my timeline and I can't find the effect tab in the browser to drag to my audio clip to reverb. I can reverb the clip in the viewer but can't it won't drag to the timeline. I'm using FCE

    I'm trying to reverb an audio clip in my timeline and I can't find the effect tab in the browser to drag to my audio clip to reverb. I can reverb the clip in the viewer but it won't drag to the timeline. I'm using FCE

    You cannot drag the effects themselves to the timeline.  You add them to a clip in the Viewer, just as you have done.
    If the clip was already in the timeline when you  opened it in the Viewer (by double-clicking it in the timeline to open it in the Viewer) and then added the reverb effect, there is nothing further to do, you have added the effect to the clip.  You don't drag it back to the timeline.
    You only have to drag the clip to the timeline if the clip was not already in the timeline (for example, if you opened the clip from the FCE Browser; or set different In and Out points in a master clip to use a different portion of the master clip in a different location in your timeline).
    Depending on the effect you add, you may have to render the timeline after adding the effect.  But I don't think reverb requires immediate rendering.  One other note, you said you were working with an audio clip ... audio clips need to be AIFF (not MP3 or something else) and preferably 16-bit stereo.

  • Playhead in timeline doesn't move while in trim mode

    Just updated to 7.2.2 and now the playhead won't move while in trim mode.  It doesn't move for jkl trimming or when I hit the spacebar to preview a cut.  The cut does however play back in the program monitor.  It's only the playhead in the timeline that seems to be frozen, until a new in and/or out is made, and then it will jump to that position.  I've tried clearing the media cache and trashing prefs.  I've even rebooted!  Please don't tell me I need to revert to 7.2.1.

    Hmmmm... You mean I just noticed this now... I see. Well, thanks for straightening this out for me, anyway.  I still can't believe the playhead won't play around the cut when previewing (hitting spacebar) in trim mode, just as it does when you play around the cut outside of trim mode. (shift-K). In Avid you can see a ghost cut/playhead move while trimming, but I guess that's neither here nor there.

  • Bug: scrolling with mouse scroll wheel while dragging tracks no longer works

    After upgrading to Spotify for Mac 1.0.2.6, I can no longer use my mouse's scroll wheel while dragging tracks to a different position in a playlist. This is an important feature when working with long playlists. Steps to reproduce:Create a playlist that extends past the bottom of the windowClick and begin dragging the first song on the playlist downwardUse your mouse's scroll wheel to scroll the playlist down. It will not scroll.

    Hey ,
    Thanks for letting us know.
    We don't have any update on this yet and we'll pass the information on to the right team.

  • How do you 'fix' samples in the timeline so they cant be moved out of sync?

    I am audio editing imported final cut pro files with sound and picture. The problem i am having is when i double click on individual samples, i sometimes nudge them left or right - out of sync with the picture. After 2 days editing i estimate i have spent half that time trying to re-sync stuff manually - a nightmare. In Logic you can 'fix' all your samples so they can be moved across tracks, but not within the timeline. Any suggestions appreciated.

    Hi Mathrah,
    I haven't found a way to lock the clips--I don't think STP lets you do this.
    Here are a few things to consider:
    1) You might want to tweak your double-click mouse timing in System Preferences. I'm suggesting this because (at least the way I'm using the app) I've never run into this.
    2) You can always control-click/right-click on a clip and select "open as project" or "open in editor" --this would make sure that you aren't moving the clip as you open it.
    Also, if you actually do want to move clips across tracks and not have them move in time, you can hold down the shift key while you drag to lock the clip on the timeline as you drag the clip up and down.
    Now my last point makes me wonder if you could just always hold down the shift key when you double click on the clips to edit them (locking their horizontal position while you double-click)--this might be worth a try.

