TIMEOUT : ReportJobServer - DESTINATION (SMTP)

BOE-XI (R2)
We get a sporadic problem, when we have a large number of reports that are set-up for e-mail distribution around the same time.
The SMTP server threads get overwhelmed and some of the instances FAIL or do not get delivered to the e-mail recipient.
We have increased the SMTP threads on our GroupWise e-mail server - and that has reduced the issue...but not fixed it 100%.
There are no CMC-accessible "timeout" setting on the DESTINATION (SMTP) set-up on the ReportJobServers in XI...and I don't know what the DEFAULT is.
Does anyone know how long the JobServer waits for a response from the SMTP server - and are there any HIDDEN "timeout" settings for SMTP that can be Modified in XI...?
Thanks in advance!

  • SMTP Send Timeout

Is it possible to configure a send timeout for outgoing SMTP messages, so that SAP regards the send order as failed if the timeout expires before the remote server accepts the data with "250 OK" ?
I test with a MiniSap 710 system. It seems that when the send timeout (2 min) expires, the message is regarded as successfully sent. At least the recipient list in the SAPConnect outbox says "Recipient .... is valid. Delivery attempted." and no retries are done.

  • Is Verizon blocking all external SMTP servers now? 465 / 587 not working either

I have an Dreamhost hosting account which handles all my email, don't use Verizon at all.
For last year or so have used 587 w/ STARTTLS with no issues. Always worked fine.
Suddenly can't connect at all from Verizon. Configuration unchanged on client side, but all attempts to contact that host will timeout.  But fire up my VPN to tunnel the traffic and it works fine.  And exact same client PC works fine in dozens of other locations / networks with same config.
Can't find anything at all in my router that would indicate an issue.  Config unchanged from when it was working fine.
Tried 465 w/ SSL/TLS and same result - works great via tunnel, blocked on Verizon.
    Recap:
Destination SMTP server = a Dreamhost server
587 / STARTTLS fails to connect via Verizon, fine via VPN and same client hardware/config on other networks
465 / SSL/TLS fails to connect via Verizon, fine via VPN and same client hardware/config on other networks
Any suggestions?  Has Verizon suddenly blocked a number of hosting companies? Quite irritating to have to fire up the tunnel just because of sending basic emails.

Based on your description of the issue, I wonder if maybe Dreamhost is blocking connections from your IP? Do you know if your IP address has changed recently?
I would recommend getting a new IP address to see if that helps. The simplest way to do this is to turn off your router for a few hours. (Before you go to bed or out to run errands are good times.)

