Timeline lag when scrubbing

I just noticed after importing my mpeg2 into the timeline, whenever I scrub the timeline it lags a great deal. I have updated my graphics driver, and it still lags. I am using an HP Z400, 12 G of Ram, Intel Xeon, W7 64 Bit, with Nvidia Quadro FX 3800 ( driver just updated). Now we did update our Tricaster 855, we now record mpeg 2 4:2:2. Could that be the issue? All of the mpeg2 4:2:2 have a lag when imported into Premiere btw.

Update: as a test I installed AE CS6 (after I'd finally managed to locate the download link!) and initial tests don't result in the same problems as CC. (This is both with and without the CS6 raytracer file modified to accept the Titan).
I can easily replicated the problem in CC:
1) New comp (1920x1080)
2) New solid layer - scrub timeline back and forth, fine no lag.
3) Duplicate layer - scrub timeline back and forth, fine no lag.
4) Duplicate layer a few more times - scrub timeline back and forth, start to notice lag
5) Repeat duplicate layer and I'll start getting delay in the duping process.
6) Get to about 30 layers and lag increases - scrub timeline back and forth, noticeable lag.
7) CTRL-A (delay), P (delay), click for keyframe (delay) scrub timeline back and forth, noticeable lag.
This has now made CC pretty unusable, but it was fine (bar occasional slow RAM preview playback) a few days ago!
Please don't tell me I have to roll back to CS6....
Is this the right place to report this issue? Anyone?

  • Premiere Pro CS4.2.1 crashes/jittery playback when scrubbing timeline

With just PP CS4.2.1 open, my program crashes when scrubbing the timeline as well as exhibits jittery playback after scrubbing the timeline. This is a PC system, Microsoft Vista Business 64bit with SP2, 500GB SATA2 hard drive (system), (3) 1-TB SATA2 hard drives (storage), (2) Intel Xeon Quad Core E5560, 2.8 ghz processors, 8 mb cache.
I have (2) workstations with similiar setups and show the same issue. It doesn't happen with any consistency but requires constant control-S saves to make sure the project doesn't crash when you don't want it to.
I just converted from PP 1.5.1 to this with a complete new setup. This setup (on both machines) has proven to be less stable than the older system with 1.5.1
Figure it's something similar with system build as it's happening on both machines and/or it's something in/with Premiere CS4.

  • Issue with Clipping Mask when scrubbing timeline

Has anyone encountered an issue with editing a clipping mask or repositioning it on the timeline only to see that nothing moves on the timeline when scrubbing the playhead?
This has occurred multiple times on different Edge Animate projects.
So far this has happened on SVGs, pngs, basic shapes, etc.
I posted a video in my adobe cc folder to view as a reference.
    I'm using OS X 10.10.3 and Edge Animate 2014.1.1

I right click on the clip in Timeline, choose Effects Mask > Apply
The rectangular mask appears on the screen, I drag one corner in to make it smaller - what the exact dimensions are I know not. The logo I need covered happens to be almost at the exact center of the screen.
I choose the EDIT Tab > Brightness/Contrast > Set the levels so the mask is perfectly white (thus, covering up the logo) > Apply > Done
The preview works. When I output as AVI, MOV, MPG, MP4, etc., the mask that I placed over the logo has now moved either above where I originally placed it or above and to the left.
I have no idea how to answer the second part of your question.

  • AE CC timeline lag & not realtime preview (Win7 GTX Titan)

As of a few days ago I'm suddenly experiencing lag when navigating around, scrubbing the timeline (as in cursor movement), using keyboard shortcuts, drag selecting keyframes etc.
Also RAM preview occasionally shows a red warning its not playing back in realtime.
This is a pretty new system that I'm only starting to use in anger and all has seemed fine until a few days ago, and I haven't updated anything to my knowledge.
I've an SSD for system disk, dedicated SSD for AE cache, 2 x HDD (1 for projects, 1 to render to).
I've deleted my preferences and purged all the cache several times and still have issues.
A new empty project seems fine, but if I make a new comp and add a new layer it starts to lag if I CTRL-D duplicate the layers (after about 20) and try to CTRL-A and expand a property (e.g position P)
As I say I've been working on a few proejct with lots of layers over the past month and not experienced the lag (though I have the red RAM preview warning)
I'm baffled as everything has seemed fine until very recently and I'm not aware of updating anything prior to noticing this issue.
    Any ideas anyone?