  • Help! Premiere Pro runaway timeline playback with multicam and Cineform Neo clips

    Hello,
    I have experienced a problem with a "runaway timeline" in Premiere Pro CS5.5 - not always, but fairly often. Once playback begins, nothing short of restarting the computer can stop it.  I don't know if this is a bug that needs fixing or something else.  I am a recent Mac / FCP7 switcher to the Adobe product line.
    My machine is a Sandy Bridge i7 quad core chip on Windows 7 with 16GB of RAM.  I do not have an Nvidia card in the system yet.  I am running Premiere Pro 5.5 using a multicam timeline with Cineform Neo clips at 1080p (four camera angles).  The initial "live edit" of the multicam went well, and I am now trying to go back and tweak the exact edits.  Playing back the multicam sequence to check the program edits has resulted in three "lock ups" where nothing will stop the playback (video and audio), not the space bar, mouse, escape key, nothing.  The mouse still moves normally but none of the buttons in Premiere Pro "click".  Interestingly, I can open other programs and hit restart on the computer, but the timeline just keeps on playing.  All clips are converted to Cineform Neo at 1080p.  The computer is showing 56% of CPU being used and roughly 45% of RAM.
    I don't what other info would apply - no other apps are open when this happens and none were open before this (clean boot with Premiere being the first and only program run).
    If anyone has any suggestions on how to fix or avoid this, I would be very appreciative.
    Thank you in advance,
    Videoguy 16x9

    Hi Jim,
    Thank you for your reply.  I like the machine, and I did try the clips without converting but the HDV and DSLR clips alongside the XDCAM clips all in one multiclip really didn't flow so well.  I also love First Light for color grading and correction (part of Cineform Neo) - the color correction is all in the metadata, so there is no slow down or drag on the system during playback.
    I have an OWC 4TB RAID connected via eSata which should be plenty fast, especially on the Sandy Bridge chipset and 16GB of RAM, but the clips just didn't feel light or zippy.  Coming from a Final Cut Pro background, I'm so used to transcoding everything to ProRes (and I used to be on Adobe and then Vegas so I was used to Cineform's workflow), that going back to Cineform seemed like a good solution.  Cineform is also the format we are using as a mastering format for program materials.
    It all plays very well, the four cameras in the multiclip, the trouble is that as I'm watching the playback of the mixed multiclip, it just keeps on playing.  Nothing stops it, it's very weird.  Especially since it continues to playback perfectly and I can also open other apps and work around in them (trying to unstick Premiere).  Still the timeline continues to play, perfect video and sound without skipping a beat.  I haven't let it reach the end (long form program) so I don't know how that would affect it.  I wish I knew if it was a Premiere thing, a Cineform thing or something in the cross talk.  In any case, I seem to be the only one with this weird side effect.......

  • How to show MouseOver effect on dropable region while dragging a MovieClip?

    Hello friends,
    I am creating Drag and drop flash application.
    While dragging an instance of a movieclip I want also the dropable region to show effect like MouseOver case.
    So that end user can confirm that they are dropping the item in right region.
    Here the mouse is moved while it is kept clicked
    Plz help me,
    Thanks.
    Venkat

    Thanks for taking interest.
    I did the first part of your reply already, but  How to check if a MovieClip is being dragged?
    Say, I have two MovieClips
    TargetToDrop_mc
    DropableRegion_mc
    TargetToDrop_mc.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, gotMouseDown);
    TargetToDrop_mc.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP, gotMouseUp);
    TargetToDrop_mc.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER, gotMouseOver);
    TargetToDrop_mc.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OUT, gotMouseOut);
    DropableRegion_mc.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, gotMouseDown);
    DropableRegion_mc.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP, gotMouseUp);
    DropableRegion_mc.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER, gotMouseOver);
    DropableRegion_mc.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OUT, gotMouseOut);
    function gotMouseDown(EventReceived:MouseEvent):void {
        EventReceived.currentTarget.startDrag ();
    function gotMouseUp(EventReceived:MouseEvent):void{
        EventReceived.currentTarget.stopDrag();
    function gotMouseOver(EventReceived:MouseEvent):void{
        EventReceived.currentTarget.alpha=0.5;
    function gotMouseOut(EventReceived:MouseEvent):void{
        EventReceived.currentTarget.alpha=0.7;
    Now plze guide me on basis of above.
    Thanks,
    Venkat

  • Gestures while dragging objects on Lion 10.7.2

    Prior to the 10.7.2 Lion update I was able to drag a file and while holding it activate a gesture to move the file wherever I wanted. It was a really useful feature that helped work faster and I was hoping there is a way to have it again. Any sugestions? Is it a bug that will be fixed (which i really really hope)?.

