Timer on iPod Classic?

I am iPod shopping. Is there a timer on the iPod so I can set it to run for an hour, and then it will shut itself off??

There's a sleep timer that can help you. Go to Extras then Alarms then to Sleep Timer.

  • Setting the time in iPod Classic

    Hello,
I set the time in 24 h mode as this is normal in Germany. When changing the time, the screen still shows the American way in 12 h mode. How can I change this, too?
    Best regards

    Hi Jochen,
Clock control will display only the System time but you can change it by defining the 'Time Zone' dropdown in 'Display' tab of Clock properties.

  • When I plug my my Ipod classic into my PC it crashes

Because of the bossy media player conflicts that go along with Itunes, I decided to use a different Media Management software component in my Windows Media Center Edition PC( Sony Vaio ). I have almost 85GB of music on my Ipod Classic and it was quite a laborous task to actually sync all of it w Itunes at first, but Media Monkey works great. Anyway, now after successfully using this to add music from time to time with no difficulty, now every time I plug the Ipod classic into the machine, it recognizes it like always, but quickly Media Monkey stops responding.
..............wait there is more, I tried just for kicks plugging in my old scratched up class action suit 2GB Nano, and BLAM!  No problems.
So, I'm sure it could be Media Monkey also, but every time the Ipod classic is plugged into the USB port, before MM can get going, the "safely remove hardware" icon appears in the tray, and then MM stops responding.
........Whenever I click on the Safely remove hardware icon, a tree shows this
USB Mass Storage device in Drive:D
                                                                                                              Apple Ipod device
then my HP 2400 series printer DOT4USB .....kinda like this!
P.S. I used to have an Iphone 3GS and Itunes kept poking my eyes out. However with the Iphone, I was forced to manage it w Itunes, and last year, it started throwing up a WARNING box when I started up Itunes, telling me that my CD/DVD burning drivers were missing..."please reinstall Itunes". I must have actually tried 3 or 4 different versions of the **** Itunes software because it never stopped giving the WARNING...I Hate You box every time it started up.
Nevertheless, I can live without Itunes, because I assassinated my Iphone. However, I just want harmony. HELP ME PLEASE! I understand that my PC is a strange species, but I can't stomach ging up XP, and learning all the BS over again with a differnt OS.

Many thanks for the reply The Hatter!
    The machine isn't new but is new to me, I formatted it and re-installed OS 10.5.8 and installed latest updates. Spec is as follows;
    MacPro3,1
    2x Quad 2.8 Xeon's
    2GB Ram
    ATI Radeon HD2600
I'm running the display through the analog cable into a converter. There is HDMI port but I guess to try that I'd need to buy another type of converter (if one exists). The display doesn't have a DVI port so maybe this is the issue? Lower resolution settings in OS fill the screen nicely but obviously this looks totally waff as its all big and low res...
Looked for an update on the ATI site for a newer driver but my machine says it doesn't need updating.
I wondered if there might be some software around that can give me more options in OS for display settings?
Not the end of the world but its very frustrating that I've lost 4 inches of my display for no obvious reason!

  • [solved] iPod Classic disconnects during transfer

if I transfer more than a couple songs at a time, my iPod Classic 160GB disconnects during transfer. on Lubuntu, I could get away with about 40 tracks at a time, now it disconnects if I do more than a couple. I'm not sure the issue, lsusb says I'm using a usb 2.0 port
    [ tye@t: ~ ]$ lsusb -s 001:008 -v | grep -i bcdusb
    bcdUSB 2.00
one more detail: when the USB disconnects during transfer, it's no longer visible in lsusb, where as when I eject it it still remains visible.

  • When connected via USB, my Ipod Classic 160GB mounts as a disc drive, then changes to a white drive.  When iTunes automatically opens, it crashes trying to mount and/ or sync.  When it times out, my only choice is to restore, but that doesn't fix problem.