  • Timeline Lagging in Playback

So I have an issue with Adobe Audition CS6.  When I playback ANY audio file and watch it in the timeline the timeline lags.  Either the waveform or the spectral display, the video is always lagging behind the audio.  I can't find any answer to this anywhere.  And it isn't a consisten lag either.  It gets wors as time goes by.  It seems like for ever fifteen seconds of playback the timeline lags behind the audio an extra second.  So at a minute it is four seconds behind.  When I stop and start it catches up but the lagging builds again.
I'm at a total loss now.  Thank you for any help.

The first thing to ask is whether you've installed the 5.0.2 update? If you haven't, you can find it here (assuming you're a Windows user). This resolves a number of issues, and really is the first thing you should try.

  • Flash CS4 crashing when scrubbing playhead or using certain tools

I am currently having the unfortunate experience of learning Flash Pro as part of my degree program at school. I have been having a problem with the program crashing repeatedly. I have CS4 Web Premium, an educational discount edition, and am using it on an HP pc with an AMD Athlon and Nvidia v-card. I have had problems with it crashing on this computer when using tools such as the deco-tool and sometimes when transforming something. The real problem is when I try to use one of the Dell pc's at school to work on a file I have created at home on the HP. On 4 different machines at school Flash will crash when working on one of these files, especially when scrubbing the playhead on the timeline. The program will crash over and over, to the point where I can't really work on these files at school, which is a huge waste of time. I have heard of problems with corrupt fonts, and restoring preference files but also wanted to see if these problems sound familiar to anyone.

Thanks for your reply. I have the 10.0.2 Flash update on my pc, I'm not sure about the machines at school but I'm guessing they do as well. I also have 6gb of ram, and am running 64bit windows7. The pc's at school are new Dell's running widows7 and I would think they have at least 4gb of ram. I've attached a file that crashed when I scrubbed the playhead on the pc's at school. I don't have that problem at home. Thanks again for your help.

I would check a couple things - whether the Flash CS4 installations (the ones that crash) have been updated to 10.0.2, and secondly what the machine specs are (how much RAM). There were a number of issues (including crashing while scrubbing) that were worked on at great length for the updater.  If the updater has been installed and the machines have more than 2 gigs of ram, it would be great if you could link to a file that crashes while scrubbing so I can take a look.

  • Audio Issues when scrubbing in Adobe Pr 6.0.2 via ScreenSharing

    Hello everyone,
I'm trying to use sceensharing apps to allow me to edit in Adobe Pr CS6 yet despite a variety of attempts and many many hours of fiddling I haven't gotten any audio to output when scrubbing.  I've tried a variety of Screen Sharing apps - my preferred one being SplashTop.  They all seem to do something along the lines of installing a virtual audio device like Soundflower.  This works great for sound output pretty much everwhere except when scrubbing within Adobe Premiere.  For example even playing files from the media browser in Premiere works, so its specifically isolated to playback of a timeline.
    System info:
    Mac OS X 10.7.5
MacPro Mid 2010 built in Audio and Video hardware
    Adobe Premiere 6.0.2
Soundflower v 1.6.6  (tried other revisions without any difference)
    Here's what I've tried:
Set the Audio Hardware Preference to -> Default Device:  Soundflower (2ch), buffersize 2048 (and then matched the buffer in the Soundflower settings) == Playback works great when playing the media files, just not when scrubbing
Played with the settings in the Playback Prefefences switching from Adobe Desktop Audio to Adobe DV = no difference  (don't have any other plugins)
Trying a variety of settings in the Apple Audio Midi Settings without any difference
Opened up Quicktime Pro Audio Recording with the Soundflower Audio as the input to see if there is any audio levels being detected = nothing detected when scrubbing
I'm not totally familar with all the settings within Pr, so perhaps there is something I'm missing?
Or maybe I'm going about this in the wrong way and there is a better alternative then using screensharing via Splashtop?  Really looking to avoid putting things on a USB drive and copying stuff back and forth.  :-)
    Any help is greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Adam

Hi, I'm having the same problem. I can see it's been a while since you wrote this, but did you find a solution? Have you found some other, perhaps working, platform besides Splashtop that you could recommend?

