Timestamps 2-port NI CAN Card

Hi,
can anyone tell me weather the timestamps of the CAN messages received at 2 ports in a PXI-8461-2 port-Series2-high speed Card
be compared?
I have 2 applications, each using a separate CAN port connected to netwroks with different baudrates.
I am logging the frames to different files. Can i correlate the frames offline based on thier time stamps?
do the 2-port CAN Card share the same clock to add the timestamp to each CAN message at each port?
if not, are the 2 clocks synchronized so that the time stamps can be compared?

Hi Share_Good,
There is one clock on the CAN card, but the timestamp could be implemented differently (seconds from start of program, etc). I'll look into this and I'll let you know what I find.

  • Can we simulate PCI CAN card ?

    Hi All,
As i know we can simulate DAQ card through MAX . Similarly is it possible to simulate any NI card ?
    If yes then how ?
What is the use of virtual CAN port ? When can we use those virtual port of CAN card ?
Kindly reply as soon as possible.

  • Can I tristate a com port in 8423 card?

    Hi all
Am using 2 PXI 8186 to send commands to some COM based devices through a single RS485, 4 wire bus, but it is not possible to send commands to the device from both the PXI's. Only if one PXI is switched off the other PXI is able to send commands, i belive this is happening because both the PXI's are trying to take control of the bus. I wanted to know if there is a way in which i can tristate one of the PXI's com port so that other PXI can send the commands on the bus.
    Thanx for the reply
    Arun

    Hi Emilie
I have two 1031 PXI chassis, both the chassis have two 8423 cards (with four RS485 ports) and a PXI 8186. both the PXI have to comunicate with COM devices. the block diagram is attached along with this mail. my problem is if both the PXI's are switched on they don't communicate with the devices, only one of them can take control of the bus ata time, so i wanted to know if there is away in which i can place the com ports in 8423 cards in tristate.
    Thanx for the reply
    regards

  • I have configuration file for VECTOR CAN and want to port to NI CAN card

    Hello,
I have CAN analyzer with for Vecror CAN card. Now I want to use the NI CAN analyzer for the same application. What are all teh files that can be compatible with NI CAN card. I have .dbc
    .asc
.ccp files with me, please suggest on having the same with NI CAN card.

    laxmi,
The NI-CAN Channel API (available on PCI, PXI, PCMCIA interfaces), can directly import and allow you read/write data with channels defined in .DBC files. .DBC is somewhat of a de-facto standard in the industry. You can play around with this functionality without the CAN interface, simply download and install the NI-CAN driver software (http://joule.ni.com/nidu/cds/fn/p/sn/n23:3239/lang/en) and you can import the DBC files into the Data Neighborhood branch in Measurement and Automation Explorer.
.CCP is used with CAN Calibration Protocol and supported in our ECU Measurement and Automation toolkit.  This is a separate toolkit available for use with NI CAN interfaces (including USB).

I am using SURPLUSMETER I am also using Apple Airport Time Capsule as my Router that is connected to my Satellite dish Internet Modem ... Now on the Surplusmeter I have the option for PPP Modem . Ethernet Port , Airport , Network Card , & Adaptor .
Which one can I use properly to monitor all the wireless Devices in my hous

Actually, none of the options will do what you are looking for it to do. That is because, this application only monitors the traffic from the device it is hosted on. That would also mean that you would have to run a copy on each computer that will access the Internet on your network; note their individual usages, and then, combine them to get an idea of the total usage.
However, if you are only interested in the amount of Wi-Fi traffic that only your computer is seeing, then the "AirPort Network Card" option would be the correct choice.

  • What is ths maximum PDO read buffer size using the Series 2 CAN cards?

Does anyone know the maximum size for the PDO read buffer when using a Series 2 PCI NI-CAN card?

    Hi
The maximum size for a single PDO does not depent on the series of your board it is depending on what else you are doing with the CANopen Library.
The board uses a specific shared memory to transfer messages between driver and hardware. The size of this memory fits nearly 350 messages.
The CANopen Config takes 100 messages for different services like NMT. That means the maximum size for a single PDO would be approx. 250 messages.
Or for 5 different PDOs 50 each. But normaly you can leave the buffer size to zero, thus the PDO Read would allways read the newest data.
This calculation is true for the board. That means you have 350 messages per board and 2 ports whould need to share the memory.

