Timeline dead in Premiere Pro CC?

I've been using Premiere Pro CS6 long enough to get used to it. Today, I downloaded the Premiere Pro CC trial to see how I like it. Well, it loads and plays clips in the preview monitor just file, but that's all folks!!  I am totally unable to drag any kind of clip/file/image/audio...anything onto the timeline!! When I try, the cursor icon just shows the circle with a line through it (I call it the 'nope, can't do that' icon). Also, the timeline just shows two empty tracks instead of the multiple tracks CS6 shows. This is on a pretty fast Win 7 machine, and the present Premiere CC setup is the default, as it was installed.
Well, without a working timeline the program is pretty much useless. I'm sure it must be something I've overlooked, but what?    Thanks!

Thanks for the tip! I was able to start a timeline with the file>new>sequence. Would have liked to use the New item button for this, but since the Media Browser is in a different window then the New item button, dropping clips and files to this button is a bit tricky.
One other thing, CS6 allowed one to expand the tracks right on the timeline (which I notice in CC is not a fixed window like in CS6) to adjust audio volume or balance with keyframes). CC doesn't allow for expanded tracks, so how does one make these adjustments?
I have and like After Effects CC, but after a few hours of working with Premiere CC, I want to go back to Premiere CS6. Have other people felt this way??           Thanks!

  • Make timeline more like Premiere Pro?

On Elements, the audio and video on the timeline are coupled, one right beneath the other. Is there any way to make it function more like the Premiere Pro timeline with audio and video completely separate?

Im just an anachronism. I like my complete, customizable and controllable Timelines, ála Pro. I did not use other PE versions before PE4, so do not know exactly when Adobe chose to move to the new, streamlined, sleek Timeline. However, I miss the old style, that gave me so much control. This is probably the biggest reason that I have not embraced PE (over my PP2), even for shorter Projects, like I had intended.
Now, I am not trying to sell one version, over another. I just like the way that PPs Timeline works and have grown to love and know its workflow. So much depends on what one is used to and how they like to work. I am just hoping that CS4 Pro does not go the way of PE, regardless of how nice it might appear.

  • How do I shorten the length of the timeline in Adobe Premiere Pro?

This is my first time using Adobe Premiere Pro.  I created a slideshow of images with music. The entire length with all of the images ends up being around 40 minutes.  The length of the entire timeline is over 10 hours.  I had finished my slideshow and exported it in a .mov format.  The exported file ended up being a 10 hour long video with the first 40 minutes being the actual slideshow and the rest of it was blank.  That file ended up being about 140 GB in size.  All that I want to do is to cut off the rest of the time after the first 40 minutes.  PLEASE HELP!!!!

Set In and Out Points or the Work Area Bar to the Head and Tail of your edit.
The when you Export..use either of those as a setting to tell the exporter what  to export.  There is a Menu for it in AME.

  • Preview Timeline Issues in Premiere Pro CC

    Hi,
I am wokring on my feature film and since the last 2-3 days I have notice my PREVIWE RENDERS on the timeline stagger. When i give for rendering, the render just keeps increasing, the number of frames increase...sort of like a variable frame render...and just goes on and on !
I uninstalled Premiere CC and installed, changed hard drives. Still the problem persists !
Please suggest what to do !
    Thanks
    2014 Macbook Pro 15inch Retina 2.3Ghz Intel Core i7 Mac OSX 10.9.5

To get the fix for this bug, you will need to update. But I suspect you don't absolutely need the fix for the bug as there are workarounds. There's probably just a small number of problem spots in the sequence that are causing the issue. Perhaps only one. So render the sequence in segments defined by In/Out points until you find a problem spot. Then simply skip that point.
All of which begs the question as to whether you really need to render at all. In case you're not aware, doing so is entirely optional for purposes of smoother playback. If your computer is powerful enough, it may not be necessary.

  • Grey area in timeline area in Premiere Pro CS5.5

Can someone please tell me what the greyed-out area means in the bottom of the time ruler at the top of the Timeline  panel
    John Q.

