TimeMachine and LaCie 2Big Network

Hi all,
I want to buy a LaCie 2Big Network 1TB mirrored 1:1 RAID and I want to backup 2 iMacs and one MacBook Air onto that drive via network. The drive will be connected via ethernet to my router and get its own IP. From what I read here TimeMaschine and those drives seems not working or many people having problems setting this up. So I ask myself, do I better buy TimeCapsule which is not a Raid or is it possible to setup a LaCie 2Big Network with TimeMachine without a problems.
My father setup and very old and cheap external drive with TM and it did work within seconds and now after three weeks he has also no problems. Where is the problem-bottleneck with TM that I should take care off.
Thanks a lot for any hint.

I have the same problem, the strange thing is that if you go to the lacie support site to download the manuals you get a list of all the available Hard Disks and you will find two LaCie 2Big Network:
LaCie 2big Network
LaCie 2big Network (2-disk RAID)
If you check the docs the first one supports time machine while the second one does not report time machine support and the describe the web-interface I see using my LaCie 2big Network (no time machine button).
I hope it is only a firmware problem, but it seems that I have the latest update:
Manufacturer and model: LaCie 2big Network
Software version: Linux 2.6.12.6-arm1-lacie5e
Processor: armv5tejl
Physical memory: 62 MB
Package version: 2.0.7rc4
Factory package version: 2.0.7rc4
FAN status:ON
I am going to check it in more details

  • Lacie 2Big Network Drive won't Accept a DHCP address from Time Capsule

    Good evening all.
I have 2 of these Lacie 2Big network drives. One accepts a DHCP address from my Time capsule and the other does not, giving itself a self assigned IP address instead. It does accept a manually assigned address though. The settings on both the Lacie drives are identical as far as I can tell and they both run the latest 2.0.6 software. I tried hard reset on the Time capsule, and swapping the ethernet cables over on the two Lacie drives but to no avail. The log on the drive that won't accept a DHCP address says it is timing out after 45 seconds and setting a self assigned address. The drive that won't accept DHCP is an older drive with software updated to 2.0.6, but it had the problem with the older software as well. Does anyone have a similar experience and / or solution ?
    regards
    Shaun

Also tried resetting PRAM, no luck.
What does work is if I use Manual DHCP mode and specify the router's address (192.168.0.1). Then everything works but not on Automatic, which worked for a long time.

  • Problems with LaCie 2Big 2 NAS staying connected

    Hi,
I have been trying to setup a Lacie 2Big 2TB Network NAS via my BT home hub wireless router. Took ages to get it going but eventually got it "going" and even managed to get a good time machine backup after several hours and a few restarts (of everything)
But it seems something is wrong somewhere.
The shared volumes do not remain connected / mounted and/or authenticated for anything approaching permanently.
My next move is to move my itunes library and iphoto onto the NAS to free up some much needed space on the macbook. But if I the volumes keep failing it will be a nightmare.
so these are the details - I am running macbook OSX 10.6.4 - Lacie system version 1.2.6 with the latest LaCie network assistant [LNA] i can find on the site - DHCP set to automatic - shares set as AFP - 2Big 2TB set at Raid 1 - shares are visable through system profiler (although automount is set to no - but ticked as yes through the LNA as auto-mount).
Periodically the LNA says "can't list volumes" - going through finder I get connection failed and "connect as" does nothing.
Restarting the NAS gets the shares available again (usually)
Has anyone had success getting a Lacie 2big network wirelessly connecting to OSX10.6.4? can anyone suggest why this does not work or options to fix / try? otherwise it's going back and i'll rethink network storage.
    any help much apreciated

    Hi,
I am having the exact same problem. Did you find a solution to this in the end?
I have had the drive for one day and spent hours trying to get the thing to connect reliably but to no avail.
Any advice much appreciate. My set up is pretty much the same as dash100's post.

  • How do I reformat and completely erase a LaCie d2 Network drive?

I have a LaCie d2 Network 2 drive ("Professional Storage Server") that I no longer need and want to sell. Alternatively, if possible, I'd like to turn it into a USB-only drive and use the full 2GB capacity over USB. Either way, I'd like to format it properly and make sure all data is erased and the disk overwritten a few times. However, since this is a network drive, it operates unlike common drives and I can't figure out how to do it. Can it be done in Disk Utilities? The drive doesn't show up there. Hence my question. Any help will be much appreciated by a network drive novice.

Hi, one big problem with NAS drives, only control you have is if it's built into the drive's Interface.
You can use it as a real drive...

  • Advice on setup of new mini w/4 Tb LaCie 2Big thunderbolt drive

I'd like to use this primarily as a photo editing workstation. It will be connected to a 27" Thunderbolt Display and will be wirelessly networked to a 4th generation time capsule. It will use Aperture, Photoshop and Lightroom applications and I would like to explore the  possible setup options I may have available.

