Timing is off with iMovie slideshow

I made a slideshow using iMovie. I used [share=>quicktime=>expert settings==>movie to apple tv] to save the movie. When I play the m4v file using quicktime, the timing is ok. But, when I play it on Apple TV, some of the timing is different. Why?

Well the issue appears to be the frame rate.
I'm not quite sure what is going on here or how it has happened, but the basic principle here is that you seem to have a variable frame rate which quicktime can obviously cope with but the tv cannot.
The majority of the pictures seem to run at a frame rate of 0.33 fps (or 1 frame every 3 seconds) which is fine for these pictures; but at one point you have 2 photos occupying a 3 second slot (one at 1s and one at 2s), the problem being that you cannot display 1/3 and 2/3's of a frame. Obviously Quicktime manages to resolve this problem as you would like it to but the tv doesn't.
What you really need here is a frame rate of 3 fps, then each photo would play for 3 frames except the two at 1s and 2s which would play for 1 frame and 2 frames respectively.
The reason I don't fully understand what is going on here is that I really wouldn't expect imovie HD export for tv to export at either 0.33 of 1 fps, but rather at 30 fps. I'm not sure whether this is supposed to be the case or not, but imovie clearly isn't exporting for the tv properly under these circumstances.
As a workaround you could apply a small amount of ken burns effect to each still or export to full quality and then use QT pro or mpegstreamclip to export the full quality clip to tv format.

  • Timing slightly off with ipad in captivate 7

I couldn't figure out any simple way of doing paragraph reveals timed to audio in a slide, so I used different techniques to display do paragraph/bullet reveals depending on if the slide had a solid coloured background or a photo. My techniques involve switching seamlessly from one image or caption box to another. It works as an swf, and in html5 in a few different desktop browsers including safari, for on the ipad I'm getting a frame or so where the image/caption box disappears before the next one shows up.

I've noticed something similar with CP7 on iPad 2 (iOS 7.0.4).  On some slides I have smartshapes masking parts of a screenshot which are supposed to start at time index zero, but sometimes it takes a few ms to kick in, so you get flashes of stuff that shouldn't display.

  • Slideshow audio timing is off after export to QT movie

I created a slideshow in iPhoto and put one song with it. I times all the slide durations so that the music would fade out exactly at the end. After exporting to a QuickTime movie, however, the slideshow is finished before the song is... the song is off by at least ten seconds.
I believe I get better image quality if I do the show in iPhoto as opposed to iMovie, which is why I used iPhoto to begin with. But if the show will not synch, what other choice do I have?
    Any suggestions?

Did you take into account the transition times. That has thrown me off a number of times. Do you have the Fit Slideshow to music option selected?
Another application that creates, IMO, terrific slideshows is PhotoPresenter. It has 25 or more themes and can save the slideshow, with Fit slideshow to music, to a variety of formats, QT, for iPod, HD, etc. This is one of their many themes.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Can I drop an IMovie Slideshow with music into IDVD?

    Hello,
I created (and it took a long time) a slideshow with music using IMovie. Now I want to burn it to a DVD and am realizing I need to put it into IDVD. I saved it to my desktop and then dropped it into the IDVD Magic program but it does not save the slideshow. Or if it does, I can't seem to figure out how to play it. I also can't figure out how to choose the picture for the IDVD theme page. Any help with how to burn my IMovie slideshow on a DVD using either IDVD or some other way, would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Or if it does, I can't seem to figure out how to play it.
Click on the "Preview" button in the bottom left corner of the iDVD window. For more details go to iDVD Help: >_Making a Magic iDVD_
I also can't figure out how to choose the picture for the IDVD theme page.
Once you have added your slideshowGo to Help: _Adding images and movies to drop zones_
Any help with how to burn my IMovie slideshow on a DVD using either IDVD or some other way, would be greatly appreciated.
I am not familiar with the workings Magic DVD, but if you have already created the slideshow, it might be just as easy to follow the regular route in making this project. If you wish to try this, follow these steps.
    1. Open iDVD, select to create a new project, and name it.
    2. Select the theme.
    3. Import your slideshow into iDVD. Go to your movies folder (or wherever your project is saved), and drag the iMovie icon (the one with the star) to the window of your iDVD project. Avoid drop zones.
    4. You can add photos to the drop zones by clicking on the "Media" Button in the bottom right corner, and then on "Photos". Just drag and drop the photos to their desired location.
    5. Preview by clicking on the triangle at the bottom of the window.
    6. When you are ready to burn, first go to File>Save as disk image. This will allow you to have a final check of your project before burning to DVD. You can see how this project will actually play when played on a regular DVD player. If everything is fine, you can then burn the DVD using Disk Utility.
    I hope this helps.