How do you configure e-mail, fax, paging or SMS in the SAP Web Application Server using SMTP?
Which prerequisites and settings are required outside the SAP system?
    Other terms
    INT, FAX, PAG, SAPconnect, SMTP
    Reason and Prerequisites
    Some information is missing.
    Solution
General information, architecture, prerequisites, system environment
When e-mails are transferred using SMTP, the SAP Web Application Server communicates directly with a mail server. No gateway or connector is necessary.
You can use any SMTP-compatible product as a mail server.
The SAP system always transfers the outbound mails to a single mail server. You can set its host address and port number.
The SAP system can receive inbound mails from any number of mail servers. You can reach each client using separate, configurable port numbers. You can address the SAP system or its client most effectively by using an individual subdomain for each client (for example, "crm-prod.company.com"). The assignment of these subdomains to host name and port numbers of the SAP system is defined by the routing rules on the mail servers.
As of Release 6.20, you can also send and receive fax and SMS or paging messages using SMTP. These are packed in e-mails for this purpose. When sending, the mail server refers to the domain of the recipients' addresses, and directs the e-mails either to a internal company fax/SMS server (for example "[email protected]") or to an external provider (for example, "[email protected]"). When receiving, the fax or SMS server or the provider sends e-mails to addresses with the domain of the SAP system (for example "[email protected]").
    Configuration
    1. Profile parameter
To be able to use the SMTP functions, you must adjust the profile of the SAP Web Application Server. We recommend that you activate SMTP on all application servers of an SAP system. If this is not the case, the SAPconnect send job may only be scheduled for servers on which SMTP is active. The scheduling is then done by the standard job definition (transaction SM36) rather than by the SAPconnect administration (transaction SCOT, for a description, see 4.c).
For SMTP, you must set the profile parameters listed below. The placeholder <*> stands for a number with which the parameters that can occur several times are numbered sequentially, starting with 0.
    a) icm/server_port_<*> = PROT=SMTP,PORT=<port>
This opens a TCP/IP port for receiving mails by the SMTP Plug-In. <port> specifies the number of the port that you should use.  This must not be occupied by any other program on this host (for example, Sendmail usually uses port 25). If no mails (including status notifications) are to be received in this SAP system, <port> can be set to 0.
You can use the TIMEOUT option to define a maximum wait time for a response from the mail server (in seconds).
    b) is/SMTP/virt_host_<*> = <host>:<port>,<port>,...;
This defines a "virtual mail host" for receiving mails. If all incoming mails (including status notifications) are to be received and processed in a single client of this SAP system, this parameter is not required (an entry is/SMTP/virt_host_0 = : is then assumed by default). If you want several clients to be able to receive, you must create a virtual mail host for every client. <host> specifies the name of the host to which incoming mails are addressed. The "*" value can also be specified here if the mail distribution is to occur independently of the addressed host. Important: If the mail is to be distributed according to host names, you must assign different IP addresses to these host names. <port> specifies the number of a port to which incoming mails are addressed. Several ports may be specified for each host, and several hosts (with several ports if necessary) may be specified for each virtual mail host. Important: The parameter line must always be completed with a semicolon (even if only one host is involved).
The assignment of virtual mail hosts to clients is carried out in the SAP system (see 3).
                  Example:
With two clients capable of receiving mail, the profile parameters could read as follows (as of Release 6.20):
       icm/server_port_0 = PROT=HTTP,PORT=1080
      icm/server_port_1 = PROT=HTTPS,PORT=1443
      icm/server_port_2 = PROT=SMTP,PORT=25000,TIMEOUT=180
      icm/server_port_3 = PROT=SMTP,PORT=25001,TIMEOUT=180
      is/SMTP/virt_host_0 = *:25000;
       is/SMTP/virt_host_1 = *:25001;
    2. User administration (transaction SU01)
    a) System user
In each client of an SAP system in which incoming mails (or status notifications for sent mails) are to be received, a system user must be created to process the incoming messages. To do this, use transaction SU01 to create a user of the type "system", and assign the "S_A.SCON" profile to this user.
Important: Contrary to the documentation for user types, users of type "system" are also subject to password expiry, which can prevent the receipt of mails. To avoid this, use user type "service" until a correction of the incorrect behavior of type "system" is available.
    b) User addresses
Each individual user who wants to receive e-mails in an SAP system needs an Internet mail address. This is also used as a sender address for sending e-mails. In transaction SU01, enter the Internet mail address of a user in the field "E-Mail" under "Address". As a domain, use the domain of the SAP system client if possible (see "General information" above and 4.a), for example "[email protected]".
    3. Client assignment (transaction SICF)
For each client of an SAP system in which incoming mails (or status notifications for sent mails) are to be received, and processed if necessary, you must create an SMTP server in which the assignment to a virtual mail host as well as the logon data is defined. In transaction SICF, an SMTP server (envelope icon) should already be available in every SAP system. This is delivered by SAP. Use this for the first client that you want to be able to receive mails, and create a new SMTP server for every other client. You must make the following settings on the SMTP servers:
    a) Host data
For "Profile Parameter Number", enter the sequence number of a parameter is/SMTP/virt_host_<*> from the profile. If you have only one client and did not create such a parameter in the profile, enter 0.
    b) Service data
Enter the client into which the mails received using this virtual mail host are to be directed, as well as the logon data (user, password, language) of the service user that was created for inbound mails (see 2.a).
    c) Handler list
Enter CL_SMTP_EXT_SAPCONNECT in the first position.
As of Release 6. 20, you must activate the SMTP server after you create or change it (Service/Virt.Host --> Activate, or right-click).
    4. SAPconnect administration (transaction SCOT)
You have to make the SAPconnect settings separately in each client from which e-mails are to be sent or in which e-mails are to be received.
    a) Default domain
The domain of this SAP system client is defined here, for example, crm-prod.company.com. It is used for the following purposes:
The SMTP Plug-In logs on to the mail server with the domain as ID.
The message ID of outgoing mails is created with this domain.
If an SAP user who has not entered an Internet mail address in their user master record sends an e-mail, a sender address is generated from the SAP user name and this domain, for example [email protected].
    b) Nodes
There are different types of node in SAPconnect:
SMTP nodes (for the SMTP function of the SAP application server)
HTTP nodes (for paging or SMS providers using Web services, as of 6.20)
RFC nodes (for old RFC-compatible e-mail/fax/paging gateways)
There is always a single SMTP node in each client. It is created automatically by the system and cannot be deleted. It is configured as follows (double-click on the node name):
    Select "Node in use".
Under "Mail Host" and "Mail Port", specify the mail server to which outbound mails are to be transferred.
    Select "Set" for "Internet".
Specify address areas of recipient addresses that are to be reached using these nodes (usually "*" if all e-mails are to be sent using SMTP).
For "Output Formats for SAP Documents", the following is recommended:
       SAPscript / Smart Forms      PDF
       ABAP List                    HTM
       Business Object / Link        HTM
       RAW Text                      TXT
If fax messages are also to be sent using SMTP:
    Select "Set" for "Fax".
Specify address areas of recipient addresses that are to be reached using these nodes (usually "*" if all faxes are to be sent using SMTP).
For "Output Formats for SAP Documents", the following is recommended:
       SAPscript / Smart Forms      PDF
       ABAP List                    PDF
       Business Object / Link        TXT
       RAW Text                      TXT
For "Conversion into Internet Address", enter the domain of the fax server or fax provider. The local part of the Internet address is generated automatically by the system. The address then has the form "FAX=+recipientnumber@domain".
If paging or SMS messages are also to be sent using SMTP:
    Select "Set" for "Pager(SMS)".
Specify address areas of recipient addresses that are to be reached using these nodes (usually "*" if all paging or SMS messages are to be sent using SMTP).
For "Conversion into Internet Address", enter the domain of the paging or SMS server or paging or SMS provider. The local part of the Internet address is generated automatically by the system. The address then has the form "SMS=+recipientnumber@domain".
Important: To be able to use paging or SMS in the SAP system, names must be defined for the messaging services to be used (e.g. "SMS"). You can do this using transaction SA14.
    c) Send job
E-mails that are sent from an SAP application are merely put into a queue. A periodically running background process, the SAPconnect send job, takes the e-mails from the queue and sends them by Internet. This job can be scheduled from SAPconnect administration as follows:
Choose "View" --> "Jobs". Check whether a job is already scheduled (displayed as a calendar icon).
Choose "Job" --> "Create", and specify a job name.
Place the cursor on the "SAP&CONNECTALL" variant, and choose "Schedule Job".
    Choose "Schedule periodically".
Specify a time interval (for example, 10 minutes), and choose "Create".
    d) Receiving
With the settings made so far, SAP users can already receive e-mails in their inbox in the Business Workplace (transaction SBWP) at the address entered in the user master record.
If, on receipt of e-mails to a specific address or with specific contents (for example XML documents), you want a program that processes these e-mails to start automatically, you can configure this under "Settings" --> "Inbound Processing".
If, on receipt of e-mails to a specific address or from a specific sender, you want these to be directed automatically to another recipient or a distribution list, you can configure this under "Settings" --> "Inbound Distribution".
    5. Settings on the mail server (SAP-external configuration)
To be able to receive mails in the SAP system, you need to set your mail server so that certain mail addresses are forwarded to one or several SAP systems or clients. For this purpose, you need to define routing rules that assign a mail host and/or port to address areas (generic address parts, usually the domain), for example:
          *@crm-prod.company.com  -->  SAPWASHost:25000
          *@crm-test.company.com  -->  SAPWASHost:25001
For more information about the exact setting procedure, see the mail server documentation. Note 546147 describes where the documentation can be found for the Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server, and what to do if your mail server does not allow routing to ports other than port 25.