I'm running OS 10.6.8 on my 3.06 GHz iMac Intel Core 2 Duo.   I recently upgraded to iTunes 10.5.2.  I'm not sure when the trouble started but I attempted a restore when the iPod would not play correctly.  It would start to play a file and get stuck on 0 seconds.  If I put the iPod on shufle, it will stall on 0 seconds for 15 seconds or so and then move on to the next track and stall again and so on.   Seemingly randomly, it will play a few tracks but eventually start skipping again.  This will continue until the battery is depleted which is fairly quick since the drive is constantly spinning.
My 160GB iPod Classic after restore attempts now is up to date with 2.0.4. and of course, nothing works as it should and I would say the skipping issue is worse than ever.
When I connect with any of three USB connectors, the iPod mounts to the desktop as a grey/silver disk drive picon exactly like the Macintosh HD picon.   Then Finder will stall for a few minutes- spinning pinwheel.  Somehow, the dock is never affected and I am able to open other applications like Safari or tab through open windows- just no action on the desktop.  Eventually, iTunes automatically opens and Finder becomes responsive again.  At this point the grey drive picon on the desktop becomes a white drive mount picon, but the iPod does not mount in iTunes, yet.  At some point, the iPod attempts to sync, iTunes crashes with the spinning pinwheel and eventually times out and I am prompted to restore the iPod again.  Once restored,  the iPod properly mounts under devices in iTunes and, as I have done this several times, even occasionally changes to the regular iPod picon on the desktop.
I have restored several times going as far a completely deleting iTunes from my iMac, downloading the latest directly from Apple.com, and attempting to restore again, but to no avail.
I have even used the disk utility to verify and/or repair my Macintosh HD and iPod.
It seems lots of folks are going through this ordeal.  Has anyone had any success in fixing the issue, even if only temporarily?

one more detail, after a restore, when I attempt to reload music to the ipod, if I try and move, say, 20 files, the transfer seems to work as it should but then stalls on the last file.  Eventually, the status will change to "Updates Files on (my ipod)" a and suggests the iPod is syncing  even though I have the auto sync feature turned off.
This process eventually works itself out, and seems to take longer relative to the number of files I attempt to transfer.   Once done, howver, if I try and eject and dismount the iPod, iTunes stalls with the spinning pinwheel and I am warned that the iPod is syncing again with the spinning candy cane status bar.     Eventually thisd works itself out and the iPod dismounts from iTunes and the desktop and eventually the iPod is free to disconnect.
Then if I try and play the music I just transfered, the iPod says there is no music loaded.
    Ideas?

  • My 6th generation Ipod Classic will not eject, works fine otherwise and properly goes thru sync cycle.  A message shows files are in use and device can't be ejected.  If I close my internet browser it will eject properly every time.

I have a new HP Pavilion running Windows 7 with lots of memory and a terabyte of storage, using iTunes 11 with a 6th generation Ipod Classic.  Have used my current iPod for years with no problem until today; when I try to eject the device iTunes stops responding, there is a delay of about 10-15 seconds until a message box pops up: "the ipod cannot be ejected as there are files in use."  It also won't eject from the windows taskbar, same type of message appears. iTunes remains unresponsive until I click "ok" on the message box. I've reset the ipod twice and disabled the "enable disk use" button for the ipod -- with no change in symptom.
I am not certain as to the fix but am 100% sure that the problem does not occur if I close my open browser; it occurs only when I have an Internet browser open.  I experimented with Google Chrome that I normally use, and also with Internet Explorer -- when either browser is being used the ipod cannot be ejected.
I've used iTunes 11 for about 3-4 weeks and this problem had not occurred until today.

I have had similar issues with mine, happens mainly if I transfer songs and then decide to disconnect my iPod to listen to them with my IEMs (I use Interenet Explorer in my case and it is not neccessarely up when this happens, so I seriously doubt it is an issue conencted to the web browser). I have no patience for this so my trick is I try to eject it from iTunes, if that does not work, then I bring Windows explorer up, right mouse click on the iPod mounted drive and select Eject. It gives me the same warning but there is a third button selection called Continue. When I choose that it just disconnets the drive anyway and the iPod is finally disconnected. It seems to work each and every time I do it so this solution is fine for me. Would be intersting to see what the real root cause of this is because I started getting this problem with the newer iTunes 11.

  • Itunes is no longer synching with my ipod classic. I have changed computers a few times. itunes knows it's my ipod, but won't synch. Possibly something I need to do with the network?

I haven't been able to synch for a very long time. I'm finally tired enough of the same music constantly on my ipod that I'm trying again to find some help. I'm computer literate, but not a tech person by any stretch.
According to itunes, I'm not due for a software upgrade until later this month and yet it seems also to reject my request to check for software upgrades. Which seems like there isn't a connection. The fact that it says I'm not due yet makes me think it does happen.
One thing I've gotten lately is the message "itunes isn't my default" and when I go to make it and check everything for itunes and nothing for windows media, nothing changes and I get the message again. This morning I checked "All" and will see if that makes a difference.
I was unable to connect to itunes store until this week. For some reason it worked and I was able to download a movie.
Apple says I have no coverage for help from them -- of course.

