Timeline for imported .dv file?

Hi all,
I'm trying to do something very simple, however I cannot find a way to do this. I have a 1.5 hour long video that has been imported into iMovie (began its life as a .m4v which I converted to .dv).
I am just trying to have a timeline so that I can select portions of video and put it into a video montage. Someone has given me a list of approximate times in the video that they want. So for example, 20 seconds footage from 1hr; 20 seconds from 1.12hr, etc.
How can I do this without using the extremely arduous trim-copy feature in Quicktime 7?
Using iMovie '11.
Many thanks!

As you have noted, selecting Playhead Info from the View menu item shows only the times recorded for the clips in the Events - it doesn't show elapsed time unfortunately. However, the elapsed time does show in the Project as you move the playhead - I believe that's what AppleMan was describing.
I understand what you were trying to do - finding the exact points in the Event clips so you could then drag appropriate segments to the Project. Hopefully, in a future update Apple will provide an elapsed time feature in the Events.
One option, although a little cumbersome, is to drag all the Event clips into the Project. Now you can pick the exact start and end points for each segment (given the elapsed time feature in Projects). Drag across the segment so that it's highlighted with a yellow border. Now right-click (or Control-click) and select Split Clip from the pop-up menu. That will separate the highlighted piece from the relevant clip. Having done that for each segment, you can now proceed to delete all the unwanted material, leaving you with just the required segments. A very easy solution that can be quickly implemented!
PS. Isn't video editing much more fun than web development?

no you should transcode those files into an format that os suitable for editing. Like proRez. Although you might need some Flip4Mac or perian or something to do the conversion.

  • How to ceate Transport Request Number for importing transport files

I'm trying to create Transport Request Number for importing transport files.
I've copied the two transport files (K903281.QB8 and R903281.QB8) into subdirectories usr/sap/trans/cofiles and usr/sap/trans/data, respectively. Now, I want to import the transport files using transaction management system (STMS). Before using STMS, it seems like I need to create Transport Request Number, but I don't know how to create it. Could you please let me know how to create it?

    Sanjeev and Sajay,
Thanks for your answer. I was able to import the files successfully as transport number QB8K903281 by using standard STMS transport function after manually adding new transport on STMS. My trouble was from my ingrorance of how to let STMS recognize transoprt number for transport files copied from outside SAP. Again thank you very much.

  • System settings for imported p2 files in fcp

    Hello, Everyone
My name is Jackie and I am new to the apple disciussion forum. So I hope I am doing this right. I need help exporting my Project. Currently I am exporting using Quick Time Movie within FCP and the quality of the files are awful. I understand that my mxf files (footage originally shot with P2 hd cards) are imported as quicktime files but I was under the impression that the quality of my footage would stay the same.I think maybe some of my settings are incorrect just not sure what they should be dvntsc or hdv 720 p60 as far as sequence presets. Maybe I am completly off base. currently I have exported sequences using qt movie in hopes to create a dvd but every time the quality is really fuzzy. Please educate me.
    Sincerely, Jackie

    Welcome to the forums.
Imported P2 files are the exact same quality as the original MXF files. And the codec they employ is DVCPRO HD. Might be 720p, might be 1080i...whatever format you shot. Zero quality loss.
Exporting for...what? how? You must know tht you cannot judge the quality of the footage on your computer monitor...
    #2 Blurry Playback
Shane's Stock Answer #2: Blurry playback
ONLY JUDGE THE QUALITY OF YOUR MATERIAL ON AN EXTERNAL BROADCAST MONITOR, OR AT LEAST A TV.
The Canvas shows you what happens after the codec you are working with has been applied. The Viewer shows you the material in its native format. Once you drop the footage from the Viewer into the timeline, it inherits the attributes of the sequence. If it is a DV sequence, the footage will render out as DV.
    1. Disable overlays on the Canvas.
    2. Make sure you've rendered everything (no green bars at the top of the timeline).
Video playback requires large amounts of data and many computations. In order to maintain frame rate and be viewable at a normal size, only about one-fourth of the DV data is used in displaying the movie to the screen. However, the DV footage is still at full quality, and is best viewed thru a TV or broadcast monitor routed thru your camera or deck.
TO view your HD files you need to get a capture card and an HD monitor.