Your computer can't connect to a computer named "son1175", or if it can then that computer isn't running a server listening at port 25. Talk to your network people if your computer name is the right one and ask them why not. It is nothing to do with programming.

  • SMTP Dispute !!

    Hello fiends,
Recently, I made one SMTP server (in Java) and showed it to my college teacher. He said my server is wrong.
    Teacher said
    1) There is nothing called SMTP receiver, that is, SMTP can only send emails and can never accept emails. Only POP3 or IMAP can accept emails from other SMTP servers.
    2) I told him that my SMTP receiver will put the email in the user mail boxes directly and after that user can use POP3 client to fetch the emails from there. He says I am wrong, according to him SMTP can neither accept an email nor it can put it in users mail box directly.
After getting some lectures from him, I have still not changed my mind.
    I think
    1) There is SMTP sender that sends email to destination SMTP receiver.
    2) SMTP receiver then puts the received email in a common storage, from there the distributing agent tranfers the mail to user mail boxes or the receiver can directly put the mail in the user mail box.
I even told him that I have read RFC 821 and its given in it, but he doesn't know anything about RFC or anything about its existence. He feels my basics are not clear !!
This is getting very serious now, he has insulted me in front of all and my project has not received any attention.
I just want to know whose statements are wrong. Please tell me if I am making any mistakes.
You people have always helped me.
    Thanks

It could be that you are discussing different things?
A mail client (e.g outlook) uses POP3/IMAP to get mailes from the mail server, but uses SMTP to send mails. A client doesn't need to be connected using e.g. POP3 and SMTP to the same server. It can look like this.
--------  sending mail SMTP   -------------------      SMTP
    |      |--------------------> |  SMTP server (1) | -------------------------
    |      |                      -------------------                           |
    |Client|                                                                    V
    |      | Receiving mail POP3  ------------------------     SMTP            -------------------
    |      |<-------------------- | POP3/SMTP server (2) | <------------------ | SMTP server (3) |
    (1) Does not accept mail, only used to send.
    (2) Does only accept mail, never used to send.
    (3) Another company SMTP server, which is used to both send/receive mail.Could it be that your teacher is talking about this scenario?

  • Exch 2013 Forwarding Mail from local account to External SMTP user

New 2013 implementation... Two Servers (Front End and Back End) both running Exchange 2013.
I am having trouble sending a local AD Exchange mailbox mail to external SMTP address.  I have tried several options.. I have created an "contact" as was required in previous versions.  I have created new AD accounts with external SMTP addresses,
I have also attempted to use the scriptlet:
    Set-Mailbox -Identity "%AD-USER%" -DeliverToMailboxAndForward $true -ForwardingSMTPAddress
[email protected]  (%AD-USER% was actual AD Username/mailbox) and
[email protected] was actual receipient SMTP address ([email protected])
Local AD Mailbox receives the mail appropriately however I have enabled forwarding everyway I know how and nothing seems to work.  If I send mail straight from my account to the destination SMTP address, they get it; just not if it is sent to the local
AD account then forwarded via -DeliverToMailboxAndForward command...
Please help.. I have several users that I need to have their mail CC'd to an external SMTP address.. Previous versions of Exchange required a "Contact" to be created and then the mailbox forwarded to that contact, which had a SMPT mail address...
Im not adverse to implementing via powershell if I can just get it to work... Any suggestions are greatly appreciated and needed.

I spent several hours on this but I found the perfect solution to forward to external and internal emails.
In my case, I needed to forward to more the one external email (This applies to Exchange 2013):
    Here is how:
    Using the EAC,
    1) Make sure that ENABLE FORWARDING is unselected under the delivery options in mailbox features for your particular user.
    2) Create all the External Contacts you need to forward in the CONTACTS tab in RECIPIENTS.
    3) Create a group in the GROUPS tab, give it a meaningful Display name, and for ALIAS, make sure it is
a name that does not exist in any mailbox. This name will make part of a new email for that group.
You will need this email later to us in the SHELL for the last step.
Further down, under members, click on the plus sign to add all the contacts you wish to forward. You might want to uncheck ADD GROUP OWNER AS MEMBER.
Leave everything else with the defaults and click SAVE.
    4) After you save, go back and edit the same GROUP you just created and click on delivery management.
Click the SENDERS INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF MY ORGANIZATION radio so that any external emails are accepted.
    CLICK SAVE.
Using the EXCHANGE SHELL enter the following command that will forward emails to that new group and keep
a copy of the email in the mailbox.
    Substitute "user_to_forward_email" and "groupaliasemailaddress"
    with your information:
    Set-Mailbox  username_to_forward  -ForwardingAddress groupaliasemailaddress
    THIS WORKED PERFECT FOR ME
Note that at this point  you cannot use the EAC to forward to groups.
I don't know why but Microsoft should fix this
unless there is something I don't know.
HOPE THIS HELPS everyone out there looking for this type of scenario.