The LaCie 2Big comes pre-formatted as HFS+ Journaled, and is already pre-configured as a striped RAID set (RAID 0) for maximum performance. This is mentioned in the online manual for this device. The price for speed is lost redundancy.
If you want greater data protection through drive redundancy, then LaCie suggests reconfiguring the 2Big into a mirrored RAID set (RAID 1) using Disk Utility. As your data is written to the first drive, it is automatically written to the second drive. If one drive fails, the data remains duplicated on the surviving drive.
With the preceding redundancy, you may wish to relegate TimeCapsule to just backing up your home directory. If you sought triple-redundancy for your media work, TimeCapsule would be spending significant time backing up those large, changing Lightroom catalogs via wireless.
I believe that the Thunderbolt display has its own internal Thunderbolt cable, in addition to the Thunderbolt port. Certainly does not state a Thunderbolt cable is included. You would need to purchase an additional Thunderbolt cable for the LaCie 2Big. Then, it probaby would be your preference as to Thunderbolt chaining.
If you haven't already, the mini should have 8 - 16GB of memory. This will bring the HD4000 up to 512MB VRAM.
Paired with the quad-core i7 and a SSD for the system disk would make for a snappy unit, especially for thread-aware applications like Photoshop.

  • Can I run an external display off the new LaCie 2Big Thunderbolt.

I currently run FCP 7 on a brand new MacBook Pro. I use the Thunderbolt port into a Thunderbolt to VGA adapter (third party) to run an external Asis 27" display. It all works quite well. But...
Right now I use a LaCie d2 Firewire 800 external HD as my scratch but would like to upgrade to the new LaCie 2Big Thunderbolt. I want to then run my external display (still using the adapter) off the second Thunderbolt port on the 2Big. Is this possible? My local Apple authorized store was very sceptical although they had never tested it, in fact, they haven't even sold a 2Big yet.
Has anyone done this? Am I going in the right direction. I don't want to pop for the 2Big (+$500) and find out the setup can't be done.
    Thanks

Yes, I've demo'd this a lot.  Thunderbolt out of a computer, to the drive, looped to a monitor.  AND!!  Thunderbolt to an AJA IoXT for broadcast monitoring, back out to the drive, then the drive to a computer display.
Boggles the mind, but it works

  • Get the MCC and the MNC of the SIM card and of the network

    Hello,
We publish a network speed and quality measurement application used on desktop, tablet and smartphone.
This application is called nPerf. It is available on desktop via a web browser at www.nperf.com, on iOS at ios.nperf.com and Android at android.nperf.com.
We are currently working on porting our solution for Windows Phone / Windows. The project is a universal project using Windows RT 8.1 (Visual Studio 2013 Express Update 4).
However, the project is currently "stuck" because we lack two essential information to identify the operator of the user: the MCC (Mobile Country Code) and MNC (Mobile Network Code), at least those contained in the SIM card.
Ideally, we would also need, in order of priority, the MCC and the MNC of the active connection (in the case of roaming), a DB signal strength of type RSSI or RSRP (more accurate than the number of reception bars displayed on the phone), the id of the cell
on which the connection is established (CellId) and the cell area code (LAC or TAC).
I have reviewed all the Windows RT 8.1 APIs available, particularly the namespace Windows.Networking.Connectivity and none seems to contain this information.
We would understand that it is not possible to access all this information but the SIM MCC and MNC are really needed and are available on other systems such as iOS or Android. It would really be a pity if we are not able to continue the development of this
application simply because these two information is not available ...
Would it be possible to tell us how to retrieve this information or, failing that, to give us the e-mail address or phone of a person likely to talk with us about this and identify possible steps to take to find a solution mutually acceptable?
    Thanking you in advance,
    FH Sarl company

    Hi Usnake,
“Mobile Network code” and “Mobile country code” has not public API to third party apps.

  • Lacie 2big thunderbolt drive won't stay asleep

I am connecting a Lacie 2big Thunderbolt drive to a 15" Macbook Pro late 2013. When the computer sleeps, the drive spins down and then immediately spins back up again, on and on. The drive will not stay asleep, but constantly powers down and then back up, down and then back up, on and on. Ejecting the disk first has no effect. In an odd twist, if I connect the disk through the thunderbolt port on a lacie esata/thunderbolt adapter that has an esata drive also connected and powered on, then the disks will power down and stay down when the computer sleeps. If, however, there is not a powered on esata disk connected to the hub, then the lacie thunderbolt drive will not stay asleep.
I contacted Lacie technical support and they replied "The automatic shut-off feature is based off the drive detecting a current being maintained across the Thunderbolt port. If your computer, even when powered off, keeps a little current running through, the drive may not know it is supposed to shut off or on. "
Has anybody else had this problem or connected this drive and had it work properly?

