Timezone abbreviation meanings and other timezone info

Hi All,
I'm working as an Enterprise Architect for a multinational with multiple breeds of database all over the place.
I'm trying to ensure that the entire organisation is using the same (correct) timezone definitions and I need some confirmation and have some questions around oracles implmentation. Apologies if I'm missing the blindingly obvious....
As I understand it, Oracle lists the timezones either in file timezonelrg.dat or timezone.dat these are machine-readable contains information on timezone and abbreviation that users can see via V$TIMEZONE_NAMES. The information is based on Olson's zoneinfo.
There are often multiple abbreviations for a timezone, these refer to daylight saving and other adjustments that can be applied to that timezone area.
Timezone.dat also has offset information connected with the timezones and abbreviations. This is used for automatic daylight saving. It can only be accessed using a function.
Is this correct?
If so....Where do I find a list of the abbreviations, their meanings and the offsets (the Oracle Database Globalisation Support guide only lists 6 meanings, there are lots more)?
Is there a place that I can find a complete human-readable version of the zoneinfo database?
Thanks for your help in advance.
Cheers
Paul

You can obtain a list of time zone names and time zone abbreviations from the time zone file that is installed with your database by entering the following statement:
SELECT tzname, tzabbrev FROM v$timezone_names;
(Ref: http://www.stanford.edu/dept/itss/docs/oracle/10g/server.101/b10749/ch4datetime.htm)
However, a slightly bigger list can also be found at

  • Show Model, OS and Other Details Info in Reply window for Originator

When posting a reply in a thread it would be helpful if the Model, OS and Other Details information for the person we are replying to be shown in that window. Right now we have to toggle back to the thread window to check on their information.
    Thanks,

    Kady,
Thanks for going around and noting people's suggestions. It helps a lot and I personally and most likely everyone else here appreciate all you do for the discussions, along with the other hosts and sysops

  • Export photos retaining date. time and other EXIF info

When I export photos to folders outside of IPhoto (so that these duplicates can be opened by folks who may not have Macs). I lose the time, date and camera information. How do I export JPGs that retain this info?

If you simply select the photos in iPhoto and export them (file menu ==> export) as JPEGs they will have that information in the EXIF fields within the JPEG - you can not see the EXIF data using the finder - you need a program like Preview or EXIF viewer - http://homepage.mac.com/aozer/EV/ - to view the EXIF data

  • How can I set Safari 7.0.3 NOT to save logins and other website info

After using Firefox for a very long time, am trying to use Safari pretty exclusively.  I would like to know how to set it to NOT keep any passwords, logons, etc., and have looked in prefs and don't see a way to do that. Surely Apple has that in Safari???  When I return to a website I logged into the day before, it automatically logs me in, and I do NOT like that.
    Thanks.

From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Passwords tab.
Deselect:  Autofill user names and passwords
Then hold down the Shift key and select all Websites llisted then click Remove All.
To avoid autofill on sites, open Keychain Access located in Applications > Utilities
    Select Passwords on the left.
Type in the name of a website that autofills.
Then right or control click that keychain then click Delete.
    Ditto for others.

  • PCF file missing hostname and other information

Using Cisco VPN Client 4.8.01.0300, several users have reported issues with being unable to launch the VPN Client software. The client returns Error 5 - Hostname not available; upon reviewing the .PCF file, the hostname and other group info is now missing; an import of a valid .PCF file resolves the problem. I've seen variations of this issue discussed on this board, but no solution to the underlying problem - something corrupts the .PCF file.

