Timeline Options with NTSC DV & Uncompresses 8-bit (and others too)

Can someone explain the difference in picture I will see if I have DV and edit it on a NTSC-DV timeline vs. editing DV on an Uncompressed 8-bit timeline? Will it make a big difference after its all said and done and compressed in compressor ready to be put to DVD? What is the deal with all the diff settings within each timeline. Also, If i have edited DV in a NTSC-DV timeline...can I just copy and paste it to another timeline which I have set to a diff setting (i.e. uncompressed 8-bit or DV50 etc.....)?

If you shot DV, what you get is a 720x4380 4:1:1 image. Up rezing or up converting to a larger colorspace will not change that basic fact.
The only time going to a larger colorspace makes sense is if you are doing a great deal of titling/text or special effects. In that case, it may do you some good for composting the effects. It still will not make the basic footage look any better.

EXPORTING- DV NTSC vs Uncompressed 8-bit

I've been routinely exporting final sequences using the DV NTSC setting (same as my sequence setting). However, I noticed some graphics were coming up flat.
After asking around, someone suggested outputting to Uncompressed 8-Bit and it totally worked.
This leaves me utterly confused though:
- Should I always output to Uncompressed 8-bit ?
- Should I change my sequence and capture settings to Uncompressed 8-Bit?
- Is everything I've done prior not as high a resolution as it could be?
Help- Please!

It depends on how you are exporting to uncompressed.
If you are exporting straight from a DV sequence in FCP, it will most likely use your existing rendered material to create the frames in the uncompressed file. These renders will have had DV compression applied, and possibly compounded if you have filters, motion tab changes, etc.
However, if you export using Compressor (from your sequence in fCP), it will use an uncompressed image buffer for any rendered material, which can avoid compounding the DV compression. This ccan also be a good way to get better results out oof still or clips that have motion applied - By nesting the animated clips into an uncompressed sequence, I can sometimes get better results than by animating the clip right in the DV sequence.
To capture Uncompressed, you'll most likely need a capture card or box such as an AJA Io, Kona, etc. I don't believe that the mac can transcode FW DV to uncompressed on the fly during capture. I use my Io to capture DV material as uncompressed, but there is a digital-analog-digital conversion that happens, as well as a significant shift in color and luma (blacks get pretty crushed).
You also need spacious and fast enough storage to work exclusively with Uncompressed. Uncompressed 8-bit takes up about 90GB per hour, compared to about 13GB per hour of DV.
DV is a compressed format, and a bit lossy, but since DV is generally captured and output digitally, there is no generation loss as such. The only time there is additional loss is when DV material in re-compressed, such as when material is re-rendered. This is the only case in which working in an Uncompressed sequence can offer better results. If you plan to work exclusively in Uncompressed, then caapturing or converting your media will be necessary to make your clips native to your sequence settings and avoid all that rendering.
Keep in mind also that if you are exporting mpeg for DVD with compressor, there should be no difference in exporting a DV sequence directly, or exporting an uncompressed sequence with DV clips in it.

Hyperion Essbase on 64-bit and Other application are on 32-bit

Hi
I am going to Install Hyperion Essbase on AIX (Version: 6.1) on 64-bit and Other Hyperion application like EAS,EIS, calc manager, Foundation services, Financial report and planning on windows 2008 SP2 with 32-Bit.
I future any connectivity issue will occur with two different bit type or there will no issue.
Please guide me here, above combination is fine or not.

For options like BT(Between), EQ(Equal) in range table, this above query is executing without dump. But for option CP, it simply dumps & in dump what i found is, it is concatenating the value in low & high.
Does anyone have any idea regarding open sql using range tables.

