Timezone difference in grid control

Hi
Grid control 11g.
When I navigate database home page, it shows: Up since: 14-Feb-2012 09:30:12 c'clock EST
However, when I check page refreshed valuel on the top right, it shows: Page refreshed 14-Feb-2012 02:34:33 GMT
I would have expected it to only show one time zone. How can I change the time zone of "Page refreshed value" in grid control ?
I`ve also tried setting TZ before the oms startup, however this doesnt change the "Page Refreshed" timezone on database home page. (still shows GMT)
i.e
export TZ=Australia/Sydney
emctl start oms

  • Differences Between Grid Control and Application Server Console

    Hi,
I have come across a situation where a customer has an OC4J container and has deplyed several applications in this container. When they access Application Server Control Console thay can stop and start these applications individually.
However, the customer cannot monitor the status/state of these applications from withing Grid Control. We can see that the OC4J container is either up or down and will be alerted for the change of status. However, if a single application within the container is down they will not be alerted.
We are using GC 10.2.0.5, iAS 10.1.2.2. Is there a way around this, or dies the Application Server Console have a little extra functionalitly in it compared to Grid Control?
    Tim.

    Hi,
On your grid control, create a new Notification rule and select "Web Application" from the target drop down and then select your application then in availability tab, select up and down for which you want to receive notification.

  • Difference between data control and grid control

    Hello, All:
When I installed my 10g database, the OEM data control was also installed, I can use it to manage my database perfectly. now I see there is a seperate product for OEM grid control that need to be installed from different CD, Can someone tell me what's the difference between this Data Control and Grid Control?
    Thanks in advance

DBconrtrol is for monitor only one database but from Enter prise manager Grid Control you can monitor and manage all the database in your enterprise basically

  • Differences between EM Database Control and Grid Control/Cloud Control

    Hi everybody,
just a short question: To show my colleagues and my boss, which one is the better one I would like to have a view about what the differences between Database Control and Cloud Control Versions of EM are and which functions would like the monitoring work more comfortable for us DBA's. Does anybody know a link or document for that?
    Thanks a lot!
    Regards,
    David

Is this the own advantage of between Cloud Control and DB Control, that Cloud Control can monitor more than one instance?Someone that are using Grid control will tell you that it is a great avantage.
We've just one database instance. But I've read about SNMP functions, that are only supported in Cloud Control. Are there more advantages?if you only have one database instance, Enterprise Manager is your best way at this moment.
At some time, for example when 12g arrives, will Cloud Control be the standard installation?for the moment...nobody knows what is coming with 12c database...

  • Whats the functional difference between dbconole and using the Grid control.

I know this may seem like a strange question, but I was wondering if I only have one instance on my server, would benefit would i gain if I installed and configured the grid control
over the dbconsole that comes with the 11gr2?
I know the Grid control can discover many databases, but what else can it do that the dbconsole cannot?
    thanks!

    Hi,
    Indeed good question.
It depends on installation type you selected. But are responsible for user administration in terms of creating, deleting, updating and role assignment tasks to users and groups.
--CUA is meant for ABAP Installation. CUA is responsible for entire landscape user administration works with RFC connection talking to all ABAP systems
--UME is meant for Java installations, plus UME is responsible for handling communication between ABAP users and java users.
    UME

  • Scheduling an Export Job Using Grid Control

    Hi,
I got a requirement to schedule export jobs in Oracle Grid Control 10.2.0.5 (Windows). Is this possible and have any one done this? If so please share the steps. The idea is to get alerts if the job fails.
    Thanks.
    GB

Here is the easy steps (There might be slight differences as I am posting it based on 11g screen)
    1. On grid control console, click on the relevant database
    2. click on 'Data Movement' tab
    3. Click on 'Export to Export Files'
    4. chose the Export type (Database / Schema / Tables/ Tablespace)
    5. Provide Host credentials (OS username and Password) and click on 'Continue'. You will get a new screen called 'Export: Options'
    6. Click the checkbox called 'Generate Log File' and select the Directory object where you wants to create the dump files. (You need to create a directory object in database, if you don't have one)
    7. Chose the contents option as you required, and click '*Next*'. You will get a new page called 'Export: Files'
    8. Select the directory object from the drop-down box and provide a name format for file name, and click 'Next'
    9. Here you provide the Job name and description, and chose repeat options (daily, weekly etc), and click 'Next'
    10. You will get a summary screen called 'Export: Schedule'. review your job details and click on 'Submit'.
This is the solution, and it works well.