  • USB ports and memory card slots not working

My Pavilion a6120n desktop has worked brilliantly ever since I purchased it. As of last week the 2 usb ports in the front and the 2 unused usb ports in the back have stopped working. My printer is plugged into one rear port and my wireless mouse is plugged into a second rear port and these work fine.  I generally use a memory stick for data swapping or the card reader slots (which have also stopped working). I no longer see the memory card icons in the "Computer" window. When installing something new the "New Hardware Found" statement pops up but the driver install always fails. I think it is a software issue but there are no usb drivers to download on the HP/support site that I can find. . . so . . . Below is what I have tried so far.Run antivirus software. Full scan & memory scan - no issuesRun malewarebytes full scan - no issues I have tried restarting several times with no success. Restore to several previous restore points = failedRestarting computer in repair mode = failedRun the repair disk that I had made = failedChecked the power management for each usb port to see if the power was routed properly = okRemoved the case cover and carefully inspected the wiring and connectors.finally I tried uninstalling the usb drivers = failed  Upon restarting the computer the last time the startup file must have failed and after several hours of attempting a repair I had to reinstall the Window 7 completely. Still no usb or memory card function. Any help would be appreciated Thanks,MrBob38

  • My USB ports and SD card slot aren't working!

My USB ports and SD card slot haven't been working on my MacBook Pro for a couple of months now, and I have taken it into Future shop to get it fixed under my warranty. Unfortunately my warranty was expired by a month (Oops), and the associate helping me said that there was no power getting to the ports because it had something to do with the circuit board, and that it would cost $900.00 to get it repaired. I can still charge my MacBook, and the CD hardrive works completely fine.
My goal is get my MacBook repaired for little or no cost. I was wondering if anyone knows a solution to this, or how much it would cost me to get it repaired at the Apple store.

What version of OS X is the Macbook Pro running?
In OS 10.8, you can do this:
With the iPod connected, go to Apple Menu / About This Mac / More Info / System Report.
click on USB under Hardware (in the left column).
Does the iPod appear anywhere on the right hand side (USB Device Tree)?

  • NI LS CAN Card with SJA1000

    Hi,
I am using PCMCIA Series 2 Low Speed CAN Card with SJA1000 transceiver to communicate with an ECU having a transceiver MCP2551.
But when I try communicating with the ECU using CAN Api's in LabVIEW it says there is transceiver error.
    What could be the problem..??
    I am cluleess..
I am using NI CAN 2.5.2 and LabVIEW 8.5
I have verified that ECU is sending CAN messages, But I am unable to read it through LabVIEW.
    Help!!..
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Smitha,
First, we need to straighten up some terminology: the SJA1000 is the CAN controller, not the transceiver.  The Low Speed CAN Interface uses a TJA1054A transceiver. The controller handles the transmission and reception of messages; the transceiver operates at the bit level, shifting the digital signal levels to/from the SJA1000 to the higher voltage levelsfound on the CAN bus, among other things.  A quick googling reveals that your MCP2551 transceiver is actually a High-Speed CAN transceiver, not a Low-Speed CAN transceiver.
The low-speed CAN interface will not work with this ECU as it uses different termination, hence the trasnceiver error.
Fortunately, you can change the transceiver on the PCMCIA-CAN interface.  The transceiver is located in the little black box at the end of the dongle, and you can change these dongles for the correct high-speed CAN interface.  You can obtain those dongles here. You'll need the HS/HS variety (or a HS/LS if you have other low-speed devices you want to use on the other port).

  • Synchronization of two CAN-cards via RTSI?

    Hello!
We have two CAN-cards of the type "NI PCI-CAN/XS2, 2-PORT". We have made a program for one card and now we putted the other card into the computer. Then we connected theese via a RTSI-bus. Is there something one has to complement with to get synchronization via the RTSI-bus? Because the program does not work now after we putted the other card and the RTSI in. Any idea?
    Best regards and thank you.

