Timeline + effects

Is it posssible to add an effect to a whole timeline? If I have a whole load of clips I want as black and white, can I not just apply that effect to the whole video channel, in the same way you'd add a plug-in to an audio channel? Or is my only option to select each clip in the Viewer and add the effect there?

Dynamic load of images in to established Timeline effect

Is it possible to dynamicly load images in to an already
established timeline effect?
Steps I've done.
Stuffed a JPG in to the library by draging and dropping it in
to the SWFs library.
Dropped the JPG on to the main stage
Right clicked the image then going down to Timeline effects
and choosing an effect.
Completing any changes in effects dialogue box and then
clicking OK.
Play the movie, and pat myself on the back that it worked.
So then, how can I get Actionscript to load an image
dynamically in to that same Timeline effect and have it do the
effect to that instead of the one found in the library?
I'm using Flash MX Professional 2004.

Can u mention the error message getting while the status become RED??
As what I understand, this may be the issue of invalid characteristics inPSA Data Records or also there may be records that does not support the lower case or upper case data.
So just check the data in PSA Level

In Macromedia Flash8 we had an option insert timeline effects rotate. Do we have any option to rotate an object in Adobe Flash cs5 and above

You can also use the following:
1 Select the object to rotate > Right Click > Create Motion Tween.
2 Click on the last frame of the Motion tween and choose the desired Rotation settings from Properties panel.

New Layer Being Created When Timeline Effect Added

I am working on a Flash file in which I am adding a Timeline
Effect (5 frame fade out). Recently, instead of the transition
being applied to the layer, in the frame length specified, Flash
adds another layer with the standard 30 frames and it deletes the
content from the 5 frames where I'm trying to add the fade out. It
doesn't always do this. I had already successfully created a couple
of fade-ins at the beginning of the timeline, but once it starts
adding and deleting this stuff, it never goes back to normal. On
the layer in question, I have a keyframe with a graphic, the
graphic is stationary for 20 frames, then I inserted another
keyframe and tried to apply the Timeline Effect beginning there.

Troubles with transition timeline effect

Hello,
I am trying to get a line of text to fade in over time via
the 'Transition' timeline effect. However, when I do this, editing
any of the settings makes no change, even after updating the
preview. If I click OK, the effect doesn't seem to work at all.
When I open the Transition effect dialog, I get an 'output'
window with the following inside:

Thanks. I kind of get half of what you are saying. I'm using a old flash mx and half the buttons/menu in it are really different. I'm checking out the motion panel as we speak.

Transition timeline effect flash? Where is it located?

I can't seem to find the "transition timeline effect" at all in flash cs 5. It was in ther previous version before by just right clicking a layer in flash. Any ideas? Thanks

[discuss] Does anyone use the Timeline Effects?

Just curious. I don't, but I probably would if the effects
were better -- the system itself of applying and editing effects
works nice.

I've never used the Timeline Effects either, and after some
fooling around with them I think these are the main reasons:
1) There aren't very many effects. I don't expect to discover
much there.
2) The effects that are there aren't particularly useful.
I've never really needed to "explode" or "expand" something in my
animation. Some of the effects are so basic they don't seem to
really offer any benefit over normal tweening, such as Transform
and Transition. And what about Text effects? If there were
professional text effects, such as the quality found in After
Effects, I'd find that useful.
3) The effects that exist are not very high quality. They
aren't smooth and natural looking.
4) The preview framerate is not synchronized to your movie
framerate, so the preview is mostly useless.
5) UI visibility of the Timeline Effect is really low.
There's no indication in the timeline or Property panel that a
symbol is actually a timeline effect. The only way to edit or
create a timeline effect is through a menu. This makes for a very
awkward interface.
5) You can only have a single Timeline Effect at once.
6) A Symbol with a Timeline Effect can't be edited, you can't
even adjust the frame span in the timeline without the timeline
effect being "baked" and not editable anymore. This makes some of
the "helpers" particularly useless, since it basically locks down
your selection after being applied.
So in the end I think I'll avoid extending Timeline Effects
altogether and just create some Commands to help us in creating
tweens. Any suggestions as far as that goes?

