Timesheet issues

What should I do to find out if or if not the timesheet is absolutely fine.
when i talk about the timesheets being absolutely fine or not, i am talking about the timesheets that we are not able to approve. I think that can be the only determiner to figure
out whether or not the timesheet is absolutely fine. what else?
So I was wondering if, a person, who does not know lots about Microsoft project server, project web application, project professional 2010 etc etc, can or cannot, easily take a look,
at the timesheet, and recognize if or if not, the time has been submitted correctly and there will not be a lot of error messages right after the user submits the time or right at the moment the timesheet is being approved
My concern is how do i find out what in a certain timesheet causes the issue.
what are the probable things that go wrong while entering the time or while submitting the time.
how to access the timesheet of others and recall it on their behalf in case they are not available due to some personal reasons.
Should the faulty timesheets be deleted.
If yes, who will create the new timesheet and who will determine how much time to enter in the timesheet and how a timesheet is created.
The summary of my question is - what is the procedure to delete a timesheet it and recreate it, we have to do this on behalf of someone else.

You can use delegation and create, fill, submit, recreate and recall.
If you have your server up to date with MS project server CU and your users have some basic idea about Timesheet you will not face issues. Though sometimes you can face some issues related to assignment UID and task UID as user fills actual for some task
or assignment and later point of time PM delete those task but User and filed actual against task then user can face some issue while submitting the timesheet or Pm can face issue while approving it.
Sometime user fill actual for different different task of  different different  project some of status manger approve it some doesnt because of this you will see timesheet waiting for approval or in sbumitted mode. In this case identifing
what is happening and why is bit tough for User as well as admin.
You can create some good report in either excel or SSRS which will help you to understand what is happening and where is happening.
You can Use delegation to see other timesheet you can delete, recreate and fill timesheet via delegation. once you done with all activity you can delete delegate session. You can do it for any user in Project server.

  • Timesheet Issues in PWA 2010

My company just upgraded from Project 2003 to Project 2010. In PWA 2003 timesheet view, we were able to see our summary tasks, as well as the Task IDs. I cannot find a way to display either in PWA 2010. I've read the above notes, and I have to believe that
there is some way to create a custom view or change the existing Timesheet View to allow the display of where each task is in the plan. I've tried creating a custom Timesheet View, using the "Timesheet" template, but that doesn't provide an option
to select either field (Summary task or Task ID).
Here's the deal: I have a project plan that has over 1,800 tasks, many of which repeat multiple times within each phase and across phases, and the resources are also repeating the work across the phases. This plan has up to NINE levels of tasks in various
places. So now, my resources see dozens of the same task name in their timesheet views with no context as to where each task falls in the plan.  The Task Hierarchy column is NOT a sufficient solution for my needs.
I would appreciate any and all help in figuring out how to display Summary Tasks and Task IDs in the Timesheet View.
    Thanks and happy planning!

I totally agree with your finding as above you mentioned It's possible in PWA 2003 but when it comes to PWA 2010 it is not available.
Many of my customer raised same issue for PWA 201o but unfortunately you can not see Summary task in the Timesheet view. Both you and your users have to live with this and accept the changes brought by MS.
The workaround of this problem is you can use group by first Project Name then "Task Hierarchy field".
As far as custom view is concerned see the
    link
I can also understand users raise voice and will not be happy to use it as they are habitual to use old functionality but many of the old features gets deprecated with the new version of several product.

  • Fiori My Timesheet - Apply Correction Notes - REALLY !

This thread is on a lighter note.
This morning I thought of applying the updates on the Backend components for timesheet app, and - what a mess I got myself into.
So as per release note - it says apply the following corrections
Additional Notes to be applied in the backend (on top of SRA002, SP05 )
2043375 - Fiori My Timesheet: Issue with WBS element

Implement the pre-requisite note 1993075, and then followed by a Manual Correction. Ok, no problem. Lets open 1993075. Voila, it says
This is a program error. Implement the pre-requisite notes 1974197, 1990036, 2006238 and then a manual correction.
Really, for one note - I will have to go thru all this. Fiori - You aren’t simple .
I haven't dared to look at the other 4 Parent Notes yet.
Is it just me or someone else has faced this roller coaster of implementing a fiori app?