    Hi All,
Please help me in importing the files to MDS repository.
i am trying to import a xml file from my C:\JDeveloper903\jdevhome\jdev\myprojects\oracle\apps\ar\irec\webui to the server. i have a confusion like from where(location) i should run the command ?? is that is from $JAVA_TOP or $APPL_TOP/mds??? or local drive?
and also i have moved my XML files from local Jdeveloper to server using FileZilla to the location /oraweb/u09/appldev2/oadev2comn/java/oracle/apps/ar/irec/webui in ASCII mode. and then i was using following command to import , from $JAVA_TOP,it says import completed , but when i check from TOAD by jdr_utils.printDocument('/oracle/apps/ar/irec/webui/DownloadPG'); it throws an error - Could not find document /oracle/apps/ar/irec/webui/DownloadPG.

    Hi,
I believe all your questions are answered in [Oracle Application Framework Personalization Guide|http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B25516_14/current/acrobat/115fwkpg.pdf], Chapter 9.
To use the import tool, copy the XML file to the server. It is recommended you copy it to $APPL_TOP/<directory> (for example, $APPL_TOP/personalizations), and run the import command from this directory. For the path, you need to give the full path of the XML file you want to import (for example, if you have copied the file to $APPL_TOP/personalizations, then the path according to your first post should be $APPL_TOP/personalizations/oracle/apps/ar/irec/webui/DownloadPG.xml).
BTW, you can import from your local PC using import.bat file.
I would also suggest you review the following thread for similar topic.

  • HR ABAP : Need more information for Import/Export files in HR

    Hi Everybody,
I have been in ABAP programming for pretty long but very new to ABAP HR.I am making a Self-Learning attempt in ABAP HR where I have been able to acheive a fair understanding of Infotype,LDB,Screen Modifications,RMAC macros... But presently I cannot very clearly understand the accessing of PCLn files specially PCL2 (payroll derivations).I am using SAP Help for it. I would highly appreciate if anybody could provide me with some documents to understand Import/Export files in HR.
Any kind of personal tricks or tips to understand the same would also be very helpful.
    Best Regards,
    Sangeeta.

    Hi Suresh,
Your reply was very comforting... I have been literally struggling to understand the includes for data definitions and Key.It would be great if you could just provide me a sample program with the Read Payroll and Write Payroll in case you have any.
Other than that as per your suggestions I would then just concentrate on the modules..
Once again I would like to thank you for your reply.
    Best Regards,

  • Which Raw plug-in using Nikon D7000 and Photoshop Elements 7 for importing NEF files?

Cannot import NEF files from Nikon D7000.
Which Raw plug-in is avalible for Adobe Photoshop Elements 7? According to Help sites version 6.3 is needed, But is it kompatible with Elements /??
    Please help!

It’s not possible to update PSE7 beyond ACR 5.5. You have two alternatives:
    1) Upgrade to PSE 10. 2) Download and install the free Adobe DNG converter to convert your NEF files to the Adobe Raw format and the files will open in all versions of PSE (keep your original NEF’s as backups)
Windows download click here DNG Converter 6.5
Mac download click here DNG Converter 6.5

Hi, I have only been doing java for 1 semester, and have got terribly stuck on my final assg. I have to import a txt file, and catch any exceptions.          try
              inFile.close();
//display error if there was a problem closing the file
         catch (IOException e)
              System.err.println("error closing data file")

I think the problem is the "\M" in "C:\Mydata.txt". It is trying to make that into an escape character. Use "C:\\Mydata.txt" or "C:/Mydata.txt" instead.
The logic here is odd. You open a BufferedReader for Mydata.txt, then you trash it without closing it and create another BufferedReader for whatever command line argument the user passes in. Which reader do you want to keep?

  • Workflow for importing AVCHD files

Hi there I know this has been asked before but given that I am struggling with the new purchase of a Panasonic HMC150 (Avchd) vs HDV (tape) I am wondering how others are finding working with the AVCHD footage. Are you importing through Log and Transfer and letting FCP re-compress or are you using other software to convert over to .mov or .mpeg etc? I am a little hesitant of seeing the math that 60 minutes = 60-70 Gb of hard drive space. What do people do for archiving Just keep dumping onto TB drives? Any insight or scenarios would be GREATLY appreciated!

I make disk images of the camera's cards in Disk Utility.
The transcoded footage will be stored for several months at first in its editable format, just in case.
For the project archive I save just the project file and any elements that did not come from the camera, such as graphics or music.
The project can be accurately rebuilt by mounting the disk images and batch capturing once more if need be.
Of course, hard drives have never been cheaper. Depending on how valuable your projects are, you could just keep buying huge 1 or 2 TB drives.