For that "thinner harder In & Out," I think that you might be referring to the WAB (Work Area Bar), which has slightly different uses. This ARTICLE points out some aspects of the WAB, which can be useful for several operations. Please ignore the old screen-caps, as the GUI is much more streamlined now - however the WAB still looks about the same, and functions the same.
The Help File also has a lot of very useful info on the WAB (and with more up-to-date images... )
    Good luck,

  • Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 crashing when importing HDV Video

For some reason I keep getting crashes when importing HDV (720p60) video into the timeline of Adobe Premiere Pro CS6.  This has happened on two different machines, with similar specs.
Per the suggested guidelines, here are the specifics:
    Version of Premiere Pro: CS6, Version 6.0.5 (001 (MC:264587))
    All updates have been installed.
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.8.5.
Source footage: HDV 720p60 video in .MOV container.
Full text of error message: "Sorry, a serious error has occured that requires Adobe Premiere Pro to shut down.  We will attempt to save your current project."
Link to full crash report: http://goo.gl/Gn8Bzn
Crash occurs when trying to import HDV .MOV file.
This is a consistent problem when importing .MOV files of this type.
Complete Adobe Creative Suite is installed.  Also using Episode Pro encoding software from Telestream to prepare HDV video.  No other external video hardware or codecs installed.
Yes, I am using the Mecury Playback Engine GPU acceleration.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me figure this one out.

  • Premiere Pro keeps shutting down and I can't get rid of video clip from timeline

Lately, Premiere Pro keeps bringing up a message when I'm working on my project that says "serious error, Adobe Premier Pro needs to shut down". It's happened four times now. I've tried restarting the computer, uninstalling some programs I wasn't using, and even running updates that were needed. Still no luck. Also, in between shutdowns, there's a clip on my timeline that I imported from YouTube, and I can't get rid of it when I click "Cut" or "Clear". Any idea on why these things are happening?

  • Can't Move Audio Clips in Timeline After Expanding to View Waveforms (Premiere Pro CC 2014.2)

So, this seems to be a bit of a weird one, and I'd be pretty stoked if it ended up being something silly that I'm doing wrong, but I can't for the life of me figure out what that might be.
As the title suggests, I can't use the mouse to move some audio clips in a timeline once I expand the track to view the waveforms. This appears to only happen with independent audio clips (WAV. AIFF, MP3, etc), and not with clips attached to video. Also, it's worth noting that I don't have track keyframes turned on. I was hoping that was it, but it wasn't.
    So, what happens is this:
    1) I drag an audio clip down to the timeline (I can drag it onto an existing track, or drag to the bottom of the sequence and create a new track. Neither option seems to get a different result.).
    2) So long as the track isn't expanded and the waveform isn't visible, I can move the clip left, right, or up and down to a different track.
    3) As soon as I expand the track to view the waveform this functionality goes out the window. When this issue happens I can use the keyboard to nudge left and right, but that's about all the movement I have.
    4) It's almost as though the track becomes corrupt. The lanes for the track don't redraw properly, and the track is pretty much unusable. I can't put anything into it, and I can't take anything out. All I can do is delete the track and start again.
Complicating issues is that this doesn't always happen, but instead is one of those "vast majority of the time" issues. I can't see any rhyme or reason for why it works or doesn't. I seem to do the exact same thing, but occasionally get different results. It doesn't matter what type of file I'm using (WAV, AIFF, etc), and this only happens with independent audio clips.
Once again, I don't have track keyframing turned on when this happens. Believe me, I wish that was it.
I have already filed a couple of bug reports about this over the last month or so, but haven't heard anything yet. I was wondering if anyone else was having the same issue, and if so, whether they had any workarounds.
    Mandatory system info:
    Windows 7 Professional SP1 (64-Bit)
    Intel i7-3820
    32GB RAM
    Nvidia GTX 980 (350.12)
    Premiere Pro CC 2014.2

    Update:
I was just looking to post a screenshot of the timeline when I discovered something interesting. As soon as I use the vertical scroll bar to the right of the sequence, the tracks start to work again. Close off the waveform and the clip goes haywire. Move the scroll bar a tiny bit (or a lot), and suddenly the clip starts working.
    Pretty bizarre.
The good news is that for the time being that could be a workaround, though it would be great for this to not happen at all.