I commented as follows:
If LS_RANGE-HIGH is empty, you can use EQ, NE, GT, LE, LT,CP, and NP. These operators are the same as those that are used for logical expressions. Yet operators CP and NP do not have the full functional scope they have in normal logical expressions. They are only allowed if wildcards ( '*' or '+' ) are used in the input fields. If wildcards are entered on the selection screen, the system automatically uses the operator CP.
If LS_RANGE-HIGH is filled, you can use BT (BeTween) and NB (Not Between). These operators correspond to BETWEEN and NOT BETWEEN that you use when you check if a field belongs to a range. You cannot use wildcard characters.
You can try:
CLEAR LS_RANGE.
LS_RANGE-SIGN = 'I'.
+LS_RANGE-OPTION = 'CP' +
LS_RANGE-LOW = 'S_ADMI_FCD'.
LS_RANGE-HIGH = 'S_ADMI_FCD'.
FIND '*' IN LS_RANGE.
IF sy-subrc = 0.
LS_RANGE-OPTION = 'CP'.
ELSE.

If you use wildcards the LS_RANGE length should not exceed 10 characters.

However we are receiving an error when attempting to enter data in the field which we have this edit. Error property: line through cannot be set because doing so would violate the document permission setting. any idea how we can get around this issue?

You can control which fields are locked down after signing by setting up a collection. Then those that are not locked can be changed after signing. If this is not possible, then the line outs must occur prior to signing.

Problem with 2 PC - one 32 bits, the other 64 bits.

I am just trying the Creative Cloud
I have 2 computers :
* one is an old 32 bits with an internet connection
* one- in another place - is a 64 bits but with no access to internet connection
I want to install After Effects CS6 on the 64 bits PC which has no internet connecion
Is it possible by
1/ downloading After Effects by the internet connection on the 32 bits PC ?
2/ transferring it on the 64 bits PC
3/ What to do next ? Enter a serial number as I have suscribed to Creative Cloud ?
How to obtain it ??

Gizmo2D3D Internet connection is required to utilize the Creative Cloud. You could install a trial, connect to the Internet on the 64-bit system, and then sign in using the Adobe ID tied to your subscription. You would need to repeat this process at least every 30 days or less to allow the software to verify your eligibility to use the software however.
Is there no option of providing a wireless connection or some other way of accessing the Internet on the 64-bit computer? If not then I would recommend purchasing a perpetual version of our software as opposed to a subscription.

Are there any known issues with 64 bit Essbase and other components (Planning, EAS, Provider services, EAS, Workspace and Reporting) in 32 bit?
Version is EPM 11.1.1.3
The reason for choosing ESSBASE 64 bit is of course performance. We decided to stick to 32 bit for the web applications due to some known issues and bitter experiences in past in this version with 64 bit web deployments.
OS is Windows 2003 Server (64 bit for the ESSBASE server and 32/64 bit for the application server)

Hi Anurag,
the .Net server for BPC 7.5 NW and the app/web server for BPC 7.5 MS can both run on either 32- or 64-bit server OS. However my understanding is that they are still 32-bit processes and as such have the same limitations on 64-bit windows as they do on 32-bit (in particular the addressable RAM limitation at 4 GB)
Note, and this is important, that this is for version 7.5 only. The BPC 7.0 MS web/app server HAS to be on 32-bit OS.

Here's some good news for anyone with a Lenovo 3000 N200 model 0769, who is disappointed and frustrated with the lack of options in the BIOS setup menu. (I had a moan about that in this thread.)
This is a long post but I hope you'll find it worthwhile. Here are the features/settings which I will explain how to enable:
The BIOS disables the execute-disable bit function of the CPU, with no way to turn it on. You can enable it.
You can set VGA and VESA graphics modes to not be stretched to fill the whole screen (sharper graphics with no distorted aspect ratio).
Speed up the POST display by skipping the memory test
Disable various features (if you don't use them, that might save some power): the HD audio controller, WLAN card, on-board LAN, shadowing of the video BIOS
Enable beep before booting the OS
Enable key click sound (only in DOS, not Windows or Linux)
I'm still working on this, and hope to figure out more hidden settings soon, e.g. to disable the DVD drive and trackpad, and to change the video output from NTSC to PAL.
The information below applies to the Lenovo 3000 N200 model 0769 with BIOS version 3.03. My N200 has Nvidia graphics. For some background on the general principles/research required to figure this out, please see this thread at Wimsbios.com.
To change the settings, you need to create a bootable DOS floppy disk or USB drive. Download SYMCMOS.EXE (Google for it) and put it on the bootable disk. Boot the disk and run SYMCMOS to back up your current CMOS settings: SYMCMOS -Lsettings.txt
Next load the settings.txt into a text editor. It will begin like this:
( SYMBOLIC CMOS EDITOR - Version 643710-035 )
CRC = 3EDD
(0000) [0001]
(0003) [0001]
Your CRC value may differ. Each line after the CRC contains a token number, followed by the value of that token. You can start with the settings.txt you created and edit any tokens you want to change, or delete all token lines and just include the tokens you want to change. Then use SYMCMOS.EXE to apply the new file: SYMCMOS -V2 -Uupdate.txt
After running that command you can reset, and hopefully notice the new settings in action. (For certain settings, such as re-enabling the execute-disable bit, you need to turn the computer off then on again.)
Here are some specific tokens you can change:
Token Default New Description