I have two of the LaCie 2big Thunderbolt devices (I hesitate to call them 'drives' because each device has two disk drives in the enclosure) and when I put my MBP to sleep (which is seldom) the drives 'sleep' (no spinning sounds).
I'm not sure why your device would be "detecting a current being maintained across the Thunderbolt port" - unless that's something new in the Retina machines (which I don't have!).
If I were you, I would work your way up the tech chain of command at LaCie - I've owned their drives for decades and have always had good luck with their technical support, even if I had to notch it up a bit to get satisfactory results.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • My Lacie 2big 6TB Raid just failed. Help!

    Hi
My Lacie 2Tb Raid just failed and I am looking for any advice on fixing it.
When I turned on my computer, I noticed that my raid didnt pop up. When I opened Disk Utility, it shows that one of the drives have failed. The image is below.
Is there any possible way to fix or recover that drive?
The HD was backed up a week ago, but I am not 100% sure what was added since then.
    Thanks

Call Lacie. If it's not under warranty, do yourself a favor and go buy something else.
I work in IT at a non-profit. We had 4 Lacie 2big units all fail within 12 months, all just out of warranty. They are pure junk. I won't touch them, ever again. One failure is one thing. drives fail. Everything fails eventually. But having 4 of them fail within that short a period of time is just inexcusable.

  • MacBook Pro with LaCie 2big Quadra

Just brought a 2tb LaCie 2big Quadra external raid drive to add to my macbook pro, the thought was to add a bigger drive capacity to my SSD (128GB) my thought were to move the home file from the macbook to the drive one, so my pictures, music and documents where all saved there, then via raid have all that data mirrored to drive 2, am I thinking about this in the right way

The only disadvantage that comes to mind that you may miss is a 'historical record' that Time Machine would provide.  If you were to trash something and found you needed it, your stuck.  Your backup would always reflect your current data.  If you can live with that, fine.  Perhaps some one else will come up some other issues.
    Ciao.

  • Connecting Lacie 5Big Network via eSATA

I purchased a Sonnet eSATA extender cable for my mac. I installed as instructed and with the system turned off I connected the Lacie via eSATA turned on the lacie first and waited till all the lights stopped flashing then turned on my Mac. I waited a bit but could see the drive mount on desktop so went into system profiler. The drive didn't show there or in Disk utility. What am I doing wrong. The drive was set up before as a network drive but I need to transfer 4TB of info and via a network and on to the Lacie RAID it was saying about 3 days. I still want to use it as a network drive after the transfer and so the extender was a perfect solution if it would work as it was only £25. Can anyone help as this is starting to do my nut in and if it takes more the 3 days to sort it I might was well of done it via the network.

The 5big Network drive has eSATA expansion ports - to add additional drives to the 5Big.
The ports are not to connect the unit via eSATA to a computer.
The 5big and connected drives can only be accessed via the network.
The 4big is LaCie's product to connect via USB, FireWire, or eSATA ports on a computer.
    Mike

  • Updated bios via Live Update and now my Network card isn't detected

I have an msi Z87-GD65 Gaming Motherboard and I updated some drivers and the bios via msi Live Update 6 last night and now my computer refuses to recognize my network adapter. The adapter is a TRENDnet N600, plugs into PCIe if I'm not mistaken. Wifi if my only option with this computer, I can't use ethernet, so it's really important I get the network card working again. I have had zero issues with it until this.
The reason I was updating was to try to get my third monitor to work when plugged into the mobo, while my other two were plugged into the graphics card (which I also installed yesterday, but it's working fine). Note that it still was not working, but I had enabled the IGD Multi-Monitor from bios.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. I did try uninstalling the drivers but it still won't detect the network card. I also tried disconnecting and reconnecting the network card (and I cleaned the port for good measure).
I've only been using Windows computers for a year, so bear with me if there's stuff I don't know. Thanks in advance. I can try to get a full list of what was installed later tonight, but all of it that I can find has been uninstalled at this point.
Note: I did not flash the bios when I installed, which I have now heard is a bad idea, apparently. l:

everytime i start my mac it asks for "Select a certificate or enter a name and password for network" and when i'll close it and reopen it, it still asks.
can somebody help with what am i suppose to do?

If you are currently showing WiFi status in the menu bar, you would see this icon:
If you see that near the top right corner, click it and choose "Join other network" from the drop down list.
If you do not see that icon, then go to System Preferences (under the Apple logo in the menu bar), ciick "Network", then choose "WiFi" and choose something (probably "Assist me" at the bottom) there.