    Wow. Okay...

To be completely honest, FCPX is a RAM hog. It just is. But, RAM is relatively cheap, and the pay-off is good.
4GB is right on the edge, IMHO. 16G is ideal.

  • Timing off with Garage Band file

I created a song in Garage Band, and opened it in Logic.
The Logic metronome is off sync with the Garage Band file, even though the tempo is correct.
    Does anyone know why?
    Thanks,
    Avi

That's not the problem. The song is at 126 bpm throughout.
I did a quick test with another Garage Band beat, and everything was OK. I have no idea why the metronome would be off with the other tune I created in Garage Band. Very annoying.

  • Please Help...My photos are cut off in my slideshow

    Hello,
I am making a slideshow using IMovie. I am using photos from IPhoto. When I drag them to the strip and then play my show, many of the photos are cut off. You can't see the whole photo. Example, my daughter is on a balance beam and you can only see her legs and the beam. Any suggestions on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated. Do I need to adjust all of my photo sizes? (Hope not, this slideshow has hundreds of pictures) Do I need to adjust something with the slideshow?
Thank you in advance for you help.

Is there a way to do that for all the pictures at once?
You can either set the Project Preference to automatically use the "Fit" option when new images are added to a project. However, to change the rest of the images already added, you would have to select the image you already corrected, press Command-C to copy the information to temporary memory, select all other images, and then use the "Paste Adjustments > Crop" Edit menu setting to copy the current "Crop" setting to all selected images at once.
    BTW-what is Kens Burns?
It adds a "motion" effect to still images. I.e., you can select a start and stop scaled/position view and the application will interpolate "in between frames" to create the motion effect.

  • Presentation timing way off after export to Quicktime

I built a presentation with several embedded Quicktime movies. Want it to play all the way through automatically. Plays beautifully in Keynote, but when I export to Quicktime timing is way off. Individual clips have lots of extra time on the first or last frame. Tried all sizes of export, tried recording and then using recorded timings, but nothing works.

  • ANYBODY AVAILABLE TO HELP WITH iMOVIE EMERGENCY?

I am trying to make a photo slideshow in iMOVIE (I'm suppose to be showing it to a large group that is counting on me on Wednesday!). After importing 473 photos from iPhoto and I start to do some editing, the program quits. When I try to open it, there's nothing there including when I click on the media button.
This had happened to me twice and I'm about ready to throw my Apple through the window! What is so great about Apple software? I've had nothing but problems ever since I bought one.

Yes, I've finally been able to import all 473 photos and "save it". I imported the photos by clicking on the "media" button and selecting the photos. NOW my problem is that the photos look terrible - they look slightly pixelized. They look great in iPhoto, but they look terrible in iMovie. Do you have any suggestions? I'm not impressed with iMovie - I've found it to be very hard to work with. I have 12 mothers and their children that are counting on me to get this done by Wednesday, and I'm not sure I'm going to be able to pull it off. Thanks for any help you can give...

  • Burning DVDs off of iMovie ver. 2

Hey all. I have a Mac G4 with os 9.1. I am trying to burn video dvds off of iMovie v.2.0.3.  Have created the project,  but can't get my Lacie firewire DVD burner to find and burn the project.
I exported the project to Quicktime, and can view it there, but I have been unable to get my Lacie drive to recognize the project and burn the DVD.  I can burn data DVDs, but not videos. I also cannot find a format through which I can put the project on media and open on my Windows computer to burn the discs.
Is there any way to get my project onto a DVD? Answers?