  • Error in OMS configuration when Installing 10g Grid Control

    Hi All,
I am installing Enterprise manager Grid control 10g for Rac. This is failing on OMS configuration.I check log file and found following error under OracleHomes/oms10g/sysman/log/emca_repos_drop12_29_46:
Could not connect to SYS/(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS_LIST=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=bomlsr01)(PORT=1541)))(CONNECT_DATA=(SID=APPSUPG))): ORA-12505: TNS:listener does not currently know of SID given in connect descriptor (DBD ERROR: OCIServerAttach)
As I am installing this on RAC I passed service name (DB name) value not SID.
Could anyone please tell where I am doing wrong?
    Thanks
    Sanjeev

OK, but when looking at the error message
    Could not connect to SYS/(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS_LIST=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=bomlsr01)(PORT=1541)))
(CONNECT_DATA=(SID=APPSUPG))): ORA-12505: TNS:listener does not currently know of SID given in connect descriptor
    (DBD ERROR: OCIServerAttach)
and comparing it with the result of the tnsping
    (DESCRIPTION= (ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=bomlsr01.firstassist.org.uk)(PORT=1541)) (CONNECT_DATA= (SERVICE_NAME=APPSUPG)
    (INSTANCE_NAME=RAC1)))
    I see two differences:
    => SID=APPSUPG / SERVICE_NAME=APPSUPG
    => HOST=bomlsr01 / HOST=bomlsr01.firstassist.org.uk
The harder part now is to figure out what needs to be done to fix your issue. I would suggest to take a look at the documentation (installing
    GC on RAC)

  • Install grid control agent 10.2.0.5 on VM Server?

    Hi:
I'm using Enterprise Manager Grid Control 10.2.0.5 with the Virtual Server extensions and it is working fine. However, I've noticed that my Virtual Server machine (dom0 -- not the guests) does not show as a host on my Targets tab.
One drawback to this is that I've tried to import the templates that already exist in my Seed Pool into the Software Components tab of my Virtual Servers tab. It has an option to find a Host, but the only hosts lists are those that have Grid Control agents on them.
    Is this expected behavior?
Would it be beneficial to install the Grid Control 10.2.0.5 agent on my VM Server 2.1.5 so that I can load the templates into the Software Components tab?

    pasinc wrote:
Thanks. I do have all of the Templates under Resources in my Virtual Server Pool. However, none of them appear under the Software Components tab. Should they? Not necessarily.
If not, what is the difference between the two? Why don't they appear as Software Components?Software Components = stored in the Grid Control Software Library
Server Pool Resources = stored in the Server Pool's /OVS/seed_pool
So, the Software Components shows you templates that have been stored in Grid Control and these templates can be deployed to any of your server pools (you can have multiple server pools). Once this happens, you'll see the template in both locations. It's a little counter-intuitive, I admit. If you're used to VM Manager, then the Server Pool Resources is the same as what you'd see in VM Manager. Then Grid Control adds the central Software Components option as well.
    Does that make sense?

As curious as I always am, I was able to discover my XE database from the GC 10.1.0.4 last month. I did this because I asked myself the same question. When there is time, I normally will try everything that says "Not supported" or "Not compartible" to prove it right or wrong. So give it a go, but don't post errors from it here :-). I have not tried it for GC 10.2.0.2, but it worked on 10.1.0.4 (hopefully 10.1.0.3).
Remember, XE has all the features of EE, but a cutdown version. It has an Oracle Service and a Listener on a port, so the agent will pick them up. I have tried all possible things and tools (Forms, Reports, Designer Repository, Jdeveloper, SQL Developer, ODBC, JDBC etc) on XE to break it, but it works like EE. The only difference is when you hit the max allowed 4GB (excluding 1GB system) and I proved the limit right by kicking of a data load into a table using a cursor until it hit the maximum 4GB limit error.