  • How to turn on audio for imported QT file

    Hello,
I imported a QT file into Garage band which contained audio, into the movie track.  I am importing a bunch of mp3 songs into other tracks.   Earlier when I played the QT file via Garage band, I was able to hear the sound of the QT file, in addition of the mp3... but now, the QT file sound has disapeared!
I must say, that I had to delete the QT fiel out of GBand, and re-imported it. And yes there is  sound on the QT file.
just like the tracks have the triangle to adjust the volume level, the "movie track" where the QT file resides, does not have any volume adjustment!
Any idea to turn the sound on on the QT file?
    Michel

When you import a movie into GB, the movie's sound track is separated from the picture and appears as its own audio track. That's why the movie track has no volume slider. So if you have no sound track, you can't hear the movie's sound. No idea what could have happened to it.

  • Why won't premiere CS6 play audio for imported AVCHD files on my window 7 laptop?

After I've imported the AVCHD file the video plays just fine, but the audio isn't there at all. I still have the original video files on my SD card, I've tried Wondershare to convert the file, but the video became corrupted. Any tips?

Not necessarily, go to Help > Updates. We're on Premiere Pro CS6 (6.0.3) in Windows now.

Uninstall Spotify and see if that helps. I've heard about some crazy things related to that app. Better to run all these apps on a cheap secondary computer or iPad.

  • Continuous raster is not working for imported Illustrator files - I am working on the latest versions of both. I tried importing a simple graphic and having it continuously raster, nothing else, and it won't work.

I set up my file in Illustrator as a video file, same size as the AfterEffects file I'm working on - but the continuous raster button doesn't work. Any ideas?

If you have applied raster layer effects in illustrator, then it won't work because you no longer have a vector image.
What is the zoom factor of your composition window? What is the resolution of your comp window? If you would post a screenshot of your composition with the properties of the layers in question revealed by pressing the u key twice maybe we would have a clue what you are doing wrong. It's quite difficult to come up with an answer with out some details. We need more details.

  • Importing AVI files

Hello. I've just switched over from the dark side to Mac and I need some help using FCE. Here are my basic questions:
    1) Best settings/method for importing AVI files from a hard disk?
    2) Best export settings for high quality use in powerpoint and/or DVD/CD?
Now for a little more info...
I work with athletes in the areas of sport science and performance. I have tons of video saved on multiple hard drives in AVI format that we did video analysis of technique using DartFISH. They were originally captured with good quality digital video cameras via DartFISH as AVI files. These are large files and high quality video (200-300 MB for a 1 min clip) .
RIght now, if I choose "import: from file" I get a message saying the clips are not optimized for FCE and I should recapture them. Unfortunately, all I have are the files on HD and not the original tapes, etc.
What is the best way to import the AVI clip files into FCE for editing? Settings, etc. Do I need to convert to a Mac-friendly format first with a third-party app like QuickTime Pro, VLC, MPEG StreamClip? Use iMovie?
My overall goal is to not lose quality/suffer degradation of the clips in the conversion, edit, export process. I'm not that concerned with file size, but I also don't really want to go through 3 or four steps and create multiple large files for the same clip.
My desired output is for continued work with athletes so they can take video home (DVD or CD of clips) to review and academic presentations (powerpoint). So seeing fine detail in the clips is important. An edit/output set-up that I will use a lot is merging two clips to play in a PIP, side-by-side, or overlay format. i.e., athlete A with perfect form on the left, athlete B with flaws on the right and the clips play simultaneously as one final output movie.
Is the basic Quicktime export function the best for my needs?
I've got a decent background in computers and basic video editing. Clip splitting, marking in/out, timeline, transitions, and other edit functions are no problem. My main area of weakness is all the different video formats, codecs, compression options, and other similar settings. There weren't many of those types of choices in my old system. I've produced some movies with FCE already, but the quality in the videos dropped from the original clips to final output.
    Thanks,
    TD...

    Tom--
Thanks for the response. Using MPEG Streamclip solved my import problems. Using the default DV25 compression seemed to yield a file of similar size to my original AVI files. Is there much benefit in using the DVCPRO25 or DVCPRO50?
I'm still having some troubles with export format settings. Using the default Quicktime movie export, the finished clips looks to be fine in Quicktime. But using the .mov clip in Powerpoint yields some degraded quality. The picture appears to have "lines" and generally looks less crisp/clean. I thought this might have been just some Microsoft flaw in the Powerpoint movie engines, but I tried the same thing in Apple Keynote and got the same result. I have some screen shot image captures I could send you, but not sure how on the discussion board.