Adding extra timeline effects

Hi. I have flash 8. Is there a way to add extra timeline
effects to the program? Perhaps in the form of a plug in or
extension or something?

Thanks, Matt. I moved the sound effects out from the application bundle and into the directory you described. They showed up fine, and it even allowed AIFF and WAV files to be used.
Oddly, the folder names (ie. "Hollywood Edge" and "Animal Sounds") were replaced by "iMovie HD Sound Effects" and subfolder names were changed to this too (removing the useful folder titles for sound types). That's screwy!
I also noticed that only a handful of the MP3 & AIFF files had their time displayed. None of the WAV files showed duration time. Isn't that odd?

Flash Pro 8 Crashes everytime Timeline Effect is chosen

Running Windows XP Pro SP2 - Flash Pro 8, everytime I choose
an item and select any of the items under time line effect, the
whole application crashes...This was working up to today, and it
just stopped...i haven't installed anything new..
I'm thinking maybe its a registry key issue but anyone else
came across this...?

I've never used the product, so I have no basis for comparison nor do I know what you basis of comparison is. All PowerPC apps must run through the Rosetta emulator on an Intel Mac which results in the slower performance compared to a PPC Mac. Adobe won't be releasing universal binary versions until next year with the exception of Acrobat 8 that was released recently.

hi - please go to the above. click on the NEXT arrows to
cycle through the two movies. see how the photo of the highway
glides around? i know how to do this with timeline [moving it from
one position to another] but i've tried to do the zoom in or out
with transform.
i've also tried to fly in words from infinity to their normal
size with free transform, but can't figure out the transform
function. i can't seem to make things go to 0% to their normal size
without the constrain thingy screwing it up. do these movements
seem like an AS function or are they timeline movements and if so,
can someone explain how it's done?

Without seeing the timeline it sounds as if they've been off. Maybe you pressed the V or the role is switched off in the timeline index.

Error inserting Timeline Effects / Instance has no Properties

I'm having trouble making transitions in Adobe Flash CS3
Professional. Here's the error message:
Exception in exportPreviewSWF: TypeError: instance has no
properties
Error opening URL
'file:///C|/Users/Lindsey/AppData/Local/Adobe/Flash
CS3/en/Configuration/preview1.swf'
Exception in reverse: TypeError: tmpFrame has no properties
Any help would be wonderful.

To explain the error, Flash is notifing you that in this statement:
gotoAndStop(nextFrame);
gotoAndStop() is a valid function of a MovieClip however nextFrame has no meaning. You'd have to give it some meaning before using it.
e.g.:
// define "nextFrame" as a variable
var nextFrame:int = this.currentFrame + 1;
// use it in the function gotoAndStop()
gotoAndStop(nextFrame);
Then you would have defined what you are sending to the gotoAndStop() function. Since you didn't, the error tells you nextFrame is undefined.
You can usually combine things as well, e.g.:
// go 5 frames forward and stop
gotoAndStop(this.currentFrame + 5);
To get to the next frame take moccamaximum's suggestion to use the nextFrame(); function of MovieClip.

Timeline shortcuts not working

I'm using Photoshop CC (2014.2.1) on an iMac running Yosemite.
I turn on the timeline shortcuts, but nothing happens. The left and right don't navigate forward and backward frames. None of the timeline shortcuts are activated.
I've tried resetting Photoshop's preferences; still nothing. Am I missing something? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I am having the exact same problem as cynmarie. The
<insert> <timeline effects> and either
<transform> or <transistion> work fine on my laptop,
but on my desktop I get the exact same errors as cynmarie. I'm
using MX 2004 PRO. I have deleted and then reinstalled Flash MX PRO
2004 and I'm still having this issue. The simplist thing like
drawing a circle and then selecting it, then trying to insert a
timeline effect gives me the following messages as described above.
I have installed 7.2 on both computers. I'm going to try one more
time, this time just load Flash MXPRO 2004 7.0 and see if the
transition tool in Flash works before installing the upgrade to 7.2