  • Using an external drive with iMovie HD

I just received and formatted my external drive. At first I chose Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and Zero out data. When I got info (⌘+I) of the drive afterwards, it had 79 MB being used, journalling? So I then Erased it and chose Mac OS Extended and now it shows 59 MB as being used, whatever for IDK.
Does it matter which format I use for working with iMovie, journaled or not?
In the Get Info window there is an Ignore Ownership option. I know it doesn't need to be ticked when an OS is going to be loaded on the drive but am wondering if I should tick it since the drive is only going to be used mainly for iMovie projects and no OS is going to be loaded.
Should I tick Ownership or leave it off?
I have iMovie projects that have not been edited yet and a iDVD project on my internal drive.
Can I just drag and drop or copy and paste the iMovie projects to the external drives icon and delete the project from my internal drive to create a little more space? Is it simple as that?
Same thing with the iDVD project after archiving it first? Copy/Paste,Drag/Drop and delete.
I've got a backup drive but use SuperDuper! so I don't have any experience with using 'scratch?' drives.
I've read elsewhere on this Discussion site that the finished iMovie projects need to be on the internal drive in order to transfer to and edit in iDVD.
How and where do I move the project to from the external? Drag/Drop or Copy/Paste to my Desktop then Drag/Drop, Copy/Paste to iDVD, or some other way?
    Thanks.

I am not sure zeroing out data on a SATA drives "marks" bad blocks/sectors. I think this may have only been on SCSI drives. I couldn't find a reference that it behaves this way on a SATA drive. Thus the only advantage being that it more securely erases files.
The click and hold works the same on a PB!

  • IMPORT issues: Works with iMovie 3 but not iMovie 6 ???

Okay, still trying to get my import issue resolved.
    I have a SONY HDR-HC3 DVmini.
No problems with iMovie 3 on my Powerbook.
iMovie 6 on my MDD will let me control the camera, but the screen stays BLUE with no IMPORT.
My buddy thinks it might be a Quicktime issue.
He said to download Quicktime Pro, that might resolve this issue.
I can copy the iMovie 3 file to my machine with iMovie 6 and do the editing, just not the importing...

    Hi
    Can be so much.
Often Camera has to be connected to Charger/mains during Capture.
An majority is a faulthy - badly connected FW-Cable (USB don't work at all)
    My list on this
    *NO CAMERA or A/D-box*
    Cable
    • Sure that You use the FireWire - USB will not work for miniDV tape Cameras
FireWire - Sure not using the accompany USB-Cable but bought a 4-pin to 6-pin FW one ?
    • Test another FW-Cable very often the problem maker.
    Camera
    • Test Your Camera on another Mac so that DV-in still works OK
    • Toogle in iMovie pref. Play-back via Camera (on<->off some times)
    • Some Cameras has a Menu where You must select DV-out to get it to work
    • Camera connected to "charger" (mains adaptor) - not just on battery
Does Your Camera work on another Mac ?
Sorry to say it is to easy to turn the 6-pin end of the FW-cable 180 deg wrong.
This is lethal to the A/D-chip in the Camera = needs an expensive repair.
(Hard to find out - else than import/export to another Mac ceased to work
everything else is OK eg recording and playback to TV)
    Connections
    • Daisy Chaining most often doesn’t work (some unique cases - it’s the only way that work (some Canon Cameras ?))
Try to avoid connecting Camera <--> external HD <--> Mac but import directly to the Mac then move
the Movie project to dedicated external hard disk.
    Mac
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk ? Please specify the amount of free space.
    (Other hard disks don't count)
I go for a minmum of 25Gb free space for 4x3 SD Video - and my guess is 5 times more for 16x9 HD ones
after material is imported and edited.
    SoftWare
    • Delete iMovie pref file may help sometimes. I rather start a new account, log into this and have a re-try.
    • Any strange Plug-ins into QuickTime as Perian etc ? Remove and try again.
    • FileVault is off ? (hopefully)
    Using WHAT versions ? .
    • Mac OS - X.5.4 ?
    • QuickTime version ? (This is the heart in both iMovie and FinalCut)
    • iMovie 8 (7.1.?) ?
    • iMovie HD 6 (6.0.4/3) ?
*Other ways to import Your miniDV tape*
    • Use another Camera. There where tape play-back stations from SONY
but they costed about 2-4 times a normal miniDV Camera.
    • If Your Camera works on another Mac. Make an iMovie movie project here and move it
over to Your Mac via an external hard disk.
(HAS TO BE Mac OS Extended formatted - USB/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange WILL NOT DO)

Hi Bengt W, I tried it all, but nothing worked. Your answer has been helpfull insofar as all the different trials led to the conclusion that there was something wrong with my iMovie software. Thanks for all your suggestions. What I learned is that I had a software problem. I had something called "Nikon Transfer" on my Mac that was recognizing my Canon camcorder as a still camera and was preventing iMovie from working properly. After uninstalling Nikon Transfer and doing a reboot, everything worked great.
I never liked the Nikon Transfer software anyway--I guess I'll get a cheap card reader and use that to transfer photos in the future.