Then i try and plug it into my pc with iTunes on (i've set it to do not automatically sync devices) but it still freezes every time. the only way to unfreeze it is by detatching the ipod or resetting with menu/centre (until it loads up again, where it immediately unfreezes and comes up with a load of messages saying "cannot read iPod" and when i try and restore it by pressing menu/centre button while it's plugged in, it says "cannot restore as it is being used by another program" or "error 1415". Any ideas how to sort this out? hope i haven't majorly screwed it up. thanks.

  • IPod classic displays 'No music' after sync, HDD problem? Geschiedenis • Verwijder  So recently I synced my iPod Classic 160 GB like I did so many times and when I wanted to play some music afterwards it couldn't find any files on the iPod anymore. H

So recently I synced my iPod Classic 160 GB like I did so many times and when I wanted to play some music afterwards it couldn’t find any files on the iPod anymore. However when you look in the settings it displays that ~roughly 90 GB free space is available. Seen the fact that I had about 60 gigs of music this doesn’t seem like a coincidence and I think my music is still somewhere on the ipod but the HDD isn’t recognizing it anymore.
I’ve tried resetting it, and resetting it to factory settings, which didn’t work. When connected to a desktop it won’t be recognized by iTunes, it displays an error message that the iPod cannot be read and that I have to reset it to factory settings.
I’ve spent some time researching this problem yesterday and I ran into a myriad of vaguely similar problems didn’t really offer any help. Currently I’m thinking that formatting the iPod might work, and restoring the software afterwards. However this is a rather bold strategy so I’d like to consult you here first.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi turingtest2,
Thank you for the info, with formatting my iPod I managed to connect it to iTunes again.
However..in the page you linked to there is a section about how transferring large amounts of data can dump your library. That seems to be the problem in this case. It won't even allow me to transfer more than 2 gigabytes of music per sync, if I go higher it will dump everything again. Having over >60 GB of music in my library, this is disastrous to say the least.
Do you think that there is any other solution besides the method you mentioned involving Smart Playlists?

  • I have a new 160GB iPod Classic. I often listen to it for many hours at a time. Even with Itunes and the Classic set on shuffle it repeats songs often and only plays a small fraction of my songs. Help!            of my

When listening for hours to my new Clasic 160 with several thousand songs and both itunes and the Classic set to shuffle all songs it only plays a small fraction of my library and plays many songs several times over that period. It also seems to pick a small different group of songs to repeat without touching many of most of my songs each time I start listening. Over 98% of the music is legally owned in my CD collection. A few are down loads which play! There should be no issues with ownership. Please help. As much as I like all my tunes I want to actually hear them all. There are many many albums that have never been played.

Okay, well we've eliminated a couple of things.
One thing I have noticed about the iPod Classic: I suspect that "shuffle" is actually a Playlist, not a real shuffle. The Classic is not as powerful as iTunes or a desktop/computer, so it cannot truely "shuffle songs". I suspect what happens is that every Sync of the Classic with its iTunes Library causes a revised "shuffle playlist" to be put on the iPod and then, when you choose Shuffle play, it actually uses that special hidden "shuffle playlist".
So one trick is to Sync your iPod with iTunes frequently. This would change the "shuffle playlist". Another trick would be to create your own Playlists, either by adding what you want to a Regular Playlist or by creating a Smart Playlist which adds and removes songs by itself.
Smart Playlists: for example, you can create a Smart Playlist (in iTunes) which contains a random selection of all songs, or a random selection of a particular group of songs, provided the song has not been played for a period of time, say six months, or 300 days. Every Sync of the iPod with iTunes would remove any song from that Smart Playlist if it has been played. That same song cannot go back into the Playlist for a period of six months, or whatever you choose.
This way, you can reduce the likelyhood of hearing the same songs too often. This brings me to another point. If you have the same song, on different albums, then it's possible that you are hearing that same song but from both albums.
Try this: in your iTunes Library,
look for and click on the big + button and choose New Smart Playlist..., if you do not have the Sidebar displayed, switch to the Playlists view where you will find it in the bottom left corner,
Set it up to look like this:
It creates a list of songs that have not been played for fifteen weeks. It excludes videos and in my iTunes Library, it has 527 songs in it. If you would like a smaller list than that, click on the Limit to and fill in the number of songs you want.
Having set it up, play some songs from it (in shuffle mode if you wish) and watch how it changes . The song must play through to the end of the track before it is classed as "played". If you like it, let it go onto your iPod. You could set up a few Playlists, each with their own rules. Even if a song appears in two different Smart Playlists, if you have the "last played is not in the last" rule in both lists, then playing the song will eliminate it from both lists. None of this removes songs from the iPod (unless you use Sync selected Playlists...).