  • Initializing SMTP server

    Hi all...
How to initializing SMTP server in CMC?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Handri

SMPT is configured per job server in the CMC
    CMC/servers/jobserver/destinations/SMTP
1st you must enable it, then set the server defaults, insure the account(s) used have the rights to send via SMTP (this is external to business objects) - see your email administrator.

  • Mail service in windows2003 server

i have old server has windows 2003 server
i want to apply mails through this server
and i did that but my question
how can i connect between external mail and internal mail
how can i create distribute list
    how can i backup mails

    Hi Alaa,
The Windows 2003 email service is just a IIS component for email relay\routing SMTP service. You can't have distribution list or backup emails as such. (You need to use Exchange Server for those premium features and control). Its just a SMTP Gateway service.
Typically, the following folder is the queue folder, which can be backedup if you like to:
    %SystemDrive%\inetpub\mailroot\queue
    SMTP Server Setup (IIS 6.0)
(SMTP) service provided by IIS is a simple component for delivering outgoing
e-mail messages. Delivery of a message is initiated by transferring the message
to a designated SMTP server. Based on the domain name of the recipient e-mail
address, the SMTP server initiates communications with a Domain Name System
(DNS) server, which looks up and then returns the host name of the destination
    SMTP server for that domain.
Next, the originating SMTP server communicates with the destination SMTP
server directly through Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
on port 25. If the user name of the recipient e-mail address matches one of the
authorized user accounts on the destination server, the original e-mail message
is transferred to that server, waiting for the recipient to pick up the message
    through a client program.
In the case where the originating SMTP server cannot communicate directly
with the destination server, the SMTP service can transfer messages through one
or more intermediate relay SMTP servers. A relay server receives the original
message and then delivers it to the destination server, or redirects it to
another relay server. This process is repeated until the message is delivered or
    a designated timeout period passes.

  • How to receive email in SAP SBWP or SO01 ?

    Hi,
I have no problem to configure SAP to send mail out. Now want to configure it to receive mail in SAP Inbox (SBWP/SO01) but not successful.
    Found the thread
Receiving e-mails in SAP (from Exchange 2000)
    but information is limited.
    My system info
    a.) SAP = ECC6
b.) Mail server = Lotus Notes
    Have done below
a.) Created an SAP ID (testID) with email address
    testID(a)test.companyname.com in SU01
b.) Configured SCOT to allow for outbound and tested ok. Default domain = test.companyname.com
c.) Have configured below parameter based on notes 455140 & 546147
    is/SMTP/virt_host_0                         *:25;
    icm/server_port_1                           PROT=SMTP,PORT=25,TIMEOUT=180
d.) Have asked Mail Administrator to relay
    testID(a)test.companyname.com to my SAP server.
    Testing
a.) In SBWP, send an external email. Work fine.
b.) Use external mail reply to
    testID(a)test.companyname.com, cannot receive in SBWP
According to Mail Administrator, all mail to the domain test.companyname.com will be relayed to my SAP server, they don't keep the mail.
I wonder what else I need to configure in order to receive the mail in SBWP.
    Please advise.
    Thanks.
    Regards,
    Kent

    Hi,
After set below parameter in RZ10
    icm/server_port_1                           PROT=SMTP,PORT=25000,TIMEOUT=180
    is/SMTP/virt_host_0                         *:25000;
In SMICM --> Goto --> Services, the Service Name/Port for SMTP will be 25000 with Active status, which I think is not right as the Mail Server can only route to port 25.
So I delete both from RZ10 and change it
    icm/server_port_1                           PROT=SMTP,PORT=25,TIMEOUT=180
Now the SMTP service is pointing to 25, but it is not Active. Check trace file, SMICM --> Goto --> Trace File --> Display All , shows below message
    [Thr 3599] *** ERROR => NiIBindSocket: SiBind failed for hdl 6 / sock 19

    mail from:<kent(a)companyname.com>
    250 OK.
    rcpt to:<kent(a)companyname.com>
553 Relaying blocked at this site.
Mail team claimed that they have set the relay or routing, they have set to treat test.companyname.com as external domain, and relay to my SAP server whenever the mail server receives mail belong to that domain.
When I send to kent(a)test.companyname.com, i don't get returned mail but SAP inbox also not receive the mail.
When I send to kent(a)xxx.companyname.com, i received a returned mail saying that the domain is not valid.
So I assume the routing is already in place.
    Please advise.
    Thanks.

