Timeline completely disappearing

While animating in Flash CS5 I have had all sorts of strange things happen, which never occurred in CS3 or CS4. Most recently, after drawing an image inside a movieclip symbol, I returned to the root timeline to noticed i had lost my entire timeline and every single layer. A lot of work lost. All I had was a blank stage and no matter what I tried I could not get it back. The timeline panel was there, just completely empty.
Prior to this, whenever I published a .swf to test my animation, i had several frames worth of blank stage before the animation was shown. For instance, my stage colour was a pale green, and all I saw was pale green for a split second. This got progressively worse before the issue mentioned above occurred.
Another strange thing is that I get a completely random moviclip play at the end of my .swf. So, when my actual timeline animation ends, a random clip commences playing on a continual loop. Sometimes this movieclip isn't even used in the actual file.
Like I said - wierd, annoying, time wasting things are happening OFTEN, and I was wondering if anyone else is having these issues, and if there are any fixes/suggestions.

One thing we can try is to reset and recreate your preferences.
Here's how:
1. Delete your user configuration folder that's located in:
Window XP - C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe\Flash<version>
Window Vista & Window 7- C:\Users\<username>[AppData]\Local\Adobe\Flash<version>

CD/DVD completely disappears after Windows XP updates

I had this happen twice now, on my 3 year old Toshiba Satellite P35-s605.
The internal CD/DVD drive works fine, then all of a sudden, it completely disappears from the system. Discs do not play, and the drive does not show up in Explorer.
Likewise, it's the same with my external USB CD/DVD drive; it works fine, then it no longer shows up even though the USB "boing" indicates that the computer reads that a device has been connected.
The last time it happened, I reinstalled the original recovery disk. That seemed to correct the problem. It disappeared again after a Windows XP update (I have not yet added any software besides the OS).
Has anyone had this problem, and has anyone solved it?

I have never heard of a Windows Update causing that sort of problem. It sounds like hardware.
Have you ever tried this fix?

My timeline table disappears when i scroll down to the bottom

Hi, i have put my images on after effects and everything was going well like normal, until i uploaded my final 12-20 images (im using after effects for my final 3 minute animation for uni), when i tried to scroll down to rezize these images and to make them 2f long the timeline table disappears everytime, also i managed to see that the frames with the problem are not the normal purple colour but are a blackish grey colour... ive tried deleting the frames and re uploading them but the same problem occured. I saved my work closed down my computer and re-opened it and the problem was still there. i also tried pasting the frames into a new composition but again... same problem. Is there a way to solve this problem as this animation is due in tomoz and i need to start adding sounds on audition and premiere but the animation needs to be finished so i can sync the sounds at the correct places

In addition to Todd's curiousity, I'm curious about something else: is this a SEQUENCE of images, such as stop-frame animation?
If the original file names have been retained, they're probably in the order in which they were taken, and you can import the lot of them as an image sequence. To get the on-2 look you seek, you can use the resulting clip's interpret footage settings. Select the target frame rate you want, and multiply that number by two. You're all set.

How can a calendar completely disappear?

Every few months I have an issue with iCal. One or more of my calendars COMPLETELY disappear. I have an iPhone with a list of calendars on the phone and on iCloud. The iCal application on my laptop only has iCloud. Calendars seem to magically vanish from iCloud while they remain on my phone. It's driving me crazy!!! I'm about to look for a different calendar app to use. Any suggestions? I need my MacBook Pro to sync with my iPhone.

The calendar "Work" was on my MacBook and iPhone Calendar until yesterday morning. On my iPhone, it's listed in "ON MY IPHONE" list but not in "ICLOUD". If I understand correctly, if the only list I have on my MacBook is iCloud, then it must have been in iCloud. What I don't understand is how it suddenly vanished from ICLOUD. ALL of my meetings - basically my whole work life - literally vanished. This is not the first time. It happened a few several months ago and I can't remember how we got it back.

I am also having the same problem. I purchased the iphone 5s (Unlocked) from kuwait. I can use the facetime in my zain sim (kuwait sim) when i change the sim in srilanka (Carrier Dialog) the face time app completely disappears. but in roaming for kuwait sim it works perfectly. before i have purchased iphone 4s from kuwait and it has facetime even in srilanka(carrier Dialog).
Is there any issue with the apple software for 5s? becoz till today no one is able to answer this query?