(0042) [0001] [0000] Disable LCD panel graphics scaling/stretching
(004B) [0000] [0001] Beep before booting the OS

(0486) [0001] [0000] Disable PCI Express ports 1-6. This takes precedence
over the individual port bits below, and disables the
LAN, WLAN and (probably) ExpressCard port.
(0489) [0001] [0000] Disable PCI Express port 2 (WLAN card)
(048C) [0001] [0000] Disable PCI Express port 3 (maybe ExpressCard?)
(048F) [0001] [0000] Disable PCI Express port 4 (LAN)
For example, if you want to disable LCD panel scaling and enable the execute-disable bit, you would create a text file like this:
CRC = 3EDD

Some final points:
Loading the default settings in the BIOS setup menu will overwrite any changes you make using SYMCMOS.EXE. So keep that bootable disk around in case you need to re-apply your settings in future.
The token numbers above are specific to version 3.03 of the Lenovo 3000 N200 model 0769 BIOS. They might be different for earlier BIOS versions, and will be different for other models of computer.
Once you have created a bootable floppy disk with a text file containing your updated settings, you could create a bootable CD with the floppy's data on. Just boot that CD to restore your settings in future.
Before experimenting with randomly changing token values to discover other hidden settings, make sure you know how to reset your computer's CMOS memory! Changing some settings results in your computer becoming unable to boot, so you can't use the BIOS setup screen to reset. I wrote about how to reset the N200 model 0769 CMOS in this thread.
If you discover any other settings, please let me know.
Any changes made are at your own risk; if you "brick" your laptop don't blame me!

How do I go back to 3.6 from 4.0. Having problems with Wikipedia and can't work with a shorter display [half screen] good with 4.0. McAffee, Norton and other programs aren't supported on 4.0

I need to go back to 3.6 from 4.0 Because:
1. Norton, some Mcaffee, and other needed programs aren't supported yet.
2. Can't downsize 4.0 to fit properly on a half screen, when using a text editor on one half and 4.0 display on the other half. I have to go to a full screen to do somethings, and then back to half screen after. Things aren't easy anymore.
3. When moving references and extras from Wikipedia to my PC, the reference numbers and other generated items are missing on my PC. Never with 3.6
Things are not easy going with 4.0!!!!!!!

How do I fix the problems with text formating functions in hotmail and other text based sites?

In a Mailing list provider site it disables the text formating functions, instead only showing a 'loading' message. The functions never appear. In Hotmail the scroll arrows on the right hand side does not work. Sometimes the email toolbar becomes 'grey' and the buttons do not work. When forwarding an email sometimes the email does not show in the new email message.

The only possible fix was turning the phone off immediately and burying it in a bag of dry rice for a week at least. That might...just might...have worked. But you're way beyond that and I see no fixes. In fact the phone is probably going to get more problems before finally gving up the ghost. Continued use is just shorting out more and more of the circuitry. For that reason I don't think repair is much of an option. Go to an Apple Store and buy an out-of-warranty replacement.