    Pankaj
I already have SP03 for UI and SP05f for SRA. I just read the note#1931621, it mentioned to implement the above notes
Can you pls confirm if we need all these notes?

  • Timesheet Error with custom Line Classifications in Project Server 2013

We implemented Project Server 2013 last year and began using timesheets.  We are a billable consulting group.  In order manage our billing, we have created three custom line classifications, "Billable Onsite", "Billable Offsite",
and "Non-billable".  We do not use "Standard" as a line where time is entered.  We are using SEM.  We have chosen no prepopulation on timesheets.  Our system is updated through the March 2013 update.
The error we get is presented as "__error Loading" with the title bar of the pop-up reading "Message from webpage".  This occurs when you attempt to add a new line to a timesheet and choose one of the custom line classifications.
A confusing aspect to this, while we have prepopulation turned off, the timesheet is populated with "Standard" lines for the tasks that are currently assigned to the user.  We have come up with a workaround that works sometimes but not all the
time.  When the user receives this error, they move away from the timesheet screen and then return.  They add all of the applicable lines to the timesheet with "Standard" even if they already exist on the timesheet and save.  Then
they add the lines with the appropriate line classification and the time.  If they receive the "__error loading" error again, then the timesheet can not be corrected.  You must delete the timesheet and recreate.  We have been able
to recreate the problem in a vanilla install with a custom line classification added.
Just yesterday, I was able to find a error log entry that may help some of you identify the source:

We have not been able to find any similar timesheet issues here or on other boards.  Our users, as you can imagine, are getting increasingly frustrated.  A ny advice?
    Thanks,
    Nate

More scenario testing today. Tested with both "No Prepopulation" and populate assigned task options! no difference in our instance. We are only updated through March 2013, waiting for IT support. We have previously tried the deactivation/reactivation
of custom classifications. Tried with and without template, no difference. So the new scenario and findings:
    1. Create a project with 2 tasks, one assigned and one not. Save and publish.
    2. Create a timesheet, do not use an existing timesheet. Here we found, in spite of population option chosen, the timesheet was populated with a Standard line for the assigned task. With no action taken other than creating timesheet, the reporting assignment
    table showed the new entry.
    3. Add an assignment to the other task in the project, publish.
    4. Open the same timesheet period. Now I saw the other task appear on the screen. It did not show in the database. I could not save to make it appear in the database unless I did something else to the screen to make it "dirty". Once I did that,
I could save and the second Standard line appeared In the database.
If I tried to add a custom line class line to the TS when the Standard line was not in the database, I get the error. It doesn't matter if it shows on the screen.
If it shows on the screen but not in the db, and I attempt to add a non-standard line, it will error, unless I manually add the standard line first.  The user would not know to do this.
You will not be able to reproduce if you make the assignments and then create the TS. You need to try in reverse order.
It appears as though there are issues with both the timesheet population options and the code that runs when the TS loads after it's initial creation. I'm wondering why on creation the standard line is created and committed to the db, but on reload with
new tasks it doesn't' do the same. Also when No Prepopulation is turned on, why my time sheets are always prepopulated.
Sorry for any typos, working from my ipad keyboard. Thanks for your help!

  • Project Server 2013 timesheets not showing up for approval

We're using Project Server 2013 and entering timesheets. I'm a team manager who is set up as the timesheet approver for a few people, including Nicole.
Nicole opens her timesheet and fills it in for the week.  She applies time to four Administrative tasks and two project tasks.
Nicole submits her final timesheet for approval.  (We have also tried having her save it first, then to the final submission, with the same results.)
I go to my approval screen and see the four Administrative tasks listed as separate lines.  I do not see the project tasks.
I select the four Administrative tasks and approve them.  They disappear when the screen is submitted.
In previous weeks, and with some other employees, I would immediately see a single line item that said "My Timesheet" for Nicole which I could then approve.  But recently this stopped, and I do not see her timesheet.
If Nicole checks the status of the timesheet it says it's submitted to me.
On my Approval page if I go to History, Timesheets this timesheet is not listed under "approved by me" nor is it under "my resources unsubmitted timesheets."  It's in limbo.
The only fix is for Nicole to recall the timesheet and resubmit it.  Then it shows up on my Approval page.
    Any suggestions?