Signatures Completely Disappeared in Mail

My signatures in Mail have completely disappeared, POOF! They have disappeared from the "All" box in the Signatures tab of the Preferences.
However, when I go to Library and then Mail folder, I have a signatures folder that is full of my correct signatures and the SignatuesByAccount.plist.
So, how do signatures disappear from the "All" box, and can I get them back without cutting and pasting every one of them?

this is the correct way it should work. when i do this, the signatures stick for a while, then the account reverts to 'none' with no signatures associated with it. this happens again and again even if i re-assign them. any thoughts?

.docx file completely disappeared

A .docx file I created yesterday has completely disappeared. I saved it either to my dropbox or my desktop (mac os x 10.8.5). I could not find it by name, content, date created either in spotlight or in time machine. In my Office 2011 Autorecovery folder it was also missing; in fact, in that folder there is nothing more recent than 2013-09. What should my next step be?

I was going crazy. I discovered this program and used it on my work PC and was able to get the file off my Flip camera even though it was "erased". Good luck

After appearing for a few seconds, all iCal items COMPLETELY DISAPPEAR.

Ok, so this is a weird one.
Today I used iSync to synchronize my address book onto my cell phone which has worked fine in the past. The iCal option was unchecked since my phone does not support Calendar synchronization. I backed up my iCal and my Address Book prior to synching.
Afterwards, when I went to look at my iCal, I got a flash view of all my items, and then after a few seconds, everything disappeared. Completely. Everything. Gone.
So, I quit iCal, and re-opened it. The exact same thing happened. I was able to see all of my items, and then everything completely disappeared. I have since quite and re-opened iCal about 15 times, and each time, the same thing happens. Flash of my items, and then they are gone.
I have tried "Reverting to my Backup" which works for a moment, but then all of those items disappear as well.
Does anyone have any idea what in the world could be going on here? This is SO weird.

When I crop photos, they completely disappear

I import photos into photoshop and lately, when I crop them, the image completely disappears. I don't know what I'm doing differently than before. Any suggestions? Thanks

No need to apologize, Jim. I think your rant was justified. For years people have been telling me how easy the Mac was to use. Imagine my frustration when I finally learned from friends and users that it takes weeks or months to make the transition from Windows to Mac.
Still, I agree that I acted to too hastily when I returned my mini-mac to the store only three days after I bought it.
I'm going to try again, this time with an iMac. This time I'll keep it. Since this thread is for the mini-Mac only, I'll probably be starting a new one for the iMac.
Why did I decide to try again? Well, I do like the faster speed and compact hardware of the Macs. I also like the fact that I can install Windows and use that for my programs until I transition completely to Mac, IF I make the complete transition.

Results completely disappear, then reappear, then disappear, then reappear.

I am so frustrated with Spotlight.
When I search my computer using Spotlight, Spotlight will bring up results, and before I can click on file, the results completely disappear, then reappear, then disappear, then reappear.
Is this normal?
Is there something I need to do to stop this?

Kim could solve this problem in another thread as a side effect of fixing a related problem that affected searching in Mail, and has asked me to post the solution here. I don’t frequent this forum, but I’m pretty sure the solution is well known here, maybe just not that it could have a bearing on the weird behavior Kim was observing.
Open /Applications/Utilities/Terminal, type the following command, and press <Return> (you can copy the command here and paste it in Terminal):
sudo mdutil -E -i on /
The -E option tells Spotlight to delete any already existing index data (so that it’s rebuilt from scratch all over again). The -i on option ensures that indexing is enabled. Finally, the ‘/’ at the end means "apply this command to the startup disk".
After entering the previous command in Terminal, you’ll be prompted for your administrator password. Just type it blindly (you won’t see any feedback of the keystrokes while you type it) and then press <Return>.
For best results, quit Mail and don’t play too much with your disk while Spotlight does its job -- i.e. avoid files being created/modified/deleted, mail being downloaded, etc.

A garageband project completely disappeared.

Garage band project completely disappeared. The only thing I did recently that might have caused it was backing up my hard drive. Is this possible? I'm a bit leery of connecting the back up harddrive for fear that i might lose more! Suggestions?

But how did you backup? Is your backup drive directly connected (USB, Thunderbolt) or a network attached storage? Did you use backup software that came with the drive, or Time Machine, or did you simply copy the project by drag-and-drop to the drive? Copying between drives should not delete a project from your system system drive, but if you hold down the options-key while dragging a project to a different disk, the project will be moved instead of copied and deleted from the original location.

My toolbar has completely disappeared. I still have the back arrows on the far left, but everything else is just ... gone. I've tried stopping Firefox and restarting several times, but nothing is changing. All the toolbars are checked in the view menu.