  • Experiencing lag when editing, backup in background

I've noticed FCPX lagging when I make cuts or move any clips around on the timeline. For instance I'll make a blade cut and be waiting 2-5 seconds for it to show up. I might drag the clip somewhere else on the timeline and find that I have to wait for the UI to catch up on drag. Since this is EXACTLY what I should be able to do quickly with this kind of software it's very frustrating.
I notice this on all my projects and even on new timelines I create.
I noticed the 'Backup' progress bar keeps appearing in the Background Tasks window. I've not seen it start and stop like this before. It looks like a glitch of some kind.
Any thoughts on how to solve this lag? Is it the backup task? Can I disable this feature?
I'm working on FCP 10.1.4 in OSX 10.10.1 on a Mac Pro (late 2013). <----THIS SETUP SHOULDN'T BE A PROBLEM TO WORK ON AS IT"S AN 'EPIC' 'PRO' MODEL.
Storage is on a Pegasus2 R4 thunderbolt raid HD bought through the apple store.

wwhere are the backup files? Try repairing permissions and trashing preferences. If it continues to constantly backup switch off back ups and see how it works then. Also try creating a new user and seeing how the application behaves there.

  • Loud noises when scrubbing

    Hi there,
I am getting really loud noises when scrubbing through the timeline. It only occurs when I have an mp3 underneath a series of other clips. Tgis has never been an issue until recently. I can mute the soundtrack to disable the noises, but this is not an ideal solution to work with. Any ideas?

  • Scoll Lagging FF7.0.1: fine in safe mode, continues to lag when not even when extensions and plug-ins are disabled (reinstalled, problem continues)

a few days ago, all web pages started to lag when scrolling. Tried safe mode and speed was restored. returned to normal mode and disabled all plug-ins and extension, however, there was no effect upon the scroll lagging. performed a complete Kaspersky virus check with no issues. Other programs on desktop (ex: outlook) are running concurrently at speed without issue. IE is not running with scroll lag.
Oh, BTW, I don't know if it is related, but I was in China last week. and Only noticed this scroll lagging here in the US when I opened it this morning ... so, perhaps there is a site preference issue?

If it boots OK in Safe Mode, the you want to check those possible causes outlined in this article.

  • Computer lags when playing games.

    Hi folks.
I have a problem with my computer, several in fact.
    1. Computer lags when playing games(Battlefield/Desert Combat) even on lowest video settings, especially when there is a lot of action.
    2. When I open "My Computer" it searches for 3-5 minutes before files appear, but when opening "my documents" for example, it opens it without any delay.
    3. Startup is fast but when logging on, computer hangs for a couple of minutes, before completing log on.
Is there anyone who can help me out???
      plz help

Hi NovJoe, thanks for the reply. Nice rig by the way.
Ive disabled all programs except essential windows programs in Task Manager, it didnt help.
Ive changed to new drivers, uninstalled them, changed to older drivers, tried 7 different drivers.
VGA card is running cold, CPU is on 40 cel. under full load, RAM is cool as well. PSU isnt running hot either.
Even checked the chipset, and thats cool also. I switched cabinets and that helped a bit(different PSU).
Now I only have problems with the lagging when playing.
So now Ive ordered a new PSU and mobo (MSI 865PE NEO2-V) I have a feeling its the VGA slot thats not giving me enough power to the VGA card.
And the new PSU is just so cool I had to have it. When Ive complete the build Ill post pics on the forum.
Anyways, Ill let you guys know if this will solve my problem.

I'm going to guess videos buffer for a while also...
Two possibilities, one is you should close apps on the iPad, the other is your internet speed is not able to handle the demands of a high speed device.
To close apps:   Double click home button, swipe up to close the apps.
To solve internet problem, contact your provider.   Basic internet is not enough for video games and movies.   Your router may be old and slow.

  • IMovie audio issues. Fine in timeline, but when rendering to iTunes or Media Browser, audio from certain portions of movie files are heard in places where it shouldn't be !

iMovie 11  audio issues. Fine in timeline, but when rendering to iTunes or Media Browser, audio from certain portions of movie files are heard in places where it shouldn't be !
I have created a project where I have a montage of photos and video clips edited together with music under. Some audio portions of the video files are being muted in some areas and those portions are being heard in another part of the project. This is not for all video clips only certain ones.
The project plays fine in the timeline, but when I render the project thru iTunes or Media Browser, this is when the project goes corrupt.
I tried detaching the Audio from the video clips and this somewhat worked, but the original problem still exists with certain audio still being heard where it's not supposed to be.