  • How to edit a plist via script in OSX 10.7+

With the changes made to Lion, with regards to LDAP authentication, I find myself having to edit the my-ldap-server.plist in /Library/Preferences/OpenDirectory/Configurations/LDAPv3/ manually in Xcode at every install; specifially I need to add some entries to the "Denied SASL Methods" array. I think I can do this with PlistBuddy, but am having problems figuring it out. Copy/Paste from terminal, some items editted to protect the guilty. Here's what I see:
    backuplt1:Desktop user1$ /usr/libexec/PlistBuddy ldap.test.org.plist
    Command: print
    Dict {

  • Email CollectOverMetrics.ps1 HTML Report

Exchange 2013 SP1 with 2 member DAG with 1 DB. I want to monitor the DAG using collectovermetrics.ps1. I want to have the html report from collectovermetrics.ps1 email to administrators. I know I have to have task scheduler run the command:
    CollectOverMetrics.ps1 -DatabaseAvailabilityGroup DAG1 -StartTime "06/15/2012" -EndTime "06/16/2012" -GenerateHTMLReport –ShowHTMLReport
But how do I have that report emailed? I know you can use:
Send-MailMessage -To [email protected] -From [email protected] -subject "This is a test" -Credential (Get-Credential)
    But this fails with:
send-mailmessage : The email cannot be sent because no SMTP server was specified. You must specify an SMTP s

    Can anyone help with this?

We don't know what's going on when you run Scheduled Tasks with this cmdlet so let's separate the script and scheduled tasks.
Create a file called "C:\Scheduled Tasks\Collect Metrics.cmd" and add below content (don't add -WindowStyle Hidden which will make the window invisiable)
    REM ----------------------------- Start
    C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\powershell.exe -NonInteractive -command ". 'C:\Scheduled Tasks\Collect Metrics.ps1'"
    REM ----------------------------- End
Now create another file called "C:\Scheduled Tasks\Collect Metrics.ps1" and add this content...
    #----------------------------- Start
    . 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\bin\RemoteExchange.ps1'; Connect-ExchangeServer -auto
    . 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\Scripts\CollectOverMetrics.ps1' -DatabaseAvailabilityGroup DAGDB1 -StartTime (Get-Date).AddDays(-1) -EndTime (Get-Date) -GenerateHTMLReport
    $attachment = "C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\Scripts\" + (Get-ChildItem "C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\Scripts\*.htm" | ?{$_.lastwritetime -gt (get-date).addhours(-1)}).name
send-mailmessage -to [email protected] -from [email protected] -subject "this is a test" -smtpserver "FQDN of email server" -Attachments "$attachment"
    #----------------------------- End
Now go to command prompt and go to path C:\Scheduled Tasks and run "Collect Metrics.cmd" that will show you what is going on when it is getting executed... This will help you to find what's the issue is...
Once you are able to address the issue which is coming during this run, just schedule the "C:\Scheduled Tasks\Collect Metrics.ps1" under task scheduler with the account which has proper Exchange 2013 rights and by selecting "Run weather
user is logged on or not"  and "Run with highest privileges" under that task...
Here is the output from the collect metrics.cmd:
    C:\Scheduled Tasks>REM ----------------------------- Start
    C:\Scheduled Tasks>C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\powershell.exe -No

  • RFC Processing time out

    hello everybody,
is there a way to configure the timeout limit for processing RFC's receivers???? cause I'm getting a timeout error for some interfaces where the time processing is really long and is business requirement to do this synchronously, thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Julio Cesar

    Julio,
I had a similar issue some time back and used the following three parameters
    1. Visual Administrator
SAP XI Adapter: RFC parameter <b>syncMessageDeliveryTimeoutMsec</b>
This parameter is explained in SAP Note 730870 Q14 and SAP Note 791379
    2. Alert Configuration
    SA_COMM parameter  <b> CHECK_FOR_ASYNC_RESPONSE_TIMEOUT</b>
This parameter specifies the maximum time in seconds that can pass between the arrival of the synchronous request message on the Integration Server and the asynchronous response message.  If this time period is exceeded, a system error is returned to the caller.
    3. Integration Process <b>TimeoutControlStep</b>
My design is such that timeout parameter 3 which is set in the Integration Process will be triggered first.  This will give me control to handle the timeout via an SMTP email prior to either of the other timeouts taking effect
    Regards,
    Mike