CS4 timeline

I'm new to flash in general, but recently upgraded to CS4. I
know that in CS3 on the insert menu I could insert a "timeline
effect" to "explode" a graphic. In CS4, I cannot find this option.
Can someone please help me find the effects menu. Thanks

Some of the 'effects' have been moved to Motion Presets, and
the distributed duplicates function can be done now with the Deco
Tool in CS4. The Motion Presets included with the CS4 installation
are mostly transitions, so you can still find a lot of those in
CS4. The explosion effect is not in the Motion Presets, though. I
know that the Motion Presets panel is limited, but the ability to
save and import and export custom made Motion Presets is possible
(apparently Flash does it in an XML format), so I imagine there
should be some custom made effects built by users and shared with
the public.

Premiere crashed, my project won't open because of an "unknown error," and my autosave apparently stopped working 6 hours ago... Any solution?

I'm working in Premiere Pro CC 2014 on an early 2014 iMac. I started to notice my session was getting kind of buggy - audio clips started missing from my timeline, effect controls on some of my video clips had set themselves to the defaults. So I was trying to fix some of these things as I was editing. I save compulsively (like after every couple of edits), so I had not noticed that my session was no longer auto-saving.
Suddenly Premiere crashed. The recovery file will not open "due to an unknown error." The original file that crashed will not open either (same message), and I notice the file size is about half of what it should be. When I tried to open an auto-saved version, I discovered that the last auto-save was last night at about 10 p.m. (I quit working last night at about 1 a.m., so it just spontaneously stopped autosaving midway through my edit session.)
I followed all the suggestions I could find in forums. I trashed preferences, and I moved all my media into other folders. But the session won't open even far enough that it starts asking for media. When I create a new project and try to import my old edit sequence, dynamic link won't even get to the point where it asks me to select what sequences I want to import. It just sits there forever trying to open the file and can't.
Any suggestions?

Additional info - As I look further into the problem, it's even worse than I thought. The autosave files that say they're from last night are actually referencing work from days ago. So evidently, my auto-save is either putting incorrect time stamps on the files, or the project files are referencing old sequences. Either way, I cannot seem to locate a project file that contains a reasonably recent version of my cut, even though the time/date stamps on the files indicate they shouldn't be that old.

Button on slides randomly doesn't work

Hi there, apologies for posting another question but this is quite bewildering.
I have a project that has some slides that have a number of images on them. Each image is a button that executes an advanced action that "opens" a "layer/lightbox" that has relevant information on it (and hides any other that may be open at the time) plus a small "X = close" button in the top right corner that does the reverse. Basically the images open hidden grouped items creating the illusion of layers, etc, and the close button hides each "layer" accordingly. Testing locally everything behaves perfectly and smoothly.
It's only when uploaded to the LMS that the following issue occurs, in that occasionally, for some users the X button in the top of the "layer" doesn't work. The user is kind of stuck... well, not really - other slide buttons like forward and back, plus the master slide menu buttons all work no problem.
The X buttons are smart shapes and at the top of each groups timeline.
When I test and check they can work perfectly on first test but then the problem manifests the next time I check. It may be the third or fourth time, but if I try enough times the glitch occurs.
Something that may be related and is also bugging me is that in order for the information to look clean on the slide each group has a smart shape layer background that is sized to the 'stage area' to block out the underlying information. The shape is white with 100% opacity and no timeline effects or Timing fade, yet when I view it online I can definitely see the "base layer" background seeping through very, very slightly. Like a hint of transparency. Which makes me think that something in these particular slides is corrupt and causing the issues.
Has anyone else witnessed something similar? I did check and this is not a Pause/Continue slide error (AFAIK) but I couldn't find anything about buttons random not working.

The background shape that is slightly see through is in each (hidden) group on the slide itself. Basically, on one slide I have 9 groups that each have a smart shape as a background (bottom of it's timeline grouping), and the same thing on 3 other slides.

I would provide more comprehensive screengrabs of what I am describing but the image content is quite gruesome (medical) and I wouldn't want anyone get ill on these forums.
I was just reading that Dare To Share link and am really impressed how well you explained the functionality. The original documentation was not so great. I will have to apply Shared Actions to all future Captivate module development.