i think the problem is because of cisco bug CSCsa74320

  • Logging just exceptions and 'critical' TopLink info to the log

I'm trying to just log exceptions and other 'critical' info that occur within TopLink to the log rather than getting lots of SQL statements, unit of work info etc.
I'm running TopLink 9.0.3.5 in WebLogic Server 7.0 (SP4) using container managed persistence for Entity Beans.
If I startup WebLogic with the toplink.log.level=INFO option then I get SQL statements, unit of work info, JTS registration info as well as any exceptions that are logged.
If I leave the logging like this my WebLogic log will likely be huge and performance degraded from writing a lot of info that will never be used.
If I startup WebLogic with the toplink.log.level=NONE option then I don't get any log statements, not even exception info (although obviously clients still get the exception stack). I need to get the exceptions and 'critical' TopLink info in the WebLogic log because I cannot rely on getting the information from client logs.
In the TopLink for WebLogic 2.5.1 product the default logging behaviour was to log only exceptions and other 'critical' info to the log.
Is there a way to configure TopLink 9.0.3 so that only exceptions and any other 'critical' TopLink information is written to the log (and SQL statements, unit of work info and JTS registration info is not written).
    Thanks.

You don't mention which version of 10g you have but there is a bug in all versions 10.1.2.0.2 and newer in that usernames are no longer being inserted in the Apache log files when portal pages are viewed. It was somewhat hit or miss before, but good enough to get a feeling of what was being used Now, it does not even provide that. Bug number reference from Metalink is 5638057. It is shown as "Closed -- not feasible to fix", but will be addressed in 11.0
I am experimenting with getting this data a couple of ways. One, if you happen to use WebTrends, you can manually set the authenticated users field to whatever you'd like so I am using the API's to retrieve the username and the user company (organization) and concatenating them together.
The other option I am considering is a procedure call in the footer of each page that automatically updates a new table with the session id, username, page, timestamp, and whatever other information you may want each time the page is visited. This table can then be dumped to a data file if desired or left in the database and analyzed using a tool like Discoverer.

  • Others viewing info on iTunes

Hi my friend and I share a iTunes account he has a iPod and I just got the iPhone so he just added me onto his account. No, just means you have automatic downloads turned on: Settings>Store>Automatic Downloads.

i had to replace my i4s phone with another one from the apple store. i need to download all my contact info and other stuff from the cloud to my new phone.i see a screen that says  RESTORE I PHONE   and are you sure you want to restore the iphone to its facory settings?  all of your media and other data will be erased. they i tunes will verify restore with apple. After this you will have the option to restore your contacts and other settins.  The question is will it restore my first phones info?  I am hesitant to delete anything  lol.

No. If you made your backup to iCloud, iTunes will not restore from an iCloud backup. See:

  • Lost photos and other info

Hi after changing the background on my ibook and accounts i have lost all my photos in iphoto and other info like firefox bookmarks and addons ect.
Two questions... Why has this happened? and more importantly how do i get the data back?
    Any help will be appreciated

It's also comforting to back-up your computer. Normally, you would write your photos to optical media; then just insert these when needed. I keep my KeyChain, Bookmarks, &c on a CD. Nothing else I have is really important.
However, the G3 won't write optical media, or DVDs at least. I use an old iPod as a backup disk for the G3 iBooks here, but you might be able to write CDs (I can't remember).
In any case, everyone should probably look into backup devices, media, & strategies.

  • How do I see the dates and info on gift card redeemal, purchases and other transctions?

I need to see how much was the gift card amount I originally redeemed.
How do I see the dates and info on gift card redeemal, purchases and other transactions?

You can't see when gift cards were redeemed onto your account, nor what you bought with it - you can only see your entire purchase history via the Store > View Account menu option on your computer's iTunes, it won't show what payment method method was used for each item : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2727

  • Bought 10 gb Uploaded Iphone and IPad2, left with 2gb space.  How to view pictures and other info in ICloud?

Bought 10 gb Uploaded Iphone and IPad2, left with 2gb space.  How to view pictures and other info in ICloud?  Can I upload documents from my desktop (Windows os)?
    Thanks.

If you backed up your iphone to icloud, then there's a chance that doing a restore might bring back your photos.  I say "chance" because many users have tried that (assuming they had photos turned in for backups in settings), but ended up not getting back any photos.  If that happens, then they are gone.
Remember, you should have been syncing photos all along to a computer for archiving.  Don't trust the pictures to an icloud backup.
