Timeline Clip Encoding

This queery is pertinent to CS4 in particular.
In previous versions of premiere pro2 and cs3 if I wanted to export a series of small eg. 10 second clips from the timeline to use in another app I would use the export movie option or adobe media encoder. This would be pretty much quick and efficient.
I'm wanting to use CS4 to do exactly the same thing. The problem is the clip is placed in the render queue and I start the app but it seems to take around 10 minutes to export for example an 8 second clip.
In this case its a HDTV project and I'm exporting MPEG2 1440X1080 25fps (same as the project video)
Why the long, long time to wait to export such small sections. The system is running a Q6600 Quad 2.4mhz, 4gb ram on WinXP32bit.

What a coincidence!
I can't guarantee trashing the prefs will help you but it certainly helped me 5 minutes ago!
Having replied to you I clicked on the FCE icon in the dock to make FCE visible again (I had hidden it earlier).
It did not re-appear and I could do absolutely nothing with it.
Eventually I made it Force Quit, restarted it, hid it and once again it did not re-appear.
I went through the whole process again with no luck so I trashed the preferences.
Result ...... I can now hide it and make it come back normally!

  • Error when double clicking a timeline clip

    Hello,
I'm editing a movie on the latest and legal version of Mac's Premiere Pro CC. I began working on various projects and some days ago I merged them into one. Now, when I double click a timeline clip to preview or modify the in/out point of it an issue closes the software.
Message: Sorry, a serious error has occurred that requires Adobe Premiere Pro to shut down. We will attempt to save your current project.
If I double click the same clip in the project window the preview works without problems.
Everything was working perfectly on the independent projects. I have done that thousand times by importing various projects into one and it have always worked well.
I'm working with Apple ProRes files.
    Thnks for your time!

First thing to try is clearing the preferences: with Premiere closed, go to Documents/Adobe/Premiere Pro/8.0 and rename the folder "Profile-<username>." Launch PPro and see if the crash still happens. It's kind of a generic troubleshooting step, but a good place to start.
Also, go to File>Project Settings>General and check the Renderer setting. If it's set to use GPU acceleration, set it to Software Only. [Given that your graphics card has only 1/4GB of RAM, GPU acceleration should not even be available as an option. But given some recent changes, it's worth double-checking.]

  • Relinking timeline clips to browser

I am working on a pretty long project in which in noticed recently the timeline clips are not connected to the ones in the browser. Meaning, when I try to reveal master clip, FCP asks if Id like to add it to the browser, even though the clip is in it. Is there any easy way to relink these?

Are you using multiple projects for this? Say one for the Sequences, and one for the FOOTAGE? If so, you cannot match back to the browser.

  • What is this Timeline clip icon?

Hi, I'm sure this has a really simple answer, but I am stumped.
When I hover over a video timeline clip, there appears a small round icon in the upper right and left margins of the clip. I can drag either icon inwards, resulting in what looks like a fade; but when I replay the clip, nothing has changed.
This is not the fade in the Video Animator, which I can also move inwards; but this one does produce an expected fade.
    Thanks very much,
    Sonny

Thanks so much for all your help. SOLVED!
Yes, it must be my sloppy mismatching of Project and clip audio settings. I created a brand new Project (the last one had an existing clip, so I don't know its settings), inserted a clip, and the fade buttons work perfectly!
That brings up a topic that I am not too sure about. Suppose I mix old SD and HD clips. FCP takes the thinking out of it. It just works, most of the time. All of the clips have been optimized on import. But if I am to mix SD and HD, which should I use first to establish Project settings?
Is there a good reference that I might read to help understand better?

  • How do I make sure that CS5.5 Merge clips encodes Audio at correct volume?