  • When clicking an audio clip on the timeline in Premiere Pro CC 2014, it duplicates it on a different track and makes it impossible to work.

I'm experiencing a disturbing issue as it actually prevents me to do the work in Premiere. I will put as much info as possible:
    1) Project started on a different computer (the editor), PC with Premiere Pro CC,
    2) Now opened on my Imac with Premiere Pro CC 2014,
    3) I am not editing, simply trying to move audio clips on different tracks to export audio tracks only,
    THE ISSUE:
    1) Here is my timeline:
    2) When I select an audio clip to highlight it, Premiere creates a duplicate on a different track:
Note that the clip highlighted in the previous screen cap is the duplicate and I didn't click it, Premiere highlights it as soon as it is duplicated.
    3) When I click out of the timeline or scroll up or down on the timeline, the duplicates disappear. However, when I try to move the original clips, it doesn't do anything, they are stuck in place.
    ANTICIPATED ANSWERS:
    1) You work on 2 different computers with 2 different versions of Premiere Pro CC, what do you expect? --> The amazing thing about Adobe CC is that it shouldn't be an issue and now I have to deal with it in this way,
    2) Try and save an updated version of your project from your computer. --> Already done that.
Thank you for your help. I usually use the customer support chat but I am on the other side of the globe and it is now closed. This issue prevents me to work so I need to solve it quickly.
    Kind regards,
    Aurelien

This sounds to me like it could be a graphics related problem are you on the latest driver. Something else you could try, start a new project and import the one from the PC into that rather than directly opening it in the MAC

  • Premiere Pro CS6 Crashes on Render Timeline and also Export

Hi, The Last few days Premiere Pro has been crashing during either export of a sequence or during render of timeline.
This also happens if I import the timeline into AME and try to render from there.
The Files on the timeline are 720x576 progessive @25fps Avi Type 2's
I've tried outputting to a number of file types with the same crash. Also I have Premiere Elements on the same machine and this does the same!
This had been working fine the past few weeks, can't understand why its stopped now.
I've also tried uninstalling CS6 and reinstalling it. and also keep all updated..
Also reading some other posts, i also uninstalled Itunes in case the latest update has caused problems. Unfortunately i don't have  restore point from before the problem started happening
although i do have a backup on another drive.
I should also mention that i've done a number of virus scans as well with a couple of products just in case of that.
Machine is Win 7 64 bit.  I7 Quad 2600 (3.4gig), 10gb Ram, Blackmagic extreme input card, and Duo input card. The Video Card is internal to the board (Intel HD Graphics...which performs ok for what i need it for )
any help would be appreciated to get up and running again.
    cheers
    john

Well, I think i finally have got to the root of it...These files were recorded using Blackmagics Mjpeg Compressor, and that seems to be the problem.
Rather than recoding the files (difficult as AME would fall over as well!) I ran them through my digital desk again (Vmix) playing them back and re recording them using AVi and the normal dv option...this time the files produced would render and output...hoorah  now see if i can finish it..will report back, but this seems to have sorted me out.

  • Premiere Pro CS3 for Mac timeline encoder application options

What options (Procoder-like) do I have for Mac Premiere Pro CS3 timeline encoding? Appreciate any application suggestions.

I understand that you get more options on the Win Platform. If your
looking for a specific option that you intend to use alot, then you will
certainly want to factor that in when you make your OS choice.
But just having lots of options in itself is not, in itself, a good
reason to base your choice on. The Mac platforms tend to be more
quicktime based, but your encoding options are varied allowing you to
create delivery formats for a range of end users, from tiny Ipod size
video to lossless formats that most any other platform will handle with
no difficulty. Of course you have the standard DVD export routines, and
you also have flash video export routines.
For import concerns, I have found a program called Visual Hub to be
quite useful in conversions. I've found it to be able to quickly convert
most everything I throw it at, specifically those xvid and divx file
that tend to be problematic for NLE's on both platforms.