    I have a fix - or rather, a workaround.
WARNING: It is lengthy, but still far better than starting a new project from scratch.
I had this same issue and none of my transitions/clips were at custom speeds, nor did I have anything else weird going on. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do within iMovie to fix this, at least there wasn't for me. iMovie is BY FAR the buggiest software I have ever used and if you haven't already spent hours slaving away on a project, you are so much better off using just about anything else to edit your video.
...But let's assume you have already spent many hours working on your project and you don't want to start all over. Well then, you have at least one option.
It's a pain in the neck, but it's infinitely better than restarting your project from scratch.
    This will require:
A software called Soundflower (which is free) and some kind of audio editing software (I use Logic, but really any should work).
1.) You're going to need to export your video with the messed up audio. Typically if you're audio is messing up, you're video is at least usually working just fine (at least it always does for me).
2.) You're going to need to open that video in your audio software and import only the audio. If your software doesn't give you this option, then you're going to need to record the audio from your video using the audio software and Soundflower. You can find tutorials on how to do this, but it's honestly pretty straightforward once you start playing around with you Mac's audio I/O settings. Remember to have your computer's volume all the way up when doing this.
3.) Watch/listen to your video and make notes of where the audio errors occur. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND writing down times too,  as they will be extremely helpful later.
4.) Now were going to rip some working audio from the iMovie project itself. Go back into your iMovie project and only play back audio while in the edit window for this step. Do NOT play your project back in full screen.
This part is key: if you try to play back your project from the beginning the audio will usually still mess up. So, what you're gonna have to do is go back on your edit window timeline right before these errors occur and play that specific clip back while recording this working audio with Soundflower and your audio software. Essentially we're only recording the parts of the audio where these errors occur, so try to do this in order if you can. Try to leave several seconds of audio in before the error - that way we can use it as reference when we construct our new audio track.
5.) Now in your audio software you should have your original error-filled audio track and the new clips that we just captured. This part can be painstaking if you're not familiar with audio editing softwares, but as you'll learn, it's really not that hard.
You're going to look at your original audio track and compare it to your new working audio clips. You should be able to notice where those new clips are supposed to go by looking at the identical (or close to identical) waveform shapes in your original audio track. The two should correspond with one another. If you don't understand what I mean right now, you will when you start playing around with the audio. This is why marking times is very important.
Take your new clips and split them up if you haven't already, that way you can drag them around and edit them separately from one another. Essentially your going to line these new clips up with original and then replace the original parts with new ones.
We need to get this as precise as possible, so start off by getting them as close as you can with your naked eye, and then use a zoom tool to zoom in as much as possible so that you can get them lined up PERFECTLY, or at least extremely close. In some softwares you can just drag these new clips on top of the old track, but most of the time you will need to actually cut out the old piece and replace it with the new one. In doing this, zoom in and make sure that you are NOT cutting out a bigger space than your new clip will fill - otherwise you will have small gaps in your audio.
VERY IMPORTANT: Also make sure that this new audio track starts at the EXACT SAME time as your original - otherwise your new audio will be out of sync.
I know this part can really suck if you're not used to audio editing, but at this point, there is little other choice.
6.) Once you are done with this, export your newly pieced together audio track.
7.) Now open iMovie and create a NEW project. Re-import the video that you exported earlier that has the messed up audio. This might take a while, so just be patient.
8.) Then right click the clip and select "Detach Audio". This will do just that - allowing you to edit the audio separately from the video. Now delete this audio.
9.) Now, import the new, perfect audio track that we just made and make sure that it starts at the start of the project. Make sure it's in sync and that everything works.
Now just export your new video with the working audio and you should be done. Since we have given iMovie the audio with no editing actually being done in iMovie, it does not have to generate its own audio now and you should have absolutely no errors now - unless there is some that you forgot to take out earlier.
    YOU'RE FINALLY DONE!!!
I know this entire process *****, but if you're that far into your project, there is little else that you can do. Now you've learned your lesson:
    DON'T USE IMOVIE EVER AGAIN.
    I hope this helped!