We resolved this. The solution was as follows:
Go to PWA Settings, and under Security choose Manage Groups.
    Click the Team Members group.
Scroll to the Categories section, and in the Selected Categories area highlight (select)
    My Tasks.
Click the box to allow the permission called Adjust Timesheet which is under the grouping for Resource.
Now don't ask me how or why that works.  It's not a setting that intuitively matches what's going on.  But it fixed it for us.
By the way, we had a number of other timesheet issues (view failures, etc.) that were all cleared up when we installed the April 2014 Cumulative Update for Project Server 2013, as well as SharePoint 2013 SP1.  I highly recommend both.

  • End User - ESS Timesheet Display Issue

    Hi All,
Hopefully I have posted this in the correct forum. I tried to search of the issue I have for an end user but had no success, so I thought since my post graduate study surrounds ERP systems and work with SAP every day, I though it was best to register.
Now the issue I have here is, when the user goes into their portal ESS to view their timesheets, the display is unsual. They do not have an option to manually go back to previous weeks and the view of their timesheet is 'squashed' in (Timesheet Entry View) but if you scroll across to the right where the date and 'go to' function is, it has been cut off. There are no issues with any other users so it appears to be a local issue
Currently, I have reverted back to IE7, checked for any add on's that may cause display issues, I have checked their roles and everything is normal. The only issue I can see is some conflicting issues is with the Browser and SAP.
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Edited by: A_Ali_ on Jul 19, 2011 1:05 AM

Check the configuration setting for the profile that's being used by ESS. As this is where you can restrict user's ability to navigate forward and back from current week etc.

This is due to Load balancing , as when we undo the load balancing there are no issue with timesheet updates .anyone has any idea ????Regards

    Hi Priyanshu,
Did you solved the load balancing issue ? We are interested by your answer, we are on the verge to implement Project Server (2013) on a load balancing SharePoint Farm, and we wonder if it is supported (we found no document to prove it, esp for reporting
or timesheet). We have heard rumours that says it does not work on reporting.

  • Project Server 2010 - Issue with correct recording of timesheet actual hours with decimals

We have Project Server 2010 and are using the timesheet functionality for recording resource times/costs in the schedules.
It has come to light only recently, that for one user, suddenly the times she is entering are not being summed up correctly. An image of her timesheet and the manage timesheet screens are shown below. Note she entered 9.5 hrs but the total that
appears in the manage timesheet screen is 9.514hrs.
If you look at the history of the previous weeks as well, the weird change toi the total hours has occurred in the previous 4 weeks as well.  I have no idea why this has started happening and am not aware of any change to the resource's details (apart
from a change to her hourly rate).
    Has anyone experienced this before?
    Thanks
    Peter

We have this issue and are past the patch that discussed decimal rounding (April 2014, though it was more related to the application of resource rates).  This seems different from that noted rounding problem.
We have at least three users (out of 625) that have this problem every week and it isn't always the same users.  If we re-enter the time and zero fill the cells for the problem task it will fix it.
It is almost like when a user deletes a value that it is leaving residual numbers in the field.
Our 2010 server version below which is through Sept 2014 CU:
    14.0.7132.5000
Any help on this would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

  • Timesheet and project server issue

    Hi there,
For my timesheet in PWA 2013, Team members can fill out timesheets for project work. However, the progress they submit could not be updated in the Project server? For instance, in the timesheet, task A has been done 20 hours. I filled in the timesheet for
this task and submit. Also, it has been approved. However, the task from the project server still show me 0 hours on "Actual work".
    Any help is appreciated! Thanks!
    cc