  • Oracle Enterprise Manager Database Control VS Grid Control

What is difference of Oracle Enterprise Manager Database Control and Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control?
How I can install it manually?
    Thanks

What is difference of Oracle Enterprise Manager Database Control and Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control?
How I can install it manually?Dbcontrol is for single database as Grid control is for multiple databases.Dbcontrol has limited features than Grid control that goes beyond database administration to monitor other targets that include Operating system and application servers, web application, High availability (data guard) configurations. Database control comes with oracle server license but Grid control is a separate product it required separate license. If you want to use basic features then you can turn off the licensed packs in Grid control and use free product.
    Install Grid Control as doc:http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B16240_01/doc/em.102/e10953/installing_em.htm

  • EM Grid Control - Licensing

    Hello,
I've read the licensing and understand that the grid control/repository is free. What I did not find is how one can use this.
In example, if I have several clients who have production database. Can I setup a grid in my company and just setup the agents to my clients database servers and have them feed my grid control? As in the scenario is there a difference between a 1 man company(consultant) and a service company with many dba?
Or is the licensing orientated around the concept of 1 company, many internal database,1 internal grid control?
    Thanks
    /Jan

I believe the use of Grid Control itself is free, but you have to buy the extra packs if you use them (e.g. change management, configuration management and tuning packs).
    As for the repository:
A separate Oracle Database can be installed and used as a Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control (OEM Grid Control) repository without additional license requirements, provided that all the targets (databases, applications, and so forth) managed in this repository are correctly licensed. This database may also be used for the RMAN repository. It may not be used or deployed for other uses.
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/license.112/e10594/editions.htm#BABDJGGI
In your case, the orientation is on the company for which the Grid control is monitoring the databases for (in your case per customer).
When you choose the setup you describe, you end up paying for your own Oracle Database Enterprise Edition license for using OEM (as this is your 'property').
You might also consider good firewalling in this, as i don't think customers like it when they can see each others servers / network... ;)

  • Installing Grid control

    Hi,
I have oracle 11gR2 database on windows 2008 with 64 bits. There is no package of grid control on OTN for windows 64bit. So can anyone suggest me how should I start?
    1. Do I need to install the grid control on some other server and then access all the databases from that server?
    2. Also since doing for the first time I wanted installation guide on windows. I did not find the readme of grid control good.
    Thank you,
    Myra

    Hi Myra,
The OMS on Windows is only supported on 32 bits, see note: Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control Certification Checker [ID 412431.1] on support.oracle.com
So it is best to use a 32 bit Windows server.
We have one 32 bit W2008 server running OMS and the database without a problem. But you can put the OMS and the Database on different servers.
The minimum bandwidth between the database and OMS should be at least 1Gb/sec (maximum latency 30 ms), this should these days not be a problem.
Thus, you can use the 64 bit database you have now, or create a new DB + OMS on one 32 bit Windows server.
In Master Note for Grid Control 11.1.0.1.0 Installation and Upgrade [ID 1067438.1] you will find the example How to Install 11.1.0.1.0 on MS Windows 2003
A difference of using W2008 compared to W2003 is that you have to run executables (setup.exe) with the "run as administrator" option.

  • Grid control and em console !!

We have been using em console for a long time. It is very usefull for us. But we want to go one step further. What is the difference between these two? What will we gain if we use Grid control instead of em console?
Thank you very much for the replies.
    Regards.

I assume you are refering to EM Database Control.
EM Database Control is focussed on management of one single Database.
OEM GRID Control, allows you to monitor and manage a complete data center. Meaning all Hosts (servers), Databases, Application Servers, Applications, Network components, Storage components etc. etc.
By using Management Packs you will have an enormous amount of features to do things like:
    Configuration Management
    Performance Tuning
    Diagnostics
    Service Level Management
    Provisioning and Automated Patching
    Application Testing
    etc.etc.
CHeckout the documentation and data sheets on OTN for more info.
If you have any questions please ask.
    Regards
    Rob
For more info on OEM GC, you might want to check my blog http://oemgc.wordpress.com

  • GRID Control and management  hostname

With a HA deployment you have to set :
    emd.properties:#AgentListenOnAllNICs=FALSE
This is ok for me but the servers have 3 differents IP adresses (3 differents hostname), one is foucuss for management tasks and this is not the name registered by the Agent.
Do you know if it is possible to run host scripts (external jobs) with Grid Control and to specify the hostname where these jobs have to run by default the jobs will run on the hostname registered by the Agent.

    Hello,
There is currently no support for CEP in Grid Control.