    Hello Ex-jobb
The synchronization examples for the Frame API are somewhat advanced but don't cover the basic grounds. Basically, they allow you generate/receive an event based trigger pulse. A generally easier approach is the sharing of a clock signal, however this is only supported through the relatively new ncConnectTerminals and ncDisconnectTerminals VIs, for which there are no examples existing yet. Their functionality is very similar to the nctConnectTerminals and nctDisconnectTerminals Vis of the Channel API that why I referenced them (as an example to see how they are used).
Like I said in the other thread, it would be easier to judge what synchronization options work best for your application, I you could describe the desired behavior of your application in a few words.

  • Can we simulate CAN card in MAX

    Hi
We can simulate DAQ cards in MAX.But can we simulate CAN card in MAX ?????
I am using PCI CAN series-2 card.
    Please reply

No posting of code is needed, open the Help >> Example Finder.
Search for the example CAN Receive.vi, and Transmit Receive same Port.vi.  Before running the CAN Receive.vi set the interface to CAN257, then run it.  Then in the Transmit Receive same Port.vi set the interface to CAN256 and then run it.  Now when you click Write it will send a frame out on CAN256.  CAN256 and CAN257 are virtual loop back ports.  What is sent on one is received on the other.  So you should see the frame you wrote appear in the CAN Receive.vi which is monitoring 257.
Using this technique you can write code that monitors one of these ports, then reacts sending simulated data when requested, or set it up to just periodically send the data you want.

  • Use of Digium 24-port FXO analog cards for FreePBX system

Does anyone have experience with the installation of Digium 1AEX2400 Series cards in a FreePBX distro? I am researching a new system and want to see if anyone has successfully used this hardware before, and if there was any trouble installing the hardware that I should know about. It would probably be installed in a Dell R310 1U server.
I have used 8-port Digium FXO cards for many years now. And yet I find very little on discussion groups for either the 8-port cards or their 24-port equivalent.
    Any information would be helpful.

Right now I can get a 570 for 175 bucks... R4yMoNd. When I look at the 570 in comparison  to what I have it doesnt look as though itis going to make too much difference. http://www.hwcompare.com/9048/geforce-gtx-570-vs-radeon-hd-5870/ I'm sure however the CUDA cores will speed it right up. I'm no good when it comes to all that so thanks to both you for the help. I have tracked down a 670 in stock (seems tough) for $440 then I need a 700 w power supply for about 70. If the 570 should take care of the problems listed above thats what I'm going for.. Just wasnt sure if it would make the needed difference

  • Problem with multiple NI-CAN Card

Hi all, I have an application where I need 4 different CAN buses. To achive that I already put 2 NI-CAN cards Series 2 with 2 ports each. On my applicantion I configured each single port individually and comunicate with each bus, but for some reason (I dont know why) one or two of the ports lost comunication, not always is the same port, it is randomly. I dont know If the NI-CAN driver has any limitation or what I am doing wrong. I can not see the ligth at the end of the tunnel. Any help will be welcome.
    Thanks
    Alfredo
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi Larry,
Those are PCI cards and the CAN driver is the 2.7.2. I think I found the problem. I am used to use only one CAN port and the configuration subVI I made for that (a long time ago) has as input the Port name and the Baudrate and has as output the PortHandler, but it include also a RESET command (disscontinued on the new versions) inside.
The problem was because I configure each port with that subVI in a Secuence structure and I think one of the ports lose the config because of the Reset and assign the same PortHandler to both ports on one card.
I use a newest subVI I made recently where I configure any of the ports and any CAN card I have (NI or Vector), this new VI don't have the old RESET VI and it works great!!
Thanks any way for you interest and prompt reaction.

  • How do I get my PCI-CAN card to work in my Dell computer?

I am trying to get a PCI-CAN card working in a Dell GX110 computer. The computer quits right after the initial Dell spalsh screen goes away. After that point, I only get a flashing cursor in the top left corner. NI support suggested a bios upgrade, but the computer is already at the latest bios rev. When I remove the card, the computer boots fine. What do I try next?
    Lars

The problem may be related to a specific chip ( MITE) on the PCI CAN card. Please call us at 512-795-8248 with the part no and the serial of the PCI CAN card, so that we can verify whether the CAN card may have a hardware problem and have you send the card back to us for repair or to get a replacement.