    Hi SillyBird,
So I guess we found what was not going as expected in your case. First of all, some documentation for you to read. The second link shows you the SEM process
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/project/archive/2009/11/23/time-tracking-in-project-server-2010.aspx
    http://khurramjamshed.blogspot.ca/2011/02/project-server-task-and-timesheet.html
In the SEM process, there are 2 APPROVALS:
first the timesheet manager approves the timesheet (ie time on project and administrative time)
then (the sequencing can be forced by an option in the timesheet configuration in server settings) the status manager approves only the task updates
Finally the project manager (that is usually the status manager) opens the project plan that contains the approved actuals, updates the remaining work, publishes and closes the project plan for the team members to have in PWA the new/updated assignments.
Now some links about the status manager:
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/project-help/change-the-manager-of-an-enterprise-project-HA010113077.aspx
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/project-help/status-manager-task-field-HA010167477.aspx
Basically the status manager will be the task update approver, meaning the one that will receive in the approval center the task updates for approval. He is by default the user that created the project plan, meaning probably the project manager (but can
be a PMO officer). The status manager can only be changed in MS Project Pro (in case the project initiator is not the PM), inserting the "status manager" column.
Be aware that it has to be changed by the user that wants to be status manager himself. It cannot be done by a third person (such as an admin) due to the fact that the status manager column in MS Project Pro proposes a list of only 2 users : the active user
(that currently edits the project) and the current status manager.
Note also that when you change the status manager value in Project Pro, it has to be done for every task (easily doable by draging the value from the first to the last cell, like in Excel). Then new tasks will have the new status manager.
    Hope this helps.

  • Approve Timesheet UI5 issue

    Hi
We are on HR Renewal 1.0 FP4 and we noticed that in Approve Timesheet UI5 application , notes which have been entered by employee is not appearing for the approver.
    Regards,
    Purav

Thanks Siddharth. You you are correct that , data on the right side of the UI5 screenshot, is picked up from the configuration "Define Field Selection for Individual Approval View". It works fine for WDA app as well when we go to Individual approval view.
However it seems configuration "Define Field Selection for Detail View" does not apply for UI5 Approve timehseet. ?? It works for WDA app where in we have link on hours field to navigate to details view where note appears. however we do not have any such link on UI5 screen (Right side) from where we can go to detail view .
Please note with the same configuration , we are able to see the "Additional Note " field in WDA Detail view but not in UI5 Approve timesheet.

  • Project Server 2010 TimeSheet line classification sorting order- Issue

    Hi,
We have PS 2010 SP-2 environment , and having few time sheet custom line classifications in order to sort them I have prefixed my custom time-sheet line with numbers like 100, 110, 115 and it is perfectly sorted in Line Classification settings under server
    settings, please see below.
But strangely when a user creates time sheet and click insert new row then "Add an existing task" modal dialogue box shows "Standard" OOTB line classifcation on top and all custom line classifications underneath it.
    Please check below
Don't know why it is not considering sorting order defined under "Line Classifications" settings. Same configuartion used to  work fine in PS-2007. But dont know why its not working in 2010.
May be some silly configuration I am missing or something serious here, seriously not able to make out why this is happening.
Please let me know, Thanks much !!!
    Sachin Vashishth MCTS

    Hey Thanks Guillaume,
That's what I want to confirm in context of 2010. Because same configuration used to work in our 2007 environment. So want to confirm its default behavior or I have missed something in configuration.
Any other idea do you have, like putting some java-script code in modal dialogue box to get this sorting done or any other customization.
As of now considering "javascript" but need some pointers to get start working on this.
    Thanks much !!!

  • Error while creating a Timesheet - Project Server 2013

    Hi everyone,
One of user of PWA encounters an issue when he tries to create a timesheet. This error only occurs with a timesheet of
a specific period, he can create all the other timesheet.
So, when he creates the timesheet, this error occurs : "The timesheet creation failed, because of problems with Project Web App or with data validations"
After reloaded the list of the timesheets, a link to go to the specific timesheet
is available but if we click on it, we have this error :
"View Failue - The view failed to load"
I think , this error occurs
because the timesheet is not realy existing even if we have a link to it.
In the log (full log at the end), I've got this error :
Exception occured in method 'TimeSheet.CreateTimesheet' System.ArgumentException: These columns don't currently have unique values.
I've found this link with the same kind of problem :
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/projectserver/en-US/b0a92afc-11fc-40ef-9a44-357d953b31f6/unable-to-open-or-create-timesheets-these-columns-dont-currently-have-unique-values?forum=projectserver2010general but I've checked and published all the
user project but still have the error.
Have you got any idea where are these columns ? How can I found them without checked every project of PWA ?
    Thanks,
    Patmol

    Hi Patmol,
Have you tried to go to the previous or next timesheet and then navigate with the "previous period" or "next period" to the timesheet in question.
Also have you tried to open it using a delegation session?
    Hope this helps,