  • Premiere Pro CS5.5 Won't Play Timeline or Any Media W/ Dual Monitors

    Hello ,
I've recently ran into a Problem with Adobe Premiere CS5.5 , I decided to resort to the Support Forums to see if someone has an idea. I've been using Premiere for around a year , i've never had an issue like this before. Its a great editing tool and one that i'd love to continue using in the years to come!
The problem i have , is that when i open up a timeline any timeline that i've created/saved. I press Space which is the Hotkey for play , However it doesn't seem to play the video in either of the two source monitors.
I did a little digging around the internet to see if i could find any solutions , According to one person it may be an issue with the Video Drivers installed on my computer? After reading this , I Updated by Video Drivers however this hasn't fixed my problem? Do i have to enable the drivers or will be laptop automaticly switch to the new Video Drivers.
I usually edit with a second monitor which has been working fine. When i disconnect the monitor from the Laptop , And just edit using my Laptop , It works fine. I'm just wondering if someone has a Solution , Perhaps someone may have had a similar problem than me?
Thanks again! I look forward to finding out what's happening with my Copy of Premiere.

  • Premiere Pro CC14 won't play video in timeline...

I upgraded to Premiere Pro CC14 when it came out. I've since started a new project that is a mix of stills and video with various FX. Before, everything played fine. Now, I open the project and can scrub through the timeline, but I hit play and nothing happens. The "play" button in the program window switches from the "play" symbol to the "stop" symbol, but nothing happens. The program doesn't freeze, but it just sits there, not doing anything. Even opening the source footage to play back in the source monitor, nothing happens. Otherwise, you can open things and they show up, but nothing plays.
Even starting a new project from scratch, importing one piece of video, and trying to play it gets the same result.
Is anyone else having this problem? Is there a solution?
I'm working on a MacBookPro Retina, with 16GB of RAM on Mavericks.

  • Premiere Pro CC very buggy timeline

Hi everyone! I can't seem to find a relevant answer to this problem I've been having with Premiere Pro CC.
Basically, I have a timeline with four video angles (not trying a multiclip edit; they are just in the timeline) and a few sources of audio. As I try to scroll side to side or zoom in and out, I get weird blacking out and clip outlines that shouldn't be there. If I try to move the divider bar between the audio and video tracks, it doesn't do anything. In the attached video, I try to navigate around the timeline, and then go to the multiclip version of an almost identical timeline (which works perfectly). In it's current state, the first (non-multiclip) timeline is completely unusable. Ideas? Thanks!    Premiere CC Buggy Timeline - YouTube
    ~Tim

The audio and video tracks aren't synced via a timecode or anything definite like that. The audio track in question starts at a different time than the video clips, which means that I would need to scrub through it to find the spot where the audio I need occurs, and grab it. Maybe I just don't know about some functionality within Premiere, but I don't think I can just toss audio in a sequence and have it line up.
And again, just avoiding a broken or buggy timeline doesn't help me in the long run. What if I was working on a long-form documentary or something where this happened, but I didn't happen to have a multicam sequence already in place? I want to have a solution, not an avoidance-based workaround for this particular project. Thanks!

  • Adobe Premiere Pro CC Timeline automatically zooms in when moving clips around

This is an issue that keeps happening. It has been an ongoing problem with Premiere Pro CC and now 2014.1. It would start after working for a while on a project and become more frequent as the project gets larger. The only way to rectify the problem is restarting the computer. I would be working and I go to drag a clip around on the timeline and the timeline will automatically zoom in and thus place the clip in the wrong location. This happens when I am not holding down any keys. It will continue to zoom in every time I move any clips on the timeline and once it starts it happens on all sequences. While restarting the computer seems to help I have to do that 5 or more times in a day which can be very frustrating. It doesn't seem to be related to any OS, computer, hard drive/storage. Deleting preview files, flushing PRAM, trashing preferences doesn't help either. I usually work with Quicktime files AppleProRes Codec or H.264. Any help or insight into this issue would be greatly appreciated.
Here is a video that demonstrates the bug:
Premiere Pro Version: Every version from 7.0.0 to 8.1
OS Version: Every version of Mavricks and Yosemite including version 10.10.1
The footage I most use is H.264 and ProRes 422
The problem occurs randomly throughout the day, nothing seems to trigger it. When it starts the only way to make it stop is to restart the computer