    Windows 7 x 64, 2 TB, 12 GB RAM,
I am using the Premiere Pro CS5.5 Trial (full version), particularly because of the new Merge clips feature.
The Merge clips works intuitively and easily; this is a fantastic advantage. I am creating these clips to use in Captivate 5.0.
But, when encoded, the Audio volume has blown out so that it shatters the ear drums.
I am not sure whether this is a PP problem, or an AME 5.5 problem.
A second problem is this with the Merge Clips. In the Project panel, if you check the Duration of a Merge clip (in PP) it shows the original duration even although it has been altered on the Timeline.
If I encode the video clip separately from the Audio,  I can adjust the Audio volume in Captivate, but, this:
    1) increases the overall file sizes-something I don't want for the web.
    2) the video duration and the audio duration do not match, even though they did on the Timeline. This did not happen in CS5.
I know this is a new version, but has anyone any ideas that I might try. I have alread delayed my project waiting for CS5.5 to become available.

Sounds like Media Encoder is actually recording the audio as a stereo file but the audio is panned to one side.
Check that you haven't accidentally panned the audio in the mixer to one side.

  • Can you see which timeline clips are being used in Media Browser?

I'm a relatively new user and may not be familiar enough with cs5.5 but
is there a way to see what clips are being used on the editing timeline in the media browser.
I open premiere pro - Project is loaded. I edit the scene until it is finished.
When I look over at the media browser, all my raw clips (some of which I'm
using on the editing timeline) look the same - I can't tell which ones I using on the timeline.
The reason I ask - when I fiinish editing a scene it would be nice to glance over at the
media brower folder where my raw clips are located - easily see which ones I'm using because they
are highlighted or checked and then delete the ones I no longer need.
Is there a way to do this now?
    Thanks
    Jeff

I dont think so  but a better way is to look in the top of the Project Window and there is a drop down that will show you all the useage instances of the clip.  You can click on them to go to them in the timeline.

  • Timeline/Clip Browser/Playback all grey in Adobe Premiere CC 2014

I have a project I've been working on for weeks without issue, and then randomly my timeline froze and I have been unable to play any of the clips or timelines that I've created. The playhead will still scrub, so the application is not frozen, but all of my playback windows are totally greyed out. Been using Premiere for years and never had this happen. The media is not offline. Any thoughts? I've attached screenshots below.
    Late 2013 Retina Macbook Pro
    2.3 GHz Intel Core i7
    16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2048 MB
    OS X 10.9.2

I have had it happen in two separate projects now. If I go five or six autosaves back then I can open a project that works okay, but at that point there are time consuming edits that are missing.
I just tried importing the corrupt project into a brand new project and it seems to be working okay, but I'd like to prevent it from happening again.

  • How to connect jpeg to timeline clip replacing video but keeping audio

I put some video in the project timeline and now I would like to connect several still pictures (jpeg) at specific points in this video so that you hear the sound from the video but only see the still image.
Connecting my jpeg to the clip in the timeline is not a problem. Once connected, however, the still picture only covers a part of the video (i.e. only the center part of the video) during playback. The jpeg is superimposed on the center part of the video, but the sides of the video still show up as played.
What i would like is for the jpeg to completely superimpose the video in the clip, but be able to listen to the audio story told by the video in the background .
I tried resizing the jpeg to 16:9 aspect ration before importing it, but this made no difference. I have also considered doing the connecting in the other direction, i.e. to place the jpeg into the primary timeline and connect the audio part of the video to the jpeg. This might work, but I would rather not do this because it would require adjusting the size of many video clips.
I am a novice, so any help would be much appreciated.
    Francisco

    Problem solved.
To a large extent the solution is illustrated here around minute 13:47 in this tutorial by Jerad Hill:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2F-Y6iMdtQg&feature=related
Here it is suggested that you double click in the picture and zoom in and out to get the picture adjusted to take up the whole screen. This you do by opening the inspector, on the video tab, and the transform tool. You use the scale slider to increase or decrease the scale of your photograph (or connected video clip) so that it fits the screen.
I will leave this discussion posted just in case it helps someone else.

  • Timeline clips

I am using FCPX and I am still trying to figure it out, i already learn a lot.
Her are the things that I really need to know how cna i do it...sorry to bother the good folks here...
I need to my video not to be connected all the time, I tried to disable the snap but when I delete a portion the clips moves to the left... please help...
I need to trim the audio but when I drop the footage the audio and video are together, I need to have a control for audio only... please help....
I need to put a rubberband in the video or audio but I can't find where it is...
    -:( sos....
    Final Cut Pro X

Use the Position tool (P) if you want to place a clip in a location on the timeline and not have the clip ripple. It will put a gap clip between the head of the clip and the tail of the preceding clip.
Use the Range tool (R) to get the "rubberband".
Spend a little time familiarizing yourself with FCP X by reading up on it or watching some of the excellent tutorials online.