    It appears that at least one developer has filed a bug with Apple on this.
    The bug report is mirrored at OpenRadar: OS X 10.7.2: Gestures not enabled while dragging files
    (I too find this immensely frustrating.)

  • FCE freezes when moving between clips!  Help?

    Not with all transitions, but with some, sometimes even moving between clips from the same batch of film(!) FCE will stop playing through in the timeline, sound will jerk to a halt, and I'll then see what I call the "Colorful wheel of death" as FCE tries to deal with it and stops responding, making me Force Quit, which is a Jedi ability I now have much use in, btw... I have tried to Trash Prefs but still no good, and as I am fairly new to this software, with less than a year's experience, I need help!
    I have three major projects to do before year's end!
    What do I do?

    First be sure you've correctly trashed your preferences. Follow the advice here: http://www.fcpbook.com/Misc1.html
    Be sure everything is rendered before you playback. Be sure none of the windows (particularly Canvas) are overlapping.
    Move your RT playback quality to low.
    Sometimes it helps to reduce the opacity of an offending clip to 99% (via the motion tab in the viewer)before playing your sequence in the timeline. I can't explain why this works but its saved me alot.

  • MouseUpEvent stops working while Dragging MovieClip

    There is a mouseUpEvent listener attached to the stage in the main class, while dragging the movieClip the mouseUpEvent doesnot trigger the handler and the movieClip gets sticks to the mouse. While the item is being dragged and the mouse is moved away from the movieClip i.e somewhere not on the item but on the stage the mouseUp is detected.
    Edit: Here is the scenario I am using a static (Singleton) class as a movieClip as a "DragManager". Whenever a movieClip has to be dragged it is passed to the DragManager and is added as a child, when a mouseUp from stage is detected another static function of dragManager is called to stop the drag and put the movieClip on the appropriate layer. Here is the static function in the DragManager which is called on MouseDown from variouslayers.
    public static function startDragMethod(item:Item):void
    instance.addChild(item); //This is the instance of the DragManager
    var boundArea:Rectangle = new Rectangle(0,0,610,760);
    item.startDrag(false,boundArea);
    In the constructor of the main class I add the eventHandler for the MouseUpEvent
    this.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP,stageMou seUpHandler);
    The MouseUpHandler in the main class
    private function stageMouseUpHandler(event:MouseEvent):void
    DragManager.itemMouseUpHandler(event);
    If there is something wrong with technique please guide me, my goal is to implement drag drop between various layers and with as less coupling as possible.

    1.  by "main" class do you mean document class?
    2.  does a trace() in stageMouseUpHandler fail to execute with that mouseup event?

  • Disable snapping while dragging

    i just want to know how to disable the snap while dragging the clips in the time line so i can match the exact lip sync of my video into my music.. in snapping its hard to match it.. Thank you..

    AE will quantize to discrete frames and how precisely it does depends on your framerate settings for the comp and the footage interpretation. It's simply inherent in how video works - you couldn't go inbetween two frames, since no data exists there and was never recorded in teh first place. If you are having difficulties, adjust your settings. The only otehr way eould be to use time-remapping/ timewarping, but still, it will never be 100% sample exact. It's just impossible.

  • Disabling 'Show window contents while dragging' also disables window snap - is there a workaround?

    When I disable 'Show window contents while dragging' in Performance Options, it also automatically disables the ability to snap windows the left and right and corners by dragging them. I have an older computer, and disabling this really improves the performance,
    but I'd really like to keep the ability to snap the windows around, as it's one of my favorite features.
    Is there a way to just disable showing window contents while dragging without disabling the window snap feature?

    Hey there. I've been trying to figure out why my snap wasn't working, and this is the only post I've found that mentioned it.
    I found snap wasn't working on my machines sometimes and realised it happens after I start an RDP session which disables the "show window contents while dragging" option, but then doesn't seem to enable it properly after the session ends.
    When I check the option, it is already ticked, so I need to untick and re-tick, then apply and snap starts working again.
    I don't know if there is any connection with the "Prevent windows from being automatically arranged when moved to the edge of the screen" option under the mouse ease of access settings.
    It does seem like a new issue though as it doesn't happen under Win8