  • How can I get my original timeline clip appearance back?

    Hello to all!
Feel sheepish to ask this. Was poking ignorantly into the features of the project library of a project I had on the timeline. Something I did made the project on the timeline to change in appearance to this:
Can anyone teach me what I had done to get the appearance of clips to change and what I should do to get the appearance back!
    Regards.

  • Oil Paint effect to Video Timeline Clip

Check out this video I put together for this question,
    http://youtu.be/tPiNYqk3BcQ
As you can see I'm just playing around w/ the effect/amounts etc.
I had to manually apply this effect at every frame in the Photoshop's Timeline, which takes a to long... I would love to do it to whole clips. What's the best workflow for that?
A way I tried w little success before was to split the clip into individual frames, (forget how to do that) & then apply a batch command to all the pics, I remember trying this method & it not working w/ Oil Paint effect.
    Thanks for your help.

You can apply the Filter to an imported clip in Video Timeline Animation as opposed to Frame Animation.
But if you are trying to animate the settings of the Filter I guess you may be trying to fit a round peg in a square hole (or however that figure of speech goes) and might be better served with using the proper program for the task, possibly After Effects.

  • PS CS6 Filters greyed out for Timeline clips - what's wrong?

    Hi
I've just watched an Adobe TV video by Julianne Kost about video features in PS CS6.
At one point she converts a video clip into a Smart Object in order to apply a PS filter, but when I do this, the entire Filters menu is greyed out.
The mp4 clip plays normally in the Timeline otherwise.
Is there something I have to do to make this work?
    Cheers
    Richard

I tried the same procedure again, but this time the filters were available. Not sure what was different - will repost if I can reproduce original issue.
    Thanks

  • Getting rid of "tall" timeline clips.

I ran into an issue while using FCP today:
As I was attempting to add a cross fade to the end of one of my clips, I misjudged the placement of my fingers and pressed Shift+T instead of Command+T and now the clips in this particular sequence have gotten bigger, but I didn't zoom in, I just made the video and their complimentary audio clips "taller."
So I know what I did, I'm just completely stuck on how to undo it. Can anyone out there assist me? All my other sequences were not affected, fyi.
    Thanks,
    Danzig

    Welcome to the forum Danzigzagz.
Just hit shift-t a few times and you'll get back to what you had.
If you look at the lower left of your timeline and you'll see a box with 4 ascendingly taller rectangles. Hovering over it you'll see the prompt 'Toggle Timeline Track Height / Shift-t' This function makes the height of your track taller/shorter.

  • Determining which audio channel a timeline clip came from

    Hello,
How can you tell whether the source of an audio clip in the timeline came from channel 1 or channel 2 on the master? I've tried Clip Properties but that only shows which timeline track it's in (which is fairly obvious if you've just selected it).
    Many thanks!!
    -- Sean

Sean, its a very good question that sadly has an hopelessly inadequate answer.
Of course FCP does know exactly which specific channel of audio (from a multi-channel source) that it's referencing, but there's just no easy way of determining which channel that is after the edit has been made. In some situations I can see exactly how and why that would certainly be very useful, just as it would be useful (especially in fast turn around editing) to be able to simply reassign an edit instance's audio source channel after the fact eg to be able to target an audio clip instance and simply switch it's content from say ch1 to ch2 of the source.
As it stands, although it's possible to do this in other NLE's its not yet possible in FCP. As always, you can send feedback to Apple's FCP development team at: http://www.apple.com/feedback/finalcutpro.html
Ok, heres what you can do If its absolutely essential that you correctly identify your edit's audio clip's channel sources: you need to export your sequences as XML files (File > Export > XML). The exported XML will contains the full make up of your edit, including every clip instances audio channel sources. Its not especially human readable but neither is it encrypted, its just a plain text file .... so you can open it up in Text Edit and figure it out.
    Cheers
